Good morning, all!  I slept well, with one peculiar dream in which I was first book store clerk selling a DVD of a play, and then I was driving a car in the play on the DVD.

This afternoon at 1:00, I'm meeting our DR PennyO for lunch, which will be a nice break from the rut I've been in since August 22, and I look forward to seeing her and catching up.

TOD:
DVD:  several BBC adaptations of the novels of Miss Jane Austen, since I'm all caught up in Bitch In A Bnnet
CD:  Dearest Enemy (please keep them reviews coming!), Sandy's album, OneTouch of Venus, Guy Haines

DR Jane, re: our goodreads totals and reaching our goals. I think my goal is only 110. So I will reach it. But if I increase it and I needed an extra book I would probably add novellas.

Also, while I don't include children's books, I do sometimes read 120 page chapter books with my niece and I include those. There is at least one of those type of books that I really want to read with her.

HEAVEN CAN WAIT has arrived in these here parts.

Yesterday was deliver the box day for us.  We got a sewing machine and a computer.

My mother does alterations for the local JEANS/LEVI shop, so she likes to use the older Kenmore models....when one finally bites the dust, we have to find one on EBAY.  The one we bought yesterday, for $115 including shipping, was in almost new condition and is working fine.  It is from the 1970's and probably hadn't been used a dozen times....  Very nice.

AND since the APPLE G4 had refused to take updates, I purchased a nice 2010 HP all in one computer with Windows 7.  It is NOT a touch screen model....but it has dual processors and a 500 GB  hard drive....and it also works very well.  Got that for $200....so we did fine on our Ebay purchases these last couple of weeks!

A friend of mine wrote a children's book about dinosaurs called "We're Back." The main character was a tyranosaurs rex with big teeth and frightening breath. It was all very funny. But when Spielberg made the animated movie, he was toothless and less frightening than Puff the Magic Dragon. Children stayed away in droves.

Opening night tonight.  Sitting backstage, as I've been doing the past few nights (musicians are behind a scrim) in an attempt to figure out when each scene change, all of which are just horrible, is done.  (No one gets it.  No one.  Which probably makes no sense.  Long story.  Don't ask.  etc.)  But tomorrow night has my name on it so I must make as good a contribution as I can to the proceedings, which means knowing when to play and when to shut up.  And then my work will be done.

But that's what always happens with everything - Crown Books comes along, does what they did, causes the closure of many wonderful bookshops, and then dies.  Circuit City, Rogersound Labs, all of those kinds of businesses - they drive the mom-and-pops into the toilet, but they always, always go out of business and die.

Found a great site last night about barbecue and the blues. Of course, barbecue in these songs is some sort of euphemism for sex. But what great titles: "I Crave My Pig Meat," "Meat Man Pete (Pete, the Dealer in Meat)" and "Who Did You Give My Barbecue To?"

http://www.oldhatrecords.com/cd1008.html

Not quite Das Barbecu, but that'll be listened to later.

HA I hate DNR in my photos.

I don't know, I have heard that DNR has helped solve many, many criminal cases.

I am very happy to find that the Punjabi film JATT BOYS PUTT JATTAN DE has released on DVD this week. The actor whom I had lunch with the other week is the star (along with singer Sippy Gill).

Now, to obtain a copy of it!

Maybe the star can tell you where to find a copy.

Ah yes, residents of my apartment building were quite up in arms when someone began using the leaf blower at 6:45 am the other day. It was universally decided that that was waaaaay too early.
I feel sorry for the employees who will be losing their jobs, but I have no sympathy whatsoever for Blockbuster.

 :P

They drove all the Mama/Poppa video stores out of business, and now they are going down the tubes.

Yes, we have Red Box and Net Flix, there are no video rental stores any more.

 :'(

Sad.  We stopped going to Blockbuster years and years ago.  Locally they went out of business awhile ago and the small store that was here first is still here.  The small store downsized a few years ago to a fraction of the previous size.

I am thinking that Tom Cruise has no dea of what it is like not to be a pampered movie star. Or he has simply lost his mind.

I don't blame him for suing the reporter for making the statement he abandoned his daughter, however, this ridiculous statement really has nothing to do regarding the truth of the reporter's claim.
I'm sure proof of phone calls to his daughter and that he was working on location would be enough.

DNR is also Department of Natural Resources here in Indiana.

So DR JANE you would buy your jeans that fit you and have your length altered....so to speak.  I am surprised that your Levis shop does not do that for you.

I don't actually have a local Levi shop and have to go into stores when I'm traveling.  Even if they offer it I don't have time to accept.  I might ask next time if I find the need for it.  I have had jeans altered on my own but the hem looks different and I don't really like the look.

Reviews for the Book Thief movie are only average. Seems the makers thought moviegoers couldn't take the darkness of the book.

I'm not surprised. It is very dark. I suspect people can handle more darkness in books than on the screen. Film is so graphic.

Congrats on your bargains!
