Well, you've read the notes, the notes were okie doke, and now it is time for you to post until the okie doke cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PICA!

Enjoyed today's songs, bk.

My mom volunteers at the local senior center and some posted a notice that they needed host families for the teachers. My mom volunteered. And I didn't remember correctly. Sue (the English name she goes by) is actually Chinese, not Japanese and she's not taking classes, she's actually teaching beginning Chinese to students here in the US. Anyway, she's very nice and she does speak and understand English very well.

Several friends of my parents also came over. Two of them, Margita (who lives in Spokane and one of her sons and grand kids live in Olympia), and Judy (who lives in Tacoma) have known my parents since we all lived in Germany in the same apartment building when my dad (and their former husbands) were in the army in the late 1960s. And Mona (who lives just a few blocks from my parents) and John and Anna (who just live a few miles away) have known my parents since we lived in Colorado, in the early 1970s. They've all gotten to know each other over the years. A very good time was had by all. :)
-
I came home at about 8:30 or so and was just going to close my eyes for a bit (I was getting tired at my parents house...probably from all the food :D) and I promptly fell asleep until about midnight!
-
I'm now watching "The Doctors Revisited: The Seventh Doctor" and the classic Doctor Who episode, "Remembrance of the Daleks," except that the Comcast description says, "The seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) faces the Rani, his most scientific foe." There are no Rani in this episode.
And I HATE that during this whole series they've stretched the full-frame picture of the classic episodes to fit the widescreen TV. They don't have the black bars on the side. It's VERY annoying. :P
-
And now, to bed.
-
Morning all.
That is all.

Good morning, all! I am going into Toyland today. I'll be there tomorrow and Tuesday, I believe; I've got one number in ROBERTA needing a fix, which means cutting and pasting a section from another part of the orchestra part onto the ending, then photocopying a new orchestra part, taping it together and sending all these new parts to Dublin.
I am also going to work on correcting the orchestra parts for DEAREST ENEMY, so there will be a set of corrected masters to handover to Rodgers & Hammerstein. I currently have a lot of free time to do that.
That's my day and tomorrow and . . .
-
Last night I tried to watch a movie called Ladies In Lavender, but the damned CD wouldn't play. So, instead I watched the first episode of Season 2 of Larkrise to Candleford, which turned out to be a Christmas ghost story that was both funny, quirky, and really frightening at moments. The carols, played on accordion and banjo, were a lot of fun as well.
-
Sunday, Sweet Sunday. No funny papers to lie or fly around the house, though.
-
Nothing could compel me to watch a movie or read a book titled THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.
-
Or one titled THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS.
-
Nice songs in the notes!
-
Greetings from Toyland! Two speedy bus rides, the 104 to Lincoln Center and the 7 to Toyland.
I have my work all lined up and I can begin as soon as I've had some breakfast.
-
Good morning, all.
Had a long, exhausting evening, alternating between enjoyable and boring, and by the time I was back home and winding down and saw that TCB had heroically gotten us to the top of page five, I was so sapped that I could say nothing, just shut the computer down and went to bed.
Only one dream that I can recall. What I can't recall are the specifics which I think would be fairly interesting.
More coffee!
-
Okay, I think I am finally interested in DRAGON TATTOO.
I've let months (years?) of people's talking about it kind of go by me, but BK's summary of what's good, etc., in today's notes has finally focused my sights on the thing.
Can't say how soon I'll get to it. But it'll happen.
-
Also liked BK's off-the-cuff short list of films one doesn't tire of.
BTW, there's video of someone from Criterion speaking at a conference or something in which he says they have SUNDAYS AND CYBELE on the docket. I hope I didn't dream that...
-
Nice clips -- and the piano girl song is especially beautiful.
-
Good morning.
-
attempted to watch a film called Cabin In The Woods. I was with a group of people. Once person fell asleep within the first ten minutes and the others thought the premise was stupid and we stopped watching after 20 minutes. No great loss
-
Good morning to all
-
I really liked the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books. And I did enjoy the Swedish movie. But for me it was way too violent.
-
And the word of the day is: PICA!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I WANT IT NOW
-
Good morning, all.
Slept off an on for 11 hours or so. A little too long, unfortunately, because it means the eye is itchy. I guess it's waiting for the decongestant to kick in.
Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

I bought my mom a collection of the Candleford novels for her birthday. She's reading them now and enjoying them.

I would love to see the extended Girl movies from Sweden, but the added material is still available only on Blu-Ray and I haven't yet broken down for a Blu-Ray player. I see one in the near future, however. I now own three Blu-Ray discs.
-
Oh man, it's a jungle out there, searching through DRAGON TATTOO listings.
BK, is this the Blu-ray set that's the one to get?

PICA or ELITE

Page One at one o'Clock?
I don't think so. Out, damned Page One.
PAGE TWO.
-
Good Day all:
I agree BK, North by Northwest, Best Years of Our Lives, and Umbrellas of Cherbourg, I also can watch over and over again.
-
DR ChasSmith - I think you can get the same thing without having to go to the UK: http://goo.gl/Ehh6SO (http://goo.gl/Ehh6SO)

Good Day all:
I agree BK, North by Northwest, Best Years of Our Lives, and Umbrellas of Cherbourg, I also can watch over and over again.
"The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" is being shown this evening on one of the French satellite TV channels which I can receive. I'll be watching it to see what the picture quality is like. I was fortunate to see the film when it was first released theatrically. It was also one of the very first soundtracks I bought.

No need to get the import unless it's cheaper than the US version, which is here:

I'm up - got up at ten-thirty after nine hours or more of blessed sleep.
-
Umbrellas is finally coming to Blu-ray in November, newly restored by the same folks who did Young Girls, which was excellent. The last "restoration" was overseen by the Demy widow, Agnes Varda and it was horrible. But I've seen a couple of clips of this new one and it looks like it just might be what we've been waiting for.
-
That news makes my day! :)
-
The UK release of DRAGON TATTOO came to $29 USD including the shipping, as opposed to $42 for the US, so I gave the nod to DR Doug's economy for this one.
-
I'm am hoping I am officially finished with all of the printing and adjusting of ROBERTA, and I can go on to the DEAREST ENEMT fixes. which should take me the next couple of weeks. I'd like to finish before I head off to Dublin. We'll see.

Thank you DR ChasSmith. That's much appreciated ;D

How about...................
What is the ONE film you can watch over and over and never get tired of watching it?
I think it used to be THE WIZARD OF OZ until I loaned my copy to the Welfare Office to entertain the kiddies in the waiting room. The receptionists preceded to show it three or four times a day, for over a year.
Now the film I can watch over and over again is THE COURT JESTER. What a perfect film with wonderful performances from everyone involved.
-
Very nice songs, BK.

When are the Dublin dates?
-
Well the French TV showing of "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" turned out to be the 1990 restoration, same as the Kock Lorber DVD, so it didn't look very good. But I'm certainly looking forward to the new French Blu-ray.

I started watching the first couple of episodes of Season 1 of TORCHWOOD last night at about 10:00 p.m. Fortunately my ipad's battery was getting very low, or I probably would have kept watching all night.
-
Nick woke me at around seven to get his breakfast. After that, I went back to bed and slept straight through until 10:30.
-
It was very strange this morning. I am almost always a side sleeper, but this moring when I went back to bed I was on my back Although I am usually a restless sleeper, I was still in the exact same position when I woke up.
-
And apparently I didn't snore this morning, becasue Nick was curled up on the bed with me.

Aw shucks, it's nothing. Go ahead and celebrate. It's on me. Throw another coal on the fire! :)

Sunday afternoon greetings! I met Rob and Mary Linda at their church for the 10:30 service, after which they followed me home. We regrouped here and went over to the local Greek church for lunch. It's their annual festival, which is always fun and tasty. We visited the bakery on the way out and each got one item to have with coffee when we got home. I still have half of mine for later.
-
Okay, we really need to get out of the end of July doldrums or there will be hell toupee.
-
I've been relaxing and watching amusing things online, such as the dealer who was trying to get 6200 for a signed Cuckoo's Calling lowering his price to 5400 - he won't sell at that either, not right now. The stupid frenzy has to end in order for people to not just think there will be endless copies available everywhere - there really aren't, but that's kind of the appearance. That same dealer also lowered his unsigned copy price to under 3000 - that won't sell either. One just went on eBay of 1800, and that may be a new high for unsigned but we'll have to watch other copies to see where they end up.
-
Get me off this damn page.

I've finished my work at Toyland, and i can head for the bus. I'm ready to go home and have some dinner!

I chuckled over all the changes in the story :) It still is interesting and I expect should be a very enjoyable experience.

Nothing could compel me to watch a movie or read a book titled THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.
The dragon tattoo too darn big in the Swedish version, otherwise I think you should get past the title and see the movie :)
-
We are watching Monkey Business, with Cary Grant, Ginger Rogers, and Marilyn Monroe.

Well, this is pretty pathetic! 65 posts?

Is everybody still at church? Vixmom is out of town.

Silly bit of fun. Always enjoy it when I see it.

Or better yet read the books. I don't see why the title would impact anyone. They are really good books.

It is raining here. A lot.
-

I went to nap about 2 hours ago and not many posts since then.

Been synching my phone and computer music files. I hate iTunes. I hate the fact that you can't get some albums in order. The whole score of "Giant," for example, is grouped by the person singing it, so all of Brick's solos are together, etc. And Orchestra, which plays the overture, is toward the end. Blech.

IMHO, the 2nd & 3rd books were much better than the films.

Hello, everyone.
It's a cool, overcast day here in LA. Not to some people's liking, but it is to mine.
-
Allergy-be-gone vibes (or should it be sinus-be-gone vibes?) to DR John G and anyone else who needs them.
-
I, too, slept late today, unusual for me, as it's seldom quiet enough here to do so.
-
Last week was very strange in lots of little am-I-being-gaslighted? ways. I'm told strange things are going on in the heavens.
(Singdaw, are you with me?)
-
77 Sunset Strip!
-
Allergy-be-gone vibes (or should it be sinus-be-gone vibes?) to DR John G and anyone else who needs them.
I thank you. I think it should be the former. I'd like to keep my sinsuses. I'm still using them.
-
I watched a wonderful British film last night, THE SCAPEGOAT. It's a remake of a 1959 Bette Davis film, based on a story by Daphne de Maurier. A man walks into a pub and happens upon his doppelganger. I would never have guessed how it plays out. Beautifully done, with lots of nuances.
DR Doug, have you seen this? I believe it was made for TV. Do you know? Anyone else seen it?
-

I thank you. I think it should be the former. I'd like to keep my sinsuses. I'm still using them.
How about sinus-problems-be-gone vibes?
-
And I am home! 45 minutes of bus hell with a mother who did jack to discipline her two misbehaving brats, and i really longed for the little on who thought she was cute when she emitted piercing high pitched screams to inhale something and choke to death in front of my eyes. When my brothers and I were kids, we were disciplined, especially when we were obnoxious in public. This mother couldn't put down her cell phone to do a thing. These kids are riding free and I wish they were under the bus rather than riding inside it.
I have to wash and clean up some broccoli for dinner
-
JRand, I'm also put off at times by movie or book titles, but THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO surprised me. I agree with BK that it's a wonderful film. The writing was better than I expected, far above most writing these days. I'd urge you to give it a few minutes at least. It is violent, but no worse than many others.
-
Broccoli is good for choking. 8)
-
(Singdaw, are you with me?)
I most certainly am! :)
-
But I am now called to get something on the table for dinner, alas.
-
I am amazed at how many parents allow their children to run wild--and at how few recipients say anything. I think a bus driver would be justified in telling the woman to quiet her children or get off the bus. Not likely, I know, but I'd like to see it.
-

I was surprised when Keith's brother mentioned it this morning. He seemed happy with. i

Wouldn't that be a novelty, the bus driver saying something. I wonder if they just learn to tune out all the noise behind them.
-
The violence in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is nothing compared to really violent films - nothing you haven't seen before and nothing terrible.
Also, Jrand, while the film and English translation of the first book is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the Swedish title actually translates to Men Who Hate Women, which is what the book is kind of about.
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
Thank you.

Much nicer, thank you. :)

We're awfully polite on Page Four today.
-
I love these stories, and I'm thinking that riding the city bus full of unruly children with DR Elmore aboard, might be just as much fun as driving the streets of L.A. when populated with a bunch of idiots, with BK at the wheel. :)
-

I always have to change the album artist for every track to something like "Original Broadway Cast" (or whatever kind of recording it is), so that they're all consistent. That usually then puts the tracks all together.
-
And then I almost always have to change the genre to something consistent. "Musical" is one of the drop-down options, but they come in iTunes from my CDs as either "soundtrack" or "soundtracks" or "musicals" or something completely different.
-
watched taxi driver.
what a great film.
what a great bernard hermann score
-
Sounds like a nightmare, DR George.
-
I like the musical version of Taxi Driver myself.
-
In about forty minutes I'll be on my way to The Federal. I'm starving.

That's what I do too. Album artist is always the subdivision like broadway, london, broadway revival, studio cast and with a year if necessary
-
Wow. I don't store music on my computer or any other device (well, hardly ever), so I'm missing all the fun.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
But I won't.
-
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child.
-
The broccoli was quite good. I think I'll have peanut butter and jelly now.
-
Sometimes I feel like a mother.
-
Sometimes I feel like a churro.
-
Sometimes I feel like a Charo.
-
Well, BK, most of the time I feel like a childless mother.
-
Sometimes I feel like getting off page four.
-
This would be one of those times.
-
But we all know page four is trying to gaslight us.
-
I will continue tonight with the 2nd season of Larkspur to Candleford. I love Christmas ghost stories.
-
Sometimes I feel like a pastrami on rye with cole slaw and Russian dressing.
-
Sometimes I feel like a Russian dressing - in boots and a big coat.
-
Sometimes I feel like an old Jew dressing.
-
I'm so excited to announce tomorrow's CD.
-
Does anyone here know what it is?
-
No. (5!)
-
No one wants to post on Page 5.

I'm am hoping I am officially finished with all of the printing and adjusting of ROBERTA, and I can go on to the DEAREST ENEMT fixes. which should take me the next couple of weeks. I'd like to finish before I head off to Dublin. We'll see.
Elmore, when do you leave for Dublin?

If anyone is interested, my review of Kinky Boots is on TuneScoop. It played on Beverley's World of Music this evening. I sent out the usual e-mail blast but there are people who don't get that e-mail who may want to hear what I think about the show. While I loved it, there are others I know who are not as taken with it as I was. As someone on this site says, that's horse racing.
The link is below. Click and you will be taken to the TuneScoop page. Click at the bottom of the page to listen to the review (about 3:25 seconds) or click download to save the mp3 file and listen to it at your leisure.

Has anyone read William Friedkin's autobiography?
Not yet, but I read the book review in the Times, which makes it sound interesting.

Why? Does he talk about Dom Deluise?

The violence in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is nothing compared to really violent films - nothing you haven't seen before and nothing terrible.
Also, Jrand, while the film and English translation of the first book is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the Swedish title actually translates to Men Who Hate Women, which is what the book is kind of about.
I disagree about the violence being "nothing you haven't seen before and nothing terrible". Maybe I don't watch a lot of violent movies. But shooting someone that is obviously fake feels different to me than watching a woman being brutally/graphically raped or someone being brutally tortured.

If anyone here watches the CBS show UNFORGETTABLE the season premiere is on tonight.

I got your email & opened the link but it said that it wasn't available anymore ??? I'll try again tomorrow.

I agree with this though I think they handled it well compared to reading it in the book which was also difficult to do.

It wouldn't play on iTunes for me, but I finally got it to play on RealPlayer. Your review was a lot of fun. I really do enjoy the score for that show.

That's it for me today. I think I'm going to curl up with a book before bed. Good night, all.
-
We watched THE TERMINAL with Tom Hanks tonight.
It's really a very nice, entertaining movie.
-
It was very strange this morning. I am almost always a side sleeper, but this moring when I went back to bed I was on my back Although I am usually a restless sleeper, I was still in the exact same position when I woke up.
Hopefully, this is a good thing.
Unless I had an elephant sitting on my face.

Hello, everyone.
It's a cool, overcast day here in LA. Not to some people's liking, but it is to mine.
LOL! I thought you meant is was cool and overcast in Louisiana!

I suspect you've seen very few violent movies. And I think what you're talking about is not shown graphically and I think your mind creates more than is there - this is a phenomenon that's been going on forever with violent movies. When I saw Psycho as a twelve year old, believe me I thought that knife had cut Janet Leigh to ribbons and that every puncture was shown in graphic detail over and over with scads of blood. The reality is you see none of that but through editing and inference you think you're seeing much more than you are. There's nothing pleasant about the scenes you're describing and that's as it should be. But there is far more that's disturbing on screen in Silence of the Lambs than there is in Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Back from Joan Ryan's show. She is uber talented and a wonderful singer. But I didn't love her new act and for very specific reasons and the two people I was with felt even stronger than I did that the show just didn't land right. But since every other person in the club was a friend or family member she'll hear only great things - and that's fine.

The dog days of July that's what this last week has turned into.

Sometimes I feel like a fruit chew.
-
Sometimes I feel like page seven.
-
But we barely got to page six so it's a long way to seven. I think I'll try to write the notes early and schedule them so I can get six or seven hours of sleep before arising at six in the morning.
-
Sometimes I feel like a fruit chew.
You don't look anything like a fruit chew.

I just bought tickets to see the new musical version of "Secondhand Lions (https://www.5thavenue.org/show/secondhand-lions)" in Seattle at the 5th Avenue Theatre (http://www.5thavenue.org/), with book by Cillaliz's close and personal friend, Rupert Holmes! :D
Yes, that was a great sale on tickets for $29.00.
-
You are correct, BK.
-
It is indeed a long way to Page Seven.
-
It would be nice if the 2 Guests would help post.
-
But I doubt that will happen.
-
Sundays are supposed to be free for all days, where we suggest the topics.
-
I offered one possible topic this morning, but not one person responded.
-
If people didn't like my topic, that's fine. Other topics could have been suggested.
-
The busiest posting days, other than awards days, are the ones where we get going on a topic
-
But not one response to my suggestion, or one suggestion from anyone else.
No wonder BK gets frustrated.
-
G'night!

1776 (http://www.amazon.com/1776-Restored-Directors-William-Daniels/dp/B000067D1R/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1375076421&sr=1-1&keywords=1776). I love this movie and I love the extended laserdisc version, no matter what anyone says. :)

It was...of course, there's a $7 PER TICKET charge, so they're not $29, but they're still cheaper than the normal price.
-
I've scheduled the notes and shall now open the new topic even though we have not reached page seven, which is most unseemly.

Sometimes I feel like a Necco wafer.

Sometimes I feel like I'm beating a dead horse.

Sometimes I feel the answer is blowing in the wind.

Sometimes I feel the answer is gone with the wind from all that blowing.

I think you can see that this discussion board is messing with our minds. How can we still be on page six?
-
There are thirty damn posts on page six so how can we be on damn page six?
