Well, you've read the notes, the notes had roots, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently looking for their roots but only finding their MOOts.
-
And the word of the day is: GASCONADE!
-
Good luck with the book, BK! I remember you mentioning some time ago that your new book was going to be non-fiction, so I wondered if that was going to be it.
-
I don't believe it! After all my work yesterday repairing the fence, it blew down again in the night during further gale winds and rain. Obviously I did a really thorough repair job!!
-
TOD:
Orson Welles: As director - Touch of Evil. As actor - Compulsion
John Huston: As director - The Asphalt Jungle. As actor - Chinatown
Errol Flynn: The Adventures of Robin Hood & Objective Burma
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all! I slept quite well, with an obsessive dream about rewriting a transition in the Entr'Acte for DEAREST ENEMY. While I would like to pull out the score and examine those bars of music, I have to go to City Center this morning and help my surrogate son Joshie proof the new orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick for MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG. There will be several days of this task over the next couple of weeks before the orchestra rehearsals for the production.
Before I leave this morning, I'vbe got to get some more German-English lyrics for the Herbert songs cleaned up and sent to New World Records. First, I need more coffee.
TOD:
John Huston: THE MALTESE FALCON, THE DEAD
Errol Flynn: ROBIN HOOD, THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON
-
And the word of the day is: GASCONADE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I AM WHAT I AM
-
Good morning, all.
-

"Ripe for Rediscovery"-- the title of my autobiography
-
The continuation of the BK story sounds great. Looking forward to it.
-
To answer Vixmom from last night: The police have done nothing further on the break-in, even with the added information on the other John Griffin also having been burglarized. I guess it wasn't important enough to follow up.
-
Isn't your Doctor's appt today DR JOHN G?
Vibes for you.
-
Exciting news from MR BK about the subject of the The Book, which sounds MOST interesting!
-
Vibes for REX as well.....poor kitty.

Wasn't The Roots of Heaven one of the DFZ Productions films that Zanuck produced when he left Fox?
-

Flynn: Just about everything, but especially The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Prince and the Pauper, Kim, The Sun Also Rises

BTW, from the look of the eastern sky this morning, which is covered in an IMMENSE black cloud, the world has ended.

Well it is 2012.

TOD:
Huston, Flynn and Welles!
Wow!
If I listed all my favorite films from those 3, I'd be here all day.
I visited the set of Huston's last film, THE DEAD; got to watch him work for a day. My client, Dan O'Herlihy, was in that one.
Interestingly, I've written 1-person plays on 2 of these icons:
ERROL FLYNN

ORSON WELLES

Sorry about the commercial plug, but BK did open the door.

I am listening to a kind of weird compilation CD by Michel Colombier, whose work has been released by Kritzerland. Michel has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid and WINGS (his album, not the film) was released. The really funny thing is Michel got his start in musique concrete with Pierre Henry, and the first track on this CD has some odd early electronic music effects which completely startled our dog Blanche. She came running down the stairs this morning to see what horrible aliens were attacking us. :)

I haz a slice of lemon poundcake!

Isn't your Doctor's appt today DR JOHN G?

Thanks. Yes, it is this afternoon. Am ready for it.

So, yahoo has a hilarious story about a bad typo made in regard to a basketball player's medical condition. Spellcheck would not have caught this one:

Has anybody seen the movie "Shame" yet? Am wondering if this guy is the kind of demon dark side of Bobby in "Company." The "zombie's in my arms" kind of guy. I want to see it, even if it is depressing.
-
Haven't seen it DR JOHNG.
I forgot about two films DR CP mentioned for John Huston.....
The Man Who Would Be King
The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm doing laundry.
-
Good morning! I am late getting on the net today.
-
At the end of the losing season for the Colts - the owner did what any right thinking person would do:
He fired the Vice Chairman William Polian and his son James Polian the team's General Manager. It was of course all their fault. If anyone on HHW is a sports fan and casual fan....I am sure you will see lots of Colts Owner James Irsay during the coverage of the Super Bowl next month.
I write this because Irsay fits the description of the player's affliction in DR JOHN G's post above.
Some one-sided info from the Irsay camp, no doubt.

vixmom - Both Skip and I say thanks for your comments last night.
-
...Still doing laundry...

Thursday morning greetings! Richard took me to the
vampire's lab for my fasting blood test and I took him to Bob Evans for breakfast. I had a yummy ham and cheese omelet with red & green peppers and won't need another meal until the pork roast dinner I have planned for tonight. I did, however, want some more coffee when we got home, so I brewed a pot of the Dunkin' Donuts Toasted Almond Coffee that Santa put in my Christmas stocking. It's delicious!
-
Now I'm hungry!
-
Still very windy today so I've had to put off fixing the fence until tomorrow, when the forecast is for better weather..
-
And am starting the VCR to DVD conversions today. We shall see how they go.
-
I'm up and trying to get coherent, after which I'll finesse yesterday's twenty pages.
-
Now I'm hungry!
I've been hungry all day but I'm resisting the temptation to eat too much. I need to cut back after all the holiday eating.
-
Good news. After running for 5 days, the SD card recovery programme finished scanning and recovered almost all of the 1500 photos which my sister took. We were afraid they might heve been lost for good.
-
Great news DR DOUG R. Yes, technology can sometimes be miraculous!!

Well, it was only a slice...

I desperately need to get on that this year, too.

Good news, DR Doug R!
And another task I need to follow up on--my SD card has a year and a half worth of pics still on it.
-
Who else wants to remind me of the things I need to do?

Half a year...is that all? I have an 8GB memory stick that I've been downloading stuff to that has things from the last two, count 'em TWO YEARS! I just keep adding to that but I haven't taken them off the memory stick and put them on my computer. ::)
Not to brag, or anything.
;)
-
And now, I'm off to work.
Have a good day, all!
-
I found this morning that DOWNTON ABBEY season 2 will be released on DVD in early February. I'm half tempted to skip the abridged PBS showings but the show is so popular now that I'm afraid I'll hear or read spoilers about major plot points (not here but on Twitter or in EW magazine.)

Oh, Yeah? Well, this past fall I finally cleaned off programs from my DVR that were recorded in 2007!

DR FJL that actress was great as Ann Landers in that clip.....just the way I remember her on her television appearances. We had Dear Abby in our local newspapers.....but they were nearly the same.....I think they were twins.
-
I agree, DR JRand, she was great!
-
Thanks for the present, BK! Big happy pants!!!
-
Good Afternoon!
...And I finished doing laundry about two and a half hours ago.
-
I'm back from Encores! I proofread the Overture and God knows what scores my son Joshie will have for me tomorrow. Now I have to run to the bank and make a deposit.
DR DougR, great news about retrieving the photos.
-
...And then I hightailed it on out of here back to Stella's to have lunch with Liz and Gary. Liz and Gary are former professors at VCU - they retired last year. Liz is a costume designer and Gary is a director, and they're both like second parents to me. It was great catching up with them. And Liz was soooo happy to find that Stella was back in the kitchen making her Brunswick Stew. If things were going crazy in the costume shop at school, Liz would walk the block and a half to Stella's original location, order a bowl of soup, and start to feel human again.
*And they were not out of the galaktabouriko today! HUZZAH!
-
Oh... I guess I should have said, "OPA!".

DR elmore - Are these "new" orchestrations just an expansion of the orchestrations for the more recent material? I thought Tunick had done most of that work for the run at The Kennedy Center during the Sondheim Celebration (almost) 10 years ago.
-
The postman just rang once. When I answered the door there was a lovely and wonderful gift from BK himself. Let me tell you, I am very happy that I sent my address as soon as it was requested. I shan't say what the package contained; but I will say that I love it! Love it!
-
Very excited about the new book!!!
-
Oh...
I guess I just took a nap...
-
And...
I guess I should take care of care of some of the stuff I need to take care of before I head back to NYC...
I guess...
-
Yeah...
Laters...

I have been watching some of the YouTube clips from Mandy and Patti Together (or whatever it is called). Surpisingly, it is Mandy who I am finding irritating, rather than Patti. There are also some clips included under the Patti and Mandy umbrella that are not from their show together. One is my all-time favorite clip from the TV series LIFE GOES ON, where Patti sings "The Wind Beneath My Wings" to Chris Burke, who played her son.

Just did my 30-minute cardio walk around the basement.

Good for you! Congratulations.

Okay posting time!

It seemed so stange to get up whenever I felt like it this morning, and not have anything that I had to get done.
-
Weather-wise (or Whether-wise) I am not sure that January was the best time to start my retirement.
-
Is Ron back from his Christmas vacation?
-
Jose, when do you start work on the New Music Man?

Welcome to retirement!

DR TCB, they're showing on the news tonight some of the objects recovered from the Titanic that will be auctioned on April 11. I thought of you at once.

Is that on the national news, and if so, what network?

I doubt I could even manage to win $189 million in the Lottery by April; so, I guess I am out of luck.

I have my piece of coal, I have seen many of the artifacts close up, I have been to the site of the wreakage, and I saw a large section of the hull come within 100 feet of the surface; I guess I have done all I can to satisfy my Titanic-phobia.

And, I can also say (name dropper, name dropper) that Loni Anderson, Buzz Aldrin, and I explored the artifacts together.

Correct. Me wrong.

Perhaps someone will post a picture of the gift.
-
I've written twelve pages, had some lunch, picked up one package, and am now waiting for singers to arrive. I also finished the contextual commentary so that's a big thing out of the way. I'll definitely try to write six to ten more pages later.

My gift arrived today also. Thanks, BK! I love it!

Is everyone out enjoying their gift, instead of posting?

This will not do.

Or is it due?

Or perhaps I mean, dew?

Of course my friend, Merry, who recently decided to Mary, which I am sure will make her very marry.

When I went to the Titanic wreak site in 1996, they had several display cases full of artifacts that had been brought up from the ocean floor. In addition to myself, some of the other celebrities included Loni and Buzz. Both were very nice and very chatty.

There I go again. It's getting embarrassing ( the way I quote)!

Looks like I'll have to go to NY in the Spring--I can't pass up a chance to see Ms. Lansbury!

DR Jose, I used to love Fresh Step Cat litter, until they did the new formula. I have to say that the perfume scent is really over powering. The cats smell like it the house smells like it. Frankly, it would cover anything. It makes me want to gag

One word of caution for Kindle owners. Last week, I was looking fo another murder mystery. I was in the Kindle Store in Amazon and I pulled up a book by M.C. Beaton that I was thinking at buying. Before I hit the BUY button, I took a look at the other titles that others had purchased when purchasing this title. I read up on the other titles, but decided to buy just the first one I had been about to buy. I got back to that title, hit buy, and Amazon send my e-mail account a receipt. The next night, I went to start the new book, but it wasn't there. I turned the Wireless back on and lefft on over night, but still no book. Well, apparently when I decided to look at those other titles, Amazon took me out of the Kindle Store and put me in the regular book store. And since the paperback version was the same price as the Kindle, I never noticed the dfference. I tried to cancel my order but was told that it was too late, even after I complained about the mistake. It was only $7.00, but it annoyed me that Amazon didn't take me back to the Kindle Store I had been shopping before. So, now I have a paperback version that I don't want.
-
Time for me to say goodnight!
Good night, Kevin! You working people sure go to bed early. LOL! ;D
-
Okay, I was kidding. It is also my time to clean up and get ready for bed.

G'night!

Well, I'm caught up.
Saw the doctor, who looked at the CAT scan and was not happy with what he saw. He wants to cut out the unknown mass. There's a great likelihood it is cancerous, he said. But it's all small and caught early and will likely be removed without any problem. I will be out of work for two weeks, which is not great because, as a contractor, I don't get paid when I don't work.
-
Oh, no, John G.! But I'm glad it can be taken care of when it is early.
-
DR John G, sorry the medical report wasn't better, but we'll be praying for a good outcome. Remember, HHW is a great place to convalesce!
-
Thank you, Ginny and Laura and all. Great family to have.
And with that: Night, all
-
John, sorry to hear about this, better days are ahead.

DR John G, Oy! But yes, thank gawd it's been found early and it can be taken care of!

Oh Lord, I do not ever want another evening like I've just had. Towards the end of our rehearsals, which went very well, I came back to the computer to check on e-mails. On my computer screen was a message: You must shut down your computer now. Hold the button down, then press the button again to restart." It was written in several languages. That was frightening, but I did as asked. Then it got really frightening. I powered it off, waited a few seconds, then pushed the button to start it up again. And the computer began to emit three beeps over and over again and would not start. I tried several times and kept getting the beeping. I unplugged the computer, plugged it back in and the same thing. Visions of losing everything began dancing in my head, even though I knew it would all be backed up on the Time Machine. Of course, this happened at exactly 6:01 so the Apple Care people were gone. I called the Apple Store immediately and got some guy on the phone. I explained the problem - he didn't seem to care and said I'd have to make an appointment at the Genius Bar. I told him to do so.
He told me there were none until tomorrow. I told him this was an emergency and to get me a supervisor. I got some woman who also didn't seem to care. I said the computer was barely two weeks old and I was not having this. She finally put a tech on who knew something. I explained what had happened. He asked if I'd installed extra memory, and I said yes, they'd installed extra memory. He said he suspected that chip had jostled loose and was the culprit. I told him it was really an emergency and that I had documents I had to work on. He told me to come in and that they'd put me in the emergency line but that it might be a two-hour wait.
I went to the store, lugged that heavy machine up there and a nice person had me put it down, got me a stool, and let the guy know I was there. The nice person came back and said my guy was busy with someone but would get to me as soon as he could. Then the fellow who'd sold me the computer saw me - I told him what had happened and he said he'd talk to the guy who was going to help me. Whatever he did worked, and ten minutes later my guy came out and took the computer in the back. Ten minutes later he waved me to the counter and said it was exactly what he thought and that everything was fine. He'd re-seated the chip, and then he fired up the computer and all my documents and stuff came right up. He then shut it back down but it kept asking him if we wanted to save things that had already been saved. To be on the safe side I had him click "save."
I lugged the thing back to my car and came home, hooked it back up, and powered it on. None of the documents opened as they automatically should so I launched Word and then suddenly everything appeared but there were double copies of things with the wrong file names, and I suspect that whatever it was asking us to save did that. I closed the ones that had the wrong file names and checked out the correct ones, which seemed to be fine save for one tiny little formatting thing that may have been wrong in the first place. I fixed that. Talk about something destroying one's concentration and focus. I tried writing and did write a page, but I think I need to take a break for an hour and then think about doing another couple of pages after I've calmed down and my head is back where it should be.

HEALTH VIBES TO JOHN G ~~~~~~~~~

Whew! BK, what a scary thing to go through. Glad it had a happy ending. I'm in the middle of a big appeal brief at work. I've had bad headaches and felt awful all week. I think some of it was stress. That's why I continued my trial for next week and decided to take a deep breath and take my time with the brief. It has to be in the mail on Monday morning. I have a lot of the nit picky crap done that always confuses me, statements of the case, statements of the facts finding every single fact in the transcript of the trial etc. So tomorrow it should flow a lot better. I was going to work tonight, but decided there is no sense in killing myself and left the whole thing at the office.
-
I watched Grey's Anatomy and practiced my flute and played a little piano. Whoosh! It's really out of tune again, so I'll call the tuner tomorrow and see if she can come back. I didn't have it tuned that long ago, but it hadn't been tuned in years, so I expected it would need it again fairly quickly.
-
TCB : Our local community college's life long learning program is going to have "The Last Dinner on the Titanic" at the Renaissance Mansion in Omaha on April 12. They are serving the same meal that was served to the first class passengers on the night the ship sank 100 years ago. It's a Thursday, but I'm thinking about doing it. It's a couple days early, for the actual centennial of the sinking, but would be a fun way to commemorate it.

Is it morbid to commemorate the sinking of a ship in a fun way?

It was 68 degrees here today. People are very worried about the tulips. they need the frozen ground to ....well whatever it is they do in the frozen ground...go dormant, that's it.
-
OK, time for bed. Nighty night....vibes to all who need them. Hopefully when I get this brief filed things will get a little less stressful

Oh Look, Page 6

They are redoing my parents hard wood floors after the fire. Luckily it's been so nice out as they've been able to open windows to get some of the fumes out of the house. So as soon as the floors are done, I will return to my prayers for snow.
-
Now I'm really going to bed....

One more thing, to whoever has seen The Artist, I am jealous. I asked our local theater owner about it and he said they have only released 170 copies for all of North America. He said they don't appear to be at all interested in a wide release. Bummer. I'd like to see it.

Good Evening!
Four more My Fair Ladys to go.

DR TCB - RE: The Music Man - They had the Equity Chorus Call (ECC) in NYC yesterday. -And the local DC auditions in early December. The Equity Principal Auditions (EPAs) will be held February 6-10. I'll be meeting with the conductor when I get back to New York City. There will be some pre-production work with the choreographer to keep me "occupied" over the next few months, as well as some orchestration "reducing" to get a head start on. I believe we go into rehearsal on April 10. First Preview is May 11. And I believe Opening Night is either May 17 or 18... And will run through July 22.

bk - Glad to hear that your computer emergency had an easy and known fix.
*If you ever happen to have another emergency, just do what you did this time: bring your computer to the store. They will always try to fit you in - since they don't want other customers looking at you waiting with a broken computer.

Oh...
My uncle, his wife and my cousin are here. We talked for a little while before they went to bed. Unfortunately, my uncle's wife is dealing with some sort of bad cough/cold. Hopefully, she'll be able to get a good night's rest tonight.

Oh my God! Angela Lansbury will be back on Broadway beginning in March on the revival of THE BEST MAN; as well as Eric McCormack and John Larroquette. Wow.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot.................. James Earl Jones.
And Kerry Butler too.
-
Oh...
Apparently, the upcoming Kennedy Center production of Pal Joey has been cancelled.

DR Jose, I used to love Fresh Step Cat litter, until they did the new formula. I have to say that the perfume scent is really over powering. The cats smell like it the house smells like it. Frankly, it would cover anything. It makes me want to gag
Were you responding to something that Jose had posted?
DR TCB - Yes, she was.
-
Time for me to get comfy in the recliner - a.k.a. my bed tonight.
Goodnight.

Good news. After running for 5 days, the SD card recovery programme finished scanning and recovered almost all of the 1500 photos which my sister took. We were afraid they might heve been lost for good.
Good news, DR Doug R!
And another task I need to follow up on--my SD card has a year and a half worth of pics still on it.
Half a year...is that all? I have an 8GB memory stick that I've been downloading stuff to that has things from the last two, count 'em TWO YEARS! I just keep adding to that but I haven't taken them off the memory stick and put them on my computer. ::)
Not to brag, or anything.
;)
Oh, Yeah? Well, this past fall I finally cleaned off programs from my DVR that were recorded in 2007!
Ha!
You got me there...the oldest thing that I had was about 11 hours of Obama's January 2009 Presidential Inauguration coverage on ABC. I finally burned those onto discs just a few months ago. :D

No gift in Chelsea.
Nor in Tumwater...yet.

When I first read this, I thought it said..."Angela Lansbury will be back on Broadway beginning in March in the revival of THE BEST MAN as Eric McCormack and John Larroquette."
She's playing both of them??
;D

Yikes, BK! That was an ordeal! Glad that it all worked out...and quickly.

:o
