Here is

Mr. Ish Kabibble

Ish Kabibble (January 19, 1908 – June 5, 1994) was a comedian and cornet player. Born Merwyn Bogue.

Bogue explained his stage name, which he took from the lyrics of one of his comedic songs, "Isch ga-bibble." The song derived from a mock-Yiddish expression, "Ische ga bibble?", which was purported to mean "I should worry?", prompting a curious (and perhaps not coincidental) association of the comedian with the "What, me worry?" motto of Mad's mascot, Alfred E. Neuman.

While this derivation has been widely quoted on the Internet and elsewhere, the expression "ische ga bibble" is not Yiddish and contains no Yiddish words at all.

However, there is a Yiddish expression, "nisht gefidlt," meaning "it doesn't matter to me," from which the term "ish kabibble" may derive.

Although Bogue's stage persona was that of a dimwitted person, he was a notable cornet player and was also business manager for the Kay Kyser Orchestra from 1931 to 1951.

Good morning, all! I had a ton of dreams about The Drama Book Shop and its new owner, mostly about going back to work there and not knowing where anything was in the new location. I am not sure why these keep occurring,

First thing up is the laundry, and I'm ready to begin. I'll tidy the apartment, give some more thought to the area were the telephone once was - I think I need a bookcase there, 221-22" wide and  48-60" tall - and vacuuam. My choice  leading lady for DEAREST ENEMY is no longer available in August so it's back to the drawing board. Emails must be sent today.

DVD - Here's Lucy Season Five

CD - Beautiful Voices

I have just watched some of the special features on the Here's Lucy set.  Most of the "bloopers" were seen on the first Here's Lucy set which was called The Best of.....  and all chosen by Lucie Arnaz, which means most of them featured HER doing something or other.  There is also Lucy on the Donny & Marie Show which I haven't watched yet.  Spotlight on Desi Arnaz, Jr is interesting....he says his ex-wife Linda Purl has done her act at the theatre he and his wife Amy own in Boulder, Colorado.

Lucy certainly is bossy on the set....and she yells "Cut" herself when she is unhappy with the way things are going.

DR JRand61, thanks for the analysis. I don't know if the Dream O Matic 6000 is right or not. I would swear that I like what I'm doing now much more than the Drama Book Shop work; I'bve been worried that the late owner was trying to communicate with me!

I forgot that I haven't picked up my meds for March. I think I will go down to the theatre ands pick up my tickets for tonight and then swing by the pharmacy on my way home.

Charlotte and I are quite excited about seeing ONCE tonight. I'm curious to see if there are any changes. I doubt it, given the little rehearsal time they had before this week's opening. I thought it was pretty perfect in December.

CD - BEN-HUR Wonderful new FSM 5 disc set. The definitive BEN-HUR collection.

DVD - THE TELL-TALE HEART (1961) I saw this when it was first released. At that time I was disappointed because I was expecting an Edgar Allan Poe horror film on the same production lines as the Roger Corman films, not a low budget British black and white film. I can appreciate it far more now because it is less a horror film than a character study of a librarian (Laurence Payne) who lacks social skills and becomes romantically involved with his new neighbour (Adrienne Corrie) only to lose her to his far more worldly and confident best friend (Dermot Walsh). Probably the best film which the Danziger brothers produced.

The new 4 part mini series TITANIC made in Britain by ITV and filmed in Budapest airs this month in the UK. It's also due to be shown on ABC. Apparently each episode tells the story through a different viewpoint - so we see the ship hitting the iceburg and sinking four times.

Thank you!  No they didn't and I had to give the shirt they chose back too.  I went out for a little while today hoping to find that blouse but alas I did not.

I found something interesting--It's called 5 Star Urgent Response and it's like a panic button carry with you.  It has GPS so they can locate you quickly and works like a pay as you go phone.  Only $15.00 a month.  I've been thinking about doing something--not only because of Turner but I think you all remember when I fell/passed out/what ever happened  last year.  It would be nice to just press a button and get help.

The great thing about this is that you take it with you so you can use it anywhere.  Like if your car breaks down or you need to walk to your car in a dark area.

Gee, Lucy = bossy.  Who could imagine that!

DR ELMORE the Dream O Matic 6000 says that these dreams occur because you are unhappy with your current work situation.

I love THE FULLER BRUSH GIRL....I bought the DVD as well!!

Jack, I keep meaning to ask you.  Do you like the movie vesion of MAME?  I remember the first time I saw it and they showed a close up of Lucy; I thought I was getting cataracts.

DR Danise, you must behave like other 15-minute celebrities and extend that time. You'll be a local celebrity for the rest of your life, and you've always been a celebrity here. Enjoy it.

I am surprised that one of your local stations didn't pick up on your appearance wiith Anderson.

Friday afternoon greetings!  I've been at the book sale site since 10am, delivering 5 boxes and a bag of books and sorting and pricing mysteries (Grisham, anyone?).  There's a great quantity and selection of used books that we'll be selling March 15-18.

I'm afraid I will have to miss the sale this year.

Just came across a recipe that could possibly be worse than haggis. It's for vegetarian haggis.

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Vegetarian-Haggis/Detail.aspx?prop31=10

Except for the hazelnuts this has got to be better than the original, which I have never tasted.
I forgot your hazelnut aversion. It's the kidney beans, or more specifically, the spackle texture of kidney beans, that really makes this horrifying to me.

I love kidney beans!

The new 4 part mini series TITANIC made in Britain by ITV and filmed in Budapest airs this month in the UK. It's also due to be shown on ABC. Apparently each episode tells the story through a different viewpoint - so we see the ship hitting the iceburg and sinking four times.

Is one of the viewpoints the iceberg's?

I loved the film and the stage show is an interesting revision of it in adapting it to the stage. It's much more about yearning and unrequited passion, quite heartbreaking. I got all teary watching the clips this morning. Charlotte will be embarrassed sitting next to this blubbering fool.

I had a huge salad for dinner, and in about 20 minutes I'll walk over to Charlotte's to pick her up. There's a 20-minute pre-show warmup onstage with the cast and I really want to catch all of it. In December, the last song before the show began was the heartbreaking "The Dawning of the Day," sung by David Patrick Kelly, who plays the boy's father.  I'm curious to see if the numbers change. Also, Charlotte may want to go onstage and buy something at the bar.

Morning all!  I feel SO much better.  I needed that good nights sleep in my own bed.  Toby just hugged me all though the night--he had to have his head on my chest.  I tried to move him a couple times but he moved right back.  He may be Toby the Terrible but he IS a sweet little boy.

DR George, did I read that you made a DVD of the show?  Could I beg a copy?  I didn't get one and would really like to have it.  Many thanks!

Danise, I would be more than happy to send you a copy!  I'm surprised that the show didn't give you a copy...I just assumed that they would.

DR Danise:  Was this incident with you either falling or passing out the same incident that occurred when your were washing your car?

No.  I was on this board, needed a drink of water, stood up and I honestly can't tell you if I caught my heal on the chair, passed out, or what.  All I know is I was up and I was down on the floor with lots of blood because I fell on top of Toby and he kicked me square in the eye.

You may have all of mine. And then some.

Laundry is done for today and I'm ready for a little break.

I didn't put mine away until around 2pm. I usually do it as soon as I've finished, but I ran out and took care of some errands. On my way back, I stopped at the Jiulliard Bookstore and picked up a new book that was just released.
Let us know how good it is.

I'm really not understanding how anyone cannot see the new Peter Filichia column.
I had to refresh the page before the new column appeared, even though I had just landed on it.

Thankfully, they are doing well and have enough to do in the basement to keep them busy, if they want to be.
Something just doesn't sound right there...:)

The last I heard, they were doing OK, but anxious about any sort of repeat.

Hey, Ginny. I'm not a fan of Studio 54. That being said, the mezzanine is not bad for seating. It's better than the back balcony or the back of the orchestra. The mezzanine overhang really makes sight lines bad if you are in the back of the orchestra, especially if the director and the set designer don't give a rat's ass how something is staged so that people in the back of the orchestra miss certain pieces of staging because it's blocked by the overhang.

I know the theatre was closed for a while so Roundabout could do some work on it. I hope they took away some of the dark, dank feeling of the place. It looks like at one time it was a beautiful old theatre. Now, it's just another space for Broadway shows.

It was built as the Gallo Opera House in 1927 but that flopped quickly. It then became a number of different venues including an early dinner theatre/supper club. It was most successful as a radio and then television studio from the 40s until the mid-70s. Then it became Studio 54. It sat empty for a long time after S54 closed and in 1988 Roundabout took over the space. They eventually bought the property and now use it for Broadway productions as part of their season.

Charlotte and I sat on the aisle, Row L center, and the seats were great. I did indeed blubber through most of the second act. A moment occurred in Act Two involving English and Czech that reached down my throat and tore out my heart. I'm sure I didn't miss the moment downtown but it sure caught me by surprise tonight and it was a truly wrenching moment. From that point on I was a total mess. I can't say any more because I don't want to spoil this glorious show for anyone, and I think it's something no one should miss.

The show works beautifully in the space, a concern many had after the intimacy of NYTW, and there's quite a crowd onstage buying beer at the onstage bar before the show and hanging out to watch the cast warm up. I got to speak briefly to Andy Taylor, but I didn't wander up onto the stage. Charlotte went up and checked out the bar's merchandise: beer.

The cast has not changed and they are an amazing ensemble of performers. Kazee and Milioti are not at all like their film counterparts, and I think that's a very smart decision. This show makes it very clear we are not watching an easy transfer of a movie to the stage. The revisions are very smart and theatrical, some things are changed about quite a bit, especially the song placement, and it works really well.

And the Mystery of Edwin Drood will be revived at Studio 54 this fall.   Since I've never seen it, I have already promised Rupert I'll make the trip.  I'm looking forward to it

Glad you liked the transfer Larry.

A friend who had seen it downtown said his biggest worry was the move from the small space to a mid-size Broadway theatre. I think the space (the Jacobs) is fine and they have fit the show in very well without losing any of the intimacy.

I'm seeing the film Once tomorrow. It's waiting for me at the library. I'm looking forward to seeing it, knowing that they are two different animals.

I saw the original production in previews and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm glad to see it revived.

Glad to see you enjoyed the show so much, Elmore. I really hope the reviews are better for it this time around.
