Hope your day is filled with Bollywood movies!
-
I think that we are supposed to get frigid temperatures later this week. :(
-
Nice pictures in the notes!
-
The smell of turpentine is better but still not good. And I'm very sensitive to smells anyways.
I really hope that i am able to use that computer. Because there are some pictures on it that i really need to use for a calendar today or tomorrow latest. Of course this would happen on the day when i absolutely need to get something off of it. And to get the pictures ready would probably take at least an hour or two. :(
I guess I could do it in shifts if i absolutely had to.
-
Really enjoyed the production photos in today's notes! :)
-
To our very own dear DR MBarnum - may you have a lovely celebration today!!

Happy Birthday to DR MBARNUM!
-
Yes lovely photos in the notes today....everyone looks very festive!
-
Most of the cast of Downton Abbey was on THE VIEW this morning.....but those stupid women couldn't get them off the stage fast enough so reality TV trash Snookie & Jwoww and their boyfriends could come on and talk and talk and talk...
Who watches that crap?
-
DR SINGDAW - whenever I am between jobs or shows - I always count it as vacation time! It's a wonderfully productive way to look at it.....if I was working or rehearsing, I wouldn't have time to do this....
-
I've had SWEENEY TODD from Netflix since before Thanksgiving and finally decided to watch it this morning - maybe I can finish it and have the mailman pick it up today.
-
TOD:
Most of my favorite films of the three stars have been mentioned, so I will add:
Ingrid Bergman: Indiscreet with Mr Cary Grant
Lauren Bacall: Woman's World with Mr Fred MacMurray as her husband
Anthony Perkins: Fear Strikes Out

DR Elmore ... she was "Betsy", right? What a wonderful singer -- and, I presume, actress! :)
-
Oh! Also to DR Elmore (I meant to ask this the other day) --
You spoke of your wonderful get-together with Vincent Lynch, "pianist extraordinaire". Would love to hear the work of anyone earning such a description from you. Can you give a pointer to anything in particular?
-
Happy Birthday, MBarnum!
I just found out that my work's long-time firewalling of this site seems to have expired, so hi to all 3 of you who might remember me from way back in the day.

Vinny seems to be able to do anything with a keyboard, from lead sheets to virtuoso pianistic writing and his ear is amazing. He leaves me gawking at his abilities. When he first received the piano 1 part for ROBERTA, he sent the orchestra manager a text that said something like "have looked over piano part. Holy Mary mother of f@#k!" And it sounds amazing! He also got to ad lib as the stage band pianist, bouncing between what was on the part and ad libbing when asked to do so, never sounding like a lot of flashy current cabaret pianists but sounding right for the period.
-
Happy Birthday, MBarnum!

Welcome back, DR Elan! How's your family?
Thanks, Ginny (and everyone else)!

Good choices, both!

The meeting at which I presided last night was held in the sanctuary of the church where Richard and I were married almost 33 years ago. After the business meeting, the church music director talked about the pipe organ and played a few selections. She said, "Now let's see who recognizes this." Thinking she was going to play a Christmas carol, it took me a minute to realize she was playing "Hail to the Victors" (Michigan fight song). One of my board members, who's in the choir there, had arranged that as a surprise for me. The Ohio State fans in the crowd were not amused - Go, Blue!

I loved this article. As a grown up actress, I've seen her in the campy SHE FELL AMONG THIEVES and Tony Richardson's JOSEPH ANDREWS. Karen's father Roy was a wonderful actor, who had a one-man show about Charles Dickens. I think it was recorded by Caedmon Records.
-
DR John, thank you for sharing the story on your friend.
-
From DR CharlesPogue:
Just as much as I thought all the vitriolic outrage over Carrie Underwood playing Maria was just silly and classless, Carrie's twitter response preaching Jesus at her critics is just as silly and classless. Be a pro, Carrie! Let the comments of internet armchair nerds be ignored as they should.
This make me shake my head and laugh at how ridiculous it all is.
-
Thank you for the birthday wishes DR Sam. Today we picked up my birthday flowers from Bryan. Since they weren't delivered extra flowers were added to the beautiful arrangement.
Moving vibes to you!

Very funny story DR GINNY! LOL....everyone should have such a sense of humor!
Ditto! ;D
-
Welcome back to Elan.
-
I had a quesadilla for lunch, picked up a couple of packages, but none of the overdue ones, and came home. Since one of the packages contained the new blu and ray of Mary Poppins, I popped in Poppins and watched the first hour and ten minutes. I will only say that this transfer is so stunning and magical it's like discovering the film for the first time again. More in the notes.
-
Yes, DR Elmore, I have always thought Karen Dotrice to be one of the most wonderful child actresses around...was she in WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND, as well? I guess I could look that up.
I didn't know she had done anything recently. I got a kick out of her not wanting her kids to think of her as an actress when they were growing up, but that now that they are in their teens and are aware of her past career they think she is sort of a cool mom now! ;D

You're a grownup actress? Wow. What have I seen you in Elmore? ( :) )
-
I also remember that I have not seen MARY POPPINS since, well, probably sometime in the early 1970s. I really should see it again.
-
Schools are still closed, it is still icy out there and an article in the paper begins.....
"A confluence of issues made it hard for the city to clear the streets after Friday's storm".
::)
The county, where we live, didn't do any better. As a result the schools have been closed since Friday.
When we went out today we saw a number of children sledding & snowboarding. I'm sure they were happy school was closed.

I never use my tongue to pick up my hands.

Nope, looks like she was not in WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND. But she should have been.
-
I didn't realize that Matthew Garber, who played the little brother in Mary Poppins died in 1977. Very sad. He was a good little actor also.
-

that was a great interview. Thank you for posting it.
If you want to see a grownup Karen Dotrice, see if you can get the remake of the 39 Steps with her in it. It can't hold a candle to the Hitchcock film, but it is interesting to watch her.
-
Welcome back, Elan, and great news about the baby to be.
-
Loved the production photos this morning, BK.
-
One of the overdue packages arrived about ten minutes after I left the mail place. Just went and retrieved it.
-
I shall be on my way to the theater in about thirty minutes.

Good evening. I was out before dawn again.

Happy Birthday, MBarnum!

I was thinking of opening my jar of peppermint foot cream and holding it near my face.
There are not that many strong smells that don't bother me. I will try it tomorrow. Unfortunately the windows there do not open.
-
The schools are almost never closed here. They are very good about plowing quickly.
-
Late greetings, everyone!
Great pics, BK!
I finally thawed out from Oklahoma's ice storms, and now from the last two frigid days here. Happy that things warmed a bit today. I hope everyone is staying safe and warm.
-
Hi DR ryacko. We need some sun to melt our ice. I am hoping it is better tomorrow morning.

I hope it works for you. I wouldn't think you would need too much, maybe put a dab under your nose while you use the computer.

I just watched "Six By Sondheim," thanks to HBO on Demand, andI liked much of it. Hated whoever it was doing "I'm Still Here," and the clip fem PASSION reminded me how much I disliked it. I also didn't like the various singers singing "Send In The Clowns": too many different keys and too many bad performances.
I did love the clip of Dean Jones recording "Being Alive" from the Pennebaker documentary and "Sunday," which brought back a flood of memories: the original workshop and the cut songs, the changes during the Broadway previews, and the Pulitzer madness of May 1985, in which I was a very proud participant.
-
So a friend and I drove around some farm fields, and we saw a flock of crested caracaras -- a life bird for me. It was waaaay off in the field and the skies were gray and cloudy today. Terrible light.

The schools are almost never closed here. They are very good about plowing quickly.
Cities used to major storms usually do better with the clean up. Ashland has four mild seasons and rarely gets hit this hard. Usually we have a lot more snow than in town. Also it is rarely this cold after a snowfall and the ice melts sooner. Still, I remember more plowing and sand or salting than this year. We didn't go all the way into town so it might be different there but we didn't see any sidewalks shoveled.
-
So a friend and I drove around some farm fields, and we saw a flock of crested caracaras -- a life bird for me. It was waaaay off in the field and the skies were gray and cloudy today. Terrible light.

How cool. Not as much fun as your photo, however it is a close-up I found on the internet.

They were very skittish and flew away.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR MBarnum!! :D
-
I had photos of them flying, must have been a beautiful sight.
-
Today has definitely been a day...and it's not over. I have been at work furiously working away, paying last minute invoices (we don't have enough!! :o ) and having meetings. Now, I need to finish up here and go to the Theater Artists Olympia monthly board meeting. I put together some financial information for the TAO/Animal Fire Theatre production of "American Roulette," but I probably didn't do everything that I need to do for it, but I'm sure it's fine for tonight...hopefully.
-
After that, I'm going to go home and go to sleep! I stayed up much, Much, MUCH (that's three muches) too late compiling this TAO report, and pretty much just took a 3 hour nap before having to come to work. Why do I do this to myself?? I'll probably never learn. Oh, well.
-
Before the TAO board meeting, I'm going to try and ketchup on today's posts. :)
-
But before I do...
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
Nice pictures in the notes!
Yes, they were great!
-
Continuing no-firewall vibes to Elan!
~~~Ditto!!~~~
-
Well, I got up to the top of Page 4, but I must leave now.
Be back later!
The smell of turpentine is better but still not good. And I'm very sensitive to smells anyways.
I really hope that i am able to use that computer. Because there are some pictures on it that i really need to use for a calendar today or tomorrow latest. Of course this would happen on the day when i absolutely need to get something off of it. And to get the pictures ready would probably take at least an hour or two. :(
I guess I could do it in shifts if i absolutely had to.
Oh wow! Sorry about the smell, but I totally forgot I still have a bunch of calendar kits. I can make calendars for Christmas. I don't have a lot of photos from this year, but hmmmm that would be a great idea for mom!
I hate my high efficiency washer. It has ruined some piece of clothing almost every time I use it and when I put everything on light or low it doesn't even get the whole piece of clothing wet so it comes out dirty. I wish I would have just gotten a new washer with an agitator. I never ruined any clothes in 34 years of using one.
-
Happy Birthday MBarnum!!!!
-
I watched Six by Sondheim last night and really enjoyed it
-
I also watched part two of Bonnie and Clyde. It wasn't the best movie, but it did stick to the real story which was refreshing
-
They were very skittish and flew away.
But he was lovely.
-
So my last load of laundry is all the stuff that I've already washed but they came out of the washer just as dirty as they went in thanks to this stupid piece of crap modern technology they claim is a washing machine
I stopped going to the trial after Friday morning. I don't think it's going very well for my friend. She was cross examined for 5 hours yesterday. From what I read in the paper, not so sure it's good.
I didn't realize that Matthew Garber, who played the little brother in Mary Poppins died in 1977. Very sad. He was a good little actor also.
Poor Victor Garber. Bing has Victor's picture under the headline Matthew Garber Dead.
My addition to the name of today's discussion..... This is for tonight and tomorrow morning
SIOUX CITY | A wind child advisory for Wednesday means morning temperatures will dip to between minus 20 and minus 25.
The National Weather Service advisory is in effect from 3 to 10 a.m.
After a lull in wind speeds Tuesday, winds will again increase to between 15 and 25 mph overnight, producing bitterly cold wind chills along with patching blowing and drifting snow.
-
Time to go upstairs....night
-
And sleep.
Goodnight everyone.
Sweet dreams.
:)
You, too, Sam.
Good night, all.
Back from the put-in rehearsal, which was fine, and a stop at Gelson's for a snack.
