This weekend, I recorded "Exodus" with Paul Newman for my dad.  I'm recording it from my DVR to my DVD burner.  Aside from it being so long, I'm really surprised at how may times the actors walk into the very obvious shadow of the camera.  What's that all about? :-\

Did anyone really find Paul Newman believable as a Jew?

Oh!  I was going to post Jane's 45000th post plateau, but Photobucket doesn't seem to be working.  I can't log in!  I keep getting the message:

I got that message yesterday afternoon...not a good sign.

Good morning, all! Yesterday, we began the first session with Annalene and Jim, our romantic couple. We started with their waltz, "Here's A Kiss," and then went back to "Here In My Arms" for a couple of more takes. We gave them a break and moved on to the Exit Music, then recorded therm in "Bye and Bye." We did a runthrough of the Overture, and broke for dinner. The second session, which began at 6:30, finished the Overture, we moved on to the Bows, and finished up with the Intermezzo between Act Two and the Epilogue. We finished about 9pm, struck, and joined the cast at the Whitefriar Grill for dinner. I had a wonderful cheese souffle and too much wine. We closed the restaurant and then we - our producers Joe and Jonathan, conductor David, Kim, Hal, Jim, Joe, and I - went back to the Hibernian Club bar and the party went on until 2am. Annalene was smart and left the restaurant around 10:30 since she and the beautiful baby Harry were off to London at 8:45 this morning.

So, I got to bed around 3am, and I woke around 8:15, so I could say goodbye to the. I then had breakfast with Kim, Hal, and Jim, and said goodbye to them at 10am. Now, I will pack and take a nap. After that, I have a meeting at 5pm with Joe, Jonathan and David - a postmortem - and then dinner with Joe and Jonathan and their ladies.

I think we've made a lovely recording and I cannot wait to hear the first edit.

Good morning all!  Looks like I AM going to Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving.  Will book my flight tonight, I just want to call the kennel first to see if they will take the dogs for the five days I will be gone.  If they will I will book my flight to leave at one on tuesday so I can drop the dogs off at the kennel before going to the airport.

Thank you DR Elmore for the rock!  It's my first Iriish rock.  I have one from England but it is (until now) my only foreign county rock.

My doctor said that I have cysts in both kidneys but that 9mm stone only shows up on one type of X-ray not the others so he is puzzled as to the "ghost stone" and wants to monitor it before doing anything.  As long as I feel well, he said not to worry about it but to see him right away if I have any pain or pass blood. Forty dollars, please.  Gezzz I could have told you that!

Travel vibes for our dear BK.

Enjoy your last day abroad, DR Elmore!

Vibes to all who need or want them.

Have a wonder filled day!

That's wonderful advice from your doctor, Danise.  Everybody should try to see a doctor  if they have any pain or pass blood.  That should be on a sampler.

And I have packed. Tomorrow morning, I pack up the meds and toiletries, but everythingelse is ready to go. I'm glad I checked the Aer Lingus printout: I thought I was flying an hour later than I actually am, so I need to be up earlier than I anticipated.

I think I saw my friend Bob Zubrycki in one of the session photos DR ChasSmith posted. I wish I could have bewen there. Lanny's work is so good.

When you're in Pittsburgh, please try to have lunch with Ann Miner and become her close friend for a few years, so that she can a few years later turn on you and treat you like a cold piece of garbage.   :)

I was talking with a friend JIm last night about how every odd this is actually, that this happening in FRIENDSHIPS happens like - never.  Maybe once in a great while when a marriage fails.  Maybe when a business relationship fails.  But a friendship, of any sort - just about never, that two people are just friends, the friendship ends, and for whatever reason, instead of the friends just co-existing in the world where they run into each other all the time, one of them (all IMHO of course, though I think it's all documented in emails) actively, continually, viciously, maliciously, evilly, mistreats the other person WORSE than they would other people than they never knew as good friends.

One wonders at the psychology of it - perhaps it was for those months that it bothered her that  this person who she decided wasn;t her friend any more was still at her chat board and wasn;t leaving - but it was a theater chat board that had hundreds of epople who weren't her "friends" - ever, and I'd been on the chat board before I'd been her friend - but it actually made me now wonder if the horrible, miserable, pathological, mistreatment (because it was sou outside human behavior for friends) was actually an attempt over that time to make it so unpleasant that I'd leave, but the fun was still outweighing the unpleasant ness with her, so i stayed until somehow she found a bizarre excuse to "ban" me, etc, etc, etc. Then the stuff with govt filings started and THEN -only then -  tangible unpleasantness towards her started form my side.

Thanks for letting me get this out.

Don't know if anyone read that, but it felt good to write it out publicly

I am off to the dentist in a couple of hours, for a replacement crown.  When I was in for my checkup last month they saw that something had happened to one of the two crowns she'd put in a year ago -- nothing I can detect, but there's a break in it, or "something" that should not have happened.  She's replacing it free of charge.

These are the "same day" crowns.  She prepares the tooth, then I go away for a few hours while the machine makes it.  How in the hell they safely remove the old one is a mystery, since the bonding is supposed to be so good.  I'll be finding out soon enough.

The principal violinist. He's wonderful!

DR ChasSmith, it was the most fantastic 10 days! I think our EILEEN recording is pretty good, but I think DEAREST ENEMY will be even better. Those HHW vibes kept things going well: we managed to record Stephen Rea, just as I was sure his illness would keep him away, we had a fantastic, enthusiastic cast of whom I cannot say enough, we turned 20 classical chorus singers  into a rather rowdy Broadway chorus, and we have a fine 33-piece orchestra led by a wonderful musical director. I can't wait to hear the first edit!

I've been out to buy my brother Randy and Jo some silly irish souvenirs, and I thnk I will continue reading HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY. If I nap, I nap.

AH hah!

Wednesday!!!

Last night at rehearsal, I was the only one who did NOT use his book onstage!  And I had about 80% of my lines.....

Tonight we do Act Two - where all of my real physical comedy starts......I think I have 100% of my lines!!!  We shall see.

Before rehearsal, I am also going over my part for the USO Radio Show.....we are doing a skit called Ware/Where which is very reminiscent of Who's On First.....with a man who is having car trouble in Ware on the telephone with the dispatcher trying to get help.  Of course, he is also on Watt Street.....all in Merry Olde Englande.

Last night DR Cillaliz asked me about my heart attack warning signs.  Well, in the spring and early summer of 2010 I was treated for bursitis in my left shoulder.  On the day of my attack, I had what I thought was indigestion and a knot in the hollow at the base of my throat.  Funny, after the blocked artery was stented and the dissection healed, my "bursitis" went away...

I too - along with many people in the cast - am having trouble sleeping.

My only guess is that the Sun is in opposition to Neptune which is also trining Mars.....it's a wonder ANYONE can sleep.  Add to that, Mars entering Scorpio and the Sun entering Virgo.....don't waste time TRYING to sleep....get something done.

I apparently fell asleep sometime after posting last night. I think I woke up some time around 3:00am, turned off the TV, turned off my computer and turned out the lights and went promptly back to sleep.

When my alarm went off at 6:45, I thought it was a mistake. Then just as I was about to hit the snooze button, I remembered that I had made plans to meet a friend for an early breakfast down at City Bakery. So... Shower, dress, subway, City Bakery.

Just back from dentist, where the crown prep is absolutely NUTS.  I guess I'd forgotten what an ordeal it was last year.  And of course this would have to be the back tooth, for maximum inconvenience in the chair.  I love the same-day-ness, though -- no temporary to deal with for two weeks.  They put a gel on the bare naked tooth to protect it, I refrain from eating or drinking, and two hours from now I go back for the crown.

This is actually kind of hilarious, because people seem to think they're the only smart people.  it's like that scene in GUIDE FOR THE MARRIED MAN where the guy is found in bed with his girlfriend and he just denies it with the lady right there in bed with him and his wife sees it right there and he just denies, denies, denies,

Matthew Murray is a fine journalist whose essays I love and have never missed a chance to praise.  He reviews for Talkin Broadway, and Ann Miner, and engaged in a public twitter back-and-forth yesterday in favor of Ann Miner

I tweeted and wrote to him as well, trying to correct some misconceptiions.  He emailed back this morning:  [emphasis added]

Fred, I have done everything possible to stay out of this, and I do
not appreciate your dragging me into it in this manner, to say nothing
of CCing Mike and Ann on your correspondence with me.

I believe it would be best if you did not contact me again, through
any medium (including, but not limited to, e-mail, Facebook, and
Twitter), for the time being.  Perhaps you and I (sans CC recipients)
may reevaluate our relationship at some point in the future, but I am
not comfortable talking with you about this matter, or anything else,
at the present time.

Tweeting out in public where the whole web can see - in response to someone posting on a private listserv - is doing his best to stay out of it.  No one else is smart, i guess.

Good Afternoon!

Today's final set of auditions and callbacks were, well... Wonderful. Some people truly stepped up their game, others surprised again with their imagination and talent. Alas, all of the goodness made the final winnowing down a bit difficult. It was one of those situations where if we could have cast everyone, we would have. It's always hard letting some people go. However, we have great people in the "back-up" slots in case any of our first choices end up turning down the offer. A true abundance of riches.

After reading the symptoms today this makes sense.

I'm home - even though we got in a little early it seemed like the longest flight ever - about five and a half hours - I'm okay for the just over four hours trip going East, but I was really getting antsy.  I've already been to the mail place and also had a Subway spicy Eyetalian sandwich just now.  I'm listening to an upcoming Kritzerland project - not sure if it's going to be too problematic or not and it's very short at thirty-one minutes, but that's every note of the score.  We shall see.

Booked my flight for Pittsburgh and the dogs kennel.  Just trying to decide if I want to drive myself to/from the airport since I will be leaving in the day and coming home in the day unlike most times.

Great.  How far away is the airport?

We received HUNGER GAMES from Netflix today and got about an hour into it.  The disc then got all glitchy and would not play any more.  We've both read the book and know how the story ends, but will have to wait until the replacement arrives to finish the movie.

How do you like the movie so far?  I recently saw previews for it and it looked good.

Welcome home, BK!

Seemed to be very true to the book and Stanley Tucci is a hoot.

I forgot my cell phone today. After having lived 48 years without one, let's see if I can last a day now without one.

I think everyone should leave their cell phone at home or off now and then. I find it a relief to not have it.  The people who would really NEED to get a hold of me know how.

Thanks Ginny.  It's disconcerting to me that women's heart attack symptoms are so much more vague than men's symptoms are.

I slept well last night, lol.   Wonder what THAT means

Be sure to read the link that DR Jane posted earlier today.  Also, I've been reading some pretty gruesome stories about how women are far less likely to be referred to cardiac rehab after an event than men and that insurance often doesn't cover it.  It was a great confidence-builder for me and helped me develop some exercise habits that I can continue on my own now.

I'm starting my home exercise program in large part because I'm concerned about my heart health after my brother had his quadruple bypass last month at age 55.   I need to lose weight and just get in better shape.

Watching all the extras on "Short Cuts," which are hours and hours and hours long. Great stuff, but the profile of Raymond Carver is heavy going. He had such a brief life, but his writing is so wonderful to me. I'm going to have to read more of his stories after graduation.

So somehow it's okay for a site to post and distribute fake death things for celebrities?  And this is somehow fine to do under the guise of "satire?"  Do these idiots even know what satire is?  That site should be taken down and anyone who posts fake death stuff like that should be taken to task for it.

Nice to have DVDs and old tapes to watch.. I would rather watch something fun and entertaining instead of seeing negative campaign ads inserted in commercial breaks...

Would love to see Winds of War, NOrth and South; and War and Remembrance.

For all viewing I have Upstairs/Downstairs and teh two Roots miniseries.

Also old episodes of Days and OLTL..

It really is disconcerting. A friend of mine had a heart attack that started out as  indigestion.

Just noticed this about Centennial...

Horses were reused many times. I have noted that one piebald paint has been ridden by Clay BAsket, Lucinda, two cowboys, four indians and Levi Zendt in the series... PIebald and Bay Pintos are unusual.

THis particular Paint horse appears in 7 episodes of Centennial... and darn he did not get a credit

Just received and email tonight letting me know that my dear friend and interviewee Jeffrey Stone (aka John Fontaine) passed away today. He'd had a stroke in December and had been mostly bedridden since then.

Jeff was one heck of a guy, who had a lots of adventures in his life. He was also one of the few actors to admit to me that he'd had a same sex experience (with popular B movie actor). Of course, Jeff had a very active sex life...very, very active! LOL!

He was married to actresses Barbara Lawrence and then Corinne Calvet. His films include THE THING THAT COULDN'T DIE, ARMY BOUND, THE BIG BEAT, and MONEY WOMEN AND GUNS.

Tonight I finished up a movie which recored onto the DVR from TCM. The film was titled SEPIA CINDERELLA (1947) and starred singer Billy Daniels and singer Sheila Guyse. They were both much better singers then they were actors, but I still enjoyed the movie...and Billy Daniels I will certainly be getting some CDs of...what a crooner! In fact there was a LOT of great music in this musical drama comedy.

Can't blame him for Days has never written for him in the last 10 years. I wish Matt the best on his future endeavours
