Deb, rush tickets can be a great way to see a show. The only issue is that you have to be at the box office early so you can buy the tickets when it opens. They usually sell out quickly. That's what my friend did for Bette Midler and is doing for Kinky Boots. He lives in Midtown and he's going to the theatre at 7:30 am to wait outside the box office, which will open at 10am. When it opens he (and a line of other people) will be asking for "Rush tickets" You can usually buy a limit of 2 tickets per person and it's usually cash or credit card (though some rush policies require cash only). Pippin's rush policy (I know you already saw the show) limits you to 1 ticket. The seats are usually in the last row of the balcony/mezzanine. In a small theatre like the Booth or the Music Box that's fine but in a larger theatre you might need your binoculars if you're in the last row.

Another caveat: not every show has rush tickets AND some shows only have Student Rush, which I think it wrong. I guess once you get out of school you don't have to worry about money and it's assumed you can pay the outrageous ticket prices.

Here is a list from Playbill for the current shows that have rush (or lottery or standing room) tickets available.

Rush Tickets for Broadway (http://www.playbill.com/celebritybuzz/article/82428-Broadway-Rush-Lottery-and-Standing-Room-Only-Policies)

So, that's rush. It's not great for you, living on LI unless you take the day off and come in to the city early and are willing to sit in front of the theatre until the box office opens. It might work for a matinee.

Maybe I should have resisted, but I just had to do one obvious parody lyric about the whole "Taking back the Tonys voters seats" thing - and that they kvteched that they had made plans with their friends  under that I'LL SEAT YOU LAST Times article that broke this story.

Bette considers a number to sing on the awards show. (The Drama Desk show, that is!) :)

Tune of FRIENDS (Bette Midler classic)

(verse)
And I’m on stage alone
Sometimes it’s tough to be me
But you, you’re never on your own
If you have free seats to see me

If you got the right friends
You get to see shows free
But you must get your friends
To not play wait-and-see

They had free seats but they’re gone
Nominators drove them away
When you said “hey, come on”
They said “we got to pay”

Sitting here by that P.C., bub
Reading of this new contretemps
Don’t care if a show’s hurt by Tony’s snub
You say “My friend got me a comp”

Oh just get the right friends
But don’t let things go wrong
Yes you must not let your friends
Procrastinate too long!
Friends (la, la, la, la, la, la)

May I re-open talk if anyone cares regarding that Alec Baldwin article  which is at

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/alec-baldwin/broadway-orphans_b_3229873.html?view=print

Alec wrote: "Ben Brantley, who I must state up front is no fan of mine (every John Simon must have his Amanda Plummer, I suppose), is not a good writer"

Is Alec really comparing himself to Amanda Plummer being dogged by john Simon?

Of course, Brantley loves him sometimes, so this is weird.

Amanda Plummer is in many respects a quirky underdog actress being picked on by John Simon almost always, what kind of odd comparison is this when Brantley praises Alec quite a bit over the years?

Fred, she chooses one person for both bits and I don't think they are plants. Some people were saying they were plants because everyone had slip on shoes but my friend who saw the show at a different time from me said the person at her show had tie shoes and Bette riffed while she waited for him to untie his shoes and take them off. They all seem to be men. It's a very funny bit and even if they are plants it's a fun moment. I think the embarrassment (not huge, just general oh, my god, kind of stuff) is genuine and adds to the enjoyment of the bit.

For those of you wondering about the shoes, it's all about walking on a pristine carpet. And, depending on the audience member, sitting (NOT) next to Miss Mengers on the couch.

Thanks, Ben!   (So the running time can change depending on the type of shoes work - slip-on or lace-up - for the person in the audience.  Don't plan your train home from penn Station or Grand Central too tightly, LOL!)

Good morning, all!

I received some rather upsetting news from a friend last night that made sleep difficult. I hope that the news isn't as bad as I fear it could be, but only time will tell.

Today, I head back to Riverdale to finish up the mix for DEAREST ENEMY. I think it's sounding rather good. We got through seventeen numbers yesterday, so we have the last two numbers in Act Two, the intermezzo, three numbers in the Epilogue, curtain calls, bows, and the cut song, "The Pipes of Pansy." Our conductor sent in his mixing notes only a couple of days ago - he's only had the first edit for two months! - so Judy has to take time to deal with his thoughts before we can deal with finishing up a number. I'm looking forward to the Act Two Finale today: we add sound effects of gunfire, breaking glass, and other noises.

When I got home, I had a note from the podiatrist saying the X-rays showed my foot was fine: so, why am I having problems walking on my left foot?

On the one hand, it's bad news that Mark sanford, a Republican got that House Seat in South Carolina.

On the (very limited for the country) bright side, views are picking up on my Mark Sanford CAROLINA IN THE MORNING parody video from a long time back.

If you must walk on a Daniel Day Lewis film, that one is very painful, even though it's a very fine film.

Really, i wish when there's pain to have a diagnosis that cann be treated even if it's a tough diagnosis - how horrible to have to search and search.  i do feel your pain and I've been there until they've found the right diagnostician who identifies the right diagnosis, and thus treatment.

Larry, sorry to hear about the upsetting news but I'm happy that you're happy with the progress on Dearest Enemy.

A version of a Daniel Day Lewis comment was fomenting in my brain but it's been mentioned so I will no longer go there.

Mr. TCB is no longer here so we won't find out if he's staying in Reykjavik until later, if at all.

Last night I had an unusual type of dream because it followed on from a dream I’d had the previous night. Two nights ago I had a dream in which I was working in the HR department (I’ve never worked in HR) of my previous employers. I was going through some documents and noticed the name of a certain young woman (someone I used to work with). The documents stated that she was handing in her notice to pursue a career as a stripper!

Following on from that, last night I had a dream in which the young woman was present and I mentioned my dream to her. However, she understandably wasn’t at all impressed to discover I had been dreaming about her becoming a stripper and I ended up wishing I hadn’t mentioned it!

What’s interesting is that I think it’s the first time I’ve ever had a dream in which my dream referenced a previous dream, which seems very Luis Bunuelian. I look forward to any psychological insights!

RE: DR DRUXY's comments on THE MENTALIST

I personally am not sick of Red John. Although it is sort of surprising that they've let it run on this long.

I think it wouldn't make sense for Patrick Jane to be Red John. Besides the fact that it would be out of character for him, Red John murdered Patrick's wife and child. I can't think of anything they could say/write that would make me believe that Jane could murder his own child.  Plus all these people like Lorelai know Red John's identity. So it wouldn't fit at all with they've written/shown so far.

Thanks Ben. I'm hoping it's just a sensitive stomach from the antibiotics, which we've finished now. But I don't know.  I got in with the same vet who saw her last week.  He's sort of a partner with my vet. They have different offices, but are really one entity or something.  Anyway, I really liked him last week, so I'm glad I could get in with him. His office is a lot closer to my house and work, so maybe I'll end up switching.   Not sure about that yet

When I got home, I had a note from the podiatrist saying the X-rays showed my foot was fine: so, why am I having problems walking on my left foot?

There are so many reasons that won't show up on an x-ray.  Where exactly does it hurt?  Did the podiatrist offer any suggestions as to cause & possible treatment to relieve the pain?

I recently had a dream that referenced another dream.  In my dream, or half wake state, I acknowledged the fact & then forgot about it.

LOL They are not going to make Patrick Red John.  Now he might kill RJ, or be killed by him in the final episode.

POSSIBLE SPOILER? ? ? ?

Personally Keith & I were hoping for the conclusion of the Red John saga this season, yet we found the last episode intriguing with a surprising twist.

I am afraid that the cobblestone and brick streets and sidewalks, here in Iceland, make it difficult to travel in my wheelchair. I thought of taking a cab, but we won´t go there.

Well, take the front desk clerk's offer of help with "anything" and make him drive you around.

Excellent idea :)

I stopped watching "The Mentalist"  because of the Red John go-nowhere obsessive-compulsive story arcs.  That and the main character's smart-assiness!

For the same reason, if "Bones" doesn't wrap up its obsession with the impossibly villainous Christopher Pelant character, I'll be calling it quits on that show, too.

Just back from the vet and waiting for the verdict.

I ended up transferring to the new vet.  20 blocks away instead of 10 miles.  He's associated with my other vet, so I didn't really leave her, just making his office my home office.

When I went home to get Callie she had made a big mess in the litter box, if you get my drift.   So she definitely isn't "full of it" as is her normal problem.   We are taking her off the lactulose for a couple days, giving her something different that will hopefully calm her stomach and get her eating again.  Once she's eating and keeping things down on both ends, we'll slowly go back to the lactulose or he may want to try some other things.  I told him I don't want to fix what isn't broken and he agrees. If she's not better by Friday, we'll probably do blood tests.  Definitely by Monday.   He just wants to slow down and make sure she isn't reacting to the meds etc.   I'm fine with that approach

I heard about the verdict on the way home.   If my 3:00 comes, I'll likely be in an appointment, but I'll get the replay.  When we walked in the door she went straight to the food dish.   I think that was more nerves than being hungry, she didn't eat much before heading out of the kitchen.

That she ate anything after a trip to the vet is a good sign.

Your vet's approach is a logical one & a break from the lactulose should help her stomach feel better.  How is her limp?

The limp has been gone for days.  The antibiotics worked on that. So it likely was an infection under the skin, which she would get if a claw pierced her skin.  The vet said if you don't get it in time it becomes an abscess,  I'm REALLY glad we got that in time.

Thanks everyone for the vibes. The doctor is perplexed at the moment.  He was really glad I had so much information about her intake and output  (so to speak).  He's pretty methodical and some of the things he talked about for the future with her normal problems are quite holistic.  I do know that I've had friends who said he waited too long to do more testing, but knowing this, I can always insist if I think he should keep it moving.

Triggered by the antibiotic.  I think you mentioned you aren't going anywhere for awhile which is good.  I know you will be watching her very carefully while you get her back into balance.  I don't know what drugs the doctor is thinking of instead of, or in combination with Lactulose.  It is a great drug, however.....sigh...Bogie eventually didn't want it anymore.  I like that this doctor might have other options for you which could including reducing the lactulose dosage.

I was out all morning in the desert with The Botonist (a new recurring character) so I didn't know anything until I got in the car and heard on the radio that a verdict had been reached and was going to be read within minutes. I tried to listen, but the radio time-killing chatter was too much for me. So I turned it off and turned it back on about a half hour later.

My opinion: I think the jury should only be charged with deciding guilt or innocence and the judge should decide the sentence. My concern is that the jurors would go through the rest of their lives feeling bad about handing down the death sentence. I also don't think the jurors should have to listen to the grisly stuff that is going to come next. They've been through enough.

Regarding the above comments on Bone and The Mentalist...are there any shows that you still watch, or stopped watching, that you feel have run their course?

I am starting to feel this way about MODERN FAMILY. It is a wonderful show, but this season just doesn't seem "right" somehow. Maybe it is because the kids in the cast are growing up, and they don't seem as funny as they once were? And some comedy just seems to be a bit forced.

While I have found MODERN FAMILY a bit uneven this year I'm nowhere near ready to give it up.  There are still some very funny episode.  Speaking of unevenness, same goes for MIKE AND MOLLY which had an excellent episode on this week.

I watch "Warehouse 13", but last season's finale was very Artie-centric, and the first episode this season tried to resolve it.  Artie is a good character, but he's not sufficiently interesting in large doses as he trends to be abrasive.

Then there is "Grimm".  I know it's harsh, but I'm really quite tired of Juliet, girlfriend of the Grimm.  And this season has worn me down with the will she-won't she remember him well enough to remember she loved him and wanted to marry him.   I really like most of the other supporting characters.  The writers didn't do Juliet any favors, though, and there seems to be very little, if any, chemistry between the actress and leading man David Giuntoli.

I've also cut way, way back on "Criminal Minds", watching only if there is nothing else to grab my interest.  My reason is this season's maddeningly graphic violence as they establish the crime the BAU is going to investigate.  I can stand most of the actors (I miss Page Brewster), but Kirsten Vangsness gets on my last nerve and the patter between her character and Shemar Moore (and his calling her "Baby Girl" all the Time) really invites my sneers.

Personally Keith & I were hoping for the conclusion of the Red John saga this season, yet we found the last episode intriguing with a surprising twist.

We gave up on BONES years ago.  I watched on and off on my own for awhile.  I know they had a baby but did they ever get married?

No, but they were flirting with it and it finally looked like it was going to happen.  And THEN...the character Pelant made one of his periodic appearances and told Booth that IF he married Temperance, both she and the baby would be killed.

Now...see why I hate the character so much?  He's been around far too long.  And every time they catch up to him, some sort of immunity keeps him out of harm's way.

I really (still) like MODERN FAMILY, but I'm getting a little tired of MIKE AND MOLLY...mainly because they're trying to have a baby and I just really don't care about that.  I've never wanted to be a parent (good for those who do) and have no interest in watching people kvetch about it all the time.

Just my 2¢.

We never watched "Grimm" and gave up on "Warehouse 13" a long time ago.  "Criminal Minds" was too dark for Keith which is usually my reason to give up a show he is enjoying.

I gave up on THE MENTALIST when the far-reaching talents of this moronic Red John became the Dr Moriarty of the series: he infiltrates the Bureau, he has followers and acolytes, assistants who kill for him, and the stupidity of it all bit my ass once too often.

DR Laura, don't you suspect that by now the jurors have seen 99% of the grisly stuff besides hearing  about it?

The analyst on the radio was saying there is grisly stuff they haven't heard and seen yet. I can't imagine it, but that's what he said.

No...with as little time as I had at home because of "Reservoir Dogs," I didn't have time to watch some things because my DVR was filling up.  I had to pick and choose what not to watch and that was an easy one to drop.  We'll see if I pick it up again later.

LOL!!!
GUILTY MUDER 1 !!!   I'm normally cheering for the defense, but she deserved this one

The range of sentencing possibilities is amazing, anywhere from 4 years to death.  Any idea what the jury will decide?

It's not 4 years to death anymore.  It's Death, life without parole or life with the possibility of parole after 25 years.  If the jury doesn't find the aggravating factor of cruelty, then it's life or life with the possibility of parole.  If they find it, then death is on the table.  The judge actually does the sentencing, I think, so the jury must just be a recommendation. Not sure about that

Out in 4 years for self defense.  I doubt that will happen.

Jane, the jury would have had to find her not guilty for that to happen.

I'm sure there is. Don't know exactly what that is.  The state has to prove cruelty for it to go to the death phase.  Their only witness is the medical examiner.  I don't think this will take long

I must have read a screwy article, or an old one even though it said 1st degree.  No wonder I was confused.  I thought it said the next trial would decide if it was premeditated, manslaughter or self defense even though she was found guilty of it.  I always thought self defense meant you got off.

Did a three-mile jog then immediately went for food and had a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich.  Then I came home and did some work on the computer, then the contractor came and walked the house and I got the more than irritating news that work won't actually start till a week from next Monday - I wrote the business manager and told him how frustrating that wait is because the front gate is literally disintegrating more each day and can barely be used.  Of course, I'm the one who lives here so I'm the one who has to deal with it.  The actual work won't take all that long - about ten days, but what could have been done by the time they start will now not be done until well after the first of June.  They're asking me to be very hands on during the work and I'm happy to do so, but not happy that there is yet this new delay before it begins.

It might work for a matinee.

thank you   I will have to look inti this   I would love to see Pippin again it was wonderful

I am so sorry   VIBES  (((Elmore)))

Went to the funeral home this evening, and it was a surprisingly healthy atmosphere with plenty of wonderful stories about Dolores from various eras of her life. There was even a photo of her at my house on one occasion when J.B. decided to check her out. He's sitting on her leg, and both have these startled looks on their faces.

It reminded of me a wonderful story she told of life back in the days when she shared an apartment with three other young girls. It was during WWII, and she was taking business classes. She had taught school for a year, but back then, women teachers could not be married and she didn't want to be an old maid, so she turned her attentions to shorthand. Anyway, whenever the phone at her apartment rang, she would answer it with the following: "Hello, this is heaven. Which of the angels would you like to speak with?"
