Well, you've read the notes, the notes went postal, and now it is time for you to post until the postal cows come home.

Topic of the Day:  I've never had a professional massage...other than chair massages that didn't last very long (15 minutes at the most).  Last year, I actually won two free massages, but I just haven't used them yet.  Maybe someday soon.

Last night, we had a five-hour rehearsal.  Good work was done and the show is going to be very good...long, but good.

Sunny cloudless sky this morning and the tempersture is expected to reach 86. I have to go travelling in the Underground (subway) as well which will be suffocatingly hot.

Good morning, all! I am a bit groggy but hopefully all the the anesthesia is passing out of my system and I will be full of energy for today's Big Move.

BK, I got your message this morning. I had turned off the phone, as well as my cell phone,  before I turned off the lights, went to bed, and slept soundly until 5 am when I awoke after dreaming I was singing "Economics" from Kurt Weill'snd Alan Jay Lerner's LOVE LIFE. Then, I drifted in and out of consciousness until 6 when the alarm went off.

DR Ben, thanks for the weather warning. I checked it yesteday , when I was thinking about getting these cartons moved to the lobby, and I know it's going to be another scorcher. I plan to d it in increments, beginning about noon. I'll move them out into the hallway first thing. It shouldtake me about four orfive elevator trips to get them to the lobby.

I just got Leslie Caron's autobiography, Thank Heaven. I also got Talk Show, the latest tome by Dick Cavett. I found an e-book copy of Watchman, What of the Night, a book by Jed Harris, the producer. It's about his work to bring The Heiress to the stage. I also reserved a copy of Thou Swell, Thou Witty by Dorothy Hart, Lorenz Hart's sister-in-law. Larry's reading the new bio so I thought I would read an old bio.

Welcome back Jose!

Is My Fair Lady the gig in California or is that a different show?

Judging from your tweets, your time in DC was fun and successful.

Deb, hope your time in Canada is relaxing. You need a good vacation.

Vixter wasn't involved in The Scottish Play at SCCC was she? We saw the notice on the billboard when we were in Centereach. Anthony's parents live very close to the Ammerman Campus.

You do know what I mean by The Scottish Play don't you? It's the Shakespeare play with the curse and many people only refer to it as TSP and don't quote any lines from it.

All 18 cartons are in the hallway, ready for the elevator and the movers.

DR Ben, THOU SWELL THOU WITTY is the only source for the photo of the peg-leg dance in DEAREST ENEMY. I hope I can find an original copy to scan for the recording booklet.

I remember when I bought my copy of Dorothy Hart's book; it was spring, 1976, in a large bookstore in downtown Dayton, OH. While I remember all of that, I cannot remember if I'd gone to Dayton with Jim Martin to hear a Dayton Opera Chorus rehearsal or if I had gone with our DR Ginny. My memory tells me I was with Ginny and I remember nice spring or autumn-like weather.

TOD: I love massages The medical benefits are amazing, especially when dealing with my carpal tunnel. About eight years ago, I had such a bad case that it seemed as if the doctor were going to have to operate. As it happened, I was set to have a massage and the regular person was absent, so i was entrusted to the care of the owner of the place, who also taught at the neighboring hospital. She correctly diagnosed the carpal tunnel without my saying anything. She called in an assistant and for the next hour, the two put me through the most intense agony of my life, with the focus being on the tight nerves in the back of my neck. Thankfully, it was a Friday because I went home, drank plenty of water, per instructions and then slept for the next two days. She told me this would happen. What she didn't say was that when I woke up on Monday, all symptoms of the carpal tunnel were gone. And they've largely stayed gone. When I feel a twinge in either wrist, I just get a massage and it takes care of it for months, if not longer.

TOD:

I've had some wonderful (and not-so-wonderful) massages.  The two best were:

1.  Went to a spa in Calistoga back in 1992.  Started with a mud bath (very interesting but thoughts of what "other than mud" might be in there kept me distracted).  After scraping off the mud and showering, entered a mineral bath (but quickly discovered the warm water elevated my blood pressure) for a few minutes.  Then came the full-bodied herbal wrap.  OOOOOOOOH!  That was a little bit of heaven.  When it was time to be unwrapped and moved on to the massage, I remember thinking I didn't need the massage.  I was SO relaxed already.  But the massage was paid for and off I went.  It was all upper torso...no legs...but it totally melted me.  When it was over and I was told I could dress and leave, I wanted to protest "No! No! You must wheel me into a recovery room!".   I forced myself to dress.   Walking around Calistoga was surreal.   My sleep that night was "of the dead".   It was great!

2.  This past December 29, I was at the Atlanta airport with about 90 minutes to kill before my flight back to San Francisco.  I found they had massage centers (or "oases") in the various terminals.  I went to one, checked the posted services and chose a 15-minute massage.  It seemed to last much longer, but it was thorough, and totally debilitating.  The masseuse had magic fingers, especially around the neck and head areas.  I was transported (and needed to be).  Three weeks of holiday stress melted away.

TOD:

I love a good massage. I love a bad massage. Well, I don't know that I have ever had a bad one.

Over the last 10 years I have treated myself to a massage every now and then, particularly when I was having back and/or shoulder problems. I had been going to a great guy here in Salem named Robert, who specializes in Shiatsu, but he is usually quite booked up, so a few weeks back I tried a a different guy, name of Mark. My buddy Jim recommended him. Mark works out of the place where Jim gets his hair cut.

Well, Mark is now my massage person of choice. He is truly the best and I already booked him for next month.

Boy, I guess I picked the wrong day to be E & T.  Yesterday, I missed the return of Jose (the title of my next book); his announcement of a West Coast swing (the title of my next square dance); and, last but not least, BK's enigmatic posts (the title of something) which I still don't understand.

Anyway, yesterday my P. T. appointment was scheduled for an hour later than usual.  That meant I didn't get out of there until 12:45.  Then I took my sister out to lunch at the "hot and jumping" new restaurant in town.  Since it is a waterfront restaurant, and since it was getting ready to rain when we got to the place, it was not quite the "hot and jumping" place it is at other times.  Still, the food was great, the restaurant was nice (but loud), and a good time was had by my sister and by me.

By the time I got home, my left leg was really cramping, so I decided to go to bed and rest.  Well, that was all she wrote.

Mom left me a voicemail while I was in the pool.  Her X-ray was negative for pneumonia - thanks for the vibes!

Great!  What about the medications she began for it?  Does she stop taking it now?

I think even her doctor would have trouble convincing her that she does not need that antibiotic.  She has bonded quite nicely with her new nebulizer.

I'm up, thanks to another tree-trimmer ringing my doorbell at nine, wanting to give me a quote.  I gave him a quote: "Nevermore."

I put a small sign on my door that reads: "Day Sleeper -- please do not knock or ring bell."

It works most of the time.

Friends of mine also refer to it as "MacB" and/or "Mackers."

DR Elmore, the bookstore, called Wilkie's, is no more.  You and I both went to the rehearsal with Jim because they needed costume measurements for the chorus members.  You measured the men and I measured the women and then we went to the bookstore while the chorus rehearsed.  Someone else from Middletown was in the chorus and rode along with us.  I think we went to the Upper Krust, also now out of business, to eat afterwards.

We had a heavy duty copier that hasn't been used since around 2004. It is big enough to house a family and weighs a ton. I called the building's sanitation service and they told me if it were in the basement, they would charge me $75 to dump it, but $275 if they had to come to the 10th floor and take iut down. The super and his assistant just took it to the basement for me, and I'm going to give them each $50 each for carting it out of here, saving myself $100 in the deal.

Otherwise...

Thankfully, I left early this morning to head into DC for this morning's auditions with the intention of grabbing some breakfast before the auditions started. Alas, a trip that I thought would take about 45 minutes to an hour in the morning rush hour, ended up taking a full hour and a half. I pulled into the garage at 8:52am. The auditions started at 9:00am.

Who the frell holds singing auditions at 9:00am?!?!? you may be asking, well... Some of the gentlemen we called in are currently in rehearsal for another show, so we needed to make sure we could see them before their rehearsal today. The kicker: when they got their rehearsal call last night, they found out they weren't going to be needed until 3:30 today. When they shared that news with us this morning, the casting director and I let out a big AAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!, however, it was good to get the casting session done, and to have the rest of our day freed up. -And it was a good casting session.

Sadly, due to the weather, they had pulled up the panels, so there was no large display. However, they did continue reading the Names... And I volunteered to read a few pages of the Names.

I had been hoping to see the panel of my friend, Mark Wayne Gregory, but at least I got to mention his Name after I had read the pages I was given. -And it turned out that I got to read Keith Haring's Name.

I planned a "loop" of a vacation for the last two weeks of September. I'm starting off with visits to Boston (where I was born) and Seattle (where I lived when I was nine). I haven't been back to Boston in about 20 years, and I haven't been back to Seattle since I was nine. While in Seattle, I will be spending some time with one of my aunts who, due to health issues, has not been able to travel lately. I haven't seen her in about 20 years either.

Then it will be on to Portland, San Francisco and Chicago for The Food! ;) *And it will be the opening weekend of Sunday in the Park with George at Chicago Shakespeare Theater. -A friend of mine is conducting, and I know a few people in the cast too. -And then I start rehearsals the day after I get back. Whew!

If you want to start planning... ;)

Boston - 9/14-17
Seattle - 9/17-21
Portland - 9/21-24
San Francisco - 9/24-27
Chicago - 9/27-30

*I also plan to bring along my new Brompton (https://brompton.co.uk/), and I hope to get one full day in each city to explore it by/on bike.

DR Jane, is someone that you know engaged to Leslie Odom Jr.?
He is a sweetheart!

Yes.  Do you know him personally?

I had a teeny-tiny pulled pork sandwich (there couldn't have been more than two ounces of pulled anything in there) and a teeny-tiny side Caesar salad.

I could wolf down several of each of those right about now.

Agree, DR Elmore, about the MFL film orchestration.  For my taste, this one always straddled the line between tolerable/decent (well, tolerable) and overboard.  It got the job done, but the original magic went out the window.

Funnily enough, I have a memory about the film's scoring that indicated Previn was required to follow the Broadway orchestrations fairly closely.  Jack Warner wanted NO deviation from total reverence to the original source material, including the music.  Of course, the Warner orchestra was far larger than the Broadway pit...and Previn, being Previn, conducted brilliantly.  I'm sure there were some embellishments, orchestrationally, but I've always found they lacked what I thought was excitement...just as the movie, itself, did.

DR Ron, I think he did follow them fairly closely.  But in addition to the size of the orchestra, there was something too large, in the sense of ultra-romantic, about it.

DR Jose, you can just pack up that little bike thing while in Portland. My car and I will be at your disposal and we can eat anywhere and anyplace...of course Mummy's would be highly recommended by the likes of me.

And for drinks/entertainment (be sure to bring lots of dollar bills, if you get my drift) I will take you to The Silverado  ;)

Oh, that is sad. I can't actually say that he was ever a favorite of mine, but he certainly was a big part of my childhood and teen years.

I did not realize that he had never married.

DR MBarnum - If the weather does hold out, I do hope to get around on my bike for a couple of hours.

As for food, well... I already have a "List" - most of which I know I won't be able to get to. I also have some Chefs that I'm supposed to check-in with, so... I'm sure I'll end up well-fed regardless. ;)

What do the airlines charge for each flight?

DR Jane - Thankfully, I'm flying out west on Jet Blue - one free checked bag, and I'm flying back east on Southwest - two free checked bags. So I'll only have two flight segments where I'll have to shell out an additional $25.

My Brompton has it's own "luggage" and it's small enough to be considered standard checked baggage - no extra bicycle charge.

*And I'm taking Amtrak from Seattle to Portland.

In other news I have found a use for Facebook (sorry BK).  You know I've been struggling with the stupid insurance company to pay my claim for Short Term Disability. Well I found out they have a Facebook page.  I posted:  "It's been over 2 months since you denied my claim and I sent my rebuttal.  I want to know what your answer is or do I have to sue you?".

Well that got a response.  They sent me a message saying they wanted "reach out to me and to please give them a contact number".  I did and received a call from the home office asking what was going on.  I explained the whole thing to them and was promised I would have an answer within 72 hours.  It didn't even take that long.  I got a call this afternoon telling me they would pay my claim and have already been in touch with my employer to find out when I returned to work.

In yet other news, I received the dogs Thunder Shirts.  It was so cute.  I put Sheena's on first to make sure it fit and then took it off of her.  She hopped around like a bunny with it on so I didn't think she liked it.

Then I put Toby's on to see if it fit and Sheena got all jealous, went over and nudged her shirt and sat down.  I asked her if she wanted her shirt back on so I put it on her and she wiggled like she was all happy about it.  Toby seems to really like his as well.  He was all a wiggle as well.  I left it on them for a few minutes and they both seemed to settle down.  I think they really like it!

Of course we have had rain and lighting storms every day.  Until today when they received their shirts.  I know the time will come when I can try them but it never fails to amaze me at the timing.  Or lack there of.

I hadn't heard of Tasty 'n' Sons & it has been awhile since I've been able to go to Toro Bravo.  Since we had to leave Sherlock in the car when we visited Bryan we usually ate at TB during our winter visits.  Of course I would rather have Sherlock than eat at Toro Bravo.

They are such different restaurants.  Looking at the menu I can see why T'n'S appeals to you, plus the excellent ratings.

The move went really smoothly, but long. I locked up the office at 9:30 and took a taxi home. Tomorrow I have to be there by 10am to pay the movers who are carting off the huge copier.

Our paralegal Geri arrived about 6:45 and the moving crew arrived around 7:15, and they were great. The two young who were in and out of the office with dollies of bookcases, filing cabinets and azillion cartons were two of the four who picked up my stuff earlier here. The other two stayed with the truck, unloading things, while the two who came in and out of the office with their supervisor were around 20-23 years old and members of the Lithuanian college wrestling or weight lifting team; they were really really strong. Mikey would have giggled through the move like a 12 year-old girl and pondered dating them in about 40 years.

So, the office is a mess but everything is moved in. Tomorrow I begin the clean up. I'm having some soup and going to bed.

Yes we do indeed know what is meant by the Scottish play - unfortunately the Vixter has been attending the Grant campus and has never had an opportunity to be part of the theatre activities

if you ever go to a show at Ammerman there is a wall in the lobby that shows pictures of the casts an crews of the various decades -  in the 1970s section  there is a picture of the crew of one of the shows - and there in the center sits my 19 year old self

thre is a wonderful episode of the Black Adder III that involves actors which makes much use of the curse of the Scottish play

Good Evening!

Well... I'm basically packed. Now I'm (still) in the midst of organizing and cleaning... And deciding exactly what I feel and know I don't need to take with me. Frankly, I am sort of proud of myself for just how much I am "not taking" already. The big decision will be whether I will take my MacBook or just depend on my iPad for my computer needs. We shall see...

DR JoseP, does that mean that you would prefer to go around to the eating places on your own?

If that is the case I certainly will understand, but I do hope that we can still meet up while you are in town. I would really like to take you around to see the sights, or at least some of them.

DR MBarnum - I'll show you mine, and you can show me yours. ;D

And vibes and prayers for Stef. My friend Carol had been diagnosed with a blood clot in her lung recently and is recovering slowly but surely. Hoping the same happens for Stef.

Listening to an upcoming Kritzerland project - very good score.  And since I make an appearance in the film, it's only fitting it will be a Kritzerland CD.

It's been a day.  The last week of camp has been trying.  Kids are working hard, it's the other people on the production team that are bugging me.  I'm tired.  Off to bed.
