Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was really pissed. She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!" The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale. Bob has been missing since Friday.

TOD

I had the the box set the Carry On films. Not really the best of the series. I like Carry On… Cleo, Spying, Nurse, Camping, (Was that in the set) Cabbing ( I think that;s the name) Cowboy

There were also Doctor and Doctor Again which I don't thing were in he set. There was also on with Phil Silvers in the foreign Legion that was him in his Sgt Bilko role. There was a tarzan spoof
. there were others but I would have to look them up.

There were also a film version on the TV series On The Buses. As a child there was a very funny sequence that had me rolling in the aisle. Now I am not sure I will find it as funny.

Of course there is Alec Guiness series of comedies. Kind Hearts and Cornets, Our Man In Havana,  The Lavender Hill Mob, The Captain's Paradise, The Lady Killers, The Man in the White Suit

Good morning, all.

Pretty good sleep -- no, actually, quite a good sleep -- or was it a very good one?  In my freshly made bed, of course.  Very was the word o' the day yesterday, so perhaps it was indeed a very one.

Coffee.  Banana.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

Regarding James Dean in GIANT:

The final scene with Dean, in which he is drunk and alone in the banquet hall, was dubbed by Nick Adams after Dean's death.  Perhaps that explains why the scene is "not so hot".

Good morning, all! This morning I've got physical therapy, and that's my day until the Goodspeed event. I very much want to go, but there's a bit of walking to get to the Beaumont at Lincoln Center, and a bit of walking back to a bus stop as well. I'm going to see how things go today before I decide if I'll chance it.

Beyond that, I have very little news.

DR Elmore, splurge for a taxi and enjoy the party!

Taxis are a luxury that I can barely afford at the moment.  The bus is fine; the problem is the walk up the steps at 65th Street to Lincoln Center Plaza and the looooong walk past the pool to the Beaumont. Then more steps from the door to the lobby. And it will be a lot of standing since I recall no chairs in the Beaumont lobby.

DR ChasSmith, thanks for the kind words about the G&D. I don't like the sound of the saxes in "A Woman In Love." If I'd been at the London sessions, i might have rslved them to my satisfaction, but that's the curse of sending work out, not getting to hear a rough mix to comment on it, and being stuck with the final product. The fact that I never got to hear a rough mix is one of the several reasons I stopped working for John Yap.

Could you take the taxi to the Beaumont directly on 65th a few doors in from Amsterdam?

(Are there steps at that end?)

My mom swore by access-a-ride back when she spent time in NYC.  Maybe that's available to you for the future, and now's the time to get it?  Many young people used it too, IIRC, not just over-50.

In one of the many secondary features on the Giant DVD I watched recently, someone said James Dean was not pleased with that scene, either. Dubbed or not, I found it sloppy compared with how good he was early on in the picture.

There were also a few good stories on the scene where he's offered money for the property Luz left him. He didn't want to do the scene because he had nothing to do, or so he thought. Then someone taught him the rope trick and with that, he turned a scene with little dialogue on his part into one in which all eyes are on him throughout.

Not a perfect movie, but a riveting one.

And I would love to see the musical staged. Of course, it has different scenes from the book in it. So, we know, for example, that Uncle Bawley, the character Chill Wills played, is likely gay, which would never have been addressed back when the movie was made.

VIVACIOUS LADY is a terrific little comedy.

TOD:  Far too many to name.  I've got that box set of CARRY ON films.  Many are only intermittently funny and can often be a slog.  CARRY ON, CLEO is my fav if only because of the outrageous Kenneth Williams' line (voted the funniest line ever in Britain):  "Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me."

This is the best of The Carry On movies. Sort of like That's Entertainment!

I saw this in a cinema in a little town in southern Portugal in 1980. I was the only one in the theater laughing. It was in English with subtitles. Most of the jokes didn't translate well I guess

This story on dolphin-assisted births has been making me laugh all afternoon:

The friend who posted it is planning on giving his son-to-be Herring as a middle name. (It's an old family name.) But he said that since dolphins eat herring, his wife won't be using this method. They're going for a platypus-assisted birth.

We are back for a little rest after a lovely midday in Midtown.  We stood at 5th Ave. & 52nd St. And watched some of the Veterans Day parade.  We then went to La Bonne Soupe, one of our favorite places, for a light lunch.  The hostess must have noticed that Richard was wearing his American Legion hat, because the owner visited our table, thanked Richard for his service, and told us we were his guests for lunch.  On our walk home we bought some chocolates for Thanksgiving dinner, MetroCards, and some ground Starbucks coffee to use here in the apartment.  We'll relax a bit before heading to 68th St. for dinner with friends.

Glad to see that DR ELMORE agrees with me about BEING JULIA.  I also agree with DR DRUXY about AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS.....I just can't take it.  Of course I am a David Niven anti-fan.

Not sure I would have given my vote to GIANT over THE TEN COMMANDMENTS....tough race....

For the past few days I've been frequently losing my internet connection. I'm loathe to contact my ISP because when it's happened in the past they automatically assume it's something wrong my end, despite my having made no changes - they then proceed to guide me through various changes to my pc and router which ends up with everything being worse than before I called them. When I haven't contacted them, the internet connection has resumed working normally within a week - which suggests it's a problem their end. So I think I'll sit it out again until, hopefully, the connection gets back to normal.

If you have never read the novel GIANT, I would recommend it highly.  It is one of my favorites.  And it's great to have the movie characters' faces  in mind when you read it.

I believe I'll be taking you up on that one of these days, DR Jrand63.

Okay, this is really weird!  BK's Post #91 is at (according to my computer) 05:45:47 PM and Jane's Post #92 is at 05:13:20 PM.  How can that be?

I had noticed that without looking at the time stamp as I knew I had attempted to post before Bruce did.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,

The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

Perfect.

Love David Niven in the right role, such as "Bluebeard's Eighth Wife" or "The Bishop's Wife." I guess in a supporting role.

This story on dolphin-assisted births has been making me laugh all afternoon:

http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/05/29/dolphin-assisted-births-are-a-thing/#ixzz2kMMp9LI7

The friend who posted it is planning on giving his son-to-be Herring as a middle name. (It's an old family name.) But he said that since dolphins eat herring, his wife won't be using this method. They're going for a platypus-assisted birth.

I'm not sure I even want to look at this.  Are there real dolphins there?

Keith is mowing and said there is a warm breeze out so I shall go for a walk while the good weather lasts.

The hostess must have noticed that Richard was wearing his American Legion hat, because the owner visited our table, thanked Richard for his service, and told us we were his guests for lunch.

NICE!!!

To my knowledge, I've never seen a single one of the "Carry On" films.

My sister and I watched a few on Saturday afternoons when we were growing up in Colorado.  I have no idea which ones we saw, though.  The one title that I remember, but never saw, was "Carry On Up the Khyber."

I saw Michael Price, the Goodspeed producer whom I really love and he was the person I most wanted to see. I also saw one of the actors in 2004 WHERE'S CHARLEY?, Jim Racheff, who wrote the book adaptation for OH, KAY!, my first show at Godspeed, several longterm Goodspeed friends, Sue Frost, Mary Miko, and John Pike, actor Tally Sessions who will be recording ROBERTA in Feb., man-about-town Michael Portantiere, and composer/dance arranger David Krane, who's back from working on the film of INTO THE WOODS. I'm glad I went, and I'm so glad I didn't fall down anywhere!

I'm back from seeing "A.K.A. And I am back from the Goodspeed event. The place was packed so I stayed an hour before leaving.

That's great, Larry! ;D

Head, shoulder, knees, and toes (knees and toes)!

~ ~ ~ VIBES ~ ~ ~ to DR Jennifer!

darn you SingSong!  Now that tune is stuck in my head!  :)

Sort of reminds of

Bend and Stretch, Reach for the Stars.
Here comes Jupitor, there goes Mars.
Bend and Stretch ,Reach for the Sky
standing on tippy toe, Oh so High.

See me walk so straight and tall, I won't let my basket fall,
Eyes ahead, don't look down, keep that basket off the ground

We had a lovely evening at the home of our friends Doug and Jon.  Fabulous home-cooked dinner and great conversation, with nice walks up and down 9th Ave.

I'm sure that it'll be available on DVD soon.  I have two or three of Edisaurus' other movies on DVD. :)
