Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a funny bone, and now it is time for you to post until the funny cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GELASIN!
-
Well, Theater Artists Olympia (http://www.olytheater.com/) has the final poster art for the "One Heist Told Twice..." production of "Reservoir Dogs"! Here it is:
If you know the movie, the colors on the poster represent the character's names. The show has been double cast so there's an all-male cast (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/342845) and an all-female cast (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/342871), who'll perform on alternate nights. :D

We saw HANDS ON A HARDBODY this weekend, my first venture to going to see a Broadway show after a very challenging (at least for me) winter health-wise which some of you reading here know about but I won't go into too much detail about online.
I'm a fan of literally the entire creative team - Amanda Green, Doug Wright, Trey Anastasio (he of great wonderful Phish fame to followers of pop music), director Neil Pepe, choreographer Sergio Trujillo - so i expected to be delighted by the craft. But even Charles Isherwood's excellent review of the La Jolla production had not prepared me for the show to be an emotional experience. i guess i should have known Doug Wright would not do a lightweight show, but he had done Little Mermaid, and after all, i always think of Amanda Green as laugh-out-loud funny. So even having taken in the reviews, the emotional strength of the show was surprising and quite thrilling.
I gather the show has been controversial on chat areas, but the reviews from la Jolla were great as far as I can tell. go figure..
-
Having said that, I think the TV commercial does not fully prepare you for what the show is.
I don;t understand how TV ad research works, though.
-
A work day today, following on from which I will go to meet some friends for an evening drink.
-
Hope to be back posting more if things have calmed down.

Good morning, all!
The neighbor above me did not arrive home until around 6:00am. Still, he's not as bad as the shithead realtor with the drug problems of several years ago. My gain there is Toronto's loss, since his Facebook page says he's back in his hometown.
Today is the orchestra reading of the SUPERMAN score for Encores! and we'll see how many wrong notes I missed in my proofreadng. Yesterday was Joshie's birthday, so I have a gift for him, and I look forward to seeing several friends.
DR Matthew, I know of only one recording in English of MADAME BUTTERFLY, and it's this one. Is this the one you purchased? I don't know if I have this since it would be at the office, but I have quite a few of this Opera In English series from Chandos. Some of them are quite good. I've been buying them to hear singers from the UK singing English.

Good morning, all.
Thanks for the update on Hands on a Hardbody, FJL. I'm really interested in the show. I had loved the documentary and a fictional remake was supposed to have been the film that Robert Altman made after A Prairie Home Companion. I was interested in reading that the musical actually keeps the characters from the movie. And Amanda is Adolph's daughter, so her progress as a lyricist has been interesting to chart.

Congrats, Matthew.
And, by the way, I like opera in English. If the French can translate Follies, then we can translate Madame Butterfly. I wish more opera companies would perform their works in English.

Happy Monday! The latest Broadway Radio Show is up on the site for your listening pleasure. This time we listen to 5 new CD releases from 5 very talented ladies. We have new music from Emmy Rossum, Kimberley Walsh, Christiane Noll, Shoshana Bean, and Megan Hilty. Enjoy!

I've often noticed how Japanese you look, Elmore. Even when you aren't wearing a kimono. Did you have your feet bound as a child? It might explain things.

BK,
I'm shocked...SHOCKED that you've never seen it.

EASTER PARADE is my favorite Fred Astaire movie.

I, too, love EASTER PARADE! And it's almost time for my annual viewing...

Thanks for sharing the link DR GINNY. This is indeed GOOD NEWS....
-
In EASTER PARADE, I like how Ann Miller says to her maid before she does her big number "Bring me my slippers"......because after the number which she does in high heels, she steps out from behind the curtain and dances with Fred in flats....that's some QUICK shoe change!!!
-
DR Matthew it is nice to see you happy.
Thanks, DR Jane!
-
Congrats, Matthew.
And, by the way, I like opera in English. If the French can translate Follies, then we can translate Madame Butterfly. I wish more opera companies would perform their works in English.
Thanks, DR JohnG. I have actually seen Madam Butterfly a long time ago. In fact, it was my first opera I ever saw. Someone suggested I listen to it again as I'm working on Miss Saigon at the moment to try and hear musical similarities that have made it into the musical. I thought English was the best way to do that.

I was sad to read THIS (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/175554-Bonnie-Franklin-Star-of-Sitcom-One-Day-at-a-Time-Dies-at-69-) this morning.

That is some wonderful news for DR Danise. Let's hope this time it sticks! :)
-
I'm up, I'm up. I fell asleep very quickly but woke up at three with a slight allergy attack - took a pill and fell back asleep around four.
-
Yes, Angie's list responded to one of my posts. Haven't got any notice that Anderson has. I responded to the response and asked if there was any timeline set up for getting the work done and that it would help if there was one because it's hard to keep the faith when someone comes and does something and then long periods of time go by with nothing happening.
Sounds like the plumber is donating all his services. That's a great start.
-
LOL Looks like Angie cut and pasted her response to Jane and Ginny and me.
-
At least it is known that Danise has friends out there who aren't afraid to speak up for her!
-
Amen.
-
Jodi Arias is getting re-crossed by her attorney....and she is back to her old self.....only watched a couple of minutes of it....not much interested in this part.
-
Have spent a frustrating hour today trying to get Bank of America to straighten out a mess that it caused. Glad I will soon be discontinuing business with them.
-
Jodi Arias is getting re-crossed by her attorney....and she is back to her old self.....only watched a couple of minutes of it....not much interested in this part.
BORING. I tried to watch for a little while. Her defense attorney is so boring and slow, I really can't watch it.

Does somebody think that numbing them with boring testimony will forget how she behaved under cross-examiination?

DR Jane did you see the question I asked last night re your facebook comment. Sorry I cannot quote it cause I am on my kindle.
Sorry I missed it:
What is a follow option and how do you know if it is off? And how did she discover it?
I guess she looked at it, which is good because someone following her is a creepy guy on the West Los Angeles group that a number of women I know have had to block.
Click on your friends. When the page opens, at the top left you will see your name & to the right of that the friends box with the down arrow next to it. Click on the arrow. The 6th option down is "following". Click on that & you can see who has the option to follow people. I think if you have the "follow" option turned on, which I don't, you can also see who is following you as in watching what you always have to say. The scary thing was that my friend had a few names listed that she wasn't friends with, including this creep whom she has now blocked.
-

I love it, too. I've always sort of thought of it as a musical version of Pygmalian...sort of. ;)

Happy Grammar Day!

Three!
-
I remember getting to see Easter Parade on the big screen back when I was in high school. I remember the colors not being as saturated as some of the Vincente Minnelli's movies. But I thought Astaire and Garland were beautifully natural together. Very complementary.
-
A continuation of a thread from last week or so. I got this press release in an email today:
"Hi John,
As you may know, National American Chocolate Week is the third week in March (March 18 – 23)."
-
I have probably never seen most of EASTER PARADE. Some clips, certainly. I did get the 2-disc DVD set a few years back, but haven't watched it. I'm sure I'll end up with the Blu-ray, but it's not high on my list. What was high on my list was THE MASTER (sorry, DR Jane!) which I just picked up at Costco, and which I will very likely be unable to resist watching tonight...and I fully expect it to take a few viewings to "get". But I really like Paul Thomas Anderson's work, and I trust it to jell for me eventually. If not sooner. Some people do like it fine on first viewing.
-
Got a nice package from Kritzerland today! :)

I never thought of it that way but I get it.
My favorite scene in the movie is early in the movie when Judy Garland is walking down the street trying to impress Astaire.

It was a wonderful rehearsaland the charts for SUPERMAN are both a lot of fun and a bit of mystery: what drugs was Eddie Sauter on when he was writing the Exit Music? Rob Berman's artistry on the podium is amazing, and after break we all sang Happy Birthday to Joshie.
I arrived home from the orchestra reading to find that my record producer had sent me four takes of a reprise from the Act Two DEAREST ENEMY Finale. All I can say is that I was dumped on by a conductor I trusted, and in my frustration I let the singer down. I hope we can use three of the takes to cut and paste something I can live with since the problems were caused by a conductor who was unwilling to do anything I requested about the number. Both the singer and I were hung out to dry here and I am far from amused.
So, DR Matthew, you never told us if that was the MADAME BUTTERFLY recording!

I would think it would be pretty rare for people to have the following option on. I did what you wrote in the other message. And see that I follow 4 people/2 are authors who had this is a method of following them.
I just checked under account settings. There is something called "followers" which i do not have checked off.

Hi all! Listening to AC to see if he says anything on the show. I saw the post on AL as well. Interesting. The guy came out to mark where it would be safe for them to start on the place for the W/D last month. One would think that means they would be starting in days. Well, that call was for nothing because everything he marked is long gone with the first rain and no one except me saw it.
As for offering to do the plumbing --that's wonderful--but you gotta build the building or do the work in the kitchen before you can do that and at the rate it's moving, that might be 2 or 3 years down the road.
That seems to be the pattern. They come out mark and or measure the kitchen (4 times and counting--I think my kitchen keeps changing size) or the yard or whatever and that's it. When comes to DOING something it just doesn't happen.
-
I guess I should ask Angie exactly when this is going to happen.

Now I'm confused. I don't understand how you can follow anyone without leaving it open for other people to follow you. Facebook can be so confusing. Following authors seems to me the same as my "liking" their FB page.

Following and liking is basically the same thing. But some pages have it set up that you like their page and some have it set up that you follow them. Don't know why people would do it one way or the other.
We are people not pages, so for the most part I can't see that most people would have the following option open. There is one person I follow who is an author (but not very well known). She has her page set up to allow friends. But also people can follow her. She she isn't my personal friend, i chose to follow her (if that makes sense).
Don't really understand the whole thing. Probably people who have a lot of friends might want to consider allowing people to follow them.

A continuation of a thread from last week or so. I got this press release in an email today:

As you may know, National American Chocolate Week is the third week in March (March 18 – 23)."
Did it tell you that to celebrate you should send chocolate to everyone you know (living on Long Island)?
-
I guess I should ask Angie exactly when this is going to happen.
I wouldn't worry about it Jane. I'm just tired of the whole thing. It all boils down to you you either do what you say or not. I don't think they are going to anything.
Like I said, I asked point blank about the kitchen and was told it didn't look good and then last week I was told that because of the septic tank, that project didn't look good either but maybe I could get the money for the W/D and that money could go towards the kitchen. That tells me they are not going to do the W/D shed.
I offer to buy you a car and a year later I tell you, give me money towards it and I'll help you get it, what do you need me for? And if I get it for you, you may not get the color or the model that you want. Eh.

Grammy Day was a few Sundays ago. Didn't Adele win something?

I didn't know about the 2nd sink hole. Linda, the lady who lives around the block from me, went to look at the one at the house. She said they measured the distance and it was only a mile and a half away. And that was going the long way round.
I worry for the dogs if one opened in the yard while I'm at work.
-
It warmed up pretty quickly. I still have the heat set on 67. I think it might be wise as the temp will go down with the sun.
-
I just went and looked at where the 2nd sink hole is. I drive past there every day on the way to the bus stop.

I got the distance on the new one from google maps. It too went the long way.
If one did begin in your yard hopefully the dogs would sense it and run into the house.

Well, our weathermen are in a frenzy over the impending storm -- 3 to 6 inches in the immediate area expected Wednesday. Back in Buffalo that forecast would be met with a yawn. I am concerned about power outages, though.
-
Easter Parade is one of Judy's best, IMO.

I do want to say thank you to you all for your help.

My my my (that is three mys), this is a slow news day here at haineshisway.com. My suggestion would be to change that as soon as possible.

Had my two sandwiches - excellent. Finished Easter Parade and am now starting another motion picture.

I guess I don't follow anyone cuz I don't even see the option to know who I might follow-lol.
I have two authors, one who rarely says anything which is fine. The other is a funny guy and has talked to me on facebook when I commented on his cute Bernese Mountain Dog. David Rosenfelt is the author and he has 25 rescue dogs. I plan to read his book, when it come out, on the cross country move he & his wife made with all those dogs. It has got to be a hoot.
-
I like David Rosenfelt because not only is he funny but he shares cute photos of his dogs.

This is funny now that I can actually see the photo.

Well, our weathermen are in a frenzy over the impending storm -- 3 to 6 inches in the immediate area expected Wednesday. Back in Buffalo that forecast would be met with a yawn. I am concerned about power outages, though.
NO POWER OUTAGE VIBES!!!

A friend of mine is in the All-Female cast for the show. She is a very fine actress. She played my wife in DIARY OF ANNE FRANK.
Cool! Are you considering coming down to see it?

Lots of stuff getting canceled next week because it's spring break. I don't remember that happening last year or in recent years.
-
Evening.
Just watched THE MASTER, and for the most part I liked it. Will let a little time pass then tackle it again, but tomorrow (too tired now) I'll watch that John Huston documentary which was apparently very influential in PTA's depiction of the "other" lead character and his WWII background.

Got less sleep than I should have last night, and boy has it been catching up with me over the past few hours. By all rights I should be sleeping like the proverbial rock tonight.

Tonight I had a special treat. I finally got to see ELAINE PAIGE in concert. I knew about her growing up in Canada seeing her on BBC. But when I spoke to friends down in the USA no one knew who I was talking about. Well it only took about 30 years but mission accomplish. I also had a brief chat with her after the show.
Didn't get a chance to chat with DR ArnoldBrockman this time around. There was no interval and he up and out of theater. But we did manage a wave.

There's been a reply to my post about DR Danise on the Angie's List Facebook page, including the following link:

I hope we don't have to hold breath for this one. :-)

In EASTER PARADE, I like how Ann Miller says to her maid before she does her big number "Bring me my slippers"......because after the number which she does in high heels, she steps out from behind the curtain and dances with Fred in flats....that's some QUICK shoe change!!!
That's because Mr. Astaire was a little height challenged. Miss Miller would tower over him.

Sounds like a great evening. What were your favorite songs that she sang?
-
Some nice moments in "Hello, I Must Be Going" and a good performance from Melanie Lynsky, but the movie wears its independent origins a little too proudly.
-
Finished with my viewing.

The Brain from Planet X opens in a couple of weeks outside of NY at Cassadega High School. I wrote the teacher who's directing wishing he and his kids all the best. He said they've been having a blast.

That's so cool! I have the DVD of her live concert, Celebrating 40 Years On Stage (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elaine-Paige-Celebrating-Years-Stage/dp/B00359LVHO/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1362462747&sr=1-2)...and it's autographed! I just checked and I got it exactly two years ago this past weekend! What a coinkydink. I'm watching it right now. :D

Page five? Five pages?

This is the one. The only one on iTunes. I haven't begun listening to it yet. I'm kinda excited :)
