Well, you've read the notes, the notes rapped and rhymed, and now it is time for you to post until the rappin' and rhymin' cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OCCLUSION!
-
From last night:
Also went to JOS Bank today - they were having a sale again - this time everything 50% off. I bought four pairs of slacks, really nice slacks. They'd already been discounted and with the half off on top of that, they were under sixty bucks apiece but when you bought one pair the next pair was fifteen dollars - so two pants cost fifty-nine bucks and the other two cost fifteen each. Pretty great. They had to tailor the bottoms, so I won't have them for a week.
I love it when that happens! A few years ago, I bought a new, $60 coat at Fred Meyer. With discounts and coupons, it ended up costing me only $3 and change!

It's raining in Wales.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all.
Supposed to reach about 70 today. Sadly, only for one day, then back to 60-ish as the high which is a few degrees below normal for this time of year.
And that is the morning's weather report.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm being told by my computer that I need to install updates. So, I guess I'll listen to my computer for a change.
-
Good morning, all!
The mouse is back and this trap I've set is doing nothing. I must plan a new course of action.
I'm off to Toyland. I've got three orchestra scores to bind.
-
Larry, there must be poisons that can only harm mice and not harm you.
-
DR ELMORE get one of those round traps....they are very nice. Takes the mouse on a covered carousel of DEATH.
-
Thanks to DR KEVIN H for the Streisand report yesterday....oh those damned cameras!!!
-
I will be leaving in a few minutes to do a radio interview for the ANGEL STREET auditions. I am going into the studio because they also tape it for local access television. If it doesn't turn out too badly, I may post a link. If it turns out badly, this will be the ONLY mention on HHW of the event.
-
I loved watchin' RAPPIN' AND RHYMIN' and I can certainly see what kids at that time would love it and have great memories of it. Those kids are remarkable and the choreography is fresh as a daisy (a Great Gatsby reference.)
-
I shall return.
-
Jrand - isn't the point to get posts here on HHW. I'd say mention away. :)

Greetings on Wednesday!

Re Noel Coward songs (from yesterday's discussion topic). I see these on my computer drive, can't recall what I did them for.
Tune of Noel Coward’s DON’T PUT YOUR DAUGHTER ON THE STAGE, MRS. WORTHINGTON
Don't bet your fortune on the stage,
Mrs. Moneybags,
Don't bet your fortune on the stage.
Though the actors are highly touted
The weekly nut is really tough
Though I'm aware that you’re rich
And love the play that they pitch
That’s really not enough.
It’s a great show, and it seems the danger’s rather small
But could you really lose it all
And not get in a rage?
So be strong
Mrs. Moneybags,
It’s wrong
Mrs. Moneybags,
Don't bet your fortune on the stage.
And this one: I guess someone must have put their bare feet on the stage during a performance!
Don't put your bare feet on the stage, Mrs. Worthington,
Don't put your bare feet on the stage,
The proscenium is overcrowded
And the stench is pretty tough
Though I'm aware of the fact
Your feet burn to act,
They haven't got the stuff.
You have nice toes, to give the digits all they're due,
But don't you think your corns are too
Disgusting for your age?
I repeat
Mrs. Worthington,
Your feet
Mrs. Worthington,
Don't put your bare feet on the stage.
-
I shall return.
To quote what the IRS said to Natalie Cole on April 15th: "I'll be waiting for your return"
-
;D
-
Morning.
Good morning.
;D
-
I did nothing last night.
It felt good to stay in.
;D
-
Off to work.
Mega vibes everyone for Wednesday.
:) ;) ;D 8)

Maybe it's having to scramble, maybe it's just that younger people don't give proper respect to the albums for some reason, but sometimes I think maybe even BK forgets how many many people truly enjoyed what he did all the years as he was doing it.
When we went to the premiere evening of FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL in NYC at the 68th Street Playhouse, it was not some obscure little evening (which some people seem to be rewriting history to imagine it was). It was so much fun to be there, and Bruce Kimmel was already a name in the industry - I have no idea why people (not here) act as if it were a nothing event. I was there (didn't know BK then, except from seeing him on TV of course).
it wasn't the opening of Gone with the Wind, but quite the fun experience and fans of the talent were very happy to be there and more than rewarded in fun for lining up and waiting.
-
Good morning.
-
Larry, there must be poisons that can only harm mice and not harm you.
Frank Wildhorn music? No wait, that's the reverse.
-
Laura, I love your new message at the bottom.
-
BK, what do you think of the novel, "The Great Gatsby"? And have you seen any of the other filmed versions?
-
And the word of the day is: OCCLUSION!
And The Song Of The Day Is: STOP! IN THE NAME OF LOVE
-
I saw The Great Gatsby when it was first released (shortly after reading the novel for the first time) it was a massive "event" film at the time. The photography and look of the film was superb. I thoroughly enjoyed it even though I didn't think it connected on an emotional level.
-
The Alan Ladd version of THE GREAT GATSBY is available on YouTube (in several parts). Here's the link to part one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2jh6XkjrHU
-
Just watched RAPPIN' AND RHYMIN'.
Very clever...and it even taught me how to count.
;)
-
Good Morning Everyone:
We had 2 beautiful days here in the Buffalo, NY area. Unfortunately, today it is cold again.
-
Hey BK,
I glad you got a good deal at Joseph Banks & Sons.
We have one near us. The prices are outrageous, but they do have some great deals. Glad you made out well.
-
Have a wedding friday. It is at the Hotel Lafayete in downtown Buffalo. It was recently renovated by a local developer. I went online and it look's gorgeous.
It is my friend's daughter's wedding. Should be a good time. I will try to take Pics and post on HHW.
-
I love beautiful older buildings.
-
Would love to visit Rome and Paris. I would visit the Sistine Chapel and all the beautiful Churches.
-
Hey Druxy,
I didn't know that Alan Ladd was in the Great Gabsy. I never saw it.
-
Goodbye for now.
-
Here in Wales, it's still raining.
-
It's raining in Wales.
I guess all the Welsh Rabbits are taking cover?
-
Larry, there must be poisons that can only harm mice and not harm you.
Wouldn't you think?!!?
;)
-
Hey Druxy,
I didn't know that Alan Ladd was in the Great Gabsy. I never saw it.
He starred in the 1940s version. Redford was in the 70s version. And now DiCaprio is in the 2013 version.

Let me pose a query to you guys:
There is a news story circulating about a teenager who wore a T-shirt to school. The T-shirt had artwork on the front: "NRA Protect Your Right". There was a rifle under the message and a big yellow blotch that may have been a target or a flesh wound.
The teacher asked the student to turn the shirt inside out since it violated school district policy for proper attire. He refused. A bunch of stuff ensued, students nearly rioted but obeyed when instructed to take their seats. The teen was taken to the prinicipal, the parents were called and the police arrived. The teen was arrested.
The internet is filled with outrage over this travesty of justice, of the boy's constitutional rights being trampled, of everything, it seems, other than what seems to me the obvious: This teen, in fact no students, have "Constitutional Rights" inside the schools. The schools have obligations, of course, but they have standards and must enforce and maintain those standards. Students may, of course, protest, but expulsion is generally the end result.
The "internet outrage" seems to believe students should be able to make any kind of political statement they want. My argument is that if students have "Constitutional Rights", then they have the right to "bear arms" in school. But...oh, wait! Everyone under 18 is a "minor" and Constitutional rights don't really apply to "wilfull conduct" by minors. Or do they?
It does seem that people in this country embrace the notion that anyone can do anything he or she likes, say anything he or she likes -- WHEREVER he or she wants to do or say it.
What is your reaction to this?
-
"The Great Gatsby" -- it is slow, but there are fascinating things about this film...at least, for me. Not the least of them is the wonderful score arranged by Nelson Riddle (who won an Oscar for it). I think he used old standards beautifully throughout this film. This was Sam Waterston's first major role, IIRC. I think many of the supporting actors are completely wonderful.
-
And, on a lighter and non-political note:

my friend Rebecca worked on the costumes for THE GREAT GATSBY in the Barbara Matera shop, and she was witness to a tantrum over a costume that Mia Farrow threw at the costume designer Theoni Aldredge. To reinforce her importance, Farrow finally said, "I'm the star of this film." And Theoni said, "Honey, in this film I'm the star."
-

I didn't know that Alan Ladd was in the Great Gabsy. I never saw it.
He starred in the 1940s version. Redford was in the 70s version. And now diCaprio is in the 2013 version.
And there was the weird TV mini-series with Mira Sorvino and Paul Rudd as Nick. Can't remember who was Gatsby in that one.
-
It's raining in Wales.
I guess all the Welsh Rabbits are taking cover?
My sister's rabbit doesn't look too happy.
-
DR Ron: I say, good for the school. I think schools need to encourage more thoughtful discussion of issues, from gun owners rights to gay rights, but I think the T-shirt slogan mentality needs to be checked at the door. I used to not see the logic behind dress codes, but I'm seeing it more and more.
-
Hey Druxy,
I didn't know that Alan Ladd was in the Great Gabsy. I never saw it.
It's been out of release for years; never on DVD or VHS.
I assume that the version on YouTube is a bootleg.

I've recommended to TCM that they air the Ladd version. I know that TCM owns a big chunk of the Paramount library, although I'm not certain which ones. The last time I recommended a film, it was the Ray Milland "The Uninvited" and they've aired that many times since then (it has a large following, I believe).
-
DR Ron,
IMO, if a school has a dress code, it should be made clear to students and faculty, and the students should follow it. However, the student should also be able to challenge it, but civily and at the appropriate time and place.
The school also must be sure that they are enforcing the dress code fairly, and not just because one teacher disagrees with the statement the student/shirt is making.
Frankly, I think it would be smarter to just have school uniforms or something similar such as wearing only tan pants/shorts/skirts and blue shirts.
Somehow, it all seems like an episode of ROOM 222 :D
-
Wednesday afternoon greetings! It's gloomy and rainy in SW Ohio today. Because of the gloom, I slept until almost 9am - very late for me.

We got some gloom here, too, and temperatures in the low 50s to go with it.
-
John G and MBarnum: I think we're all on the same page on this T-shirt issue, so far. The student here knew the shirt wasn't allowed, but chose to be confrontational about it. Now, the teacher is catching all the criticism for forcing the issue (by trying to enforce the rules).
-
We need to get to page 3.
-
It's absolutely crucial!
-
One more page ought to do it!
-
Ta and Da!
Page 3!

Thank you! Thank you!
-
Now that's a page 3 how-dee-do
-
I'm confused by "The teen was arrested" - the rest seems to make some logical sense in terms of wanting to have a rule that can be administered in some way. I must be missing something important..
-
I'm up - I slept late - guess I really needed to.
-
Very overcast outside - the question becomes to jog now or wait to see if it's better in the afternoon - I'm thinking the latter.
-
Ron, the kid is a jerk, the parents are jerks, and the school was right and most importantly the Internet is full of people who love to jump on any "cause" to show how "liberal" they are. You are most correct - you can't have it all ways. Either the kid has constitutional rights, which means he can say anything he damn well pleases because that is his right, or he must follow the school's rules because he is a CHILD.
-
I can't find the answer. Why was he arrested, as opposed to just suspended?
-

I agree with what others said. And I think the teacher was correct in asking the child to remove the shirt/turn it inside out. But why arrest the kid? I agree something like suspension makes more sense from the info we have.
-
Probably the kid was arrested for disturbing the peace.
-
I have no doubt that the kid wore the shirt in order to get in trouble. Stories have been all over the news about children who get suspended for talking about Hello Kitty bubble guns at the school bus stop and for drawing pictures of their dads in the service holding a rifle and for pointing at someone and saying BANG ... etc., etc. etc. He knew he would get in trouble.

It could be that, like with the Gershwin estate and PORGY AND BESS, the rights granted by the Fitzgerald estate re: the Alan Ladd GATSBY have expired, which would prevent the film from being shown legally.
I'm just guessing. I don't really know.

And then he goes back to school wearing the very same T-shirt, again!
If he really is planning a career in the military, as he states, he is gonna have to check that attitude at the door.

Thanks, George

"Nice Work If You Can Get It" is closing. I wonder at a loss of how much?
-
What a day this has been. Crazy, crazy day. I woke up to the most annoying e-mail possible and dealt with that for two solid hours - don't know what the outcome will be - has to do with the publisher and it's just nutty - I've escalated it all the way up the food chain to the highest management, but won't speak with them until morning at which time I'll know what's what. Completely irritating. One way or another it will all be fine, but they have now cost me several days in production time and they're going to have to make up for it.
-
Then Doug Haverty reminded me that today was the day we were meeting with the tech people about all the website changes. So, we drove to Granada Hills and had a great meeting and I gave the go-ahead to begin the transition to a much more up-to-date place. Shortly they will be updating everything, but you won't see that - they're cloning the site, doing a ghost version that only they, Doug, and I can see - and we'll make sure it is functioning exactly as we want in terms of this board and how I post my notes. We are so far behind in terms of software updates, it's like we're in another century. I told them I'd like to stay with both companies software-wise, just because that's what I'm used to, but if we find that the two alternative companies offer better things, we'll switch. If it's the latter, this board will probably look a little different, but all archives will be saved and there. I'd prefer not doing that, though - much easier if we stay where we are.
Apparently, the new software for the place I do my notes from, has tons of new stuff that wasn't available to me in this ancient version - I'll be able to bold, italicize and all that stuff - I'll be able to insert clickable links, videos, music - whatever I feel like and that will be totally great. So, we're on the way! We also talked about the radio show, and I think the way that will work is that you'll click on it and it will open a universal player (nothing to download) and you play it directly from the site itself. That sounds great to me.
-
I've been home for about two hours and I'm exhausted.
Bruce Pomahac and I had lunch at a really good burger place on West 26th Street, called RARE. We unfortunately had the most dreadful, fawning, oily, love-me-love-me waiter I have ever encountered. I told Brce I wanted to give him a valium and prop him in a corner. The lunch was quite good, and then he came back to my office and listened to DEAREST ENEMY. I was happy to hear his thoughts and answer his questions.
I need a nap.
-
So, how close to page 4 are we?
-
Not close enough, I guess.
-
Nope.
-
Dammit.
-
!!!! 4 !!!!
-
And about time.
-
My work is done.
-
About a month ago I bought a tall used bookcase to replace a short one in my Momcave. It's been sitting in the garage and today Richard and I moved it in and I've redistributed my books. The new (to me) piece has an enclosed cabinet on the bottom, so I was able to stash a lot of stuff that was sitting on the shelves in front of the books. I can see the books much better now and I'm very pleased.
-
And then I see four lonely pages of postings and wonder why exactly I'm upgrading anything.
-
Good evening!
-
I hope you're enjoying your cruise, TCB!
-
Happy Birthday to Barbra!
-
and Shirley MacLaine!

-
Good evening to all
-
I overslept and was late for work. Just before I work up I was dreaming I was at work so was quite shocked to see what time it was. I'm usually up by 7am and don't need an alarm clock.
I guess I will have to use one. Can't let this happened again.
-
ASK BK
I had Itunes on random play and "The Lights & The Smiles" came up.
Wondering what ever happened with the stage version of The First Nudie Musical? (Which also happened to be mentioned earlier today. I wasn't at the movie, but was at the stage version)

Wondering what ever happened with.... part II
The video release of the director's cut of The Creature Wasn't Nice aka Spaceship aka Naked Space?

First time I read that I thought it was the fawning waiter who went back to the office and listened to DEAREST ENEMY.

Don't lots of people read the notes? Isn;t traffic really good on that? People kepe telling me they've read what you said about such and such and this and that, who don;t post here.
-
Yes, lots and lots of notes traffic.
-
Shayne, I'm just waiting for someone to step up to the plate who has the guts to stage Nudie - there's nothing to be done until that happens.
No movement can happen on Creature until I find an element I can use for the transfer of the theatrical version.

Stranger things have happened. I remember reading a headline (not the actual article, though) about some woman who called in fake bomb threat on a flight because she was supposed to be on the flight but was running late and wouldn't get there in time. :o

they make it sound as if the boy did not make a disturbance and the shirt was a non issue until this teacher made an issue of it during lunch they also say that the shirt did not specifically violate the dress code which makes me wonder again why the kid was arrested - especially as the principal seemed sympathetic to the kid as well
-
Would love to hear some good news about a proper cut of Creature one of these days.

Five!

My CDs, including "A Time for Singing," have arrived!
-
Night off from Fiesta. But tap class was very involved and a lot of fun.
-
Starting to watch "Skyfall." Love the opening. Wish I could watch the whole movi tonight, but I doubt I'll be able to do that.

If the shirt truly did violate the dress code then I think the teacher had every right to tell the kid to reverse it - but I wonder about eh fact that he was already in 5th period lunch , so I assume he had already been in homeroom and 4 classes with at least 4 teachers and no one else was bothered enough to make an issue about this
While I strongly believe that rules are there to be obeyed I also have seen some teachers who are confrontational and over impressed with their own importance and authority. There was the idiot teacher in my high school who tried to make an boy from an orthodox Jewish family remove his yamulke because hats were not allowed in school - the boy refused, was sent to the principal and returned 15 minutes later with a note for the teacher and his yamulke in place
I was a member of the site committee for the Vixters primary school and I campaigned long and hard for a uniform - but I could not get the support-

Some teachers are also scared of kids wearing T-shirts with weapons on them.

Well, it's time for me to head home. Tonight is my last night of freedom before our last weekend of "Reservoir Dogs"! It'll be sad to see it all end...a great time was had by many!
-
I'll certainly be glad to get my evenings back. However, that'll only last for a couple of weeks. Starting in the middle of next month, I'm going to run sound for another show, "Cinder Edna," put on by Olympia Family Theater, who put on "The Wind in the Willows" a few months ago. :D
-
Until later!

I understand and if shirts depicting weapons was banned by the schools dress code ( and I personally think they should be) then the kid should have been so advised (and as soon as he arrived at school not half way through the day) but the news story says that no such ban exists - so I am conflicted -

Great news, BK!!
Will it be possible to archive the radio show?
That's the plan.

And, on a lighter and non-political note:

That is so photoshopped! Just look at those wheels closely!
Sorry if it's offensive to you. It was meant for fun.
Oh it wasn't offensive at all. It gave me a chuckle. Then I look at a lithe longer than I should have. Perhaps I shouldn't have made the comment. Sorry/

Really having fun with "Skyfall," largely because Javier Bardem is such a hoot.

Didn't Adele win for Best Costumes?

The song was a zero, but I guess it was better than the new song in "Les Miz."

Night, all.

I went to Gelson's and got some hand-carved turkey for my evening food - I'd only eaten six hundred calories at lunch (salmon) and I had to have another six hundred, which I'm sure the turkey provided - don't want to really eat under 1200 as it's not healthy for me. But then I felt so guilty about missing a jog today that I went out and did a three-mile jog.

No worries. Some folks are offended if a photoshopped photo is posted. I guess they feel someone is trying to fool them. I'm a movie fan and ALL movies are photoshopped to some extent...never bothers me unless someone tries to make me believe it's an actual event in the news.

I gotta tell you.

Cool! Do you plan on just archiving shows from when the new site starts up or might there be select shows from past years?
-
We'll do past shows, too.
