Title: OLD AXIOMS AND OLD SAWS
Post by: bk on September 14, 2013, 12:33:44 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were old and had both axioms and saws, and now it is time for you to post until the axiomatic cows come home.

A song!!  Thanks so much, DR FJL. And DR Ben. And bk, for the acknowledgement in today's notes.

I am very sorry I will not be able to be around HHW to play today. I have racked up so many sins in my first half-century that I am going to have to spend the entire day at synagogue, atoning.     :)

Until later!

Toward a Go-To Gershwin Edition

Is it to-may-to or to-mah-to? That question may be unanswerable, but an agreement between the estates of George and Ira Gershwin and the University of Michigan, to be announced on Sunday, aims to create the first definitive edition of the Gershwins’ entire joint body of work, including such landmark pieces as “Rhapsody in Blue,” “Porgy and Bess” and “An American in Paris”...

Good morning, all!  No tylenol last night but i did need the flexerill. As soon as I lie down to sleep my left foot begins to throb. It didn't bother me all day, but last night, Bingo!

I need to purchase that new mattress, but I am stuck until my social security comes in next week.  I've had to hold off because of the damned estimated tax payments last week.

As fo everything else, status quo.

Saturday morning greetings!  I am back after an interesting couple of days with my sister in Indiana.  We were doing family history research and did a little touristing in the Amish community of Shipshewana.  We were surprised at how "kitschy" the community is and how many of the "handcrafted" items are made in China.  I was very tired after 2 five-hour drives in two days and just crashed last night.

Suiting up now for Michigan's noon kick-off - Go, Blue!

TOD:

They do make me laugh these days:

Every dog has its day.  -  Well, sure, it goes to sleep and has a day when it wakes up, right?

A stitch in time saves nine. - Saves nine what? Pints of blood?

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. - Is the gift horse like the tooth fairy?

I like the Groucho's versions:

I'd like to dance with you til the cows come home. On second thought, I'd like to dance with the cows til you come home.

Go and never darken my towels again.

I never forget a face, but in your case, I'll make an exception.

Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

I just took the garbage to the basement, picked up my mail, and found a lovely card in my email.  I do not understand why my left foot is not throbbing all day. No, the damned thing waits until I lie down and inhibits my sleep.  Well, the progress between this Saturday and last is huge, but sadly not huge enough.

I also got a lovely call from one of the DRs asking about my health. I wasn't at my best. I have a hard time with phone calls at the moment: it's painful and slow getting from the bed to the phone, and standing to talk is even worse.

Ankles take a long time to heal.  I'm glad you are doing much better.  I had a badly sprained one that never really healed until I tripped on a poorly marked curb & got a hair-line fracture in it.  The doctor put me in a soft boot that I could adjust with velcrove straps.  Once the fracture healed I still wore the boot, on and off, around the house for years.

Today I looked at one of my apple trees and it was bent over from the weight of the apples.  I don't know that they are really ripe, some are but I had to pick a bunch of them. My little tree was just bending down too far.

Turning 50 doesn't bother me at all, but my mother says she is not old enough to have a son that is 50.

When people ask her how old her children are, she says:  Old enough to be out on their own.      :)

OK - I am really tired. Making mistakes and having to go back and edit almost every post.

That is a sign that it is time for this old boy to head to bed.

Again, many thanks to all!

A suitable birthday sentiment, purportedly from Woody Allen:

“In my next life I want to live my life backwards. You start out dead and get that out of the way. Then you wake up in an old people's home feeling better every day. You get kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension, and then when you start work, you get a gold watch and a party on your first day. You work for 40 years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You party, drink alcohol, and are generally promiscuous, then you are ready for high school. You then go to primary school, you become a kid, you play. You have no responsibilities, you become a baby until you are born. And then you spend your last 9 months floating in luxurious spa-like conditions with central heating and room service on tap, larger quarters every day and then Voila! You finish off as an orgasm!”

I decided to start sprucing up the break room so we can turn it into a second conference room if Bob rents and if he doesn't, it will just look better.  I got a portable kitchen island at Walmart and put it together.  We had open shelves for coffee cups, coffee, tea, plates etc.   Now it's all on shelves in a closed cupboard.  Looks much better.

Listening to what will be the next Kritzerland release.  Seventy-eight minutes of music that I think will be a big surprise to people who've only heard the horribly put together original CD release, which was thirty-five minutes and contained only twenty-six minutes of actual score.

I just took the garbage to the basement, picked up my mail, and found a lovely card in my email.  I do not understand why my left foot is not throbbing all day. No, the damned thing waits until I lie down and inhibits my sleep.

Sounds like you may be suffering from Daniel Day Lewis.  If you start planning a trip to Ford's Theater, give me a call.
