Well, you've read the notes, the notes were judgmental, and now it is time for you to post until the judgmental cows come home.

TOD: I like the think-cut brasserie-style fries that are really crunchy on the outside and soft at the center best, though Greek-style fries, a little meatier, are good. And, well, fries with truffle salt are irresistible. As long as they're not soggy, all fries are great.

As for onion rings, there's a place in town, Big Bob's Burgers, that adds a little caraway seed to the beer batter. The rings are thick cut and they're fried to a crunchy, deep brown, so they crackle when you bite into them. (They also know how to peel an onion, so you're not biting into something stringy that pulls out of the coating.)

TOD:

The most memorable French Fries I've ever tasted was back in the 1980s in Bird in the Hand, Pennsylvania.  Amish Country.

My son and I were on a tour, "The Historic East," and the bus stopped at this tourist place for lunch.

Their French fries were amazing.  The best I ever tasted.

When I got home to Calabasas, I wrote the place and asked for the recipe, but they wrote me back and said it was a well-kept secret.

I stuck with the GGAs until 9:00, when I swiftly switched the dial over to PBS and took in this week's DOWNTON ABBEY.

*IF* I can find one fault with this show (and I do say *IF*), it may be that its accelerated story is maybe a little too accelerated and it prompts itself to "jump the shark" a few too many times.  But I guess that's the state of television drama these days, a far cry from the leisurely pace of UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS (which itself might have been a little too slow-going, especially that unbearable third season.)

Good morning, all! I slept late. Deliberately. The DEAREST ENEMY crisis continues in that I have been unsuccessful so far in findinging smeone to take over the repairs should the project fall apart this week. I've sent a few inquiries this morning to Finale folk I know, asking what their schedules are like and if they might like some work.

Today, I've got DEAREST ENEMY scores for Act Two to look over, and I may need to help Joshie with more proofreading. He knows I am unavailable tomorrow and we have to finish this week.

Now I'll check out the new episode of OUTSIDE THE BOX. First, more coffee.

Still having major internet problems. I phoned my ISP asking what's happened to the new router I ordered a week ago and it seems to have got lost in the system so they are creating a new order. It certainly mirrors, more closely, the Andrea Doria than anything to do with the Titanic.

From what I understand, the captain was one of the first to leave the ship. That was real chivalrous. Oh, well, there will probably be an opera version in a few years. I'll wait for that.

A great many crew members left the Andrea Doria, before the passengers.  I believe the first lifeboat to reach the Stockholm was almost completely crew members.  Also the ship listed so quickly that half of the lifeboats were not able to launch.

But then again, "Here's to The Ladies Who Launch."

that's great news. I needed some good kitty news today. My friend Bonnie had to put down her 21-year-old cat, Bob, who was the best cat, this afternoon. He was very much like the sphinx and I will miss him.

Because the furnace repairman is busy in the kitchen fixing the leaky faucet.  I mean, really, do you need a flowchart?  ;)

Any new books comparing Titanic to this dreadful mishap in Italy? I read one passenger compare what happened to that. Sounds like the captain was on a mind-altering substance or two.

The captain of the Titanic went down with the ship-this one, if the reports are true, got off as quickly as possible.

Today I signed up for a bus trip to Omaha on April 12 to go to an historic mansion where we will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's voyage and eat the same menu as the first class on the Titanic on the last night.  Then we go to a museum and see one of the traveling costume shows..costumes from movies.   Then do a little shopping and come back.   It's only about 90 minutes away.  I thought it would be a fun way to commemorate the Titanic

Yes......I forgot to mention when you posted that I have read the Andrea Doria book you got DR TCB.....most interesting.

I also read a book about a lake ship that capsized at the dock on the morning of a company picnic.....can't find the book right now, but it was also very good.

I read several books last year about ship disasters....for some reason.

The man who tutored me for my Bar Mitzvah was a survivor of the Andrea Doria disaster.

This sounds like fun:

Oscar-winning Hollywood legend Liza Minnelli has signed up to appear at a major charity gala in London on 29 April 2012 to celebrate the work of legendary songwriters Kander & Ebb. The all-star gala at the Victoria Palace Theatre is being produced by veteran promoter and producer Barry Mishon in collaboration with John Kander, and will be in aid of the Ovarian Cancer Action charity.

Also appearing at the gala are Tony award winning Chicago choreographer Ann Reinking, Chita Rivera, Marvin Hamlisch, Janie Dee, Maria Friedman and Billy Stritch.Minnelli is rumoured to have agreed to perform a duet with Chita Rivera at the event.
