Well, you've read the notes, the notes were reality notes, and now it is time for you to post until the reality cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PROSAIC!
-
And the new Kritzerland release is:
Kritzerland is proud to present a world premiere limited edition soundtrack CD release – two great film scores on one great CD:
THE FAR HORIZONS
Music Composed and Conducted by Hans Salter
and
SECRET OF THE INCAS
Music Composed and Conducted by David Buttolph
Two movies from the Golden Age, both starring Charlton Heston, a double bill in the old style – well-made pictures designed solely to entertain.
The Far Horizons holds the distinction of being the only major motion picture made about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Based on a fictional novel by Delia Gould Emmons, the film combined fact and fiction in its depiction of the two-year expedition. Heston played Lt. William Clark; co-starring as Captain Meriwether Lewis was Fred MacMurray. The director was Rudolph Mate, and the film was shot in gorgeous Technicolor and Paramount’s then-new widescreen process, VistaVision, by Daniel Fapp. And it has a terrific score by Hans J. Salter.
For a composer whose name is rarely included among the top composers for film, Hans J. Salter scored an amazing number of beloved horror and sci-fi films, including Man Made Monster, The Black Cat, The Wolf Man, Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, Son of Dracula, House of Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon, This Island Earth, The Mole People and The Incredible Shrinking Man, but he was equally at home in every genre and wrote great scores for such diverse films as Hold That Ghost, Fritz Lang’s Scarlet Street, The Strange Affair of Uncle Harry, Magnificent Doll, The Reckless Moment, Against All Flags, The Black Shield of Falworth, Autumn Leaves, Hold Back the Night, Come September, If a Man Answers, and Bedtime Story, to name but a few from his extraordinarily prolific career. And he also scored a number of western and adventure films, including Bend of the River, The Far Country, Man Without a Star, Wichita and many others.
His score for The Far Horizons is a majestic beauty, with a wonderful main theme that gets plenty of variations, along with some great dramatic scoring. For this CD, we present all the surviving cues, which thankfully constitute most of the score. It’s movie music in the grand tradition – full-bodied, emotional, and filled with melody. The score is presented in mono.
Here’s the plot for Secret of the Incas: A legend says that the Inca Empire was destroyed by the gods when a starburst of gold and jewels was stolen from the Temple of the Sun many centuries ago. The legend continues that the empire will be reborn once the treasure is returned. Now, an adventurer is seeking the treasure, as is his nemesis. The adventurer wears a brown leather jacket, a fedora, tan pants, and an over-the-shoulder bag and revolver. Sound familiar? Can we say Indiana Jones? But this was 1954, and the adventurer was Harry Steele, played by Charlton Heston. Secret of the Incas was definitely an inspiration for the Indiana Jones series. It was and is a fun picture. Shot on location in Peru at Cuzco and Machu Picchu (the first major Hollywood film to shoot at those locations), with a great cast that, in addition to Heston, included Thomas Mitchell, Robert Young, Nicole Mauray, and the then very popular exotic singer, Yma Sumac. Helping to make it so much fun is the film’s musical score by David Buttolph.
Like Hans J. Salter, David Buttolph is a bit of an unsung film composer. Buttolph, over the course of his extremely prolific career, scored hundreds of films, including some pretty great movies such as This Gun for Hire, The House on 92nd Street, Somewhere in the Night, 13 Rue Madeleine, The Brasher Doubloon, Kiss of Death, The Enforcer, House of Wax, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, Phantom of the Rue Morgue, Long John Silver, The Lone Ranger, The Horse Soldiers, and PT 109. He also moved into television scoring, working on such series as Laramie, Wagon Train and The Virginian.
Buttolph’s score for Secret of the Incas is exotic and adventure-filled like the film. Because of Yma Sumac’s involvement, it was decided to use a piece of music that was from one of her albums, specifically “High Andes” by Moises Vivanco, which Buttolph uses sparingly. Otherwise, Buttolph has memorable themes of his own, underscoring all the adventure, romance and thrills. For this CD we present all the surviving film cues in glorious stereo sound.
THE FAR HORIZONS/SECRET OF THE INCAS is limited to 1000 copies only. The price is $19.98, plus shipping.
CD will ship the first week of August, but preorders placed at Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks early (we’ve been averaging four weeks). To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

First to post after BK!
-
I don't think the notes had changed.
-
Notes will be up at the usual time - just after midnight CA time - that's the beauty part about being able to write and schedule.
-
Hoo & Ray!
The first post after BK, after John, after BK!

First post after TCB, after BK, after John, After BK
-
Good very late evening.
-
This would actually be my last post of the previous thread, but that one is now locked.
My goodness, there was much to ketchup on today. Enjoyed all of the pictures of family and friends.
-
VIBES of comfort to DR Elmore. Thank you for posting the story of your friend.
I know from experience that shock and sadness and regrets are not mitigated simply by hearing the news a little late.
-
Watched EARTHQUAKE this evening with a couple of friends, one of whom had never seen it. A rollicking good time was had by all.
-
Strange, once again, to be posting on the new day without having read the notes. Well, it's a morning ritual anyway, so see y'all then.
-
Good morning from Tegel airport in Berlin! My flight leaves in 95 minutes but people are already checking in at the departure lounge. I believe that once you're in there you can't leave so I'm waiting a few minutes.

I hope you were all drinking. I can't imagine any other way to watch that film; and I love disaster films.
-
I got an email stating that my flight from Newark to DC has been cancelled, so I'll be arriving in DC about two hours later than originally scheduled. Oh, well.

Kevin, will you still be going to Israel?
-
Hi, TCB! No, I decided not to go to Israel. It would have been crazy---not that I haven't already done crazy things!
-
Condolences to DR Elmore.
-
I loved seeing all the pictures and reading all of the memories
today. yesterday. It is very strange discussing today's posts as yesterday's news.
-
Condolences to DR Elmore.
Ditto.
-
Does Barbra greet you by name at the start of every concert?
-
It will be nice having you back on a regular basis, Kevin. Even your own sister is calling you DR Kevin.
-
Well, my work here yesterday is done.
G'night!
-
Does Barbra greet you by name at the start of every concert?
Not quite, TCB, though she did kind of talk to me and my friends at the concert since we were upgraded to front row center! She did say say my friend Robin's name since she had met her last week.

Time for me to go! Later!

DR Laura i thought you might like to see this
I had to give a "Temple Talk" yesterday as head of the Social Ministry Committee
We have had a plethora of these in the past few weeks and it mostly consists of people reading (mumbling) while staring at the piece of paper in their hands while the congregation falls into a coma , so I asked Pastor (he is young energetic and all about shaking things up) about doing something a little different ...so instead of Pastor announcing a temple talk and introducing me we did this.....
PJ ( after opening hymn and prayer , Pastor about to start blessing of the graduating seniors ):
We’d like to ask our graduates to stand
VM – running up aisle with shopping bags : Oh sorry… I’m late
PJ: OK, well glad you made it .. finally
VM Yeah I was shopping and I lost track of time there were all these great bargains
PJ Wait, you were late to church because you were SHOPPING?
VM : Yeah! There’s this store called DEALS it’s right on Commack Road and they have all these fantastic bargains
PJ – Ok … good that’s nice I guess, if you want to take your seat…
VM ( Starts pulling stuff out of shopping bag)
I mean look at this 12 washcloths for only $5 – (hands washcloths to PJ)
And three tooth brushes with cases for only $1! (hands to PJ)
These great adjustable baseball caps a buck (places on PJ’s head)
and 3 full size bars of soaps for only $1! (hands to PJ)
And look at this big tooth paste - a buck! (Hands to PJ)
and this bags of socks 6 pairs for $3!! (hands to PJ)
A these bags of lifesavers ! (Hands to PJ)
And look a dozen combs just a buck!! (Hands to PJ)
A six boxes of raisins just $1.50 (Hands to PJ)
and this box of bags – (Hands to PJ)
PJ Ooooooooooooh Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaay really happy for you… what’s this have to do with church ?
VM Look what I can do with this! (pulls complete wash kits bag from shopping bag)
PJ …So?….
VM We are planning another mission trip to New York – hot and sticky weather is starting and people living in the streets have no access to pools, beaches or even regular showers – and they often cannot afford to pick up simple supplies like these… There is box out in the narthex for donations – we will be collecting for the next few weeks – if any one would like to help or be part of the mission trip please see me during coffee hour!
-
When I ran up the aisle there were stares and embarrassed coughs and shocked look and then i started piling stuff in top of Pastor's op[en prayer book and stuck a baseball cap on his head and people starting catching on and laughing and boy did everyone pay attention..
:)
We didn't let anyone know what we were doing except the associate Pastor and the Vixter (who I warned because I knew she would die of mortification if not pre-warned)
-
Mike I was happy to hear your Dad was able to be home for Fathers Day
-
OK I had better get rolling or I will be late
-
Have a great day everyone
-
the Vixter (who I warned because I knew she would die of mortification if not pre-warned)
;D
-
I'm only about 33% of the way through the Doug Haverty interview. It's quite interesting.

Good morning everyone.
Good week ahead.

Im up, barely. I fell asleep at midnight, someone sent a text at one, which woke me up, then it took two hours to fall back asleep.

Good morning, all!
I may go to Toyland, and I may stay home, but I do have to contact my pharmacy for this month's meds as soon as I post this. Beyond that, I am not happy these days. God knows what will become of us at Toyland; I thought I was taking my team into a project that we'd be on for a while, but I believe it will die after ROBERTA, we will all look for other work and go separate ways. As a continually aging coot, I have no idea what options I have for work, so I'm pondering my future and wishing it didn't look asbleask as it does to me at the moment.
And that's my day.
Thanks for the sympathy over the news about John Parker; last night I dreamed about a production of YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN from1976, and I'm sure a lot of th was stirred up by the thinking about the 1970s.
And more coffee.
-
Monday morning greetings! I have a lot to do today and no motivation to do any of it...

CD is announced

DR Vixmom - I love your approach to your Temple Talk assignment. Wouldn't fly in Fr. Richard's church, but I could absolutely see it done in the church I attended yesterday.
-
TOD:
I enjoy cop shows and, thanks to my wife, the house hunting shows.
Also, probably because I worked part-time in them during high school and college, I like the pawn shop programs.
-
Good morning, all.
I might be one of the few who had a quite decent sleep. Well, it's a free day up until rehearsal tonight, I didn't seem to be Oying about anything, and the cats weren't ravenously hungry - so it just kind of worked out.
Coffee. Banana. English muffin.
-
I didn't stand up when I sang the song. Will I be forced to sit in the corner, Slumdog?
-
TOD: Have filmed several reality shows, I know that reality is word used very loosely with regards to what is happening. In fact, it's more scripted than a couple of the dramatic shows I worked on.

I loved that doghouse.
-
Just read the notes and it's nice to see BK's version of reality mirrors mine, or mine mirrors his.
-
They have to be scripted to the hilt. Formula, formula, formula. It took me a long time to recognize and accept that. Having done so, I can still stand to watch a few favorites on occasion. Yes, the pawn shop variety is always enjoyable, for the STUFF if nothing else. And the house hunting ones - again, for the places themselves, not for the silly people and their silly dramas.
-
...I loved that doghouse.
So did I! Here are Snoopy and Lucy atop the doghouse: "It was a dark and stormy night..."

TOD - I don't watch much reality TV, for the reasons BK discusses in the notes. The "people in peril" ones really get me, because you know there has to be a production crew along. With people and equipment, how much danger are they really in? I also don't like the talent shows, because they imply that the road to stardom is quick and easy.
Rob and I watched the first season of "Beauty and the Geek," because he said it was the story of his life at the time. Right now I'm involved in the "Great American Baking Competition."
-
CD ordered.
I want to see both of those films.
-
TOD: When I want a little brain-dead TV to relax to...I usually go to HGTV or The Food Network. I also like Pawn Stars and American Pickers, largely because between any faux drama...the historical items and finds are often interesting...but the best of those is still ANTIQUES ROADSHOW. The show I HATE the most is HGTV's LOVE OR LIST IT. The drama on that show is so obviously manufactured. Each week this designer is tearing down something and makes some horrible discovery...usually plumbing or electric...that's going to blow her budget, when you know with a little foresight and serious investigation, she could find out about most of these problems before she ever starts work. I'd never hire her as a designer if that's the way she worked. Also I think a designer should listen to her clients instead of insisting on doing what she wants to do. But the whole show is just one big phony conflict.
-
My favorite type of reality shows are competitive like The Amazing Race, Survivor, or Top Chef. Really enjoy those.
It sounds like the shows mentioned in the notes were The Good Wife (with Christine Baranski) and The Mentalist (if you were watching CBS). I happen to love both of those shows.
-

My problem with reality TV is that it is all now competitive...we no longer get shows where someone just designs something or someone just cooks something or someone just flips a house. Everything has to be turned into a cut-throat gladitorial combat...or as, BK says, they have to ramp a sow up with faux conflict. That just gets wearying to me. And if I want dramatic conflict, I'd prefer to watch drama. That's why THIS OLD HOUSE and ANTIQUES ROADSHOW are still so calming and pleasing to me.
-
good morning to you to Singsong
Yes, Dingdong, good morning to you!

Great new interview, Mr. BK, sir. Made for a fine read this morning.
-
DR VIXMOM - the Missouri Synod wants to talk to you.
-
CD ordered....of the two movies, I enjoy Secret of the Incas the most...... HA! I guesses Buttolph for the clip, but he IS on the CD.....so I was half right, without even hearing any of the music.
-
My audition was okay. I did my 16 measures of "As We Stumble Along" and read for both Underling and The Man in the Chair..... There were a lot of good people there yesterday, so we shall see what happens tonight. I will be in rehearsal for ANGEL STREET, but I may walk over and see how it is going.
-
I enjoyed the INTERVIEW very much. That is why I am so late getting here today, I was reading it. Very interesting....
-
TOD:
Favorites:
The Amazing Race
Hell's Kitchen
I like TAR because of the places they go and they usually have a good mix of contestants.
I like Hell's Kitchen because Gordon Ramsey is amusing....do ALL chefs smoke?

Catching up belatedly for Father's Day!
My father's 90th birthday would have been June 11, 2013. He passed on August 2, 2001.
This photo is of him in his Texaco station in Johnston SC back in 1952 or 53:

I have been to the pharmacy and the meds are in hand. I've begun Death Comes To Pemberley, P.D. James' murder mystery sequel to Pride and Prejudice, which will be a three-part BBC miniseries. She doesn't catch Austen's voice, although she's trying a lot harder than some of the current illiterate attempts from other wannabes, and today I caught a big errorabout a series of events in the original novel that was really unfortunate.

I think this story of the 5-year-old girl who set up a lemonade stand across the street from the Westboro Baptist Church is great!

Good Morning All,
I hope my brother gets home safe.

Condolences to Elmore.

TOD:
HGTV
QVC
-
TOD:
HGTV because I get lots of ideas for my home.
I love to decorate!
-
TOD:
QVC because I love to shop.
The problem is I am usually disappointed with my purchase and back it goes.
Unfortunately, I then have to pay the shipping and handling.
-
Last night I watched To Kill A Mockingbird.
I have watched it several times. What a great movie. Everytime I watch it i get more out of it.
Right now it is my favorite movie of all time.
-
DR VIXMOM - the Missouri Synod wants to talk to you.
We do?
-
Learned this morning that my aunt and uncle from Tennessee are being placed in a home in North Carolina, near their daughter. It seems likely that Aunt Bettye will never be able to walk again (don't really know the problem, but she has lived 75 years or so with juvenile diabetes), while Uncle Jimmy (my dad's brother) is exhibiting signs of early dementia. Sad.
-
Bought an iPad Mini today to replace the lost Kindle Fire which I left on the aircraft to Prague.

And the word of the day is: PROSAIC!
And The Song Of The Day Is: LAZY AFTERNOON

They have to be scripted to the hilt. Formula, formula, formula. It took me a long time to recognize and accept that. Having done so, I can still stand to watch a few favorites on occasion. Yes, the pawn shop variety is always enjoyable, for the STUFF if nothing else. And the house hunting ones - again, for the places themselves, not for the silly people and their silly dramas.
My favorite show has become my most hated show, as well: "Love It or List It". The formula is simple: A couple has a house that doesn't work for them any longer. One partner wants a new place and the other thinks that with the right reno, the current place will work fine. Enter Hillary and David. Hillary is the designer who, with her team of construction experts, will help realize the dream that is required to become realty for the couple to "stay". David, the real estate guy, shows the couple homes based upon their needs until he finds one that speaks to "both". Then, there is the reveal at the current home and the couple must determine whether they will "love it" or "list it".
Sadly the formula is repeated episode after episode: An unrealistic list of wants for renovation with a budget ranging from $40,000 to $80,000. David is given a budget of between $400,000 and $1,200,000 for a new house.
What is ALWAYS the case is that the renovation turns up something devastating that cannot be ignored or covered up and which eats up a major chunk of the budget. When that happens, something off the dream list must get scratched. The couple is always upset that they can't get that second bathroom on the second floor because they have a foundation flaw that MUST be corrected now that it has been discovered. They are bitter and trash Hillary for "promising" them something she can no longer give them. More money from them is out of the question since she "mismanaged" the money they had already given her (by saving their home from some calamity further down the road).
David, on the other hand, must show house after house that satisfies neither of the couple because it's not in the same neighborhood or the yard is too small or the view isn't good enough or...etc., etc. Ultimately, and EACH and EVERY show, David finds "the perfect house" the couple falls in love with and which may be the new home unless Hillary has pulled off a miracle (despite their previous hysteria over budget-busting problems that were addressed/corrected at the expense of items on their dream list).
One never knows which way they'll go. Hillary gets the nod many times after the couple have been horrible toward her. David wins his fair share, too, even when Hillary has done her usual great job (and it's usually because they want bigger rooms/more space).
It's the irrational attitude of the homeowners that irritate the crap out of me when Hillary discovers a new roof is needed or a foundation needs to be repaired or, heaven forfend, the house requires all new electrical work of pluming. The show is bound to correct these heinous problems once they're uncovered, but the homeowners blame her anyway when their paltry budgets cannot give them everything on their lists despite the extra work that has to be done.
After watching a few shows, it became crystal clear that the circumstances had been dictated and that the irrational behavior was usually hammy overacting on the part of one or both homeowners to add drama where none is really needed.
-
I stopped watching House Hunters because people would look at nice homes and say things like:
Those appliances need to be updated, there are not enough closets, the yard is too small:
And we had already seen them cooking on a hotplate, clothes in a cardboard box, and NO yard at all.
-
I like that CHARLIE BROWN show picture!
DR JOHN G - time marches on....sadly for all of us.
-
Two demands that never fail to make me want to throw things at the TV: granite countertops and "open" floor plans.

Hi, TCB! No, I decided not to go to Israel. It would have been crazy---not that I haven't already done crazy things!
Crazy for sure-lol
SAFE AND EASY TRAVELS HOME!

Not quite, TCB, though she did kind of talk to me and my friends at the concert since we were upgraded to front row center! She did say say my friend Robin's name since she had met her last week.

Hallmark had a "Murder, She Wrote" marathon over the weekend. The first two seasons were aired in episode order.
What stunned me was the series opener -- a two-parter entitled "The Murder of Sherlock Holmes' (IIRC). That wonderfully jaunty theme for the show was written by Oscar-winner (for "Tom Jones") John Addison. I hadn't realized that Addison scored the entire two-parter and won an Emmy for it.
It's delightful, and it's easy to hear the difference between his use of the theme throughout the two-part opener and the subsequent referential use of the theme by other composers in subsequent episodes.
It's a score, that opener, that ought to be on CD!

Two demands that never fail to make me want to throw things at the TV: granite countertops and "open" floor plans.
LOL. On "Love It or List It", David always seems to think he's scored a winner when he shows a house with "a powder room" on the main floor. He always says "a powder room" with hushed tones....almost like he's enthusing over having "baby-backed ribs" for dinner.
-
Nice pic of your father DR Ron.
-
I'm not sure if I'll be back until after our company leaves. I'll try to stop in before they arrive, if I have done all I need to do first.
-
Oh, I don't watch any "reality" shows.
-
I have to say that during the readings from the script of The Drowsy Chaperone yesterday, there were many BIG laughs.... That is a funny script!!! Not sure everyone got it exactly, but the director gets it, so should be able to get all the humor onto the stage.

Front row center? I hate you. How did that happen?

Listening to Judy Kuhn's new album. Fun stuff on it, but a heartbreaking version of "In Buddy's Eyes." She's fragile enough to make a great Sally in "Follies." Too bad nobody has any idea who she is.

Ron, but as I mentioned in my post about LOVE IT OR LISTED also being my most hated show. Hillary, if she is doing her job properly could usually discover and uncover most of those unexpected problems before she started with a reasonable inspection. The couples budget is unrealistic but also what she promises she can do without serious investigation is also unrealistic. No designer would do what she does. But then that's why it's not really a reality show. All those crises, all the home-owner snit fits, all the undiscovered calamities are all false and manufactured. It's worse than formulaic dramas. But you expertly described everything that his utter bullshit about the show and why I stopped watching. You can almost set your watch when the various upsets and disagreements will happen. I don't know why any designer would want to be on that show...It makes them look like the most incompetent designer ever. "I didn't do my simple homework before I started and gave you an estimate."
It's like House Hunters where a couple is decides on getting a new home after just looking at three houses. Who are we kidding. If I don't find what I want...I keep looking.
-
Yeah, the three-house limit. The greatest fallacy from the get go.
-
I'm only about 33% of the way through the Doug Haverty interview. It's quite interesting.
I copied the interview, pasted it into a Word document, formatted it so that it would look good on my Kindle, then saved it as a .pdf and added it to my Kindle. It'll be what I read when I go to lunch today!
FYI...with the way I formatted it, it's 60 pages long!

I like a show called TRADING SPACES for a long time.....but then a couple of their designers including Hildy Santo-Tomas and some other Southern woman whose name I can't remember - maybe Genevieve - kept doing such awful things to people's homes, I had to stop watching.
Toward the end of my viewership, some homeowners were aghast to find out that their property had been handed over to Hildy....
-
Off to change the sign at the road to read ANGEL STREET....and have a full show run through.....first time seeing the whole thing! I will try not to talk until the end.

I think this story of the 5-year-old girl who set up a lemonade stand across the street from the Westboro Baptist Church is great!

VM We are planning another mission trip to New York hot and sticky weather is starting and people living in the streets have no access to pools, beaches or even regular showers and they often cannot afford to pick up simple supplies like these
There is box out in the narthex for donations we will be collecting for the next few weeks if any one would like to help or be part of the mission trip please see me during coffee hour!
That's funny, Vixmom! And I'm sure will be very effective! :D

Sad.

Back from our work session. We went to breakfast first, where I had a two-egg omelet with ham and cheese, which this restaurant had the temerity to say contained 530 calories. Sorry restaurant, which is organic and healthy - one ounce of ham (all there was, folks) and less than an ounce of cheese (really all there was, folks), no bread, no potatoes - does not compute. Two eggs = 140 calories. One ounce of ham bits = 60 calories. One ounce of cheese, about 100 calories tops. Somehow this does not add up to 530 calories on my calculator.
-
Then we played through all the songs for Sandy's new album - I must say, wonderful choices throughout, not a dud in the bunch. We set keys and did most of the arrangement work when I was here last time, but I made some further adjustments in about six of the songs, including the one I wrote - so, we should all be set now and we'll record mid-July in LA with a very large band of about thirty-two players - no second passes on this album, which will be great.
-
Then we played through the stuff for her Ira Gershwin cabaret she booked in August. I have to assemble this very quickly and we'll stage it in July when she's here. This time I told her she had to give me four full days to get it on its feet and get her at performance level, then I'll probably come back for the show in August.
-
We'll eat dinner around five-thirty, then I'll relax till about eight-thirty, then try to do the treadmill, although I am VERY sore.

~ ~ ~ SAFE TRAVEL VIBES ~ ~ ~ for DR Kevin H!
DR John G. - so sorry about your relatives. May they adapt to their new surroundings, and may better days be ahead for them.
DR Jrand62 - your Schroeder looks pretty buff for a kid who does nothing but play piano all day! ;)
Am loving the witty DR accounts of the baffling incongruities encountered in these "reality" shows!

If I had done each of those as separate posts, we'd now be so much closer to page 6. :P

Thank you, all, for your thoughts and prayers. Much appreciated. And I'm hopeful that this is the case. They will now be near their daughter, son-in-law and grandson, so they will be able to spend more time watching the baby grow. And that may be a blessing in all this.
It wasn't easy telling my dad today about all this. But he took the news well.

I know it's not Ask BK Day, but here goes: How was "Company"?

I don't think bk sees Company until Tuesday night.
So it will be wholly appropriate to ask him on Wednesday. :)

:o WTF?? I hope that those actors are NEVER cast again...AND they should be billed for the lost ticket revenue and the rental of the space! I've certainly performed in shows where the audience is smaller than the cast, but the show must go on!
I know directors who won't ever cast people if (in a previous situation) they said that they'd take any role (meaning chorus) and then when they were offered said chorus role, they turned it down. This is so much worse! I'm fortunate to have never worked with actors who would even think of actually trying to get away with something like this.
-
When I performed in Side Show a few years ago, I had to sign a contract (the only time I did) where it was specified that if I missed a performance for any reason other than practically being at death's door, I would be charged the amount of a full house for the lost performance...even if the house wasn't sold out.

It is beautiful outside right now, however rain is expected the next two days :( I have a nice hike planned for tomorrow, hope we can do it before the rain.

Back from a very good meal at a place called Clyde's, which is quite popular with the populace. I had Wild Alaska Salmon, pan-seared and served over quinoa and asparagus in a balsamic reduction - I have no idea what any of that means, but it was really good, and really low in calories. I will attempt to do the treadmill in about an hour, although I'm also tempted to just go jog on the street.
-
Several spam registrations got through today, all from the same place so thank you butt cheeks and I just took captcha to the next level of security. There are still three levels above and if these ASSES get around this one, then I'll just go to the highest - with that I really don't think many, if any, will get through.

Raccoon update. I don't want to jinx things or be guessing too soon, but I think she's gone. Yup. Quiet all day yesterday, quiet all last night and quiet today. Tomorrow morning the carpenter and trapper are both coming bright and early so we'll figure it out and if she's not there, close it up, at least temporarily until it can be fixed properly

I wish i could find photos of our Charlie Brown production in summer of 1973.

Ok, I enjoy watching a lot of reality shows. I realize they aren't real, but I find them entertaining, so that's why I watch. I do like Next Food Network Star - so glad last night's loser is gone. I also like Design Star, HGTV's similar competition. I like watching the goofy things people come up with on both shows. If I have to have a guilty pleasure it's Celebrity Apprentice. It cracks me up, scripted or not. I get the impression all these shows are scripted but also have a lot of unscripted stuff that is highly edited. No matter to me.
-
I also really like House Hunters. I think it's pretty clear from some of the episodes that the couple has looked at lots of houses, these are just the three for the show. I also know that some of them have already picked the house and it's all a farce, but I still like looking at the houses and the landscaping and trying to guess which one they will pick. I liked Love It or List It when it first came on, but I really hate it for the same reasons as others.
-
I hate the Bachelor stuff and most of the vote someone off the island stuff
I like Dancing with the Stars, but I'm getting tired of it. I couldn't believe anyone actually agreed to do Splash - the diving competition. Talk about a bizarre show, I would turn it on and sometimes couldn't look away but it hurt to watch
-
I liked The Amazing Race for a number of years, but have tired of it too. I hate things like Wipe Out and other obstacle course things. I keep waiting for someone to break a neck and die, of course that wouldn't air or would have been over covered by the media before hand, but I still cringe when I see that as the channel turns.

Today is my brother Randy's 56th birthday, and I just spoke to him. Amazon.com had dated the arrival of his birthday package tomorrow, but it arrived today. I was very happy.
MAJOR CRIMES is on tonight so I'm going to settle in, watch that, read a bit of my mystery and go to bed.
DR cillaliz, great raccoon news!

I don't watch Idol or the Voice and don't have any interest. I sometimes enjoy America's Got Talent, but haven't watched that in a while either.
-
Thanks Elmore. I'm not positive yet, but I think we'll know in the morning. You can do a flap where they can get out but not back in. I'm hoping the carpenter can do that for a while just in case

Happy Birthday Randy!

Thanks!

You know I love "Antiques Roadshow"! :D I also love "America's Got Talent," but I don't consider that a "reality" show...it's a talent contest. My favorite was "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List." It was highly edited (and that wasn't a secret) and I don't think that Kathy ever pretended that it was anything other than a "reality"-based comedy show. I loved it!
-
I guess I was just thinking if non-drama or sit-com stuff as reality, I'm sure that's a overbroad

I had absolutely no interest in working today, so I didn't get much done.

Back from 2.8 miles on the treadmill - really hard - but burned 380 calories, or basically my breakfast - so I'm in good shape for the day, calorie-wise. Here's me sweating and heaving after the treadmill.
