Well, you've read the notes, the notes had adventures and plumbing, and now it is time for you to post until the adventurous cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: IGNOMINY!
-
I love "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile," also. I was in a local production of Annie almost 20 years ago. I played Fred McCracken and his dummy Wacky, along with probably four or five other characters. I know I had seven costume changes. It was a lot of fun and several people that I met doing that show are still very good friends of mine. :)
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning.
My plumber for many years lives two doors down. So very handy!
-
Happy Friday, People!
-
good morning to all
-
from yesterday
DR TCB Said
Sharry also gave me several gifts. The highlight is THE DEAD CELEBRITIES COOK BOOK.

No time to watch movies this weekend
-
Good morning, all.
Oy! Who knew I was going to awaken to a solid white world today? Just an inch of snow, but...solid, man. Serves me right for being complacent and not checking weather yesterday since I knew we were on this warming trend and tomorrow it will be 55. Sheesh.
Let's see if the driveway clears itself. That would be the ticket.
Coffee!
-
Please, no cracks about BK's plumber.
-
And no groaning at haineshisway.com.
-
It's amazing the weather difference between CT and NY when we are so close. We have no snow at all. It's only 32 but nothing other than haze. It's supposed to get up to 42 and then tomorrow we are supposed to have rain and near 60 degrees.
-
Morning, all!
bk: Please send Terri White my fondest regards. Hopefully, she still remembers me as the goofy Jewish kid at Rose's Turn from way back in the day. Is this a working lunch (he asked hopefully)?
I just realized that "You're Never Fully Dressed" is missing from the Hebrew cast recording of Annie. No wonder I don't like it so much.
TOD:
Ye olde iPod: the aforementioned Israeli cast recording of Annie
DVD drive: Bill Cosby, "Far From Finished" (even at 70% of his best, which I think he is here, the man is brilliant)
Bus reading:"The Student's Obligation" (early 20th-century work from the last chassidic rabbi of the Warsaw ghetto)
-
Good morning, all! I got depressed about my current financial state, taxes, the IRS, and my life, and did not want to get out of bed this morning. I am bathed, dressed, and on my second cup of coffee.
The good news today is that the recording schedule for Feb 23-26 is now confirmed and I can freeze the recording schedule. The bad news is that I have to call my accountant, schedule my tax appointment, and ponder how to financially survive for the next couple of months.
I believe I am having lunch with Robert Kimball today, but I haven't heard from him. I must email him now.
-
I have played Frid (the butler) in a production of Annie. It was fun. However, the moppets (girls) often fouled up some of my laughs by not following their blocking consistently.
-
I played one of the homeless people and someone else in ANNIE, I don't remember what.....but yes DR SINGDAW the orphans don't follow any blocking.....and some of them like to stand on stage and look at their parents in the audience....
-
I Blew Up, and I Don't Care - I think that is the working title of Mitzi Gaynor's autobiography.
-
Mitzi told that story that soon after she and her husband were married, they honeymooned in New York. Ethel Merman, of course, was doing a show on Broadway. They had gotten along famously when they made "There's No Business Like Show Business" a few years earlier. Ethel called her up and invited her to the show.
Mitzi: Well, gee, Mom, we're here on our honeymoon.
Ethel: Well for chrissakes can't you stop for a minute and get out of the hotel?
-
I have three of my four scenes memorized...of course they are the SHORTEST ones.
-
TOD:
I received a review copy of Criterion's IT'S A MAD (4) WORLD this week, and I'm anxious to view the restored roadshow version. So, that's what I'll probably watch.
-
Good morning, all.
Great Mitzi/Ethel story, JRand. Memorization vibes for the rest of your part.
-
I have three of my four scenes memorized...of course they are the SHORTEST ones.
But they are memorized!
-
Well, ignore my previous post. We have snow in Manhattan. It will be gone by tomorrow or Sunday due to the temperatures, but we have it nonetheless.
-
I have played Frid (the butler) in a production of Annie. It was fun. However, the moppets (girls) often fouled up some of my laughs by not following their blocking consistently.
Now, if you interpolated "Silly People" (Frid's cut song from Night Music, but you all knew that already, right?) into the show, that would make things interesting! :)

CD: Lots and lots.
DVD: On a whim, I took the Val Lewton box off the shelf last night and watched I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE and part of THE SEVENTH VICTIM.

Thanks DR JOHN G - yes DR ELMORE....there is THAT!
-
Well thanks to DR ELMORE, I'm not hungry anymore.
-
Well thanks to DR ELMORE, I'm not hungry anymore.
Not even some Perfection Salad for you, DR Jrand63?
-
BTW, DR JRand63, following upon yesterday's little discussion: About how large is your collection of movies? What are we talking here, ballpark?
-
Probably about 900 or so.....with 300 or so to still yet put into the notebooks.
-
Friday morning greetings! It's very melty here in SW Ohio after a little fresh snowfall last night. After a couple of busy days, I'm taking it slow this morning.
-
Well thanks to DR ELMORE, I'm not hungry anymore.
LOL!
-
Now, if you interpolated "Silly People" (Frid's cut song from Night Music, but you all knew that already, right?) into the show, that would make things interesting! :)
It certainly would! And it also brings to light that my memory is faulty; the butler in Annie is Drake. Frid belongs solely to A Little Night Music. :P
-
They're saying on CNN there could be criminal charges in that New Jersey traffic scandal.
-
Which is a better part - Drake or Frid

-
The original lyric in ANNIE was
When you wake, ring for Drake
Drake will bring your tray
When you're through, Mrs. Pugh
Comes to take Frid away
But they changed it out of town
-
I've made my letted of agreement for the NYC cast of ROBERTA and my appointment for my 2013 taxes and I'm exhausted.
I spoke to Robert Kimball, and we will indeed have lunch today at the Red Lobster at 12:30. When he and I went to the Indiana Opera Theatre production of my reconstruction of Cole Porter's JUBILEE in 1990, we dined at the Red Lonster in Bloomington before the performance. It will be good to see him.
-
If they restored the cut song, then most definitely Frid. Otherwise, Drake probably has a bit more to do onstage.
-
Probably about 900 or so.....with 300 or so to still yet put into the notebooks.
I'm looking at around 3,000 here. Which doesn't even seem possible, in spite of the fact that that's titles, not discs. Oy!
-
But they changed it out of town
;D
-
I have a particular fondness for Red Lobster, and I'm sorry to hear Darden wants to sell that one off instead of Olive Garden.
Had no idea there was one in NYC.

In 2001, Richard, Rob and I ate at Red Lobster in Kearney, Nebraska, and laughed that we were probably as far from an ocean as you can get in the continental United States.

I hope you are feeling better today.
Thanks for the recommendation for WINTER SOLSTICE. I Never read it but would like to.

That's a LOT of DVD's DR CHAS SMITH!
-
No Target!!!! Oh dear.
-
Went to Wal-Mart for groceries....it was full of kids who are away from school for the 5th day in a row....adding five days to their Christmas break.... And mothers who didn't care where their kids were or what they were doing....in WalMart.....
-
Of course I got stuck trying to get out of the driveway.....but I did make it back IN. I do not think I will be making the 35 mile drive to Greencastle for the read-thru...because our secondary roads are still not cleared, although the weather is doing a better job than our Road Crews.
-
Truth be told, there are a couple of Target stores in the area that I like more than the one here in town. Ours is small and doesn't have a big selection, but it has been pretty darn convenient.
And, I always pay with cash...
-
If they restored the cut song, then most definitely Frid. Otherwise, Drake probably has a bit more to do onstage.
What is this anyway? Frid-day?
-
We have a number of folks out sick in our agency...all with the flu...and all have been out all of this week and some of last week.
Others who are not sick are scrambling to find places giving flu shots. The vaccine being given now differs from that given back in October. I'm told that since H1N1 has made a resurgence in recent weeks, some doctors are suggesting folks get a second shot.
I see my doctor Monday and will ask about this.
Meanwhile, sniffle, sniffle....am desperately fighting something but am not feeling bad, otherwise.
-
That's a LOT of DVD's DR CHAS SMITH!
The breakdown is something like 700 on Blu-ray, 1800 on DVD, 300 on Laserdisc...
-
Still seems like too many.
But that's what my Excel sheet tells me! :o
-
How many of those have you watched, DR ChasSmith?
I will need to live to a very ripe old age, say 225 or so, in order to get around to watching all of the DVDs/DVDrs that I own.
And yet, I keep buying more.
-
I acquire 'em way ahead of what I can watch at any given time, too. When you get into it like this, there's really no other way...
-
I just spent 45 minutes snow-blowing a few hundred feet of driveway.
Ridiculous effort, when you know Mother Nature will have taken care of it by tomorrow. But when you gotta have mobility, and be safe about it, you gotta do it.

You really had a doubt as to whether it was the same or not? There aren't all that many shows with multiple Hebrew cast recordings. (My Fair Lady is the only one I know about, and the revival cast kicks the original's tuchis, except for the original Alfred Doolitle, who is just great. C'mon, there's gotta be someone out there I can start a flame war with over this... :) )

Happy Friday, All!
I'd say, Yaay for the weekend, but my weekend is Monday. Only. Hi ho the glamorous life. :D
Nothing in my DVD player. Too much rehearsal and lyrics to fine tune. BK, if you ever need someone to do the Tchaikovsky number, I almost have it down.
I did watch the second episode of the new season of the BBC Sherlock last night. It just gets better and better!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
-
I've had a nice luncheon outing: I had a wonderful 2-hour visit with Robert Kimball and a tasty lunch: clam chowder, Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. Then, on the 104 bus I ran into my newly married friends Cathie and Alice who were heading home from the Met dress rehearsal of LA BOHEME. And the payments for the ROBERTA cast have been approved.
So far, a good day.
No complaints.
-
I watched a very funny show on IFC last night called SPOILS OF BABYLON - it is purportedly a television miniseries from 1979..... The director comes on and talks about the episode before it's shown.... It is very funny. I guess Thursday at 10 p.m. will be its regular time.
It is highly recommended by the likes of me - including lines such as:
This episode is about the horrors of World War Two taken from my own horrible experiences.....reading about the war when I was child....

Where is everybody?

DR Elan, have you read A CONSPIRACY OF PAPER?
I know little about Jewish history, but I LOVED this novel--on several levels.

I'm told that 2014 will be a good year, with fewer obstacles. JRand, do you wish to chime in here?

Not very sporting of DR Jeanne to drop in and leave us with a pile of interesting sounding book titles to occupy our every waking moment. :)

Where is everybody?
I, for one, just came from singing a memorial service.
The deceased, a friend of the family, was almost 90. He was a professional saxophone player, and so his widow requested all kinds of wonderful American songbook standards to honor him. These wouldn't normally be sung at a church service, but it sure was fun to do it!

BK is most fortunate to have his choice of plumbers. Here we must call the manager and schedule with The Neanderthal, if, that is, he chooses to actually return our calls. Then we are yelled at by him for causing the problem, even when it has nothing to do with us. It's one of the perks of living here.

No, not sporting at all. When ye olde back won't function I try to lose myself in a good novel. Thus, novels are on my mind.
As for A CONSPIRACY OF PAPER by David Liss, it truly is one of my favorites. Mr Liss is not only adept at fiction, he knows so much about Jewish history and also about the evolution of the financial markets. All of this is woven together very well. A very impressive work, IMHO.

I was very sad to learn today that Bollywood back-ground dancer, Pamela, passed away. She was living in Conneticut...which I did not even know. Fellow Bollywood back-ground dancer, Edwina, posted about it on Facebook today. :(
Pamela is one of the dancers in HHW's favorite vintage Bollywood night club dance number. Jaan Pechan Ho from GUMNAAM (1965)

AKA "The Bride of Zorro."
-
I don't know which gal is Pamela, however. Laxmi Chhaya is the main dancer. Edwina was not in the number, but her brother Terence played one of the band members and Robert, Babu, Shinde, Tressa, William and Marie are all in their dancing.
-
Four friends in the cast! It will be fun to hang out.
-
GUMNAAM is the epitome of Bollywood theft: The main title sounds like Mancini's "Charade" and the plot is "And Then There Were None." And the big number? WEST SIDE STORY on drugs. My favorite is the beach number "Can a girl with those piano legs love a chubby little man like me?"
-
So, Mikey, would you agree with my assessment?

Ahh...thanks for the info. I've never seen the show but now that you mention it, someone did quote that line to me in context of the show.

Last night, I had their new (for a limited time) Reece's Peanut Butter Cup Pie Blizzard and it was quite delicious. They have a regular Reece's Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard. I also love their Double Fudge Cookie Dough Blizzard and Banana Cream Pie Blizzard. And sometimes if I'm real adventurous, I'll get the Banana Cream Pie Blizzard and have Butterfingers added (for an extra cost, of course). That's yummy!

Elan - I've never heard the Hebrew MY FAIR LADY, but am very familiar wit the Hebrew HELLO DOLLY, KING AND I and OLIVER. The latter two recordings star Rivka Raz, whom I believe was the Israeli production's FAIR LADY.

No time to watch movies this weekend
When is your reading?
-
I Blew Up, and I Don't Care - I think that is the working title of Mitzi Gaynor's autobiography.
And Mario Lanza's too.
-
Four friends in the cast! It will be fun to hang out.
Tony Yazbek looks very talented.
-
So, Mikey, would you agree with my assessment?
Pretty much, yes. although I don' think Helen has piano legs.

This is kinda cool...
People who look like twins, but aren't related at all.

That's pretty cool. Of course, there have always been a lot of celebrities who look alike (http://www.inmirror.com/).

Not very sporting of DR Jeanne to drop in and leave us with a pile of interesting sounding book titles to occupy our every waking moment. :)
He lives in San Antonio, I believe.

So I had to say good bye to my nice maple shade tree today. The split in the tree I may have mentioned meant that it could have easily fallen on the power wires going into my house or across the street where it would have blocked traffic or something worse. They couldn't save it....well, they could have but it would have been really awful looking. So, after trying to get my tree guy for a week, he called and after looking at it, he had his crew here in an hour. I am poorer, but relieved it's gone, as I was afraid of the harm it could have caused

Another image of Tony Yazbeck for MBarnum.

While I was watching them cut down the tree I realized that my garage door won't go down all the way without banging and going back up. It isn't the sensor it's something else. So after a number of calls, I found a repair man who can come to the house in the morning. Whew!

So there goes all my fun money

Are the Golden Globes this Sunday?

Are the Golden Globes this Sunday?
Yes!

Thanks for the link for the Rebecca Luker concert, DR singdaw!
-
Great cast for Little Me! Maybe I'll make it to NY to see it and for a possible HHW get-together!
-
Listening to Ms. Luker singing "Bill." Love the line: "whenever he dances, his partner takes chances!"

I watched that song...she certainly played up the humor in the song.

I am usually so good at word scrambles. But my niece's teacher gave them a lot about penguins. And there is one that i cannot solve and it is driving me crazy. I'm wondering if the teacher mis-wrote one letter. The letters are: OSETNS.
The only word I can make with those letters is onsets??

The frigid temps are supposed to be a thing of the past tomorrow. We are supposed to get a ton of rain. I don't really want to think if that is going to make everything super slick like an ice rink. :(

I am still trying to figure out what DR Vixmom does when she goes Bowking. It either sounds fun or nasty
If you do it right it's both

There's a Red Lobster in Times Square and one on 125th Street.
Things I Learned Today!
I have been tot eh one in Times Square with FJL and the Vixter

So far, a good day.
No complaints.

my sympathies we lost the two big maples infront of our house a few years ago we too decided to take them down before they killed someone or destroyed the house but I still mourn their loss

What a nutty day and not quite the all-writing day I wanted. But I've done five pages so far, so that's good - I finished another chapter and wrote the opening of the new one and now I'll relax for an hour or so, take a shower and mush on.
-
I lunched with our very own Nick Redman, his ever-lovin' Julie and Andrea Marcovicci. I'd arranged for Andrea to do a commentary for Nick for his upcoming release of The Front - apparently it went very well. Picked up a couple of packages, then came home. But the morning had about ninety minutes of useless waste dealing with benefit drama - I seem to be the only one who can make everything right, but boy does it take time. And yet another irritating e-mail from the person I asked not to e-mail me anymore but to call. Somehow after the twentieth time, I'm getting the idea it's never going to sink in.
-
And the audience loves me. And I love them. And they love me for loving them, And I love them for loving me. And We love each other
But do you love Shakespeare??
;)
-
Well, it's time for me to go home. I've been at work just a little too long today, but since I have a couple of hours to either make up tomorrow or use vacation for, it's okay.
Be back later!

One of my closest friends' supervisor has come down with H1N1. She is now in intensive care and on a respirator.
-
I've had a nice luncheon outing: I had a wonderful 2-hour visit with Robert Kimball and a tasty lunch: clam chowder, Caesar salad with grilled shrimp. Then, on the 104 bus I ran into my newly married friends Cathie and Alice who were heading home from the Met dress rehearsal of LA BOHEME. And the payments for the ROBERTA cast have been approved.
So far, a good day.
No complaints.
You need more days like that, elmore.

One of my favorite Bollywood films. Not that I have seen that many.

Tony Yazbek looks very talented.
I love Judy Kaye and David Garrison. Those are the only two I have actually seen on stage.

Good night, Vixmom, have a wonderful and theatrical day tomorrow.
-
I wonder what I can do here on my own.
-
Dear Diary;
-
Today was a very lazy day.
-
I did manage to change the sheets. Now, that doesn't sound like a big deal, but try doing it when you can't walk.
-
I end up having to roll myself across the bed, tucking in one corner, and then rolling myself back again.
-
I keep getting kicked out of HHW. I think it is probably my laptop rather than the site.
-
I had better sign off while I can.
G'night!

I'm watching James Franco's Interior. Leather Bar. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E8GPP8O/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
:o Oh, my! There is unsimulated sex...not with James Franco, though.
-
Otherwise, it's windy and there's a bit of thunder out.
-
The movie is mostly a documentary about the making of the 40 minutes cut out of "Cruising."
