Well, you've read the notes, you know what the fun thing that happened in 2013 was, and now it is time for you to post until the fun cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: IMBRICATE!
-
And a happy haineshisway.com birthday to former dear reader Maya - she hasn't been with us for many years - she was a young'un when she joined us and just faded away, but so bright and charming. If anyone knows where she is tell her to get her butt cheeks back here.

Watch this incredible musical number with Bob Fosse and Tommy Rall - watch the way it's shot. And then imagine how it would be shot and edited by one of today's movie directors - take note especially of the rather astonishing and impossible turn that Mr. Rall does towards the end - today, these "directors" would do ten edits within that astonishing turn, as if that somehow would make it more exciting than watching someone actually DOING the thing. We'd also have many shots of feet and closeups and there would be no camera design - just six cameras set up so that the number can be made in the editing room. But sorry "directors" - THIS is the way to shoot a musical number, and none of your hipster crap can make it one iota more exciting than just putting the camera down and letting two unbelievable dancers do a well choreographed number. The End.

BK, I loved the skit in the Donny & Marie show where Cindy is auditioning for the disaster movie and she does the pull-the-chair-up-to-the-desk bit that you also did in "The First Nudie Musical." It may not be original, but it still makes me laugh. ;D

Wow. Thanks for sharing that - I had never seen it.
-
The British Arrows were interesting. Not really what I had expected. It's a compilation of award-winning British television advertisements. There were the usual funny ones that I was expecting, but a lot of serious/social issue ones as well - some of which were very difficult to watch.
-
Regarding that Donny & Marie special:
bk, I do declare - your waist appears to have been smaller than Scarlett O'Hara's!

Good morning. I do not want to go to church this morning.

Good morning, all! I am heading down to Toyland this morning. I haven't been there in nearly two weeks, so I'm due for a visit to check out the place, and drop off some paper.
DR TCB, the York Theatre Co. is in the basement of St Peter's Church at Lexington Avenue and 53rd Street.
I tried to watch all of "My Sister Eileen" abut a month ago. Some great dancing and some good performances, but I kept wishing I were watching "Wonderful Town."

For last night's Fireworks - Katy Perry live FIREWORK dance

Why one Firework rather than many I've never quite gotten - but it sings better, i suppose. ??

"Do you ever feel like a plastic bag" is one of the more odd, yet unique (or is it and unique), starts to a pop mega-hit that i can imagine.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. I saw it on Facebook and mention it there. Although I didn't mention what the business was I wanted to see if anyone else noticed it. :-)

Good morning to all
-
As the year draws to a close I have started casting for the reading of The Normal Heart. My idea of using local celebrities to read some of the cameo roles has fallen through I am now looking for actors to audition for the parts.
-
Good morning, all.
Had at least one crazy dream that I can't bring into focus.
Coffee!

Page one? Really?
-
We, too, enjoyed the Hamlisch documentary on PBS.
-
I thought A FISTFUL OF DOLLARES was the first film; followed by A FEW DOLLARS MORE, and then THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY.
-
I always hoped that Leone would have gone on to make lasagna Westerns. They could have been saucier, but probably cheesier.
-
My goodness. Watching that dance, I'm wondering if I ever saw MY SISTER EILEEN all the way through. Must have as a kid, but I sure don't remember much of it.
I liked that piece of dance music, but can well understand eventually wanting the movie to be WONDERFUL TOWN instead.
-
Greetings from Toyland!
-
The first time I remember seeing Bob Fosse was in the film version of DAMN YANKEES doing "Who's Got the Pain." I thought it was good, but it didn't seem to fit with the rest of the film. I kept wondering, "Where did this guy come from?"

One more.

I liked seeing the DONNY & MARIE SHOW, especially MR BK's segments....that show certainly followed the everything-but-the-kitchen-formula.....even Charley Pride singing "Nobody"....

Good morning.

BK,
Continuing our "discussion" from yesterday:
1. I said that we enjoyed THE BUTLER. I didn't say it was perfect. The script lost its way at times and, from a dramatic standpoint, it should have ended 10 minutes before it did.
2. I think that PRISONERS is a terrific thriller. It's right up there with MYSTIC RIVER, SEVEN and ZODIAC.
Obviously, we enjoy different kinds of films.
Does that make either one of us wrong or a bad person?
:)

Hello All and Happy New Year! It's that time again....our year end special on the Broadway Radio Show.....you'll hear me countdown my picks for the Top Ten Cast Recordings of 2013 along with a few fun extras......give it a listen and let me know your choices for your favorites from the past year!

Sunday morning greetings! Disappointing showings from both college football teams we watched yesterday, but it was fun to be with Rob and Mary Linda for the Belk Bowl and to go out for Mexican food for dinner. Stayed up for the entire Michigan game, but fell asleep during the 3rd quarter. When I woke up, it was in the last 3 minutes and Kansas State had just pulled ahead by 24 points. I went to bed without even seeing them kick the extra point and, apparently, missed Michigan's only touchdown and 2-point conversion. Too little, way too late...
-
Anyway, as planned, I slept in this morning and have baked an apple pie and decorated the shortbread cut-outs that I made yesterday. We'll add a half-gallon of vanilla frozen yogurt and that's our dessert contribution to DN Lauren's Palmer family holiday gathering this evening.
-
I have received a copy of the Bernard Herrmann CHRISTMAS CAROL and A CHILD IS BORN, which I did not order (but I truly love). Would anyone here like to take responsibility for this gift?
-
Last night I remembered I had a two-DVD set from 2008 that includes both THE UNDEFEATED and NORTH TO ALASKA.
I watched THE UNDEFEATED which I haven't seen since we saw it at the drive in over 40 years ago. It's a fun movie....and Wayne and Hudson are really great together..... NORTH TO ALASKA is a special favorite, so I will save it for another evening this week.
-
The CD is great!!!! Thanks to Kritzerland for its release!
-
Greetings from Buffalo/Niagara International Airport. I'm hoping the rain will hold out till after the flight takes off. I don't think I'll be lucky in that regard when approaching Baltimore, though. When I checked earlier there was a 100% chance of rain in the early afternoon.
-
Can't wave as I'm flying over Ohio, DR Ginny, since I don't think we'll be doing that!
-
Loved the Donny and Marie show, BK. You were a child then!
-
I took the morning off church, for many reasons - all of which I don't need to re-hash here. So the DD and I went to the nearby donut place and brought my mom and sister and brother-in-law breakfast and we walked over there and had an impromptu Sunday breakfast. I wish I could do that every Sunday.
Tomorrow, it's off to Disneyland at 6:00am. Get me the hell out of this place!
-
Can't wave as I'm flying over Ohio, DR Ginny, since I don't think we'll be doing that!
LOL - if you could wave over Ohio, you'd be way off course, DR KevinH! Have a smooth flight!
-
I stayed longer than I intended. Time to close down Toyland and head home.,
-
Been a weirdly quiet Sunday here. Not unpleasant, and I did get a few things done that were on my list. Have to decide on a good thing or two to watch this evening.
-
I'm up after a great night's sleep. Stayed in bed till the heat worked a little. Will go out for something to eat soon.
-
TCB, Fistful was the first of the Leone westerns.
-
Druxy, no, neither of us is wrong, although I'm right :) It's what makes horse racing, of course. You like what you like and I dislike what I dislike and never the Mark Twain shall meet.
-
When I watched the Donny and Marie sketch, which I don't think I'd really seen since we did it, I only remembered the accent bit. Had no memory of "borrowing" the chair bit, but since no one had seen Nudie Musical outside of a few FANatics at that point, and since the Donny and Marie audience would never be seeing it, we obviously thought it was okay to steal from ourselves :) My memory of that first show is that they wrote something for us that we didn't like so I quickly came up with that sketch.
-
Yesterday I picked up that 2-disc NBC "Sound of Music" CD at Walmart, and am delighted to find that the bonus disc of orchestral tracks is really just that, no dumbing-down nonsense added to help people "sing along". What a pleasure to get a closer listen to what seems to be pretty much the film orchestrations --something I haven't sat down and compared and tried to figure out in detail yet. Too bad it's only the nine "main" songs. But hey, we take what we can get.
-
The Donny and Marie sketches are a treasure, not only for seeing BK and CW doing what they did so well, but as yet another time capsule view of how amazing mainstream TV used to be.
-
Okay, I guess I need to order that copy of FISTFUL. I've only ever seen the US DVDs and Blu-rays. I'm sad I never went to these when they first played.
BK, is this one from the UK or Italy or what?
-
I guess I'd also be well served finally getting around to watching YOJIMBO, which I do have here.
-
We seem to be having a little Page Two problem here ..... namely, that we're on it.
-
Three!
There. That's better.

I'm thinking of moving to Chicago. Any thoughts?
-
Sat down to eat a turkey sandwich and caught the Marvin Hamlisch special, already in progress. I loved what I saw and will make a real effort now to see the whole program.

I'm thinking of moving to Chicago. Any thoughts?
How much do you like winter?
-
Hello Everyone:
Sorry, I haven't been posting lately. I was too busy entertaining my brother Kevin (LOL)
-
I want to wish everyone happy belated holidays and a most blessed and healthy New Year.!
-
BK, I was wondering how far along you are in your new book?
-
Goodbye for now :) ;) :D
-
I'm thinking of moving to Chicago. Any thoughts?
I lived in Schaumburg (NW suburbs) for a year and half in 1985-86, got into town as often as I could, and fell in love with the whole place.
-
Prayers to brother Kevin for a safe trip home!!!! :) :) :)
-
I'm thinking of moving to Chicago. Any thoughts?
I love Chicago but as Ginny said, how much do you like/love winter? It can be a bitch in January and February. Also, Chicago the city can have parking challenges if you have a car and you don't have a garage in which to put your car.
-
Hey, Kevin, it's pleuing (Franglais for raining) like crazy in New York City. I hope it's not doing that for you as you head home.
-
You know, we're always hearing from DR KevinH on how he's shuffling off to Buffalo, but we have yet to see a video actually showing it.
-
Kidding aside, DR Matthew, I love Chicago! Never lived there, but I've been there many times. Great art museum and one of the best public libraries in the country.
-
Thanks everyone. I'm getting a lot of opinions about the weather, etc. I guess it's something to see if I can actually live through a winter in Chicago.
-
I walked out of Toyland and into a torrential downpour. I got home completely soaked and jumped into a really hot bath. I feel great.
I've got a Trumpet 4 part to work on.
-
~ ~ ~ SAFE & PLEASANT TRAVEL VIBES ~ ~ ~ for DR Kevin!
-
DR Matthew -
Regarding your potential move to Chicago... What kind of a support network do you have in place (do you already know people there? do you have leads on work once you get there?) Also, have you investigated housing options (how close to downtown can you get for your budget, etc.? Also, don't forget to factor in a major budget factor: how much it will cost to transport your stuff. Not trying to be negative, just practical, having just gone through a major move myself.
-
The DH just dropped his smartphone and cracked the screen. I forsee a trip to BestBuy this afternoon. Fortunately, he has insurance protection. The case apparently needs to be upgraded, as well. :P

Druxy, no, neither of us is wrong, although I'm right :) It's what makes horse racing, of course. You like what you like and I dislike what I dislike and never the Mark Twain shall meet.

How much do you like winter?
My first thought, too.
And no Disney nearby.
-
I want to wish everyone happy belated holidays and a most blessed and healthy New Year.!
Same to you, Kate.
-
Started watching "On Borrowed Time" with Lionel Barrymore doing a happy version of his Mr. Potter. Very stagey, but I like it.

LOL DR John G. However, closer to NYC and a shorter plane ride to Walt Disney World!
-
ChasSmith, be sure to get the one from Italy - the German version, which uses the same transfer, is not nearly as well authored.

I haven't been outside all day, except to step out and get the newspaper. It is COLD
-
It's 6 right now, much warmer than many places around here. But we're headed back below zero.

Hey! I turned the page

Got all the bills paid for home and office today. It's always a relief to get that done. Especially after taking a week off

Congrats, Mike!

On a fluffier level, Carly Rae Jepsen (she of the hilarious gay-friendly CALL ME MAYBE smash hit song) will join Fran Drescher in CINDERELLA on Broadway.
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/12/29/new-role-for-carly-rae-jepsen-cinderella/
which should be a great combo for getting the gay audience back to the show, besides the young women.

Hey, Kevin, it's pleuing (Franglais for raining) like crazy in New York City. I hope it's not doing that for you as you head home.
Ben--no rain at all on my drive home from the airport, I'm happy to say. Apparently there was quite a bit of rain earlier today.

I agree!

Well, I need to take a shower and go visit my friend Margo. She needs me to feed her cats later this week and I need to get the details. When I get back, I need to do some laundry, take out the trash and some other stuff that I can't think of, but I will.
Be back later!
-
Time to bake some little pies with my new individual pie pans and to heat up the kitchen!
I got some of those recently. Let me know how easy they are to eat out of or get your pie out of.
-
woke up late AGAIN three weeks in a row but I managed to get coffee hour set up in time to make it into the 9 AM service act as communion assistant and pop back out to serve coffee, then got sit and relax and chat with some of the ladies about Christmas until the next service ended and the next coffee rush came along,
Then cleaned up the kitchen cleaned up communion in the chapel and the church and finally headed home around 1

Congrats, DR Mike, and break many legs!

Vixdad and I decided to go and see the Hobbit part II in 3D and IMAX we are both fans of the book and also of the two radio plays - one by the BBC and one by the a (I believe) Seattle based group called the Minds Eye so we were quite surprised by various additions to the story-
-
There is a part of the story that was true to the book that involves giant creatures that I fear - i had to hide my face in Vixdad's chest for most of that part - I did chance to look up at an unfortunate moment when a 3 D creature appeared to be inches from me I let out a scream that frightened everyone in three rows around me and hid my face until Vixdad told me it was safe

Mine are pampered chef. I followed the apple streusel recipe that came with them. I need to play with the cooking time a little and the recipe, but as the other five are cooling, I popped one right out of the pan. It tasted better than I thought it would

Trying hard not to write tonight. But I got a few hundred words written.

I think if my apples had been a bit juicier it would have been better, but the taste is good and it's kind of nice to have single servings.....but I want another one, lol

Page 4? Seriously?

No,
Page Five!

Most impressive, Mike. Break a leg!

That's the inherent evil of those "single" serving sizes. They're really half a single serving, especially when the dessert is good.

I laughed.

We are back from a nice family gathering hosted by DN Lauren and her fiance Jim in their new (to them) home. Lauren's sisters were both there, along with their husbands and the 3 children of one of them. Rob and Mary Linda, too, and Lauren's mom. Oh, and Gunnar the chocolate lab and Ariel the cat - ah-choo!

I like the way you think :)
-
Page five? Really?
-
I finally watched more of The Sound of Music Live, but I'm afraid I can't give it much more of my time. I think the whole thing, including Miss Underwood, could have been fine if there was an actual director in attendance. The one that WAS in attendance is, for me, as bad as it gets - I have seen any number of shows he's done and he is dreadful every time. These poor actors were left hanging out to dry, especially Miss Underwood.
-
Frances Ha came in at the library today. Love the black and white photography. I just hope it's not as twee as the first few minutes are.
-
Wow...'GMA' anchor Robin Roberts publicly acknowledges she's gay (http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/29/showbiz/robin-roberts-comes-out/index.html?hpt=hp_t2)!

I didn't know it was a secret.

I thought that was a secret.

Vixmom, do you get New Year's Eve off?

Lol, so did I. We have friends that asked to stay at the house which worked for us. Now we don't have to worry about the pipes freezing.

Vixmom, do you get New Year's Eve off?
Nope I gotta work - I am hoping to be let go early though.... the Vixter has to work so Vixdad and I plan to tak emy folks out for an early dinner at the Vixter's restaurant

Yes, on a boat in the harbor. :)
Not only is this city known for thefirst and best fireworks every year, they have an earlier family show at 9:00. :) :)
-
Speaking of the Vixter - she called from her second job to say that she had lost the steering on her way to work from her first job (Sundays are busy - church followed by a 5 hour shift at the restaurant followed by a 5 hour shift at church)
fortunately she arrived safely - Vixdad went up there and the serpentine belt had fallen off - he manhandled the car to the local shop and we followed in his car- ah just what we needed 2 days before college tuition payment is due and 2 weeks before car insurance payment is due... another expensive car repair

Is that really where you are spending New Years? How exciting!
Yes, on a boat in the harbor. :)
Not only is this city known for thefirst and best fireworks every year, they have an earlier family show at 9:00. :) :)
Wow that is a trip we have always hoped to make ... ah well maybe someday...for the meantime I will enjoy it vicariously through your pictures; please post plenty!
-
Vixmom, do you get New Year's Eve off?
Nope I gotta work - I am hoping to be let go early though.... the Vixter has to work so Vixdad and I plan to tak emy folks out for an early dinner at the Vixter's restaurant
That sounds nice.
I hope so we are hoping the place won't be crammed early on

Well, Frances Ha is proving to be Frances Nah to me. It is irritating, despite a very good lead performance. I don't like whiny people, no matter the age, so a whiny millennial is just another whiny person. I did like Charlotte d'Amboise, though.

Wow...'GMA' anchor Robin Roberts publicly acknowledges she's gay (http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/29/showbiz/robin-roberts-comes-out/index.html?hpt=hp_t2)!
Good for her!
I didn't know it was a secret.
I had no clew.

Keith justurprised me and put a photo on facebook. Neither of us can transfer it over if. Dr George fill free to do so. It is the photo that says "Guess where we are for New Years Eve"

Well done, Sir! Well done!

So, call me surprised: The ending worked. Very well. I didn't like the journey, but I enjoyed where it led.

And with that, good night.
-
G'night!
-
I just finished watching "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal." Now, I'm going to watch and record to my DVD burner tonight's "The Kennedy Center Honors."
-
nearly 1 Am time to gotobed
good night all
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Now listening to music.
-
I'm watching the Kennedy Center Honors (I'm about 40 minutes behind the actual broadcast) and Karen Olivo is on the Shirley MacLaine segment. I thought that she had retired from performing.
-
I did laundry today and then did a phone interview with one of my favorite Bollywood actors. It was a good Sunday!
-
Anna Kendrick is in the segment, also. This is the first time that I've seen her where (to me) she actually looks like she's an adult. She's always looked like a little kid to me.
-
I wish the person who did the segment would retire, because I am so very weary of his work. And yes, the same gentleman who did The Sound of Music. Enough already.
-
And I get a paycheck in a few days, which will make it a good week.
-
Such a nice snapshot of DR Jane and Keith!
-
DR Vixmom, sorry to hear about the upcoming car expenses.
-
Sutton Foster and Patina Miller were also featured in Shirley's segment.
-
And I get a paycheck in a few days, which will make it a good week.
Don't you love it when that happens?? I get paid on Tuesday...not soon enough, if you ask me.
;)

I'm thinking of moving to Chicago. Any thoughts?
As Billy Flynn, or as a member of the orchestra?
Sorry, Matthew, I know that isn't funny.
Sorry TCB - I missed it, and it was quite funny :) I'd have to say a member of the Orchestra, as I would never be able to be a lawyer
