And the word of the day is: QUINTESSENCE!
Jennifer
Have you read Stephanie Meyer'sThe Host?
That bizarre version is a Powell & Pressburger film. I have the Criterion DVD but haven't watched it.
I liked a Met production from a couple of years back (it was on TV), but can't remember who did it.
The little boy who plays Butterfly's son is just adorable, and the entire cast is quite photogenic.

Which is always a plus.....
An extra dose.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vibes for tonight's performance! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Has anybody seen the BBC production of "Lost Empires" from years ago with Laurence Olivier and a very young Colin Firth? Costco has it for sale, but I don't know if it's any good. Not my favorite Priestley novel, but it was enjoyable, which is why I'm thinking of picking it up.
Good morning. Church is about to start.
Oh I love that book - although the first story about the couple and the wife's visions is by far my favorite
"Oh goody. Burning lump"
then again, I am partial to men with facial hair
Even without seeing a preview, I can guarantee that I will not see THE GREAT GATSBY.
I could never quite believe The Way We Were
he was too pretty to be with Barbra

Yes I have. I am excited for the movie. It's been a long time since I read the book though. I remember it was very long (like 600 pages). I remember the first 100 pages were very slow. But then the book was fantastic. Love it.
There are a few other book to movie releases coming up in the next year.
One is Beautiful Creatures. I still have to read that book (it comes out in Feb). I just reserved the book from the library.
Another is City of Bones. I think the movie is called Mortal Instruments. I have that book. It is supposed to be a great series. It's a series i've wanted to read for a long time.
Of course Catching Fire. Super excited about that.
And Divergent. I think this one might only be coming out in 2014. I would highly recommend the book to the Vixter if she hasn't read it yet. So far there are 2 books out (Insurgent is book 2). Book 3 comes out later this year. Veronica Roth is the author.
When I got to Toyland, the peculiar office across from ours, which has a lot of Mexican employees, had a large red and white sign, dated 01/03/2013, from the New York County sheriff's office forbidding anyone to enter. I cannot wait to learn from the super and doorman what happened. I've always thought the pffice was strange: I had long suspected them of stealing the rolls of paper towels from the men's room, and every morning one of the men was pouring buckets of water black from what I sus[ected was toner down one of the toilets. Most peculiar.
Good morning. Church is about to start.
Are you singing this morning?

It was a beautiful story.
I didn't read science fiction when I was young. Unfortunately I saw the tv mini-series before I read the book and never felt the desire to read it. Such a shame. I have no idea how beautifully written the Martian Chronicles is.

DR Vixmom I've known couples like that. He may have been too pretty for her but her character was too good for his ;)
Speaking of Barbra--I went to see The Guilt Trip for the 4th time today. I don't understand why it's not doing better at the box office.

It's not a stupid comedy, a violent action thriller, or LES MIS. I believe movie audiences are generally too dull for a wonderful comedy with intelligence and heart these days.

It's never too late to pick it up, Jane. :)

I finished reading the last story this morning & loved it. After Ray Bradbury spoke at our high school I read the short story, "The Pedestrian", he talked about but didn't follow that up with any of his other books.
In 1966 I ushered over and over again, loving every minute, for "Fahrenheit 451" and later read the novel multiple times.
Keith was the one who introduced me to science fiction films & books. I think it took Andromada Strain, published in '69, to really get me interested.
At that point I was a Bradbury fan and found I enjoyed science fiction & yet didn't read "The Martian Chronicles". So I have the woman in my book group, whom in all the years in this group with her has only chosen one book I've liked, to be grateful to for choosing this.

As a matter of fact, DR Jane, the movie was originally going to be released last March, I believe and Paramount supposedly moved it because they thought it would be a big holiday success.
I think you're right, DR elmore.
Maybe it should have been a spring movie vs a winter one. People tend to go out for the films needed to be seen on a big screen and save for the DVD release.
DR JANE I hope you read DANDELION WINE at one point.....it is a work of staggering genius.....at least it is entertaining and lovely.....

Good morning. Church is about to start.

Ha ha! The last time I did was the song you arranged for my mother's 90th birthday. They have never asked me to again.
But before I go...
~~~EVEN MORE BREAK LEG VIBES FOR BK & KRITZERLAND CAST!!~~~
Not because of the arrangement (which as beautiful!), but because I am not a singer. Which is pretty obvious.
Just a few minutes to the Secrets of Highclere Castle then Downton Abbey!!!
DRvixmom, never seen an opera? Since you like G&S, perhaps you might like Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann, which is about a drunken pet and his visions of love, and I can recommend two possible DVDs:
(http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt56/elmore3003/51Y7zJo8NqL_SL500__zpsf85bedc0.jpeg)
This one is from the Royal Opera, directed by the great John Schlessinger, and Domingo is fantastc as Hoffmann, falling in love with a doll, a courtesan in league with the devil, and an innocent young singer who family physician wants her dead.
The one below is an warly 1950s British film with many of the roles cast with international ballet stars who "sing" throough overdubs. It's a very bizarre version of the opera, but alot of it works very well.
gthere goes the time r LATESR ?
I THINK IT'S A CRY FOR HELP. :o
If you'd like a good cry, this fimed version of Madama Butterfly is quite beautiful and sad and a great antidote to the rather dreadful Miss Saigon.
Sorry, Vixmom. I misread who the last message was from.
