Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in glorious Technicolor, and now it is time for you to post until the Technicolor cows come home.

Found a dead magpie outside the house this morning. Looks like one of the local cats had got it. Not my cat of course - Daisy wouldn't dream of hurting a bird.

I am so excited to hear the good report on BONJOUR TRISTESSE.....the movie NOT the brassiere company.

I am on the email list, so I am sure I will get a notice when it is available.....I am saving my $$$ since it will be $30 or more.....but it is one of my favorite movies.....EVER!

Even Mr David Niven's usual silly ass performance is on key with the story....and as MR BK mentions Mylene Demongeot is beautiful and is GREAT in her role.  Deborah Kerr is....Deborah Kerr.  Jean Seberg is so beautiful as is Geoffrey Horne who plays her sometime boyfriend....  The story.....the photography....the music.....it's all right there.....

This is Annette's house on the corner.....but doesn't her daughter live a bit down the street?  According the Google Street view the house is/or used to be white and orange.  When Rita who took this picture in the late 1970's was there, a young couple not related to Annette lived there...but they could have been renting.

Today is the day.....yes today is the day.  The stars are arriving from New York to join our happy band of witch hunters in Salem - Mass NOT Or.

Here is an interview that David gave back in March that is interesting.....kind of long....so unless you care you don't have to bother clicking on the link.  I think I will take my camera, but I probably won't take pictures unless someone else is....I will wait until we have known each other a few days.....

MR BK knows that I like taking photos.

Good morning, all! I slept very late, and my shoulder is indeed better today. Last night, before I went to bed, I took a muscle relaxor and industrial strength ibuprofen. Once I passed out, I slept quite nicely.

I am out of coffee! I am not happy about such news, and a bit angry at myself for not checking stock yesterday when I finished what was in thefridge. So, i have to go out and I'd rather stay in.

I am debating a trek to Toyland, but I think I will stay here and try to tidy this mess. I will be glad when this new refrigertor is delivered, since a lot of the mess is frm the kitchen area.

Good morning, all.

This really sucks with the storm and all.  We're pretty well prepared, but I mainly hope for no long power outages like last year.  That was the worst ever, and mine was only out for 30 hours, not a week or longer.

I also mainly hope that the clash of weather systems doesn't happen and that we don't get snow or ice.  I think everyone was shocked at how much damage that can cause when it comes "out of season".

Governor Cuomo has announced that the MTA will begin a shutdown of the subway and commuter rail service in New York City beginning at 7pm tonight. Some news sites are saying there will then be no service until sometime Wednesday.

Here's the official notice:

NYC To Close Transit System

The MTA has been directed by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to begin an orderly shutdown and suspension of all subway, bus and commuter railroad service at 7 p.m. Sunday. The decision was made to protect customers, employees and equipment from the wrath of Hurricane Sandy as the strong storm continues its march up the east coast. MTA Chairman and CEO Joseph J. Lhota announced that service on NYC Transit subways will be curtailed beginning at 7 p.m., and the bus network within the following two hours. Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad will start their finals trains by 7 p.m. from terminal locations. Subway and rail road stations will be closed after the last trains pass through stations. Outbound Access-A-Ride trips are being scheduled only until 12 p.m. today, and return trips will continue until 5 p.m. Any previously scheduled trips after that time, including subscription trips, are canceled. Customers are advised to adjust their plans and travel early in the day as possible and not wait until the last train or bus. Anyone who does not leave for their destination before 7 p.m. runs the risk of being stranded when service is suspended.

Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North will also suspend service at 7pm. Bridges and tunnels will remain open tonight unless wind speeds exceed 50 mph. The PATH system has not yet made any closure announcement.

Also found three (count'em) Kritzerland CDs waiting for me.  I knew THE RAINS OF RANCHIPUR was coming, but couldn't remember what else was on order.  They were THE GHASTLY LOVE OF JOHNNY X and THE GEISHA BOY.  Lots of great listening ahead of me.  And viewing.  And reading.  All those lovely things that require power.

Good morning, all.

Cedar pollen swept in with a vengeance yesterday and practically wiped me out. I now have a small fever from it, and I had to take a benedryl (not my favorite) in order to open my sinuses in order to get some sleep. And I overslept, if you can call it that, this morning. Maybe my sleep was so off, it was delayed a few hours. My body needs to adjust, and the first few days are always terrible.

Vibes for everybody else.

I was pleasantly surprised to find my normal seasonal allergies were absent in California.  Frankly, I don't even remember if I was bothered much by that kind of thing when living out there.  But then yesterday morning, by the time I was in the airport terminal, I noticed my nose and eyes running like a gazelle.  A simple Benadryl would have taken care of it, and even helped me nap better on the plane, but I thought of that too late.  Maybe it was the lack of sleep more than actual allergies, because I feel fine today.

Just heard from my sister in Richmond, Va. They are entertaining the likelihood of being without power for weeks, if the storm hits as predicted. So, even with a backup generator to keep her insulin chilled and the like, who knows what to expect. She will only use her cell phone in case something bad happens, so I'm hoping to have to hear from her if they do lose power.

When I went over to meet BK to go out to dinner last week I completely forgot to ask which was the Annette house.  Which street is that one on?  (BK's house is on the corner.)

The neighborhood is LOVELY, btw, really just ideal -- or as ideal as any nice neighborhood can be as long as the McMansion developers can be held in check.  Actually, held in jail would be nicer.

I've been to market, and I removed all of the DVDs and clutter sitting in my window sill.  One of the neighbors has posted all over the building requests that we clean off anything sitting on our fire escape, but I've had nothing out there since the bird mite/bed bug mess of 2008.

I really have no idea how grisly this will be, so I'm going to settle in for the duration. There's always the exception, but every time this has happened in the past 33 years that I've lived in Manhattan, the preparation and warning exceeds the situation and the outer boroughs bear the brunt of it. I'm hoping that I am correct again. I hope DRvixmomis prepared foranother flooded cellar.

Suggested music for the day:
The Typhoon portion of THE RISE AND FALL OF THE CITY OF MAHAGONNY
The storm scene from PETER GRIMES
The hurricane sequence from PORGY AND BESS

But the party across the street is going strong and the noise is quite obnoxious, but then so are the people who live there.  It would seem they did all this work on their house just so they could have this party.  In fact, the house was painted TODAY - I mean, the paint isn't even dry.

Be glad they had a set date all the work had to be completed by, and was completed.  Otherwise it would likely have taken a couple of more months to complete.

We saw something interesting on our drive home today.  We were southbound on I-75 and noticed a state highway patrol motorcycle blocking an on-ramp on the northbound side.  Then we noticed there was NO northbound traffic.  The next on-ramp was also blocked, then we noticed a steady stream of those motorcycles followed by a steady stream of highway patrol cruisers.  Sure enough, eventually we saw the Romney/Ryan campaign bus, followed by lots of SUVs and busses.  I knew Ryan was due in Celina, OH, at 2pm, so I wasn't really surprised.  What I didn't know until CNN told me just now, is that due to the storm Romney cancelled his appearances in an east coast state and has joined his running mate's bus tour through Ohio.

Regardless of your politics, this was pretty amazing to see on the road.

It takes many, many hours to close down the transit system. If they waited until some time tomorrow they might not get the trains to higher ground and some of them might have to travel in high winds and pouring rain. All the vehicles have to be moved from regular stations and train yards (train yards are in very low lying ground) so if there is flooding the equipment won't be affected. The trains can get wet but if the stations begin to flood or if the train yards flood the trains will be useless.

If it's not raining and windy I will go to the office, turn on my computer and then come back home and do some work. Since we are officially closed they won't want us in the office but I can go in for a few minutes to turn on my computer so I can use Remote Desktop and get some work done. If I don't do that we have more trouble than we already have.

Does your work computer have a good backup if the power goes out?

Discovered this morning that the cat sitter ran the washer and dryer.  I can't figure out what she washed and dried unless it was the towels she certainly didn't wash my clothes.   i can tell because she used different settings than i use.  Bizarre

Chances are she washed her own clothes.

No, I don't think so, she only lives about 10 blocks from here and has her own washer and dryer in her house.  She lives in a cool old house. I think she washed the towels she stacked down the basement, but from the lint trap on the dryer it was more than that.  I keep wondering if something happened and made a big mess so she cleaned it up

no we just have a wet dry vac which of course is dependent  on electricity =  last storm the  biggest portion was scooped up in buckets and carried out  the Vixter and I sopped up the water with towels, rung them out into buckets and carried that up the stairs and out

There are people who love the vets in town we have left and a few who have left the vet we love.  You keep on top of the decisions your vet makes which is better than most people do.

I prefer a vet closer to home.  At least if you don't care for the new vet or feel the need for a 2nd opinion you have a vet you like.

Good luck with the leads.

Hi everyone.  Been E&T this weekend.  Just got in from a few days in Lake Tahoe.  We had a great time.  We saw Leon Russell in concert last night.  Here is a little review:

eon Russell Concert Update - Leon was quite amazing. By no means, an entertainer, but an amazing musician. He had a four piece band including him on keyboard, and they had a great sound. Unfortunately, the sound wasn't mixed well, and on top of Leon Russell's sometimes un-intelligible vocals, it was hard to understand a word. But his music was fantastic. He did a small set with just him, and I understood everything he sang. He sang "A Song for You", and that was good enough for me for the evening.  He basically came out (with the aide of a cane), sat down and played for 90 minutes. Most of which, I assume was his own music, and he did way too my covers of other music for my taste.

Besides the mix not being great, I was not happy with the keyboard programmer or whoever that was in charge of Leon Russell's keyboard. The volume was way too high and the treble was out of control, even to the point of distortion. Also, the piano/string combination that he was using when he was do his solo stuff was both unnecessary and at some points, distracting.

I did run into one of the band members in the casino afterward and I shook his hand and told him what a great job he did (He played guitar, steel guitar, mandolin and keyboard - and all quite well!!) and I asked if they were on tour and he said they all travel together on the same bus and were leaving for Chicago at midnight. They are in the middle of a month long tour.

I'm always glad at the chance to see a legend, in whatever shape they are in. Sometimes, just to be in the same space as them is a satisfying thing. So, the concert was a success.

I loved the vet I took Nicky to see.  Unfortunately, Nicky does not agree.

I loved teh vet I took the kids to, but he retired and gave his practice to my current vet. That's the dilemma

Discovered this morning that the cat sitter ran the washer and dryer.  I can't figure out what she washed and dried unless it was the towels she certainly didn't wash my clothes.   i can tell because she used different settings than i use.  Bizarre

Chances are she washed her own clothes.

I agree and I don't trust her...

I would be wary also...

I do find it disturbing she washed towels, etc and did not tell you.

I know there was one time I sat for a dog and he soiled in the kitchen and the carpet and I cleaned and washed the throw rugs and towels I used.  There was a horrid lightning and thunder storm and it scared the dog. I did not blame her and I let the owners know promptly. Matter of fact they were quite appreciative that I let them know.

I felt sorry for the dog. I gave him some TLC when I was cleaning.

Oddly, I have only gotten two calls from pollsters:

one message was to get out and vote early in ND and the other was just after the Olympics and someone from Romney campaign in Utah called. I recognized the area code for Provo, UT. I Had to inform her she was calling North Dakota after 9pm and she said now it isnt. I again stated that eastern ND was in Central and the entire state is under one area code adn the number she was calling was in the eastern part of the state. Then she realized her mistake and quickly apologized. It is illegal to call after 9pm. It was after 9 when she called.

I hope it's not windy/rainy on Halloween. We may do indoor trick-or-treating. The mall has it before the regular trick or treating. If it's really bad out we will probably just go outside for a short time.

Right now it is supposed to be very warm on wed (high of high 60s). But it could be very rainy and windy. I like the part that it most likely won't be cold out.

But I go to Dunkin' Donuts or Pret A Manger so I'll be fine. Of course they are most likely closed tomorrow as well but I have coffee in the house and if it's not pouring rain or wind blowing the roof off our building I can always walk to the corner deli or diner and get coffee. They never close. They didn't close during Irene and I doubt they will close tomorrow or Tuesday.

I hope she doesn't numb my jaw too much, after the dentist, I have to get a client ready to testify on Tuesday and do a hearing in the afternoon.

If they are just swapping out the crown, they shouldn't have to numb you at all.

Thanks TCB.  I think that's what she said last time I was in, but I really hate going to the dentist, so I'm not sure if I remember right

I am really hoping that the east coast is not too terribly roughed up by Sandy! Plenty of vibes that direction, just in case!

Just watched William Castle's MACABRE tonight, for the very first time. Quite enjoyable. Now to catch THE TINGLER someday.

Aside from watching MACABRE, I took several naps and watched an old Bollywood mythological from the 1940s. That was the extent of my day.

I just watched the first 45 minutes of "Fahrenheit 451" streaming through Netflix.  Now to finish it off.
