What the hell!?
On the internet, every day can be - April Fool's Day
This gal I know posted on Facebook an article from the National Report website that all Arizona schools are implementing a gay to straight conversion program where gay students will be converted to straight students. She was outraged and sharing it all over Facebook, as were others. Now, this gal is, one assumes, reasonably intelligent, but somehow we have devolved into a social networking bunch of idiots, because the article came from a "satire" website and is so obviously "satire" it's not even funny (and it's not, but that's another story). A simple Google search reveals the story as fake. But now it goes from person to person on Facebook and even on the National Report site there are six hundred comments acting as if the story were real. And when finally shown this was fake, the gal said, "Shit, well, glad it's not real. I wouldn't put anything past Arizona." And I wouldn't put anything past this woman's IQ quotient, but she's always doing this - getting on her soapbox about political crap - but obviously she'll believe and post anything.
Everything's Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age of Industrial Musicals
"From the 1950s into the 1980s, American businesses commissioned a vast array of lavish, Broadway-style musical shows that were only for the eyes and ears of employees. These improbable productions were meant to invigorate, motivate, and educate the sales force to sell tractors, typewriters, bathtubs, insurance, soda, air-conditioners, and a thousand other products and services. Though many of these shows were lost to the universe, some were recorded and distributed to convention attendees via souvenir vinyl recordings. The little-known world of industrial shows is reconstructed through the record collection of author Steve Young, who has spent some twenty years finding the extremely rare souvenir albums as well as tracking down and interviewing the writers and performers. Through the records themselves as well as behind-the-scenes stories, a new perspective on American history, culture, and business emerges. Eye-popping visuals, samples of confounding and hilarious lyrics, and witty commentary by Young and co-author Sport Murphy (who also contributes original artwork) bring the topic to vivid, astonishing life. A companion website will offer streaming audio of the songs which seem too crazy to be realbut not only are they real, they're often a revelation."

Is soft boiled the same as poached?
I loved poached eggs as a kid (probably still would, but haven't had one in years) but as I remember it, my mother only took the trouble to make them when we were sick. I've never been sure what the reasoning is behind that (easier to eat or digest when sick?), but they sure were good!
I could, of course, eat a few right now.

In the fact that they both have runny yolks but I don't think soft boiled and poached are the same. Poached eggs are done out of the shell in boiling water while a soft boiled (or 3 minute) egg is done in the shell and you eat it either in an egg cup or in some other device. The top is usually removed and you eat the egg while it stays in the shell.

OH wow, that looks like a fun book! Too bad these musicals weren't recorded visually as well. Can you imagine?!

Some were recorded. I bought an album on eBay several years ago called something like "All in the Ford Family" (but it might not have been "Ford"), based, of course, on "All in the Family." I haven't actually listened to it, though. I have no idea what it's like.

I was afraid to say this earlier, suspecting I might have let it go in one of my purges, but I'm delighted to hear these corporate musicals are rare and in demand because I have one! Found it at a large community record sale years ago. Gatefold album, two LPs, and not only have I never played it, it looks like the original owner never did, either! Here's a sampling, and be sure note the music and lyric credits.

No one had contacted me all morning. Then all hell broke loose at work while I was at lunch.
Spent the rest of the afternoon trying to calm people down who were agitated for no reason whatsoever.
People of the film score board have guessed Monday's release and the reaction to it has been great - until this afternoon, thanks to an obnoxious, self-serving series of posts on the Intrada board by the owner of that label and his second in command. The second in command's posts were unnecessary but fine. The owner's post was completely unacceptable - an attempt by him to make his own release of this score (the second of the previous three releases) seem like the best of the releases. This he did by making this huge deal that we're using the half-inch three-track mix downs done by the film's composer. He posited that the orchestra placement would be weird, that they wouldn't be true stereo mixes, and the synth stuff wouldn't be in the right place. All that positing without ever having heard one NOTE of what's on the half-inch mixes. Guess what? The orchestra placement is EXACTLY the same as the two-track digital mixes in every way, not a whit of difference. Oops. I mean, the same digital mixes (this score was recorded digitally in 1986, when digital was particularly awful) and the digital two-track that came from that was harsh, unpleasant and not that great. If I'd wanted to use those, I had the previous three CD releases and could have but I didn't want to and therefore I didn't. What I wanted was to create the best-sounding release of this score and for me the original half-inch three-track mix downs is what I wanted - because they went from the digital session masters and printed to analogue tape and the sound is so much more pleasant than the ugly all digital. There was never a question that that was my plan and how dare this person, this head of a label, do this, trying to sully our album before he's even heard it.I can understand someone feeling upset when he thinks his business is being threatened, but to criticize something before hearing it is ridiculous and threatens his business even more.
I posted a version of the above on his board and have no idea if he's come back at me - if he does he will not be a happy camper. I'll just start talking about his release of Dressed to Kill, a CD release that completely subverts the sound of Pino Donaggio and his music by presenting the score with 0 reverb - dry as the dessert and making an orchestra of at least fifty sound like twenty. Donaggio is known for a very wet sound and a simple comparison listen to the Varese release of Dressed to Kill, prepared by Pino, will tell you all you need to know.
when this movie was released my parents thought a story about a Scottish girls school teacher would be a lovely wholesome family movie
Back to work for a while longer.

Ohhhhhh.......
I am reading The Cuckoo's Calling and enjoying it. At the point I'm at now, though, she's almost introduced too many characters for my taste. But I'm only about 2/3 through the book, so maybe it will all tie together. But I do really love the main characters and hope she turns this into a series.
Consumption –Last year attendees of the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival and “Bacon Week” consumed 6,000 lbs of bacon which is approximately 96,000 strips. If laid end to end it would nearly be half the diameter of Neptune!

I don't have time to read it. I'm only up to page 160. And yes, there are a great many characters already.

LOL!
Thank you, BK! I needed a laugh today.
I saw that stupid Arizona story posted earlier today on a news site. Horrible how some things get out of hand.
Tomorrow night it's movie night in my friends' back yard. They are showing 1000 Clowns. I haven't seen it before so I'm looking forward to it. I really enjoy movie night.
Good evening. I spent the whole day up north in the forest looking for fungi.
