Well, you've read the notes, the notes had mucous and Valentines, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently saying "Be MOO Valentine, and singing The Sound of MOOcous.

So I guess I missed all of yesterdays postings (2/13)  I had a super busy day.  3 ash Wednesday services and my regular classroom duties as well as a new elective I started today.

DD Ben is a little confused today as the cleaning lady cleaned the cave today and I think all his familiar smells are gone.  He's lying by the door instead of on the bed.  Unless he's just mad at me, which is possible.

First of all, let me say "Thank You" to everyone who offered vibes and good wishes.

Let me say, that the field of medicine has progressed a great deal in the last thirty years.  The myelogram was uncomfortable at times, but it wasn't the agonizing experience that I had before.  And the fact that the doctor was a cutie didn't hurt.  I have to spend most of the next 24 hours on my back, with only a few minutes  sitting or standing.  I won't know anything about the results of the test for, at least, a couple of weeks.

TOD

For all the iconic films they've been in, I can only account for having truly watched a few.  It's very likely that I saw others as well, years ago, but the standouts are...

Catherine Deneuve:
THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG
REPULSION

Marcello Mastroianno:
LA DOLCE VITA
8 1/2
DIVORCE ITALIAN STYLE

How embarrassing.

Good morning, all!

A happy Valentine's Day to everyone! I am off to Toyland for a couple of hours' work. When I return, I'll spend about 2 hours tallying the CD rceipts, then begin puttng my expenditures for 2012 onto my tax chart.

My horoscope tells me it could be a bad day, so I hope it's wrong.

Greetings from Toyland!

This morning was a train ride from hell: packed train and three asses who, because they were being social and chatting to each other, stood directly in front of the door, blocking it, and forcing everyone getting on the train to squeeze past them to find a place to stand. Complete pieces of scum.

We left the house about noon yesterday and made a stop at our eye doctor's office, because I'm still having pink-eye issues for which he prescribed 2 kinds of drops.  We then went to lunch and headed to Lima for the 5pm Ash Wednesday service.  After that we went to the assisted living apartment of one of our parishioners for what I'm afraid was a deathbed visit.  We got home about 9:30 and were quite exhausted.

This morning, on Facebook, Ben changed his avatar to his dad's photo.  He posted this
My dad had the bluest eyes I ever saw and thru those eyes he saw the world in all its magnificence. Today we donated his corneas with the hope somebody else will be able to see the world thru his beautiful eyes. What a cool and comforting thought.

He's such a good guy, and a really excellent baritone. When  the Branagh filmn of THE MNAGIC FLUTE is available on DVD next month, you can hear what a good singer and comic he is as Papageno the Bird Catcher.

i haven't commented in the past much about the film, which never got a US distributor - WTF? it should have! - but it's Mozart's allegorical fairy tale, English version by Stephen Fry,  set in the World War 1 trenches; it's funny but also very spooky, with the dragon chasing the prince at the beginning of the piece changed to a trail of poisonous gas. Papageno becomes the soldier who is checking trenches for poisonous gas pockets by sending birds into the space, and if they die . . .

The three ladies who attend the Queen of the Night are French nurses. It's all very wonderful with great costume and scene designs.

JRand, I know that.  I'm just not sure that seeing it on Broadway outweighs all the preparations to go, the cost of everything I have to do to go and the fact I don't want to leave home.  If I knew I could see Mr. H, I may still go, but it's looking like he'll be too busy, so that makes it a whole lot easier to just stay home.

I'm up, which I guess is what happens when you go to sleep at nine.  Feeling disgusting right now - stuffed up, coughing horribly (which HURTS) and it's like there's a fist in my chest.  I still hope this goes away sooner than later so keep sending those excellent vibes and xylophones.

Wow you slept a long time!!!!

Samantha's would be father in law (would be if they got married) passed away on Tuesday.  He was a really nice guy and Samantha and Don were very close to him.   I'm going to be going to the funeral on Saturday and will spend some time with mom and dad.

My condolences to Don and all of your family.

And I have arrived home. It was a very pleasant bus ride. I just finished the chapter about Levin's visit to his consumptive brother Nikolai and trip home.  Anna's dancing with Vronsky at the ball has upset Kitty, who's upset that, because of her her crush on Vronsky, she turned down Levin's proposal. What a great novel.

As expected, our parishioner Olga died at 10:30 last night.  She was well into her 90s and was a delightful woman.  Fr. Richard is on the phone now with her daughter and the funeral director.

It was good then you could stop by yesterday.  Will Richard have to return to Lima before Sunday?

Had a very emotional plea hearing this morning.  My client cried, his mom and dad cried his uncle cried....it doesn't make me cry, but being in the middle of all the emotion  does take a little out of me. So, I came home for  lunch, will shake if off and head back to work refreshed

I can imagine that is draining, would be worse though if you cried ;)

JRand, I know that.  I'm just not sure that seeing it on Broadway outweighs all the preparations to go, the cost of everything I have to do to go and the fact I don't want to leave home.  If I knew I could see Mr. H, I may still go, but it's looking like he'll be too busy, so that makes it a whole lot easier to just stay home.

Will you only be out the cost of the theater ticket at this point have you also paid for the flight?

I am celebrating Valentine's Day by getting a very scary treatment for my bones.  It is given by IV and lasts for a year, which also means it is in my system at least that long and I can't get it out if there are undesirable side effects.

The first side effect, and very unlikely is on my kidneys.  Oops, forgot I need to drink lots of water this morning as I also did yesterday.
Title: Re: THE SOUND OF MUCOUS OR HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

The most common side effect can happen within 3 days from a mild reaction to full blown symptoms that mimic the flu lasting up to 14 days.

Oh, I don't cry at these things. They don't make me sad.  It's what happens when you get caught committing a crime and plead guilty.  It's just draining to deal with a group of people who are all emotionally distraught

The scandal of horse meat being passed off as beef rumbles on. An abattoir was raided in the UK this week for making beef burgers out of horse meat, so we can't blame all those pesky foreigners after all. Yesterday, when I travelled back from Brussels on the train, I ordered a cheeseburger and as the picture on the package displays a cow I’m sure it was genuine beef. It was also made in France. On second thoughts I wonder if that “Hummm…” on the package should say “Hmmm…?" Needless to say, the actual squashed burger looked nothing like the picture on the packet.

I paid for the flight months ago and just paid the change fee to reschedule this time.  I'll be out that and the ticket and that's it.  Compared to about $750-$1000 more it will cost if I get another ticket to a show on Thursday, eat, sleep in a hotel for 2 nights, board Callie, pay a cat sitter for the others, pay parking, do a little shopping etc.  Not to mention missing a couple days of income, but I may do that anyway and stay home and clean

I hope they told you about the following 24 hours prior to the test.   Good news it wasn't an agonizing experience.  No wonder you didn't want to go.

MEGA GOOD TEST RESULT VIBES!!!

Good test result vibes from me too.!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think I will watch my new DVD of SKYFALL.

There was a choice - the DVD for $14.95 or the DVD w/special features for $19.95 or the BluRay-DVD-Digital version for $24.95.

The special features didn't look that special....and $10 more for the BluRay seemed a bit much to me....so I settled for the DVD.

Here's a funny story: As I've said many times here, my favorite Jack Benny episode features a twelve-year-old girl named Toni Marcus, who ends up playing a duet of Getting to Know You with Jack - it's one of the funniest half-hours in all of television, and I've showed it to countless people over the years (I've had a 16mm print since the 1970s).  Someone happened to post the clip on Facebook - I would post the link but the idiot who put it on Facebook did so with the sound completely out of synch.  Anyway, I was nosing around You Tube to see if there were better clips, and I came upon a few current ones - and also the reason I've never been able to really find out anything about her - she's now called Talia "Toni" Marcus.  So, I found her on Facebook and just wrote her a really nice note.  And the funny part of the story?  She went to my high school and was a year ahead of me, which means she was there when I was there.  Who knew?

DR George, I believe we're offering Aunt Minnie/Madame Roberta to Rosemary Ashe. I love her!

Cool!  I have several recordings that she's on.  She was the original Madame Giry in the original London Phantom of the Opera!  And I love the London Witches of Eastwick!

No, DR George, she was the original Carlotta. I believe the Mme Giry was Mary Millar.

AARRGGHH!!  At least I knew that she was in the original production.

Nice photos from DR DOUG R.

Welcome home DR KEVIN.....yes, your cruise was much less eventful than the ship In The News.

DR CILLA LIZ - there is much to be said for staying home, that is for sure...especially if meeting Mr H is only a maybe.

Callie sent him a thank you note because it means she doesn't have to go to Kitty Jail

A year ahead or behind?  I looked her up and she is one month older than I am.  I would love to see a picture of her back then, maybe I knew her.

I looked Toni up in the yearbook and found her.  She was just half a year ahead of me.  I remember how talented she was from the school talent shows.  We were very friendly & I always wondered what happened to her only I, frustratingly, couldn't remember her name.

I had no idea she had been on Jack Benny.  I hope we get to see the episode.  I wonder, if with a photo, she would remember me.

We are home after a delightful afternoon in the Cincinnati 'burbs.  When we were finished at the Apple Store, we headed for the Cheesecake Factory and our timing was perfect!  Walked right in and got a table.  After a delicious lunch of mini beef tacos, I ordered dulce de leche caramel cheesecake, ate a few bites, and brought the rest home.  We made a couple more computer-related stops for Richard and then went to see my Mom.  We took her a slice of chocolate tuxedo creme cheesecake as a Valentine treat.

From our family room we can see the intersection of Central Avenue and Alamo Road.  The next street west of Alamo is Kensington and we were southbound on it and encountered what looked like the entire Middletown fire department blocking the intersection of Kensington and Central.  We walked up to Central to see what was going on and couldn't figure it out.  There didn't seem to be a fire, which is good.

Health vibes to DR Jane!

I paid for the flight months ago and just paid the change fee to reschedule this time.  I'll be out that and the ticket and that's it.  Compared to about $750-$1000 more it will cost if I get another ticket to a show on Thursday, eat, sleep in a hotel for 2 nights, board Callie, pay a cat sitter for the others, pay parking, do a little shopping etc.  Not to mention missing a couple days of income, but I may do that anyway and stay home and clean

I hope you tell the talented Mr Holmes that it is his fault that you aren't coming to New York.

Like.

I thought you were hoping for Donny Osmond.

He knows all about it and it isn't his fault at all.  I decided I really didn't want to go, but if he was planning to make time to see me, I would have gone anyway.  I was actually relieved he wasn't going to be able to work it out.

Over ten million people cruise out of American ports each year.  So the fact that only 4,300 people got stuck on a floating barge for a week during the last year is actually a miracle. As terrible as conditions might have been, there really wasn't any choice.  You couldn't very well transfer 4,300 passengers from one ship to a rescue ship in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico.  There is no telling how many lives could have been lost.

I wouldn't want to have been on the Carnival Triumph (or any Carnival ship), but it won't keep me from cruising.

Not that there is anything wrong with Carnival Cruises, in fact they are the largest cruise company in the world.  I just don't fit into their demographics.

Let us know what you think of Pleasure - especially its sparkling score by Mr. Alfred Newman.
I hadn't seen the movie in, I think, 40 years, and it's still one great big smile. It's got a largely effective script with some crackling good dialogue. (The Asian dialect jokes in the beginning are probably what keeps it, in this age of political correctness, from being released on DVD). The performances are a delight across the board. Even Tab Hunter does what he has to charmingly. Movies nowadays just don't leave you feeling that good from start to finish, and the score just adds to its effervescence.

It made me feel good.
