I enjoy the BIG awards shows....The Academy Awards, The Emmy Awards, and the Tony Awards.

I am always irritated by the ersatz awards such as The American Music Awards, The Country Music Awards - awards that were created basically so that someone could have a television show....

The Grammy Awards are strange, too, in that they always change the categories around and add stuff that is of the moment and will be forgotten in a year or two.....although sometimes the categories hang on.....
Title: Re: THE HAINSIE AWARDS
Post by: Michael on December 28, 2013, 04:38:53 AM
I'll start a rant on award shows.

The American Music Awards was created by ABC because CBS has the Grammy Awards.

People Choices awards where the winner knows they won ahead of time and you knew who the "winner" was because the other nominees in the category were never in the audience or if they weren't there the filmed their acceptance ahead of time.

The Golden Globe Awards have 90 members who vote for all the awards and usually honor the person who gave the best interview or who was the friendliest.  The best film or tv show is usually won by which producers served the best champagne and caviar at the dinner party where the filmed was shown. Come on now Pia Zadora was the best new actress the year she won? After that fiasco the Globes discontinued that award and was off network tv for many years.

MTV awards has become a parody unto itself.

At one time The Tony Awards where a great show before they went to Radio City Music Hall. I blame Rosie O'Donnel  for that one. Remember the year where they paid tribute to Sondheim, Kander and Ebb and Herman all in one year?  Or when the show was at the Majestic theater they paid tribute to all the musicals that played at the theater. The three hour (or so) show has almost 60 minutes worth of commercials!

I could go on…..

Good morning, all! I was in bed by 9:15 and stayed there until 8:00 this morning. It was cold, I was tired, and I slept rathe well. I did have lots of bizarre dreams, the last being a very long one about working in Barnes & Noble, driving to Dayton OH for an interview to sell toilets and plumbing fixtures - really! - and getting back to B&N and replacing light bulbs during the Christmas rush. While I remember no others, I do recall on my walk to the bathroom around 4am, what a weir dream! So, I guess the others were equally strange.

I will shortly head to the laundromat: I need to wash a comforter that is dusty and in need of a cleaning. While that's washing, I will take four packages to the post office and send them out, return, put the comforter into the dryer, and return home. At least, that's the current plan.

Excelsior!

More coffee!

Good morning, all.

Two (2) bizarre dreams here -- one in the middle of the night from which I woke and stayed awake for a few minutes (so I know that's when it was), the other this morning before I got up at around 8:00 -- both of them concerning me being among a bunch of people gathered for some event like a wedding for which we needed to get into our tuxes and other formal wear and observe certain formalities or rituals throughout the day......

Just bizarre.

I did have to wear my tux for those Christmas concerts two weeks ago, but that's nothing unusual.  This was more like a foreshadowing of something coming up, and I swear to God there's nothing coming up.  Oy!

Coffee!  (Starbucks Breakfast Blend)

I am home from the post office. It's too chilly to deal with laundry this morning.  It's supposed to be a high of 51 today, but I'm seriously doubting it. Looks like Monday after physical therapy will be the laundry date for the bedding.

I agree that any excuse for an HHW gathering is good!

If it's like the usual York readings, it will be in the late afternoon around 3:00. Then we could all head for a nice restaurant and par-tay!  I'll be ready for a drink!

Jane, have you tried Sambucol for colds? It's for flu, too. My acupuncturist swears by it, says it kept her healthy last winter when she saw so many patients who were sick. I like it, too--no side effects. Easy to take, it dissolves in your mouth.

Hope you're feeling better.

Good-health vibes to all!

Larry, I forgot to add my congrats on the possible Holler reading. I hope it happens so we can trek on over to York and see and hear your music! It will be an excuse for an HHW get together.

I agree that any excuse for an HHW gathering is good!

If it's like the usual York readings, it will be in the late afternoon around 3:00. Then we could all head for a nice restaurant and par-tay!  I'll be ready for a drink!

We're thinking of heading to NYC after our nephew's wedding in Philadelphia, so could you schedule it for the first week of April, please  :-*

Because the Michigan game doesn't even start here until 10:15pm, I have already told Fr. Richard that I'm not going to Lima tomorrow.  I will stay home and get the desserts ready to take to a Palmer family gathering tomorrow evening at DN Lauren's home.

Go, Blue!

I will be able to hear the fireworks when anyone scores from my house.

I didn't even know anyone from your house was playing!

Great presents. Did they each know that the other one had gotten you tickets?

no -  we exchange with the rest of the family on  Christmas Eve and then  the Vixfamily exchange gifts on Christmas morning  -- Vixdada was quite anxious to know the date  of the tickets and seemed much happier when I  told the date   the next morning I knew why!

Good evening!   We had a high temp of 62 three hours later it 37 degrees with 41 mph winds.  We all knew it was coming so today people were buzzing around like crazy, washing cars going to parks doing everything they could outside.   I checked my tire pressure, vacuumed out the car and ran errands.

I slept for 10 hours last night which was wonderful  But, I had a really disturbing dream about staying at a hotel and a gunman came into the lobby/restaurant and started shooting people.  I was in my room and didn't see it, but heard it. There was a police man outside my door and told me to leave the building, so I did.   I went back later to get the cats (don't know why they were staying at the hotel with me) and they had already cleaned up and Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel was polishing the floor with a Zamboni. I couldn't find Boo in my dream, but was very glad to see her when I woke up.

TOD:  I watch the Tonys, the Golden Globes and the Oscars, that's about it.  If I'm bored and there's a show on, I may watch, but usually not.

I really don't take any of the shows seriously.  I don't think they really decide what is best, but I have seen a lot of movies that I wouldn't have known about if it wasn't for the nomination.  And some of the smaller films or indie films that get nominations probably wouldn't have been in the theater here without the nomination.

BK  I wonder if seeing a film in a theatre as a opposed to at home changes your experience of the film

I'm sure Gravity was impressive in the theaters - I don't believe it was actually shot in 3-D, though - I think it was converted in post production.  But for me the bottom line is the story and presentation, and I found the story not that original although the presentation was excellent even watching at home.

I saw a 4K 65-inch TV today - they have 4K demo stuff playing and it's stunning - you can walk right up to the set and stand nose to nose with it and not lose any quality or definition - I've never seen that before.  Colors are stunning, but one wonders how much better Blu-rays can look unconverted on this TV - color will probably be more accurate, of course, but since there is very little actual 4K product, it's probably too soon to even think about investing in something like this.

I'm back from seeing "A Stardust Christmas Blizzard."  I ended up working concessions because a couple of volunteers backed out at the last minute.  It wasn't too bad, except that all their prices are different than at the Washington Center.  That was the hardest part...just keeping track of their prices, and not what I'm used to.  There was a steady flow, but we got everyone served.

The show itself was pretty good.  It's simply about a bunch of people who work at the fictitious Stardust Club in Greenwich Village in 1957.  They're stuck at the club in a blizzard (hence the title) on Christmas eve.  They entertain themselves, they discover (and reveal) hidden feelings for each other and a good time was had by all.
