Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of wonderful gifts from above, and now it is time for you to post until the wonderful cows from above come home.

Good morning, all.

Second day of being a drippy faucet as far as my allergies are concerned. The mold and cedar are so heavy that the decongestants, the neti, and the efforts to ignore it just refuse to work. Ugh.

Congratulations on your milestone, Mike.

Good morning, all! I am off to City Center to see Joshie before I head down to Toyland.

I've heard from Judy, so it looks as though we have a September between Sept 7 and 23 to record in Dublin, if that's how the plan of attack is to go. I'm hoping this will be the case. I've sent emils to one and all concerned with a proposed schedule. And that's this morning's situation. I am off to work.

Very interesting discussion in the notes about writing. You mentioned that working on the book every day is one big reason. That totally makes sense. Obviously you will finish faster. Plus I think once you get more experienced, it makes sense that you can do it in a shorter period of time.

Vixmom, judging chili in Texas is different from judging chili elsewhere. You have a definite set of rules, such as you cannot identify the meat by sight, so if you're mixing meats, they all need to be ground the same way, so the beef looks like the venison, pork or chicken.

NO beans. Ever.

It's called a bowl of red, so you are required to judge the redness of it and how well it works. Not Red Dye No. 2 red, but a natural, chili-induced red.

Many do not use tomatoes.

I can't remember the rest this morning.

Greetings from Toyland!

I had a nice visit with Joshie and Ben Whitely and Rob Berman showed up for a meeting. It was nice to say howdy to one and all and then head downtown out of their way. I am at Toyland for the next hour, I think, before I head home.

How could I forget either HENRY V? I love both the Branagh and the Olivier films. I alao like Trevor Nunn's TWELFTH NIGHT, although I'm sure how good a film it actually is; I think it's a lovely screen adaptation of the play.

But before I go, I'm just going to bitch about the lack of communication in the professional world.  Not just music, but in general.  All email programs come with a REPLY and SEND button and it's the easiest way (besides the phone) to communicate with people.  Communications 101 - Reply then Send... the title of my next book.

My first commuting book of the year is one which I had started when it first came out, but for some reason or other I didn't finish--COLORED LIGHTS, the Kander and Ebb book.  I was organizing my library before New Year and pick this book up and found a bookmark tucked into the CHICAGO chapter and I realized I never read beyond that point.  Why, I have no idea--I recalled that I was enjoying it.  But I've started from the beginning and I'm up to STEEL PIER now.

Anyway, today I discovered that David Pogue, the New York Times technical guru, once worked with the team as a musical director and is also a composer himself.  I never knew that!

I like many types of chili.  It's too varied a dish not to enjoy tasting different ones.  I grew up eating my mother's which was similar to Wendy's in ingredients and consistency, and I really like that type.  But there are so many variations you can get into, even within one type.  It's pretty endless.  I've never had chili in Texas, but I've had a couple of the type DR John G. is describing.

Oddly two of my favorite dresses from last night's Golden Globes are in colors that usually are not my favorite. Jessica Alba was wearing an orange/salmon/coral color dress with a mermaid bottom. And she had a really stunning long necklace.  Also Jennifer Lawrence had a stunning red/orange Christian Dior. I also thought Sofia V from Modern Family looked unbelievable in a black sparkly gown.

And speaking of movies, I saw GUILT TRIP this weekend and enjoyed it quite a lot. It was not anything I haven't seen before, but it made me laugh throughout and I was never bored.

Saw previews for plenty of interesting looking films coming out this spring, as well. And since there are currently about 6 or 7 movies playing now, I may be spending a lot of time at theatres this year.

On myway home, I stopped at a branch of my bank and deposited my City Center check, and when I got off the No 7 bus, I posted my estimated tax check at my local post office branch.

On my walk home, I passed my postman whose late arrivals every day have made me suspect for some time that he's been stopping somewhere for a tryst most days. After I passed him, I heard a lady greet him with, "Hey, sexy postman!"  Hmmmm . . . .

On my walk home, I passed my postman whose late arrivals every day have made me suspect for some time that he's been stopping somewhere for a tryst most days. After I passed him, I heard a lady greet him with, "Hey, sexy postman!"  Hmmmm . . . .

Actually, the movie sounds really good from a point beyond the psychosexual. Is it worth it to sacrifice someone who is healthy and alive to bring back someone from the dead? Why would the living person be less worthy of staying alive? Because she's a woman? You could get all kinds of theory involved in a dissection (vivisection?) of the work.

No wonder I'm tired.  Around 2:00 last night I finished reading, the excellent, WILD: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail

I often hike small portions of the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail).  The section I hike on Mt. Ashland is my favorite local hike.  The author's trek took her through Ashland a few years before we moved here.

I'm promised an edit in March, and I suspect New World will aim for a Christmas release. We will record ROBERTA in September, mix everything, which I suspect will take a couple of months, depending on Judy's schedule; then in Manhattan we will overdub the seven Collegians, Billy, and dialogue for the bitchy finacee and her mother. I don't see that happening before Jan. 2014. My next project is to land the actors for the Bob Hope and Ray Middleton roles.

What a day.  I did my finessing, futzing and fixing, which took a little longer than usual, decided to end the chapter I finished last night with the first two paragraphs of the new chapter.  Then I only got one new page done.  I found out the editing session got pushed till two, my seeing a friend got pushed till later in the week, so I went and had a cobb salad and a bagel, picked up a couple of packages and then went to the editing room.  The editor had prepared a couple of variations of the opening sequence and one edit in the first musical number that would have saved us ten seconds.  First we watched the opening as it was, then his new version, which played better for me.  I made one tiny lift at the end of the first person's audition and we ended up taking out one other audition, as it just wasn't funny enough.  It's now very tight.
Title: Re: WONDERFUL GIFTS FROM ABOVE
Post by: bk on January 14, 2013, 05:51:49 PM
Then we got to the musical numbers - we watched them as they were, and I have to say that even though the episode is running exactly eight minutes, they just felt right to me.  He showed me the lift in the first number (at the end, just getting to the final note early) but I just love the original ending so we left that.  Then we tried to make a lift in the second and third numbers, but each time it just didn't feel right.  The actual episode without the front and end titles really runs about 7:30, so I'm hoping that will work for people, because I'm just not going to cut it down further.  ALL the auditions will be on the Blu-ray as extras.

I was surprised to read in the notes this morning how little time some of the books have taken.  Of course I have nothing to compare any of that to, but they seem to have gotten done in an impressively short amount of time, especially when I consider how beautifully and easily they read, and how lacking they are in the typos department or any other annoying department!

I think the mystery books go fast because I literally become Adriana Hofstetter and she is an impatient girl who wants answers and wants to know what's going on in the quickest way possible.  So, I'm in that mindset when I'm writing and it just comes pouring out.  With the non-fiction, I was literally petrified I'd start forgetting things and I just wanted to get it all down as quickly as possible and I just could not stop writing - sometimes to the tune of twenty pages a day.

I've done seven so far today and am really having a good time in this sequence I'm in.  I'll definitely finish this chapter later tonight, probably another five or six pages.

Last night's The Good Wife was so good. Still need to watch The Mentalist and Downton Abbey. I really want to watch Fashion Police. But right now I am reading. Did not get to read for 3 days.

Three days, must have been hard to go that long.

Not really. I"m trying to read 2 books a week.  But it doesn't bother me to go a day or two without reading anything. Last year and the year before I've gone sometimes a week and not read. But never once I've started a book.  I think I've said it before, but sometimes I have a hard time starting a book. It can take me a day or two to feel like starting it.

New wireless internet will be connected on Thursday or Friday.

When the box arrives in the mail, it will be time to learn how to connect and use it.

I might not be here for a week.

MEGA VIBES EVERYONE.

I've written eight pages so far and while I would like to write another two or three, I'm not sure I will.  I'll take a hot shower and see how I feel.  I did check out a little of the new Blu-ray that contains Ship of Fools and Lilith and one Blu and Ray disc.

Vixmom, here's a recipe that's relatively close to a solid Texas chili, though I would probably brown the meat in the bacon drippings before adding:

That picture looks disgusting.

DR ZHIVAGO (Is this a British production?)

I've always thought of it as a British film Dan and the British Film Institute describe it as such although Wikipedia say it's an American film...but what do they know! By the way, it's DOCTOR ZHIVAGO not DR ZHIVAGO. M-G-M were very insistent about using that correct title!

So, Zhivago was not a dear reader?

Well, I just bought a region-code free Blu-ray/DVD player!  I got it on eBay from a seller that has 100% positive feedback ratings and over 4000 ratings.  It should arrive sometime next week.

I'll finally get to see the two, count 'em TWO, Region B Blu-rays. :D
