And the word of the day is: SYLVAN!
I am happy to report that the various PAL format discs acquired over the years from friends in England and Australia work perfectly in our new region-free DVD player!
Also from yesterday

My favorite line:
Fox: It's only with the heart that one can see clearly. What's essential, is invisible to the eye.
I just tried organic chia seeds for the first time (sprinkled them over my breakfast). It's apparently all the latest craze. If you don't like to eat them you can always use them to grow a pet
They're pretty innocuous.
Good decision:Thanks for the info....I was about to go looking for it online. I agree with that decision although Mirai was really good. I'm glad Polina made it, she did a great job and earned her spot.
Ashley Wagner was chosen over 2010 Olympian Mirai Nagasu for the third spot despite finishing one place behind Nagasu in Boston on Saturday.
Wagner will join U.S. champion Gracie Gold and silver medalist Polina Edmunds on the Olympic Team.
Well, I've decided not to give up flute choir so I'm leaving in the next 20 minutes or so for the drive to Le Mars....the ice cream capitol of the world. I love to add that. And, of course, I'll make a stop at the ice cream capitol itself and get a big cone . I LOVE ICE CREAM
I used to ski all the time when I was a kid. I was outside all winter long no matter how cold it was. I kind of miss those days
I have a serious bout of full blown food poisoning - for only the third time in fifty years I am throwing up, which I HATE. Haven't slept a minute and if this isn't done by morning, I won't be attending band rehearsal. I can only pray it's gone by Monday.
I met one of my California friends and her relatives for dinner in Old Town Alexandria last night. We always go to "The Wharf," which serves "she-crab soup," which is her favorite. They always make a nice pasta and veggie dish for me since I don't eat meat or fish.
Good morning, all! My bed is weatherized keep me warm in zero-degree weather
I spent about an hour last night playing with the remote control and settings on the DVD player. The TV picture on every disc I examined was full-frame, and everyone was stretched out of proportion until I figured out how to letterbox the picture. Now, I am happy as a clam.
This is what SAND looks like at 250x magnification:

Anyone for a stale bread coffee table?

And another cheer for Vixmom's lovely theater x2 plus good friends day!

I love the Winter Olympics. I'm looking forward to watching them and pray that there is no terrorism

Ditto on the no terrorism!
My favorite event is the ice dancing. Ever since Torvill and Dean, I found that the grace and style appeal to me more than the big jumps of the pairs skating. I remember a couple of Olympics ago that one US (I think) pairs skating team were good and got great compliments on their footwork. They had a shot at medaling, but they tended to have problems on their jumps...actually, the landings of the jumps. I always wondered if they always had problems with the jumps and landings, why don't (or couldn't) they switch to ice dancing. No jumps...problem solved.

I remember The Wharf. It's on King St about two blocks from the river. Or, at least it used to be.
ok call me a fuddy duddy, but seeing someone in a sleeveless gown with big tattoos, is really unattractive in my opinion
Maybe your cable box got bored too, lol
Isn't Breaking Bad ending? I never watched it
Isn't Breaking Bad ending? I never watched it
Yes, I believe the last episode has aired, but I thought it might be on Netflix.
THE MONKEY'S UNCLE was also written by Tom & Helen August who were just coming back to the states after having been blacklisted during the HUAC nightmare.....
I thought Tina and Amy's opening was funny. I think the funniest part was Julia Louis Dreyfuss's bit.

I just got home a few minutes ago. I'm watching the show from the beginning...and yes, Tina and Amy are very funny. I'm playing it from my DVR so that I can fast-forward through the commercials.

This year the US has great ice dancing teams. Did you happen to see them at Nationals
Did you see Julia Robert's dress? From what I saw it looked like she had on a white button down shirt and forgot to take it off when she tried on her dress. I didn't see the whole dress, so I'm hoping I'm wrong about it...I'll be interested to see her
Oh I love Elizabeth Moss' dress

Two hours I have been locked out of here!
