I love Patti LaBile. She still has a great voice and always had the best hair...especially in the 1980s!

With regard to THE GODFATHER, Part III:
It's certainly not in the same leagues with its two predecessors, but it is also not the total disaster that BK and others claim it to be.
The major problem, as I see it, was the casting of daughter Sofia. But the story of Michael Corleone needed to be completed and, for the most part, it was told quite well.
Today I am having sort of a day off.
Last night, our regular pianist was sick, so we had a walk in play for our rehearsal.... She had NEVER seen the music before.....and a lot of people sang as if it were their first time hearing it as well. It was a lot of torture....but we did get through it.
I dropped a lot of lines, so I am still working....NO BOOKS next week. But today is my sort of day off....so I am relaxing and posting here at HHW.
You have to learn the music and lyrics sometime folks....
Found a copy of the book: "Oklahoma: The Making of an American Musical" for $10 yesterday. It seemed expensive for a regular hardback at Half-Price Books, but I find on Amazon today that the suggested retail is $65!
And why is it necessary? Max Wilk's book, "OK: The Story of Oklahoma!" was written with plenty of the original players on hand to provide information.
Has anybody read it?

Yep. I enjoyed it. It's a scholastic press and those books always cost more; I think it's partly to do with the size ofd the run and the fact that they can get away with it.

So, bk, do you make copious notes during each "take" during the final vocal sessions, so that when you go in to comp the vocals, you pretty much have the road map of what you know you want to do? Or is it more free-form?

I lent Behind The Candleabra to my friend to watch!

Looks like you're the person to ask for clarification on this, DR George.
I never owned any of those originally. Probably never even heard the whole thing. Just a couple of years ago I stumbled upon a copy of The Primary Phase (on the audio cassettes!) which I totally loved hearing after all these years. So what does the complete series consist of? I hate to say it but now I don't even remember how much of the books Primary covered, so I'm taking it out to pop it in for a new listen.
I love these, like I love the original BBC TV version. They captured the spirit of the original work so beautifully in their special way.

The complete series of radio programs that I have are essentially the five books, radio-ized. They're billed as "Primary Phase" and "Secondary Phase" (which were recorded in the late 1970s/early 80s when Douglas Adams was alive) and "Tertiary Phase," "Quandary Phase" and "Quintessential Phase," which weren't recorded until 2004 and 2005. I also have a bonus disc.
There is a sixth book, "And Another Thing...", written by Eoin Colfer, but I don't know if that's been recorded as a radio program.

How's the overall style and quality of the Tertiary and all that followed? Is it a big jump from that of the first two?

Just read in the LA Times obits that Poncie Ponce from HAWAIIAN EYE passed away last Friday :(

I read that recently and thought my eyes deceived me.
Hello Everyone:
Well the painting is done for now. Looks great.
The nurse sent me home from work earlier after giving me a steroid shot and a prescription. She thinks I might have a sinus infection in the making.
All I know is the swelling around my left eye is still bad, but not as bad and, thankfully, it doesn't itch too much.
Well I'm still reading The Paris Wife by Paula Mclain.
It is very good. Loosely based on Ernest Hemingways life with his wife Hadley.
It is set during the Jazz Age in Paris. It is while Hemingway is writing The Sun Also Rises.

I'd read that some people are calling for a boycott of the next Olympics, which will be in Russia.
Thanks Jane.
I wish I could post pictures of the kitchen. One of these days I will learn how!
DR John G,
I hope you start to feel better soon.
Sinus infections are terrible. I had one last year!
The book is not as anecdotal or dishy as Max Wilk's book, and this is far beyond Wilk in scholarly examination of Theatre Guild papers, libretto development - it's amazing how old-fashioned for 1942 Hammerstein's original scenario was! - and music and lyrics. It's not an easy read because the scholastic goal, like my friend Dominic's book LOVERLY, is to seriously trace the show's gestation and its huge success.
It is set during the Jazz Age in Paris. It is while Hemingway is writing The Sun Also Rises.
Hmmm, she picked the wrong book ;)

This Side of Paradise is wonderful. It's not a wrong book.
DR's George & TCB I hope you will share the photo I just put on FB that goes with the following story:
"Army First Lieutenant Brandon Harker arrived home from a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan to find his two-year-old yellow labrador retriever was either given away or sold while he was gone."
DR John G, Cather should be very soothing. Feel better soon! Thanks, Ginny.

I think I had a very funny expression on my face when I read this ;D
Overall, I've kind of ignored latter day Coppola.
I do like certain aspects of "Bram Stoker's Dracula".
Wow!!
Oh, DR George - I am sure that yours looks just like that.
Yikes!
He could be an agent of some kind as opposed to a regular direct employee of AT&T. We get that very kind of thing around here. I've had these knocks on the door for Comcast Cable and for AT&T. When I put them off, saying I'll call the company if/when I want something, they protest that the company won't necessarily be able to offer the deals that they can give me right now. Well, too bad. For peace of mind and a certain satisfaction, if nothing else, I think it's great that you went after him and got the paper back.
Well, I must be going, too. I'm off to my sister's, who's making some cookies! :D
Be back later!
I'm so annoyed with myself right now it's not even funny. An AT&T sales rep came to the door - they're done installing their fibre optic stuff in the nabe and are pitching UVerse to everyone. As you know I've been very unhappy with Time Warner and have threatened several times to go this other route, so I listened and since they come and install for free and give you a test period to see how much better their service is, I said okay. And then came the stupid part. He said they just needed my social or driver's license number to do a soft credit check - I'm normally not so stupid but he was very good - I'd already given him my phone numbers, he had the address, and I'd given him my name for the appointment set-up. He did give me his cell, which I haven't tried yet but will tomorrow. And then, stupidly, I gave him my license number and date of birth - I'm usually not this damn STUPID. So, I went online and began reading about AT&T which I searched with "scam" and "getting credit information." And while I did find similar concerns on a few boards no one actually said they'd had anything compromised, although I'm not sure they actually had given their info. Of course AT&T was gone when I called. So, figuring he was still working the street, I went outside and found him two doors north of me talking to the homeowner there. I made him give me the order sheet that he'd written my number on (no carbon that I could see), which he did. I told him I'd check it all out and call him to come back if it was all okay. Of course, he could have already transmitted my information elsewhere via his cell phone. I'm now petrified that something no good will come of this. Obviously they don't know where I bank and don't know my credit cards, but they could create accounts in my name and/or checking accounts in my name. They don't have my social security number so I'm not sure how any of that would work, and they certainly can't get the social by having my license number. And my billing address for just about everything isn't the home address, so they don't have that either. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
