No popping, no crackling, no hissing...just blessed amplification...and I try to make sure that it doesn't blast too loudly. The only issue that happened was that one woman's microphone would just cut out and then come back on, but FORTUNATELY, no popping or crackling or hissing. ;D

David, the guy who set it all up before I got involved in the show, actually came to the theater at about 4:30 and had worked on some things before I got there at about 5:00 pm. After I got there, we tried some things and eventually figured out that the cable that goes from the actual microphone head to the transmitter was loose and that's what was crackling and popping. They had no extra cable, so David went to a local music store where the theater group originally bought the mics (and where he actually works) and bought a couple of spare mic cables. He switched out the bad one and it all worked perfectly (except for the other mic that just cut out and wasn't popping or crackling or hissing)! Thanks, David!!

Luckily, I only had to wait about 30 minutes to check in to my hotel. I took a nap and headed towards Leicester Square to the TKTS booth. I got a ticket for Relatively Speaking, by Alan Ayckborn (sp?). It was very amusing.

Just took the underground and the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) to a different hotel, which is near the O2, where Roslyn Kind is performing tonight. Along with her nephew. Oh, and her sister.

I found my Macbook and ended up spending the evening playing on it: I downloaded all of the updates that I'd missed since I put it away last September. Then I assembled all of my iTunes playlists I'd begun last year, decided I hated the sound on the computer, and deleted a lot of music. I really hate the new iTunes layout. A lot.

By then it was 11:30, so I went to bed.

And that led me to four years of high school Latin, four more years in college, along with Greek, and a Bachelors Degree in Classics. All because of Kirk Douglas in a Disney film I was crazy for.

I also like Douglas in Greedy, which is based on Charles Dickens' comic novel Martin Chuzzlewit.

It was mostly a test to see if I knew where things were. When I rent a car, I have to spend an hour or so with the manual checking out the locations of essentials like the windshield wipers, lights and CD player.

Just so you know, Photobucket (where we have an account) does NOT support audio uploads, just photo and video.

Photo formats for uploading are gif, jpg, jpeg, png, bmp (.bmp files are converted into .png files).

The following video types can be uploaded: 3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp, avi, divx, flv, gif, mov, mp4, mpeg4, mpg4, mpeg, mpg, m4v, wmv (all video files are converted to .mp4 format when you upload them). Video uploads are limited to 500 MB or less, and 10 minutes or less.

TuneScoop (http://www.tunescoop.com/) (click on TuneScoop to go to the site)

lets you host audio files. The site doesn't have much information, like file types accepted, file size limits and how long the file will be at the site but it seems to work.

I've put up a test file (my BBC segment from Sunday). It's a 39mb (megabyte) wav file. After you upload the file you get 3 different links. I just copied the direct link and put it here. Clicking on it should take you to the site. At the bottom of the screen it says "Click play to hear the preview of the song" (it's not in color, it's grey) and below that is a media player. Click the black carat and the file should play. I think you also have the option of downloading the segment as well.

The A/C at the Lafayette apparently doesn't handle heat waves well in that cavernous auditorium, and gave up the ghost yesterday -- so they're waiting on a couple of parts. But it was bearable. For the audience. The projection booth was a sauna for poor Peter, but he gave it his all, as always, and gave us a fine show. THE STRANGER was fantastic. It's been maybe ten years or more since I'd seen it. What a great movie.

The person on the copy team who blew up at me last October, for all of his "I know it all" attitude, really did a mediocre job proofreading, as well as checking lyrics and making sure the melodies were correctly entered. Missed a couple of days from work the week before last, went to the doctor, got meds for it and thought it was gone. Now it feels like a round 2 is trying to start. I've just been tired so I rested most of the day.

Been watching "Falling Skys" all day. I've seen it before but I know the new season is about to start and it has been awhile--just wanted to refresh some of the details.

We get Channel 50 NJ Public Television via over the air and they show Keeping Up Appearances and As Time Goes By and Chef. Even though they are now controlled by Channel 13 (as is Channel 21) they have their fundraisers at a different time. In fact, they just finished one so we were able to get our Britcom fix

Because she knows me. And I guess she was being nosy. She was saying how all the librarians were wondering who some of the people were. I thought it was odd. I know it said to like the post. But I had no idea that they would be making a list and checking it.

This year we felt like driving up to Hoover Dam to drive over the new bridge that was under construction for several years. Sadly, you can't see a thing from it. If there hadn't been a sign that said "No Stopping on Bridge" I wouldn't have known we were on it. It was such a fantastic sight from the top of the dam (the old way of crossing the river). Then we went to the first casino on the Nevada side -- as soon as there was a flat spot to build on. It was the worst buffet ever. We had a great time.

Well, the microphone issue seems to no longer be an issue! The audiences, however.... ::) Actually, the 1:00 audience was fine. The 4:30 audience was a bought house. A local school bought the house and we think that it actually was a bunch of home-schooled kids. During the first act, there was VERY little response from the audience, and the cast was doing quite well. The second act got better responses. Now, we just have tomorrow and then we're done until next weekend. That means I can do laundry tomorrow! :D

I hope not! Our library just bought 60, count 'em, 60 Nooks with unique content on each to circulate to our patrons. At least I don't have any personal stake in them.

2. Nook

Barnes & Noble Inc.’s (NYSE: BKS) e-reader was destined to struggle from the start. It was launched in October 2009, roughly two years after Amazon.com’s Kindle, which was, and has remained, the market leader. Both products were hit by competition from Apple’s iPad before the e-reader business even hit its stride. Adoption of tablets is forecast to grow 69.8% in 2013, while e-readers are expected to drop 27%.

The Nook was thrown a lifeline a year ago, when Microsoft invested $300 million in Barnes & Noble’s digital business, but to no avail. It has been downhill since. Sales at the company’s Nook segment, which includes both the e-reader and online books, declined by 26% between the third quarter of 2012 and the third quarter of 2013. The Nook’s disadvantage may have little to do with its hardware or software and more to do with size of its online audience. It competes against much larger e-commerce sites that have access to hundreds of millions of new readers. While Amazon has more than 130 million visitors a month according to Quantcast, Barnes & Noble has just over 6 million visitors.

Luke MacFarlane's playing movie star who did a Broadway show the previous year and now is on the Tony nominating committee. I'd read that Luke was going to be a recurring character next season as a potential new boyfriend for Tom (Christian Borle), but of course the show's been cancelled. :(

No, not at all. I appreciated your comment. She looks fantastic and is so excited about the trip. She does know there are many many people who have her in their thoughts and prayers. She has a deep belief in God and is thankful for everything people have done for her

She said Boo used to follow her around and watch her very closely whenever she got near Callie. I had no idea. She said there are a lot of things she didn't tell me. LOL.
