I used to ski all the time when I was a kid. I was outside all winter long no matter how cold it was. I kind of miss those days
I was the same, DR Cillaliz, but skating was my sport. Until I was 9, we lived in what's known now as a townhouse in a long row. There were community clothes lines out back on a concrete pad. My dad and some of the other dads made us a skating rink on the concrete. Mom still talks about how I'd put on my skates on Saturday mornings, skate all morning, eat lunch standing up in my skates, and go back out until dark.
From age 10 through high school, I had to walk several blocks east or west to outdoor rinks in city parks. I'd never ice skated indoors until I took one semester of figure skating my freshman year of college to fulfill the phys ed requirement. That was the end of my skating career, but I still love to watch on TV and in person.
