Larry, glad to hear about the review in BBC Magazine. They don't have it on line. I found the magazine site but I can't find a review of Eileen. Is it only in the print copy or do you have to be an on-line subscriber to see it?
-
Good morning, all.
Awake WAY too early this morning.
-
I could go for some Jew-Mex.
-
good morning to all
-
Happy Birthday to the Velvet Fog Jr Donald Feltham
-
Happy Birthday to my fellow Aquarian Kerry
-
My Name Is Nobody is one my favorite "spaghetti" westerns. Although not directed by Sergio Leone one can see his hand in it.
I also enjoyed Terrence Hill and was always surprised that he never broke through into American films. He had the looks and the talent.
-
BK
Is the Blu Ray release of My Name Is Nobody the Italian cut or the American version? 117 minutes vs 111 minutes

I made the mistake of watching a new episode of TWO AND HALF MEN last night. Ashton Kutcher is really bad.....REALLY BAD....and they have brought in a couple of other guys - only one of whom is helping..... Why is this show still on?
-
Keep up the good work vibes to MR BK.
Reminder to self: OUTSIDE THE BOX on Sunday night!
-
TOD:
DVD - the 1958 A FAREWELL TO ARMS that has some terrific Italian locations on the plus side.....on the down side....Mercedes McCambridge playing one of her one-note, annoying, plot device characters.....as only she can. As ONLY she can....and always does.
-
DR VIXMOM - this is the ION Tailgater.....it acts as a PA system, you can hook up your IPOD or MP3 player or even a CD player. It has its own microphone and also a connection for a guitar. It's small and powerful. Runs on current or 12 hours on battery. NOT a professional solution, but fine for schools and churches or dance instruction. And I got mine on EBAY for about $90.

I have suffered through a few episodes. It's like a car wreck that you can't stop watching. My jaw drops and I think "this can't get any worse" and then it does! I am by no means a prude, but this show brings a whole new definition to Vulgar. It wasn't that good when Charlie Sheen was on but now it's sunk through the bottom of the barrel and sits at the bottom of a fetid swamp.

There's a guy here who bills himself a one-man band who uses a machine like this. Apparently, he has recorded all his own accompaniments and then, live, he sings along or plays an instrument. He's very popular on the senior center circuit and he was the holiday entertainment for AAUW this season. I don't need to hear him again...
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR KERRY!
-
I agree with everything DR BEN wrote about Two and Half Men.
-
DR GINNY - you have given me the most scathingly brilliant idea!!!
-
I've meant to ask this for the longest time:
Does anyone else ever log in via smartphone and have the site remember your password ... and remember it correctly? Mine shows the asterisks, but rarely does HHW accept whatever's there as correct, and I have to reenter it manually. But once every several times, it'll work. Bizarre.
-
Long missing Jose used to log in from remote and mobile locations all the time. I don't know if he ever had his phone remember the password, though.
I'm stuck at desktops and laptops. I did try logging in with my Sony e-Reader a couple of years ago when I first got it, but it's way too klunky so I've never done it again.
-
Greetings from Toyland!
-
Happy Birthday to Kerry!
-
After yesterday's discussion of our first computer.....I got out all my 3 1/4 floppy disks and have been going through them. Lots of interesting data there....
Forgotten Data
That is the title of my new novel....
-
BK,
MY NAME IS NOBODY - That's my friend/client Steve Kanaly ("Dallas"); one of the guys that Fonda blows away in the opening scene in the barber shop.

TOD:
We recorded THE ACTRESS with Spencer Tracy yesterday off of TMC. I've never seen it, so that's what we'll probably watch today or tomorrow.
-
We watched the HBO version of MILDRED PIERCE this week. Great performances by Kate Winslet, Guy Peerce and the rest of the cast, but I like the Joan Crawford version better.
-
I just got word from BearManor Media. Theyy are going to publish my 2nd book of memoirs; the stories that I couldn't fit into the first book.
Awaiting the contract...
-
TOD:
Blu-ray: (A rental) Jean Renoir's "La Grande Illusion"
Nothing else!
-
Today is Victor Herbert's birthday, too. You should all listen to your favorite Victor Herbert song. Since I do not know how to post an mnp3 file here, I cannot send you all mine, "Barney O'Flynn" from BABES IN TOYLAND.

Happy Birthday, Kerry Kerry Bo Berry...!

It wasn't that good when Charlie Sheen was on but now it's sunk through the bottom of the barrel and sits at the bottom of a fetid swamp.
Whatever qualities the show had, I think Charlie Sheen provided most of them (along with Holland Taylor and the actress who plays Berta). Jon Cryer -- the multiple Emmy-winner for the show -- is atrocious. His performances are pure ham, and his character is intolerably lame.
This season, the few shows I watched were vulgar in the extreme. When you run out of good ideas, you go for the vulgar, I guess.

Excellent news!
THE ACTRESS is a very charming movie.....I saw it on Frances Farmer Presents many decades ago....my favorite part is Spencer Tracy's first telephone call.

Hmm, care to share?

Hello, everyone.
-
HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KERRY!
May you have a lovely day!
-
HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO DONALD FELTHAM!
May you also have a lovely day!
-
I woke up at 4:30 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. Enough sleep to not be able to sleep, but not enough to feel good during the day. I'm sure you've all had this happen. Ugh!
-
Reminder to self: OUTSIDE THE BOX on Sunday night!
Thanks for the reminder, Jack, for those of us who can't remember what day it is--or sometimes even what year! :P
-
We watched the HBO version of MILDRED PIERCE this week. Great performances by Kate Winslet, Guy Peerce and the rest of the cast, but I like the Joan Crawford version better.
I like the remake very much. How often does that happen? I thought they did a great job.

Congrats, Druxy. Have you published with them before?
-
Okay either I've gone completely batty or something is screwy, but I looked at the birthday calendar yesterday and did not see it was Kerry and Donald. Something is screwy somewhere. Adding to the notes right now.
-
I've meant to ask this for the longest time:

I never looked into how to get my iPhone to save passwords, but I think I have myself set up to never log out from HHW on it.
-
Oh, and I'm up.
-
And I just figured it out. The January calendar ended last night - and even though it had the rest of this week on it it did NOT have the names for today.
-
Gotta scoot. Hope DR John G is enjoyed his vacation.
-
Birthdays added to the notes.
-
Oh, and I'm up.

Today is Victor Herbert's birthday, too. You should all listen to your favorite Victor Herbert song. Since I do not know how to post an mnp3 file here, I cannot send you all mine, "Barney O'Flynn" from BABES IN TOYLAND.
I just typed Victor Herbert into Spotify and this came up at the top of the list:

Including the Basil Rathbone reprint, this will be my 4th book with them.

I like the remake very much. How often does that happen? I thought they did a great job.
I thought it was fine, too.
I assume that it stuck close to the original book.
However, there one major addition they made to the plot of the Crawford movie that made it, overall, a more effective rendition dramatically. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.
For those who haven't seen the Crawford movie, I won't be a Spoiler and reveal it here.

4:22 this morning. Just caught a little snooze a while ago, but hardly any help.

Richard has gone to the Dayton 'burbs to see THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. I opted to stay home, because almost 3 hours of hobbits would be too much even if I felt great.

We went out to a great place for breakfast, and I had food for eight.
Then we went birding a little. Saw an American bittern and some red-crested ducks and skimmers as well pelicans, an egret and plenty of herons. Seeing three or four roseate spoonbills in flight is one of the glories of God's creation.
But I don't know if any photos came out. My adapter card has died and I need to hit a Walmart to get it replaced.
-
I always have food for eight at breakfast buffets.
-
Richard has gone to the Dayton 'burbs to see THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. I opted to stay home, because almost 3 hours of hobbits would be too much even if I felt great.
LOL!
If I did feel great, I'd have gone along to see LES MIZ, which is at the same multiplex and started 10 minutes before Richard's movie.
-
Food for Eight will appear somewhere on my gravestone, no doubt.
-
And the word of the day is: SMARAGDINE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: GREEN DOLPHIN STREET
-
Happy Birthday Kerry
Happy Birthday Donald Feltham

Thank you Larry!

TOD (addendum):
I just got a Blu-Ray copy of THE MASTER, which I will definitely we watching this weekend.

Richard has gone to the Dayton 'burbs to see THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. I opted to stay home, because almost 3 hours of hobbits would be too much even if I felt great.

Olga Smirnov is still wondering how I am. I've also been invited to attend Film School, get Viagra, have millions of dollars put in my bank account, get health insurance, have eleven free Lasik evaluations, and get some payday loans. All in the last ten minutes. How popular am I?

Proofed another chapter - four to go.

And I thought it has been busy in our pond.
This morning the incredibly beautiful Wood Ducks returned while there were only 3 Ring-necked Ducks. Last we looked the Wood Ducks had gone & the Ring-necked ones were still there.
In the morning it was so foggy it looked as if there was a cloudy layer on the lens of our telescope. The land telescope was one of the best purchases we have ever made.

Had a really fun rehearsal, then a few of us went out and got some Thai food - ate a bit too much, but I've never gained weight from eating Thai food.

Hello again.
My DOWNTON ABBEY DVD FINALLY arrived! I had an email from Deep Discount saying that it shipped on the 23rd and I was wondering where it was. Our mail carrier never got here yesterday. Is the Post Office taking the occasional day off to cut corners?? In any case, DOWNTON season 3 is here now and I've been watching.

We watched the HBO version of MILDRED PIERCE this week. Great performances by Kate Winslet, Guy Peerce and the rest of the cast, but I like the Joan Crawford version better.
I like the remake very much. How often does that happen? I thought they did a great job.
Yes, I quite agree. The Crawford MILDRED PIERCE is a wonderful, powerful film. Which is why I was so surprised that I liked the remake. The remake is quite it's own thing, IMHO--not just old material with fresh actors.

Olga Smirnov is still wondering how I am. I've also been invited to attend Film School, get Viagra, have millions of dollars put in my bank account, get health insurance, have eleven free Lasik evaluations, and get some payday loans. All in the last ten minutes. How popular am I?
Is Ms Smirnov the vodka heiress? Does she watch OUTSIDE THE BOX? Did you go to high school together? Inquiring minds and all that.

I woke up at 4:30 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. Enough sleep to not be able to sleep, but not enough to feel good during the day. I'm sure you've all had this happen. Ugh!
We could have talked. ;)
Gosh, Jane, I thought you were trying to finish that book. ;)

WOW!!! That looks like something that would come in VERY handy for backyard parties and church events - I must look for one
Thank you very much for explaining
Is Vixmom thinking of moonlighting?

And I forgot to wish Victor Herbert a happy birthday. Happy birthday, Victor!

Are you feeling back to normal now, Ron?

Good evening. Glad that our insanely busy month of January has drawn to a close. Not complaining, but man were we busy! I've been home reading transcripts most of the day today. I have about 100 pages left that I'll get done some time this weekend. Otherwise a weekend with no plans!! Well, Paul wants to finally go see Django on Sunday afternoon. I can't believe it's still here

Good night.

It's been VERY cold her the past few days. I think the cold snap is breaking tonight and tomorrow will be warmer...in the 20s or 30s. Hey, it beats temps below zero. The other night the windchill was -25.
