Well, you've read the notes, the notes had fun elements, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently looking for some fun elemOOnts.
-
And the word of the day is: IRREFRANGIBLE!
-
Good morning, all! I am up too early, but I need to discover the geography of New Jersey Transit at Penn Station this morning before I get lost there tomorrow trying to get to Hamilton,NJ.
I have nothing else to report at this time. I will check in from Toyland.
-
Good morning, all.
Oy!
Nothing in particular. Just a big ol' general purpose Oy! Apply it however you will.
-
I find Penn Station fascinating in its weirdly designed complexity, though truth to tell, I've only had reason to go in there a couple of times and those were years ago. But I dearly love exploring that kind of urban infrastructure and I should get me down to NYC to do it a little more often.

DR ELMORE: You did say this is a taping and that the show will be broadcast in a couple of weeks?
-
DR ELMORE: You did say this is a taping and that the show will be broadcast in a couple of weeks?
Yes, DR ChasSmith. It's a 2-hour taping session. It will be cut (way) down, I assume, to go with their march 17 broadcast of EILEEN. The station is WWFM, and I believe the program is "The Dress Circle."
And I am off to Penn Station and Toyland!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Here is the link for
Dress Circle WWFM (http://www.wwfm.org/webcasts_dress_circle.shtml)
Keep it for future reference. For instance, you might know of someone who will appear on, say March 17 (Saint Patrick's Day), talking about an old but recently restored Victor Herbert musical called "Eileen"
-
BK: Is Adriana's Hollywood Then and Now book specifically the one of that title by Rosemary Lord?
Also, do you know the one called Then and Now by Ed Ruscha? I just learned of that, and MUST see it.
-
I will post a review soon, btw. Does Amazon notify authors when new ones appear?
-
Thank you for the link, DR Ben!

Britain is in a panic because horse meat is being discovered in various ready-made food products (a lasagne described as 100% beef was found to be 100% horse!) so I thought I'd make my own home made burgers. This is the result:

-
Good morning, all.
Continued vibes of warmth and power.
-
I'm so hungry I could eat a horse.
-
Greetings from Toyland! Once I discovered NJ Transit in Penn Station, I realized that I'd been there before, with either DR FJL or Skip. I believe it may be when we went to see Maureen Silliman in THE GLASS MENAGERIE.
My ticket would have been $30 roundtrip but with my senior discount it was only $13.50! I am fully informed and set for tomorrow.
-
I am having scrambled eggs and ham on a roll for breakfast as I type this.
I believe that some work has come in as well, so I am content for the next several hours.
-
Good morning to all
-
catching up from yesterday
Neil Simon
Plays:
California Suite (The Visitors From London)
Sweet Charity
Little Me
Chapter Two
They're Playing Our Song
Movies
The Sunshine Boys
Murder By Death
The Cheap Detective
Barefoot In the Park
Max Dugan Returns
I saw Brighton Beach Memoirs, but have absolutely no memory of it on stage. Also the musical version of The Goodbye Girl with the exception of one sequence with the character of Ricky Simpson ( aka Richard Simmons) the play was a bust
-
Neil Simon must have fallen out of fashion late 80's/90's because the "big screen" adaptations of his plays were done for the small screen and he even did tv remakes and not for the better. Broadway Bound, London Suite, Jake's Women, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Odd Couple Remake, Plaza Suite remake, Sunshine Boys remake, Barefoot in the Park remake, The Goodbye Girl remake and Rumors but done for French TV
I thought from the mid 80's onwards his original screenplays were awful: The Marrying Man, The Slugger's Wife, The Lonely Guy, The Odd Couple II (Which I believe is his last original screenplay)
-
Sunday morning greetings! No Lima for me again this week, but I've promised Fr. Richard that I will accompany him midweek for Ash Wednesday.
-
DR Ben, I just listened to your EVITA segment on BBC Wales. Loved Beverly's birthday wishes to you! Also, right after your segment, she talks about Candlemas and plays John Rutter's CANDLELIGHT CAROL. Last time I'd heard that was live in Canterbury Cathedral. A local visiting choir was practicing while we were touring and then they sang for the Evensong service we attended.
-
It's Sunday. A nice, clear, sunnny Sunday.
-
That is some fine food porn, DR Doug R.
It must be healthy - I included a tomato.
-
Well, I was wrong about there being work. I have nothing until some scores are released by someone on the team who's taking his time. It irks me.
A lot.
So, i guess I'll close up Toyland and head for home.
-
BK: Is Adriana's Hollywood Then and Now book specifically the one of that title by Rosemary Lord?
Also, do you know the one called Then and Now by Ed Ruscha? I just learned of that, and MUST see it.
It was that, but also an amalgam of other similar books.
-
I will post a review soon, btw. Does Amazon notify authors when new ones appear?
I'm not sure if they send out e-mails, but I'LL let you know :) Looking forward to your thoughts.
-
I'm up after a somewhat rough night of sleep. Once again, for about the tenth time in the last three months, I'm fighting not to get sick. EVERYONE is sick and they don't stay home, they go out or visit and I do NOT want to catch this stuff. I'm hoping what started to happen on Friday is due to allergies, but my throat was bugging me all yesterday, which is why I had trouble sleeping. So, I'm popping Coldeez again and Airborne and hopefully it's not too late for those. I don't LIKE this. And if I AM fighting an actual illness rather than an allergy, I suspect I know where I got it - but here's hoping we fight the good fight.
-
Oh, and I'm up.
-
Oh, and get me off this damn page.
-
Thanks me.
-
I find Penn Station fascinating in its weirdly designed complexity, though truth to tell, I've only had reason to go in there a couple of times and those were years ago. But I dearly love exploring that kind of urban infrastructure and I should get me down to NYC to do it a little more often.
I just finished reading a story on AOL about the new additions to the New York Subway System that are currently under construction; especially the large station being built underneath Grand Central Station. If this wasn't February, I would swear the whole article was an April Fool joke.
-
It's been pouring with rain all day but, as forecast, the rain has now turned to heavy snow.

Two of the projects are subway related but the big one is actually for the Long Island Railroad. The Number 7 Line which has just a few stops in Manhattan and then goes deep into Queens is being extended from 42nd Street to 34th Street and all the development going on in that area. The 2nd Avenue Subway, which has been talked about for decades is actually being constructed and will, at some point, find it's way downtown.
The other project is to divert some trains from the LIRR, which right now just terminates in Penn Station, to Grand Central. It will make commuting much easier for many people coming in from the Island although it won't be finished for quite a while.

Be careful what you say, Mike, or the current Mrs. Simon will beat the crap out of you.
-
Ask Walter Bobbie.
-
Review posted.
I guess now I need to order me some more books! :)
-
The current Mrs. Simon is Elaine Joyce who was in Sugar.
-
And from what I understand Ms. Joyce-Simon suffers no fools. Except her husband's "Fools."
-
Off for a nap. It's been weird, but I stopped taking my decongestants yesterday and these past two days have been a sluggish blur. I think my body is craving the non-drowsy formula that it's not receiving.
-
I don't know those other two plays at all, but the one time I saw RUMORS, I laughed my arse off just the way you hope to at one of those things, and I look forward to having that pleasure again someday.
-
I'm in a holding pattern, waiting for a phone call. Urgh . . .
-
And the word of the day is: IRREFRANGIBLE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: UNFORGETTABLE
-
The Grammys are on tonight. But I don't thimk I will watch it. I have alot of stuff on my PVR and I want to read.
-
My legs are in pain. As are my arms and shoulders.
-
There was a fun winter carnival at the park. My arms and shoulders are sore from pulling my niece on a sled thru the park. the park is huge.
-
My legs are sore from climbing the huge sledding hill. It is so high. Not sure how i walked up so many times.
-
The hill is supervised this one day only. There are people a the top and bottom watching the four big hills.
-
I'm in a holding pattern, waiting for a phone call. Urgh . . .
Yeah, I hear ya. I've been waitng for ten years.
-
The people at the top were great. But the ones at the bottom are clueless. I go down the hill with my niece so i can control the sled. It would go too fast otherwise. And if I go I can make sure there is nobody in the path
-
As we were coming down one time this kid in the lane beside us just stood there while another kid was coming down. He whacked the kid coming down with his sled. Were the parents there? The kid was maybe six. And the people supposed to be watching weren't even looking.
-
And for the first year they were charging for taffy on the snow. Crazy. Everything has always been free except the hot dogs. The horse drawn carriage and the bouncy toys and the taffy was always free. This year they wanted a dollar for one little popsicle stick of taffy. Thank goodness i had put some money in my pocket. That is my niece's favorite thing.
-

DR TCB, you might want to check to make sure your phone isn't off the hook.

I have been hearing about this all week - I understand from the news reports that the source of most of the horse meat is France and that it is common to eat horse meat in France , is that true?

Oui.
Or, Yes, if you don't speak Francais.
-
Actually, I don't know how "common" it is but in my forays into France I have seen horse meat on some menus.
-
Church was sparsely attended today - usually we have about 300 people in the first service - today we had maybe 40
-
the roads were still not well plowed and many had not yet been addressed at all.
-
Our wi-fi has flaked out, so I'm posting now on my phone. It may also mean that it will look like I'm logged in all night because I can't log out on the iPad.
-
As we were leaving we saw arriving for the second service one of our members with a severely disabled adult son in a wheelchair. She was struggling to get through the parking lot - the Vixter ran to help pull the wheelchair (pushing was not an option) and I ran into the church to get a shovel as I could see the path was not wide enough to get the chair through.
As I was coming out of the church with the shovel in my hand a 14 year old boy was running up the path ,He asked for the shovel and ran back to start digging the path.
So I went in and grabbed another shovel only to have one of the young fathers take it and run to join the digging
So I went back and got the last shovel and managed to make one shovel full when I was also relieved of that by another young man.
Then one of the cars stopped at the crosswalk and the driver jumped out and stopped traffic in both directions while he assisted with getting the wheelchair across the road
It was nice seeing so many people jumping in to help without anyone needing to be asked
-
Well guess I am going to make dinner
-
apples and onions and porkchops
-
After church we came home and the Vixter and I dug her car out the drive way and finished clearing the rest of the driveway.
-
Nice story, DR Vixmom!
-
Then the snow plow came by and plowed us back in
-
So we dug back a out and the Vixter dug a path from the back door out to the gate
-
and then we came in, had a nice hot pot of tea and watched the DVD of The King and I
-
Alright time to cook the dinner!
-
Finished with the judging - my real choice didn't even make the top five - but the gal who won is every good and part of her win is to do one of the Kritzerland shows.
-
apples and onions and porkchops
That sounds absolutely deelish!
-
I just had a 1.5 hour long phone call with the Man From Philadelphia about tomorrow's interview.
It was fun.
-
We had fish marinated in balsamic dressing, wild rice and peas.
-
I am fighting the good fight - whether I win or not will probably be known tomorrow. It's iffy right now.
-
Honestly, I wonder sometimes if the local critic even SEES the shows he criticizes. I thought the Bob Merrill show was loads of fun. And Brad Ellis totally stole the show.

Me want.

Hope you win.
-
Well, could use some excellent vibes and xylophones for winning the good fight.
-
What is this page three malarky?
-
My afternoon nap turned into too many hours. And I'm still draggy. I'm not ill in any other way, but this is strange. Still, I needed the down time.
-
I think we can move this to a new page shortly.
-
One more.
-
Four!
-
"Once" has won the Grammy for best cast album.
-
;D
-
Good afternoon.
On this somewhat overcast day.
Took a nice walk while the sun was still out.
It's now windy and cold.
-
I've been sick for 4 weeks now.
So I just made 2 soups. Split pea and brussel sprout, and lentil and carrot. That should get me through the week.
Healthy yes, will anyone else want to try them, maybe not. ;D
-
I need a nap.
But laundry waits.
:)
-
Mega vibes everyone.
Happy week ahead.
-
Saw Stand Up Guys ;D ;D ;D
Very very good. ;D ;D ;D
-
Night, sweet dreams.
;)
-
Well, could use some excellent vibes and xylophones for winning the good fight.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You got 'em! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have no idea what they're for!
-
"Once" has won the Grammy for best cast album.
Fantastic!
-
Vibes for Sam's getting better soon. Carrot and lentil sounds good to me. Not fond of split pea, though I love brussels sprouts.
-
It seems "Pump Boys and Dinettes" has been put on hold. I think that's a fun show.
-
Fighting the good fight vibes for BK!
-
From DR TCB:
Maybe I should keep quoting this same photo.
You did too ;D
-
It seems "Pump Boys and Dinettes" has been put on hold. I think that's a fun show.
I loved their "The People vs Mona." Great score.
-
Again from DR TCB:
Yes, but first we will have to wade thru all the trashy stuff about MBarnum and the fire escape before we get to Kevin Spacey. It is all alphabetical.
;D
That used to happen to us in Massachusetts all the time. We had a corner house and the plow would come down the hill, turn the corner, and leave up to a foot of snow.
Oh. How did I miss that? I thought it might be a business or recording deal!
I take my zinc and vitamn-C every day and I do believe it helps. Unfortunately, nothing's helping the shoulder pain.
-
!!!!! 5 !!!!!
SHOULDER VIBES FOR DR ELMORE!!!
Stay well vibes for BK.
Watching Fred Astaire, George and Gracie in "A Damsel in Distress." Fun. The script is actually a little better than I remember.
Some of us have already read the review!
San Antonio has been named the sixth least literate city in the U.S. One of the reasons is the fact that no one reads the newspaper. I would have thought, given how bad the paper is, that the lack of readership would have shown our good judgment.
It came out quite nicely
Really? I wonder what would happen if you used V-8?
Watching a bootleg of the recent "Anything Goes." I was expecting Sutton Foster, but I got Stephanie Block, who's really very good. The songs sound really good coming out of her mouth. Sadly, I don't think much of the production, except for John McMartin and some of Colin Donnell. Too often it seems as if Kathleen Marshall just doesn't trust the material.
I used Krusteaz belgian waffle mix but instead of adding water as suggested I added orange juice
Really? I wonder what would happen if you used V-8?
I wouldn't have to hit myself in the head
Watching a bootleg of the recent "Anything Goes." I was expecting Sutton Foster, but I got Stephanie Block, who's really very good. The songs sound really good coming out of her mouth. Sadly, I don't think much of the production, except for John McMartin and some of Colin Donnell. Too often it seems as if Kathleen Marshall just doesn't trust the material.
I love the Sutton Foster rehearsal video of "Anything Goes."
True.
A friend of mine who is a professor has asked me twice to edit a scholarly article that she and a fellow prof have written for a journal. The first time I wrote extensive notes on everything that was wrong with the paper, which was quite sloppily written, especially in the beginning (which was written by her colleague). I have just finished editing a supposedly rewritten version, in which the same mistakes are still prevalent.
After rewriting the first page and correctly the same errors, I threw in the towel and sent it back with a rather curt note telling them to refer to the last corrections.
I did, too, but the feeling of that one number doesn't translate to the rest of the first act.
Seven!
You won't find me watching the Grammy's.
Night, all.
I wonder who our three Guests are?
-
Hmmm, John said Good Night, and Vixmom left.
Well, I believe my work here is done.
G'night!
Waffles sound good!
Had a nice day today celebrating my brother Allen's 60th birthday. It was a surprise party, but he wasn't surprised. He had overheard someone at his work talking about it weeks ago.
-
DR Jane, Allen told me that his replacement FedEx driver got himself stuck in the snow and had to abandon his truck overnight while delivering. Poor guy. Allen kind of figured something like that might happen as the guy had no experience driving in snowy weather..
And I was in a silent movie mood this weekend.
And since Netflix streaming had added a lot of silents to their lineup, I watched the 1920 version of DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE starring John Barrymore, and then watched Harry Houdini's 1919 film THE MAN FROM BEYOND, which may now be one of my favorite silent films.
-
I also watched tonight's episode of THE WALKING DEAD. One scene made me jump out of my skin, or at least, out of my chair.
-
I had no time to watch anything tonight, although I did check out the region B version of Black Sunday on Blu and Ray. Even though one "reviewer" has said he thinks the transfer is exactly the same as the US edition, I found the UK to be sharper and more detailed. But the real news here is that the UK version has the AIP version of Black Sunday shown in the US, with the Les Baxter score. While it's a minute or two shorter, I do prefer Mr. Baxter's score and the US dubbing to the overseas dubbing.
-
I am still fighting the good fight. I may write and post the notes a little early tonight and get to bed.
Well, could use some excellent vibes and xylophones for winning the good fight.
I've been sick for 4 weeks now.
So I just made 2 soups. Split pea and brussel sprout, and lentil and carrot. That should get me through the week.
Healthy yes, will anyone else want to try them, maybe not. ;D
It seems "Pump Boys and Dinettes" has been put on hold. I think that's a fun show.
Two different local theater groups have done this show...both quite well and successfully. :D
No one's watching the Grammy's? I need reports.
I've watched some of it, but I haven't been paying much attention. Once I'd read earlier that Once won the best cast album Grammy, I got all the information that I needed...or wanted.
I love that video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcs09ZaskiM), too!
Have you seen the video of Johnathon Groff (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQv_hZwyz5Q) recreating that exact number? He's fantastic!
Finished with the judging - my real choice didn't even make the top five - but the gal who won is every good and part of her win is to do one of the Kritzerland shows.
That's too bad about your choice, BK, but I hope that you'll be happy with the gal who did win.
Right now, I'm watching a documentary, Wagner's Dream (http://www.amazon.com/Wagners-Dream-Metropolitan-Opera/dp/B008MXMGHC/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1360565720&sr=1-1&keywords=wagner%27s+dream), about the new Met production of Der Ring des Nibelungen (http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-Nibelungen-The-Metropolitan-Opera/dp/B008ER9QKG/ref=tmm_dvd_title_0). It's pretty fascinating. I really enjoyed watching the Ring Cycle on PBS. I'm seriously considering getting the whole set, which includes the documentary.
I've worked backstage at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts for some traveling shows and find this very interesting. I already have another documentary in my Netflix queue, Sing Faster: The Stagehands' Ring Cycle (http://www.amazon.com/Sing-Faster-Stagehands-Ring-Cycle/dp/B00022FW90/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1360566135&sr=1-1&keywords=wagner+backstage).
For anyone who's been curious about our Kritzerland shows, here's a little tease - Lisa Livesay singing my arrangement of Too Darn Hot at our two-year anniversary show:
