I met one of my California friends and her relatives for dinner in Old Town Alexandria last night.  We always go to "The Wharf," which serves "she-crab soup," which is her favorite.   They always make a nice pasta and veggie dish for me since I don't eat meat or fish.

Good morning, all! My bed is weatherized keep me warm in zero-degree weather, and I an not sleeping well in 50-degree temperatures! It took me forever to settle down last night, and I did not want to get out of bed this morning.

I have an event-crammed day at Toyland today, mostly centered around this men's chorus medley. I'm hoping to get a good chunk of writing accomplished, but the most important task is settling on which music paper best fit the arrangement and printing out a goodly amount.

I spent about an hour last night playing with the remote control and settings on the DVD player. The TV picture on every disc I examined was full-frame, and everyone was stretched out of proportion until I figured out how to letterbox the picture. Now, I am happy as a clam.

DR vixmom, I'm happy you had such fantastic day!  What luck at the parking garage; it's all that good karma you send forth.

DR Ben, I guess the DVD player is up and running. Excellent news!

Oh, I have SO been there!  There's nothing worse, while you have it, and it seems like FOREVER.  I've suffered it three times that I can recall, and fortunately it's been years since the last time.

I actually watched the last group of skaters for the women last night.  I also think that it will be interesting to see who they choose to send to the Olympics.  I sort of wish that all 4 could go.  It seems crazy that they can only send 3.  And it seems crazy that the skaters don't know if they made the team when it is only a few weeks away. I feel like they just decide at least a couple of months before.

Today I should finish up learning my lines.....tomorrow is the 10 hour rehearsal and block the WHOLE play day.  My schedule starts at 6:15 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m.

As I was looking at it, I saw my name scheduled for a scene I didn't know about....PAGE 10.....so I looked in all copies of the script I have been sent, and finally found it....I limp on in a group.....watch someone die...and then limp off.  At least there are NO additional lines.

DR SINGDAW thanks for the MONKEY'S UNCLE clip....I have been kind of avoiding Annette clips since she died, but it was nice to see.

Brian Wilson wrote in his book that they guys were kind of nervous about recording with Annette because they NEVER recorded with anyone else, but that they all had a great time.  It may have been the only official single they recorded where someone else got top line billing.....  The single was released on Annette's SURFIN' HITS album on Buena Vista, I don't know if it was ever released on a Beach Boys album.

THE MONKEY'S UNCLE was also written by Tom & Helen August who were just coming back to the states after having been blacklisted during the HUAC nightmare.....

The men's free skate is this afternoon.... I also watched the final group of women skaters.....

The committee does have a tough choice.....although since Ashley Wagner's skate at World's is the reason we can enter three skaters instead of two in the Olympics, I think she should get a slot....  There are a couple of others that are pretty much useless to me - whether untried in International competition, or too many times melting down under pressure - so Grace, Ashley, and MAYBE Polina.....

I used to ski all the time when I was a kid.  I was outside all winter long no matter how cold it was. I kind of miss those days

I was the same, DR Cillaliz, but skating was my sport.  Until I was 9, we lived in what's known now as a townhouse in a long row.  There were community clothes lines out back on a concrete pad.  My dad and some of the other dads made us a skating rink on the concrete.  Mom still talks about how I'd put on my skates on Saturday mornings, skate all morning, eat lunch standing up in my skates, and go back out until dark.

From age 10 through high school, I had to walk several blocks east or west to outdoor rinks in city parks.  I'd never ice skated indoors until I took one semester of figure skating my freshman year of college to fulfill the phys ed requirement.  That was the end of my skating career, but I still love to watch on TV and in person.

I love the Winter Olympics.  I'm looking forward to watching them and pray that there is no terrorism

Ditto on the no terrorism!

My favorite event is the ice dancing.  Ever since Torvill and Dean, I found that the grace and style appeal to me more than the big jumps of the pairs skating.  I remember a couple of Olympics ago that one US (I think) pairs skating team were good and got great compliments on their footwork.  They had a shot at medaling, but they tended to have problems on their jumps...actually, the landings of the jumps.  I always wondered if they always had problems with the jumps and landings, why don't (or couldn't) they switch to ice dancing.  No jumps...problem solved.

Back from a really good band rehearsal.  The charts sounded great, the band is stellar, and I brought in my sound guy from The Federal, who is doing an amazing job.  If we can keep the mechanics of the show running smoothly, we should be fine.  I did get irritated as soon as I got there - for three months I've been saying I wanted the band on two sides of a center aisle, so I could break up the side entrances with that.  I had diagramed all those entrances and exits, but when I showed up, while the band is indeed in the two halves there's no center aisle or way for them to enter from the back, so I now have to redo every single diagram and all entrances are from the sides and that's just a bore, but nothing to be done about it.

One of the reasons I guess I'm adept at jumping from project to project is because I thrive on living in each of those worlds, I just love doing that.

I'm still pretty queasy, but I had no problems at rehearsal, didn't even have to go to the bathroom once - that's probably because I had no liquid left in me, but I just drank my 7-Up which was perfect and while I wasn't really up to snuff I thankfully was okay in terms of having problems.  Now if we can just keep it that way tomorrow I'll get through this.  I'm not eating anything today, and probably won't tomorrow.

BK, you are very wise to sip 7-up and other clear liquids.  Dairy products are the absolute last things you should add back into your diet.  Hope your recovery continues!

I met one of my California friends and her relatives for dinner in Old Town Alexandria last night.  We always go to "The Wharf," which serves "she-crab soup," which is her favorite.   They always make a nice pasta and veggie dish for me since I don't eat meat or fish.

I remember The Wharf. It's on King St about two blocks from the river. Or, at least it used to be.

That's it, DR Jeanne!

I'm back from Gypsy at the Signature Theatre.  It was really great--Mama Rose was played by Sherri L. Edelen and she was fantastic!  It was directed by Joe Calarco, not by the resident director.

Sandy Bainum was very funny as Tessie and I think got the most laughs of any character.  My friend and I saw her in the lobby after the show and she was her usual vivacious and friendly self!

I did something I've only done two or three times in my entire life - at about four I got back into bed and went to sleep and slept until seven.  Just went out like a light.  Since I'd done no pages, I wrote two right away and will do at least four more before the evening is done.  And we will announce at midnight so I can sleep until ten tomorrow.  Still queasy but I do think I'm past the danger point.

One thing that I really don't like about The Golden Globes is that the supporting actor/actress categories are for TV series, mini-series or TV movie.  They're all lumped together.  I think that the TV series should be in their own category.  I can see having the mini-series and TV movie actors/actresses together, but they should be separate from long-running TV series categories.

Just my 2¢.
