Topic of the Day:

"When She Loved Me," from Toy Story (I forget which one)
"Life Has Been Good To Me," from Faust...and French Stewart's version that was used on the 3-D episode of "3rd Rock From the Sun," when they dream for the first time :D

Otherwise, I was never much of a Randy Newman fan.

I have a Johnny Carson authored book from the early 60's and was curious to see how much it was selling for on Amazon. I was shock! Tell you I was shocked. A used cop was going for

Good morning, all! I slept late, and I have little on today's agenda except for a meeting about the Christmas show at 4:00 at the Eugene O'Neil Theatre. Our producer is involved with THE BOOK OF MORMON. so the meeting will be at the theatre.

At some point I must run to Barnes & Noble for a gift certificate and to look at the newest fantasy book releases as a possible gift for Charlotte. Hopefully, I will finish this Act One Fashion Show score for ROBERTA yoday as well.

Is it okay to charge it often? I know some with some devices it's better to wait till the battery dies. I was just curious.

The Kindle user's guide says that it should take less than three hours to fully charge it and the charge indicator light (at the on/off switch) will turn green when the battery is fully charged.  The battery icon at the top right will have a line making it look like it's broken to indicate that the battery isn't fully charged.

The "bars" are indicators of how powerful your wi-fi connection is.

Um okay i feel dumb that i didn't even notice the battery icon. That makes sense that the bars show how powerful the wi-fi connection is. Thanks.

Ben Bailey is quite a funny stand up comedian.  He has a great routine about getting stuck in traffic at the Lincoln Tunnel and some guy screaming at him and flipping him off.  He (Bailey) lost it and jumped out of his truck and accosted the guy, whereupon two things happened.  The guy instantly recognized him, and then Bailey remembered he was with his filming crew, who had all simultaneously jumped out of the truck, so that Bailey was surrounded by a gaggle of big, brutish guys, all of them heading toward the guy who had screamed.  It's a very funny bit.

When I spoke to Andy before the show, he said "there might be a move east," and I'm hoping the show has a long run and life. One caveat is that Dame Ben Brantley did not give ONCE the rave they were hoping for in the TIMES.

I'm thinking I'll order tickets for the early part of the run and take Charlotte.

I finally managed to dispose of my collection of non-working electrical and electronic items, including broken DVD and BD players. I took them to the recycle depot which is only 2 miles from me. Trouble is, almost everyone is now on holiday and the local roads are chock-a-block. So what should be a few minutes journey ends up an hour or more there and back.

It's amazing how much one can accomplish by leaving the house before 9am!  I stopped at the bank and our local Target, where I was able to replace the birthday gloves that I lost the other night.  Headed south and arrived at Rob and Mary Linda's apartment right on time.  ML gave me a tour of their digs, which I like a lot, and then we came back to Middletown.  Made a couple of quick stops and went to pick up her car.  She stopped here to get some things Rob had forgotten yesterday and she's headed back to Cincinnati.  I'm contemplating lunch and my afternoon agenda.

The Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that this dream reveals that not every project you have been involved in led to the place you thought it would, but that it some cases - the destination was even more interesting.  It also reveals that you don't feel as in charge of current projects as you wish to be.

I'm going to sign off for a while, because we're expecting DN/G Lauren soon.  She's coming to decorate Christmas cookies with us, have dinner, open her Christmas present, and let us hug her before she takes off next week for her 4-month internship in Florida.  We are also celebrating the news she received today - that she made the Dean's List again for her last semester before she graduated from Miami!

Hello, everyone.

Back from a nice lunch with Mr BK himself. The restaurant changed the menu, but we were both able to find dishes that pleased us. I am feeling quite stuffed.

I got to see the esteemed new merino wool jacket, too. Quite nice. Like he said, like a pea coat--sorta. Very nice.

Good Afternoon!

So...

I made my way to Target without too much muss or fuss. Thankfully, I remembered to take the "non-mall" way, so it only took me three minutes to there instead of ten.

Of course, as I got out of the car, I realized that I had left my wallet at my parents' house. Spoo!

So...

Once I re-got to Target with my wallet in pocket, I headed straight to the Toys sections - sorta - and found the last things on The List. HOO and RAY!

*Of course, I did end up browsing the $1 bins at the front, and picked up some Christmas favors and candies and chocolates.

After Target, I headed back to Stella's for lunch. Alas, since it was the end of the lunch shift, they were already out of a couple of items. However, I had a very nice Lamb Burger with Feta and Tzatziki and a cup of Lentil Soup. And I got a nice glimpse of Stella again doing her magic back in the kitchen.

Then, since I needed to get my hairs cut, and found some raves for a place called "Refuge". It was just a half mile from Stella's, so I took a chance. And I'm glad I did!

I walked in just as Dot was finishing up another customer. As soon as he exited the chair, she said, "Step right up!" And then for the next 25 minutes, Dot took great care of me and of my hair. The Yelp reviews raved about Dot, and those raves were spot on. Very friendly, knowledgeable, just chatty enough, and she really took her time without ever feeling that she was going too fast nor too slow. And since I was getting my usual clipper cut - 1 on the sides, 3 on the top - she went ahead and rinsed, shampooed, rinses, conditioned, rinsed and hot-toweled me after she was doing cutting my hairs. And all of that was included in the price of the cut! Which was just $20!

She also furnished the waiting area with a foosball table, a TV, a PS2 console, and an old school Atari system! I'll definitely be back for a touch up before I head back up NYC!

Since everyone is posting about going to Target ... we are finally getting some Targets here. Sometime in 2012. The only thing is it means all our Zellers are closing.

DR Jennifer - Is it possible that some of the Zellers will become Targets? Target usually builds their stores from the ground up, but sometimes they do retrofit existing buildings.

Good luck at Target DR JOSE.  They ARE nice stores.

Thank You, DR JRand. And I believe your "luck" worked!

*And the Target by my parents' house is a nice one. It's also one of their larger locations. I got some good exercise just getting from the front door back to the toy section. However, they do have plenty of cash registers, and once I had everything in my shopping basket, I was out of the store in under five minutes. :)

The host is the guy from CASH CAB....Ben.....and he is okay....he looks a bit uncomfortable standing up, but he does okay.

Thank you, Jrand!  I switched on that program for its final ten minutes, and I could not for the life of me figure out where I knew the host.

Talking about "rare" books.

I have a Johnny Carson authored book from the early 60's and was curious to see how much it was selling for on Amazon. I was shock! Tell you I was shocked. A used cop was going for

You're not going to believe this.

I didn't.

That's just shocking! :o

Talking about rare items in general, I bought the "For Your Consideration - Best Original Score" CD to "Monsters, Inc." by Randy Newman from our very own BK.  It has many more tracks than what's on the officially released soundtrack.  I would search eBay and Amazon every once in a while to see what it might be going for and for a long time I saw only one copy for $199.99...much, Much, MUCH (that's three muches) more than what I paid for BK's copy.  Well, just a couple of weeks ago, my sister told me that she LOVES "Monsters, Inc."  It's her favorite Pixar movie.  So, I decided to give her my "For Your Consideration" CD for Christmas.  I happened to search eBay again and saw that the $199.99 copy was still available (no surprise there) BUT someone else was selling the same CD, and it's SEALED!, with a starting bid of only $9.99!  There were no bids yet!  I bid and I just won it for only $9.99 (plus $3 shipping)!  So, I can give my sister a copy and still have a copy for myself.

Take that, seller-who's-selling-it-for-$199.99! ;D

Well, the vacation didn't start today, that much I can tell you.  I did have a very nice luncheon with dear reader Jeanne.  The helper came by in the morning to deal with more invoices (People In The Picture has, over the last five days, sold close to two hundred copies - I was shocked to find out we only have about two hundred left before having to repress).  No time to jog, of course, and after lunch I had to go directly to the bank, then to the AT&T store to have them affix a protection shield on my iPhone - pretty nifty and then your screen doesn't get dirty ever, and whilst there I got my Apple Care extended warranty, which I thought I had to get at the Apple store.  Then I picked up a couple of packages, then came home briefly, then decided to get the Gelson's run out of the way.  I got everything needed for the Do, some nice flowers to make the home environment nice and cozy, and now, finally, I think tomorrow is completely a ME day.  The ONLY thing I may do is go to the DGA to see The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo at five-thirty.

I have a question.

As I mentioned the other day my Itunes has been lost due to a damaged section on my hardrive.

I am able to access my music from the FRONT ROW application, but not ITunes.

Are the files attached to FRONT ROW stored on another part of the hard drive? (I still can't access my individual music files from the hard drive)

You're right.  My copy isn't sealed.  When I did the search, a "For Your Consideration" CD for "Finding Nemo" kept showing up and that copy is supposed to be sealed, not mine.  I must've been thinking of that when I posted...SPOO!  The track list for the "Monsters, Inc." CD is identical to the one that I have, so it should all be good. :)

Yes the Targets are using Zellers buildings. Or buying them. Not sure. Just know Zellers are leaving and Targets are coming. Although apparently one Zellers building is gonna be Walmart.

Diana Ross CHAIN REACTION dance

her last Hot 100 song - maybe just last so far?

That's funny...they've got that huge camera right in front of her and she doesn't look into it at all. :D

Just finished watching Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, about which much, much more later.

Hmm...sound ominous.

I am very curious what BK will say about this version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I am very curious how it compares to the Swedist version.

I have a feeling it will be good. I am also curious if it is as graphic. I really hope it's not (this was my least favorite part of the Swedish movies).

My nieces really cleaned up this year in terms of presents.

They get a menorah, a Xmas tree and presents for what seems like weeks!

My 6 year old niece found one of her Chanukah books and now every night she recites us a passage from her book (for that day). This was her idea.
My aunt got them an electrical menorah which looks stunning from across the room.

Today one of the 6 year old's presents was a very cool hangman game (you flip the letters and hangman pieces on an elasticky thing that goes vertically. Very cool.  It is funny she can read a lot. But she is just learning how to spell. She does not know how to spell the words she can read! But she is getting better and loved the game.

I just finished watching THE DEBT, which I definitely recommend.

Check out SARAH'S KEY as well.

I saw that...and liked it very much.

Well, it's the end of the library's fiscal year.  I've just finished paying the last of the bills for this month (and year) and unless I did something horribly wrong, I got it down to within 6¢ of our entire budget amount for the year! :D

All that's left is for me to do evaluations...all by myself.  But not now.  I'm going home.

Until later!

Wow. Will you do my budget for me? I need that kind of fiduciary wizardry.

Good Evening!

Well... We had a good show tonight. However... Let's just say I'll be glad to have our original sound man back at the board tomorrow night instead of one of the theatre's artistic associates. But at least I know just how loud the vocal monitor on my side of the stage can get. And then some. ::)

The CBS ad for the Kennedy Center honors show Neil Diamond, Meryl Streep, and then seem to show the three other honorees as if they're "and the rest" by showing Barbara Cook, Yo-Yo Ma, Sonny Rollins all at the same time.

well, guess they have a TV show to sell.

The other three don't have a high enough Q rating.

60 degrees on the first day of winter!  Crazy!

Yep! Crazy! I bought a new parka back in October, and have yet to have an opportunity to wear it!?!?

bk - It's good to know that the Taylor's will all be on one coast. Let's hope that the Broadway transfer of Once is just as successful as its current off-Broadway run.

I thought Alet was in L.A.

She is.  But as bk mentioned in The Notes, Alet and her daughters will be moving back to NYC next year to join Andy.

Tomorrow at work, I have to start working on evaluations.  This is the first time that I've done them.  They are supposed to be done by the end of the year, but one of my staff (my staff :D) is going on vacation starting tomorrow afternoon, so hers, at least, has to all be done before she leaves.

Fortunately, I have previous years' evaluations, so I can get a sense of how to write them and what needs to be in them.  The only problem is that next year, we're going to get a whole new evaluation form/system, and it's supposed to be very different than what's been used for the last several years.
