DR Laura i thought you might like to see this
I had to give a "Temple Talk" yesterday as head of the Social Ministry Committee

We have had a plethora of these in the past few weeks and it mostly consists of people reading  (mumbling) while staring at the piece of paper in their hands  while the congregation falls into a coma , so I asked Pastor  (he is young energetic and all about shaking things up) about doing something a little different ...so instead of Pastor announcing  a temple talk and introducing me we did this.....

PJ ( after  opening hymn and prayer , Pastor about to start blessing of the graduating seniors ):

We’d like to ask our graduates to stand

VM – running  up aisle with shopping bags : Oh sorry… I’m late

PJ:  OK,  well glad you made it .. finally

VM  Yeah I was shopping and I  lost track of time  there were all these great bargains

PJ  Wait, you were late to church because you were SHOPPING?

VM : Yeah!  There’s this  store called DEALS  it’s right on Commack Road  and they have all these fantastic bargains

PJ – Ok  … good  that’s nice I guess,  if you want to take your seat…

VM  ( Starts pulling  stuff out of shopping bag)
I mean look at this  12 washcloths  for only $5 – (hands  washcloths to PJ)
And three tooth brushes with cases for only $1! (hands to PJ)
These great adjustable baseball caps a buck (places on PJ’s head)
and  3 full size bars of soaps for only $1! (hands to PJ)
And look at this big tooth paste  - a buck!  (Hands to PJ)
and  this bags of  socks  6 pairs for $3!! (hands to PJ)
A these bags of  lifesavers ! (Hands to PJ)
And look a dozen combs just a buck!! (Hands to PJ)
A six  boxes of raisins just $1.50 (Hands to PJ)
and this box of   bags – (Hands to PJ)

PJ Ooooooooooooh Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaay   really happy for you… what’s this have to do with church ?

VM  Look what I can do with this!  (pulls  complete wash kits bag from shopping bag)

PJ  …So?….

VM We are planning another mission trip to New York – hot and sticky weather  is starting and people living in the streets have no access to pools, beaches or even regular showers – and they often cannot afford to pick up simple supplies like these… There is  box out in the narthex for donations – we will be collecting for the next few weeks – if any one would like to help or be part of the mission trip please see me during coffee hour!

When I ran up the aisle there were stares and embarrassed coughs  and shocked look and then i started  piling stuff in top of Pastor's  op[en prayer book  and stuck a baseball cap on his head and people starting catching on and laughing  and boy did everyone pay attention..

:)

We didn't let anyone know what we were doing except the associate Pastor and the Vixter  (who I warned because I knew she would die of mortification if not pre-warned)

I'm only about 33% of the way through the Doug Haverty interview. It's quite interesting.

Clever idea-- and hopefully it saved the congregation from going into a coma.  Cute!!!

Good morning, all!

I may go to Toyland, and I may stay home, but I do have to contact my pharmacy for this month's meds as soon as I post this. Beyond that, I am not happy these days.  God knows what will become of us at Toyland; I thought I was taking my team into a project that we'd be on for a while, but I believe it will die after ROBERTA, we will all look for other work and go separate ways. As a continually aging coot, I have no idea what options I have for work, so I'm pondering my future and wishing it didn't look asbleask as it does to me at the moment.

And that's my day.

Thanks for the sympathy over the news about John Parker; last night I dreamed about a production of YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN from1976, and I'm sure a lot of th was stirred up by the thinking about the 1970s.

And more coffee.

DR Vixmom - I love your approach to your Temple Talk assignment.  Wouldn't fly in Fr. Richard's church, but I could absolutely see it done in the church I attended yesterday.

TOD:

I enjoy cop shows and, thanks to my wife, the house hunting shows.

Also, probably because I worked part-time in them during high school and college, I like the pawn shop programs.

Good morning, all.

I might be one of the few who had a quite decent sleep.  Well, it's a free day up until rehearsal tonight, I didn't seem to be Oying about anything, and the cats weren't ravenously hungry - so it just kind of worked out.

Coffee.  Banana.  English muffin.

I didn't stand up when I sang the song. Will I be forced to sit in the corner, Slumdog?

TOD: Have filmed several reality shows, I know that reality is word used very loosely with regards to what is happening. In fact, it's more scripted than a couple of the dramatic shows I worked on.

Just read the notes and it's nice to see BK's version of reality mirrors mine, or mine mirrors his.
