Well, you've read the notes, the notes were refried and well fried, and now it is time for you to post until the refried cows come home.

Refried baked beans? Never heard of such a thing. I don't even fry baked beans let alone refry them.... but I must try them. Maybe I will even try refrying refried baked beans.

Matthew, sounds like you've got things together, at least on your end. Hugs and vibes to you as you work through it all.

It's good that you like the soon to be ex-mother in law. That could be really difficult otherwise.

Good morning, all.

Not sure I ever knew the truth about frijoles refritos!  I always wondered exactly HOW they refried them, and why they never LOOKED refried.  But this is why I get up in the morning, and now the universe makes just a little bit more sense.

It is cold this morning.  The only way to warm up is to get out of bed and turn on the heat.

Tried some xmas shopping last night, the mall seemed empty at night.  Maybe it's too early for any real shopping excitement.

Or too cold for the outside mall I was at.

Re refried beans:

I don't believe they are fried even once. As I recall, you soak them, then boil them. When they are cooked, you put them in the oven and cook them more and then smash some. Really good cooked with a ham bone.

Happiest of Birthdays to our Dear Ginny! A Birth and a Birthday, how wonderful.

Thank you, DR Ben!  All 3 of Amy's children have early December birthdays and there were already 3 in the family - me, Richard's mother, and his younger brother.  The chances of duplication were pretty high, but the only one that happened was Nathan, Amy's oldest, being born on Great-Grandma Palmer's 88th birthday.  She liked that.

Now that you mention it, I recall someone posting about it. That must be what, in the back of my head, drove me to place a reservation for it. I saw almost the first hour and just love those people and not just for the work they did as dancers, but the way they think, speak and live life. They're just wonderful people.

I've never made refried beans. I've never seen a need to, either. They're served at every restaurant on every street corner in this town.

But I do know that the best are cooked down in a pot and then cooked in a skillet with plenty of bacon fat or lard to add to the flavor. That way you get some healthy meat in there to counterbalance those pesky carbs from the beans.  :D

Here's something interesting and it makes me wonder if I've missed anything - I get envelopes daily from the studios with screening invites - most of these I deposit in the trash without opening because I don't want to go and I'd rather wait for screeners.  But I opened the one from Fox Searchlight and therein were instructions on how to download two of their films from iTunes in HD.  Go know.  Have to read up on them to see if I even want to watch them, since it's a pain in the butt cheeks to do so on the computer.

I did check the online DGA group and this does seem to be the first instance of this.  I also read that other members got several screeners I haven't got, so hopefully those will arrive at some point soon.

I went to see SKYFALL and enjoyed it. Not exactly what I expected. It started as a traditional Bond film but became something quite different although I don't think the plot and motivations stand up to close scrutiny. I still don't like Daniel Craig in the part but at least he was better in this than the previous two films. I didn't realise Javier Bardem was in it - he's one of my favorite actors.

One thing I don't like about modern films is the muted, or dull, colors they all have and despite some exotic locations, I didn't see a blue sky once.

Good to see that the multiplex screen where I saw SKYFALL showed the film with the full height and width of the screen. Unlike when I saw PROMETHEUS there, when for some reason, it was shown at reduced height within a 1.85:1 screen area which severely lessened the impact.

That is his new Mickey Mouse watch which I gifted him in honor of my birthday. I told him it was my tradition to give gifts to others on my birthday...but actually, I had bought that for him a few months back and it has been sitting in my car's glove compartment all this time. Facebook alert: I just went to my page and was informed that I was now friends with a Henry L_____.  Who the fat hell is he? I don't know him and I certainly got no friend request from him.

Is Facebook punking me?

And I am home. SUPERMAN s ready for its Dec 20 readthrough, Joshie can head to Hilton Head, and I can go back to ROBERTA.

And . . . two regional theatres have inquired about CHRISTMAS UP THE HOLLER for 2013! I'm gonna be a franchise.

Congratulations, elmore!  Are these professional theaters?

I've never made refried beans. I've never seen a need to, either. They're served at every restaurant on every street corner in this town.

But I do know that the best are cooked down in a pot and then cooked in a skillet with plenty of bacon fat or lard to add to the flavor. That way you get some healthy meat in there to counterbalance those pesky carbs from the beans.  :D

DR John G. is my kind of eater.

That is his new Mickey Mouse watch which I gifted him in honor of my birthday. I told him it was my tradition to give gifts to others on my birthday...but actually, I had bought that for him a few months back and it has been sitting in my car's glove compartment all this time. I had forgotten about it until finding yesterday.

Cool! I still have my Micky Mouse watch somewhere.  I'm sure he loved it.

Here's an obscure Sondheim reference...Russian opera's Galina Vishnevskaya dies at 86 (http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/entertainment/20121211/ENTERTAINMENT-US-RUSSIA-OPERA-SINGER/). :(

Quote
Frank: We'll have Bernstein play next on the Bechstein piano
Charley: And Auden read poems and stuff
Beth: (in character as Jackie Kennedy) And Galina Vishnevskaya —
Charley and Frank: Gesundheit.
Beth: — the Russian soprano. Just pronouncing her name is refreshing enough!

One thing I will never understand is why some people get all in a huff if you say "Happy Holidays" during this season, rather than "Merry Christmas."

What is tarnation is wrong with being all inclusive of the holidays occuring during December?

I mean really, why would you want to say "Merry Christmas" when it is actually Hanukkah?

Exactly!  Most (but not all) major religions have their big holiday at this time, so why specify just the Christian celebration?

Needed some gift bags, so I stopped at Big Lots on the way home. That, of course, meant I had to look through the DVDs to see if there were anything I didn't have. So, amid the flotsam and jetsam of Hugh Grant and Christian Slater movies, I found an Alice Faye flick, A Night in Rio, that I didn't have. Then there was "A Tale of Cinderella" with orchestrations by some fellow named Larry Moore. Needless to say, I grabbed it and then looked for looked for more, but it was the only copy to be had.

Nice haul.  Somebody tipped me off to Big Lots a couple of years ago and I went a few times (the nearest ones are a 40-minute drive) and grabbed a couple of things, but boy you have to wade through the dreck to find them.  This shall be the inspiration to drop by next week when I'll be near one of them.

Muslims get very angry if you wish them anything!

Watching the rest of "Ballets Russes." It's amazing to see Yvonne Craig among the dancers. I only knew her as Batgirl before. I had no idea she had been a ballerina, let alone one in a company as great as the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo.

Well, it's going to be another cold night. The heater has kicked in three or four times in the 90 minutes I've been home. I'm fading, so I'll say, Good night, all.

Had a fantastic meal at the Smoke House.  The only downside to the evening was that I hadn't realized that another soundtrack label was having their big holiday do at the Smoke House.  I am never invited to their do because I've had the temerity to call them on their gluttony, their trumping other labels' release dates and that sort of thing.  And unfortunately, we were seated in the direct view of anyone entering the dining room.  All the people I know who are reasonable human beings came over to our table and said hi and told me to crash the party.  Of course, I don't crash.

I hadn't met Caitlynne Medrick's mom before so that was fun.  Caitlynne was a bit under the weather, but the minute she started eating the garlic cheese bread she was in heaven.  I had the prime rib, a cup of soup, and scalloped potatoes and creamed spinach as my sides.  I was so full I couldn't even take a bite of the creamed spinach.  Caitlynne will be moving here in January for pilot season.  We had a grand time, I took them back to their hotel, and then I came home.

There were 2 ladies sitting in front of me and they decided to leave at intermission-  one of them said she had already seen the show so she knew how it ended

I told her that it may not end the same way again  but she said she was tired and the two of them left --  after about 5 minutes one of them came back and said    "You talked me into it  I'm staying!"   After the show she thanked me for talking her into staying and said how much more she enjoyed the second act

even 5 years ago if I wanted to let Cilla know I was enjoying the show I would have had to call her -  today it a few keystrokes I was able to get a message to Jane that she kindly passed on so Cilla could see  it --

the kids today would say  yeah and...?  But I am old enough to be impressed by the technology advances

We are asked to destroy them immediately after viewing.  Not sure if I will or not, but into the closet they go for now.

I understand them not wanting you to share the movies so people will pay to watch them, but destroy them-can't imagine doing that.

Hopefully, he doesn't.
