Best fried chicken?
Skip's, of course!
OK, no problem. I just wanted to make sure Jose didn't think he was dreaming.
I'm looking forward to seeing Terrence Malick's Tree of Life. I loved The Thin Red Line, didn't like The New World, thought Badlands OK and Days of Heaven bored me. So my reaction to his films is very variable.I'm along similar line. Loved "Thin Red Line," hated "New World." But I also loved "Badlands" and found "Days of Heaven" beautiful but cold, and I saw the latter at a time when I was really young and didn't know how to respond to cold movies.

DR Ben, I appreciated your posting the Amazon.com info several days ago. When I get to their Kindle page I go into a coma. I believe that I have successfully registered the damned thing, but I have no idea how to proceed. I really think I'd just as soon open a book than deal with all of this unnecessary madness.
I received the Blu-ray of Citizen Kane today, in a nice big box with extra goodies. It's a film which I admire rather than unreservedly enjoy but as one of the all-time classics I feel it has to be in my collection.
When I first moved to Portland, I was hired to play in a country band called THE WAFFLES. I have yet to be hired for a band called CHICKEN.
And the word of the day is: EKSTASIS!

I'm just sort of surprises that "The Tree of Life" is already on DVD. Wasn't it just in the theatres this past summer, a few months ago?

I have it on excellent authority ::) that NO ONE cares as much about CITIZEN KANE as they do about SCARFACE. At least according to the interwebs. ;)
Sorry I didn't check in yesterday. After dinner the internet was quite wonky on the boat and when I tried to open HHW I got this message:
“The website you are trying to reach has been blocked by the Ship Web Filter, as it affects the entire ship internet performance or contains content deemed unsuitable” Reason: Blacklisted due to Forums & Newsgroups
If you believe this is an error or need to access this link please contact your reception or HotelManager."
As you can guess, they've unblocked it for me...
TOD: Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles is pretty delicious, but the one I really loved was Amber's Broasted Chicken.
*I've actually been on a juice fast the past three days. I just needed something to reset my system after dealing with the kidney stones. I, apparently, had also strained some intercostal muscles somewhere along the line, so that was just another reason to get my insides in order. And now they are. And I should be easing back into my normal eating routine by the time I land in Chicago on Wednesday morning! ::)

You couldn't pay me to watch SCARFACE again. I think the interwebs are peopled by dweebs with unrequited libidos and an excess of testosterone. They enter puberty and express themselves freely based upon the movies that satisfy said libidos.
Didn't the Academy forbid privately done screeners for members, or am I imagining that? I'm thinking that may have at least something to do with the quick turnaround of product these days, especially as we approach nominating season.

I'm thinking you're correct on this. It was a big deal when it was discovered these screeners were being used by pirates to bootleg copies.
The cult of Scarface is truly an enigma to me. But the cult of a lot of De Palma's movies is an enigma to me, especially Dressed To Kill, Blow Out, and the dreadful Body Double.I completely agree. I was reminded of the cult with the NYT story yesterday on Pauline Kael. I loved her writing, but I never understood her fascination with his work.
Back from the four-mile jog and really want that slaw dog, but I think I'll be content with tuna sandwiches today. But I REALLY want that slaw dog.Slaw dog. Reminds me of the Varsity in Atlanta. Also a great city for chicken and waffles. I need think of something else.
DR Ginny, I have bad news from Middletown, OH: Roy Barton, Snooky's dad, died on Friday. Jim Goetz just emailed me. Roy was 89.My sympathies.

Damn it--to think I used up my once annual being correct comment on something like this. ;D

My deepest sympathies to his family and all of his friends.
DR elmore & DR Ginny & DH Richard, condolences on the loss of your friend's father.
Just had a nice chat with Richard Sherman - he's going to write a little something for our booklet and he's also agreed to sign the first 100 copies purchased, so that's great.

DR Jennifer this afternoon I'll be making a trip to the library to pick up LOVE YOU MORE. I had to wait a long time for it to become available. I guess Lisa Gardner is popular.
I'll be returning THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BRIDGE, by Mary Lawson, which I think could be considered a young adult book. I'm curious if you would agree.

When you send a Twitter message, what does the little lock symbol mean?
Every time i see the words "chicken" and "waffles" in the same sentence it seems so weird to me. I guess it's just extremely unfamiliar to me.

I must concur! Best fried chicken I have ever had anywhere
today is Vixdad & My 24th wedding anniversary - he bought me a beautiful necklace with three little butterflies on it and surprised me at the office with roses and my favorite thai chicken pizza from California pizza and then tonight we went out to Gashos for hibachi ---- it was wonderful!
I'm home!! (and have been for about an hour) I'm on my own computer...watching my own TV...petting my own cat...I'll be sleeping in my own bed...with my own pillows and blankets...take a shower in my own shower...well, you get the picture. ;)

I went swimming today for the first time since late August. And it was the first time i've been indoors since before summer.
There were all old people swimming very slowly in the fast lane. Apparently all the fast people have not been swimming for a while.
I sort of wish the lifeguards would enforce the lanes.
It wasn't too bad.I can mostly work with anybody in my lane as long as they don't annoy me. The thing that annoys me the most is if a really slow person is stopped at the end and only starts going right as i am reaching the end. I hate when people do this! Why would you want to make the faster person have to stop and wait for you.

Did you read all the other books in the D.D Warren series? If you like her ( i do) then you can reserve the next book now. It's called CATCH ME and comes out early in 2012. Love her!

I think it was released in early Spring, although I may be mistaken.
Ummmm...where have you been the past 5 or 6 years, DR Jose? This is "normal". The final "Harry Potter" movie will be out the first (or second) week in November...and it was released in...what...June?
:D
I, for one, was out of town visiting in-laws. I do not have any good stories to share, because they are very nice normal people.
Happy Anniversary, Vixmom and Vixdad!

Oh good! Does this mean your kidney stones are gone?
I can't imagine eating chicken & waffles together. I have two best waffles. The first was a Belgian waffle at the Mendocino Hotel. If I weren't so full I might have ordered a second one.

The summer countdown is now into SINGLE DIGITS. My programmable thermostat will turn off in 9 days.
Jan Horvath created this adorable 30-second birthday song and video.

Please feel free to send it whenever someone you know has a Birthday! HURRAY!
LYRICS:

CAKE AND PRESENTS ARE COMING YOUR WAY!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! IT'S YOUR DAY TODAY! HURRAY~!
Anyhoo...Feel better soon.
My first day back on solid food was, well... :)
I made sure to pace myself since I could tell that my stomach is a bit smaller after the past couple of days, but that just meant that I could treat myself to something every two hours or so. :)

DR elmore - Did you end up heading down to Starbucks after all? -Or are you actually able to download books from the internet/your computer via the USB cable?
