Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the death of a dog, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home.

DR Vixmom, today is also our "Rally" Day, only we call it "Kick-Off Sunday." We've got a brass quintet for the services, and afterward a huge outdoor brunch.

Forgot to mention that yesterday I listened to the new cast recording of Annie. I don't like the new "tarted-up" orchestrations. The New Yawk accents are an interesting{?} choice. Amazing luxury casting with Anthony Warlow as Daddy W. He still sounds like a god - never heard his songs sounding better. I think if I wanted to hear this score again, I'd go back to the original. Dorothy Loudon can't be bettered.

Speaking of anniversaries, DR George, how was your friends' wedding?

It was so much fun and I had a wonderful time.  Rick and Scott have been together for 24 years and I've known them for about 23 of those years.  They actually could've gotten married last year, but they wanted to plan it all out and it was such a great moment for them.  I was able to chat with a whole bunch of friends that I hadn't seen in a while.  That was great.  It really was a great day for Rick and Scott.

My show call was 7:00 and I started to leave at about 6:00, but I wanted to at least say hi to my friend Andrea.  We started chatting and we (most her) kept going until we were the last of the guests and didn't actually leave until about 7:10!  As I was driving to the show, however, I got a call from our stage manager asking where the heck I was.  Spoo!!  I did get there long before the show started, but I was having such a good time with everything and especially talking with Andrea that I forgot to call to at least let them know that I was running late.  But it was worth it. :D

I hadn't seen Andrea in probably nine years.  About six or seven years ago, she started losing her eye sight and it turns out that she has a genetic degenerative eye condition and now she's lost most of her sight.  And from what I've read from her Facebook posts, it's incurable.  There's not even any kind of preventative treatment.  You just lose your eye sight.  But she's a survivor.

Right now though, she's not completely blind.  She was able to walk around the tables on her own and she was able to recognize a mutual friend of ours.  She told me about her going to a school for the blind to learn how to do everything without seeing.  She used to produce shows for The Abbey Players (a no-longer-in-existence community theater group) when I was doing shows with them and she wants to get back into some kind of fund raising/advocacy work.
Title: Re: THE DEATH OF A DOG
Post by: George on September 08, 2013, 02:31:34 AM
Andrea is also interested in being an advocate for sight impaired LGBT youth.  She said that just being gay OR being blind is a difficult enough situation for kids to deal with but if they're both, that's even so much worse.  I told her about Theater Artists Olympia wanting to do The Rocky Horror Show and that we're going to have a fund raiser at the beginning of November and she expressed interest in helping with that.  She certainly has the experience.  She would be a great help!  Hopefully, it'll all work out for her to do that.

And through it all, her husband has been extremely supportive.  He's a great guy.  He and I chatted while we were in the food line.

As for the show, it was great!  Because they now have rush tickets for the show and dessert only, they added some tables.  The problem is that Guy and I as the cops were blocked to try and break down the wall (pretending, of course).  But now, there are tables in the way.  It's been different these last two nights, but not a horrible situation.  We just go to wherever we can.

My hobbling on my leg with the pulled muscle wasn't horrible, either.  I've been managing well enough.  I'm sure that it's going to take a while till I'm completely back to normal, but I'll manage in the meantime.
Title: Re: THE DEATH OF A DOG

After the shows, we've stayed after and had drinks and danced and anyone from the audience can stay, but no one really has.  But tonight, several people did!  They danced and chatted and we all had a great time.  We stayed there for a couple of hours after the show ended.  And I wasn't the last one to leave.  That's been a lot of fun, too. ;D

The people from the restaurant said that next Saturday after our last performance, they were going to cater a cast party for us and really do it up right!  Even just the "normal" food that they've been serving us has been pretty darned good, so next week's gonna be really good!

Here's one last thing about the evening.  At the wedding, they had pastel colored mason-type jars filled with silicon bead-things (the kind where you add water and they look like ice) and a battery powered LED light ball as decorations on each table.  After the wedding, they were just going to throw them all away, so they said people could take them and I took one.  After the show, I had the little light ball with me and to be funny I put it on my silver hoop earring.  Heather (who's in the show) took this picture of me.  Also, this is the shirt that I wore to the wedding:

The killing of Dee Dee's song is terrible and reprehensible. Are there not leash laws in the area. The dog running wild like that is against the law and could have attack Dee Dee as well.

Animal control needs to be called and if this is not the first time I believe the dog can be taken away from the owners. Dee Dee should not give up. Justice needs to be done for her beloved dog.

Horrible story about Casey and her Dee Dee. Was kinda stunned by that when I read it yesterday. Made me appreciated my little birdy more, even though JB's been really bad lately. He's very jealous of the work. (But that doesn't make the work go away.)

I saw LOVE, LOSS, AND WHAT I WORE last night.....a play by a couple of the Ephron girls, mother & daughter, I think.
The actresses were all very good....some outstanding, but the play itself is only fair....with some excellent moments and the rest kind of lackluster.  The ladies in the audience seemed to enjoy it very much.  It's a series of monologs and dialogs about clothes and weddings and men.....

I am not a dog person at all, but find the story completely heartbreaking. I definitely would not let this go because the dog could attack another dog or person.

I saw the dvd of THE HOST a few days ago.

For the most part the movie very closely resembles the book.  I really dislike when the movie changes a lot of things. I know for a 2 hour movie that things need to be cut out. But I absolutely prefer it when the movie follows the book.

My only problems were near the end. I feel like they probably ran out of time. And there was a whole sequence that felt completely rushed to me. But other than that it was really good.

Good morning, all! It is 24 hours to physical therapy and I cannot wait!

Last night was terrible: I was up at 3am to take another muscle relaxer, and around 4:30 I took another Tylenol with codeine. I could not settle into a comfortable sleeping position and the pains were intense. I will spend most of my day in bed watching the Jack Benny Lost Episodes.

BK I agree with what you said in the notes. They should file suit...  I'd suggest getting an animal friendly lawyer, as there is good possibility of damages for pain and suffering, especially since Dee Dee saw it happen and had to do whatever she had to do to get the dog off of Casey.   Also the media, that often does more good than anything.  Much more than waiting for the "investigation".

Yes, He has a house here and was doing the shows in his living room for a couple of years, I think.  He now has a space in a strip mall (which is better than some black box theatres I've seen).  I admire him for doing it and getting all the kids and actors together.

Don Bluth has a theater?  In Arizona?
Yes, He has a house here and was doing the shows in his living room for a couple of years, I think.  He now has a space in a strip mall (which is better than some black box theatres I've seen).  I admire him for doing it and getting all the kids and actors together.
Apparently his involvement is no mere token thing.  He seem heavily involved to the point of personally directing all the productions.  See here (http://www.donbluthfrontrowtheatre.com/).

This in, from John Cleese:        :)

"The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France 's white flag factory, effectively paralysing the country's military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and "Lose."

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be alright, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is cancelled." So far no situation has ever warranted use of the last final escalation level.

Back from a very nice and somewhat culinarily confused Jewish dinner that sort takes the best of Passover, Rosh Hashanah and Hanukkah, and combines them all in one meal. In other words, they made the foods they liked, latkes and gefilte fish, lox and bagels, chopped liver, kugel, kishka and honey cake.

It was really good, but, boy, were there a lot of carbs. My blood sugar is not going to be happy in the morning.

Back from the talent contest - I have no idea who won because this show, which was supposed to last an hour, lasted at least two hours and fifteen minutes - not because of the 23 contestants - they did exactly as they were told and performed three minutes or under.  They were professional.  The adults, those self-serving adults who make these things all about them and their self-important crap are the problem.  Hiring a director would have helped immeasurably, but these hopeless people (their hearts are in the right place) don't know how to put on a show and they allowed it to become a bore.  That is unfair to the kids participating and the adults should be ashamed of themselves.  Especially the host - some former mayor of San Gabriel - you couldn't have chosen worse than this guy.  Not only did he take up the first twenty-five minutes of the show with his endless blather (and introducing some other adults who had their own blather - really, we understand why we're there and who you are), he then announces each and ever judge, and there were at least ten of them, AND read their bios from the program.  Is he out of his cotton-pickin' mind?  We HAVE the program, Mr. Ex-Mayor, and we can read it for ourselves, and no, we don't need to hear the judges' names because they're - IN THE PROGRAM.  Then he does all the introductions of the kids from off-stage, but in the program they've each written a small paragraph about why they love performing - sweet idea, but Mr. Ex-Mayor decided to read THAT, too - then they had a ten-minute intermission that lasted twenty minutes, and the girl I was there to see they put on third to last.  That's fine had we not had to endure the yokel-fest that took up all that time in completely unnecessary ways.  As soon as the girl was through, I had to run to my car and I barely made my six-thirty dinner meeting.

That was fun, the dinner meeting.

And I also have that shirt.

Today's "Hollywood Who Done It" went very well.  We had a good audience and fortunately, not as full as last night (for my big cop scene with my cop partner, Guy, we actually had some wall space to use!), but they very muchly enjoyed it.  We ended the weekend on a good note (D-natural).  It'll be nice to have a few days off to relax and just work.  We now only have two performances left and then it's all over.
