Today is a big musical day for me: my first Sunday in my new church gig, and then singing Melchior this afternoon in a production of Amahl and the Night Visitors.
I am still recuperating from being sick this past few weeks; I hope my throat holds out!
We just finished breakfast (scrambled eggs, blueberry scones, strawberries, coffee (me) and pear tea (Anthony). Anthony is doing the dishes (I made the eggs) and we are listening to a Shirley Temple compilation.
Thanks DR FJL.....now it seems to be working. who knows?
Music vibes for DR ELMORE and DR SINGDAW.
I am back where I was computer wise.....so we may have to go to the shop.....
~ ~ ~ POSITIVE VIBES ~ ~ ~ for whatever today holds for all Dear Readers!
And the word of the day is: CHIRK!
Jane, have read 'Tis?
Looking forward to playing in our AACB concert. No family coming despite me asking my brother to bring my parents...the first time I've ever asked him to do something like that. BUT, Paul and another friend are using my family passes, so I will have someone in the audience for me. Having no one there was really getting old
Just got a fun e-mail from the director/teacher of the high school production of The Brain in the UK, telling me the show was a rousing success and the kids had a blast doing it. Here's a photo - more in tomorrow's notes - but I'm always happy when my signature Brain hand move is retained. It's the first thing I thought of going way back to the very first staged reading at LACC and it's been in all my productions since, even when Adam Cates came on to really choreograph the rest of the show.
Thanks JRand. This is one of the first concerts where I really feel comfortable with all the pieces and we're doing a few that have some very tough passages. It's taken three years, but I feel like I"m almost back to where I was when I quit playing years ago. It means a lot to me
I've actually got only seven chairs! This is not boding well.
Show vibes for DR CILLA LIZ....

Where's Grand Hotel when you need it? ;)

And another dose of show vibes.
Good morning, all! I had a terrible night of sleep; at some point in the middle of the night, a snow plough, or something that sounded as though scaffolding were being erected passed down 82nd Street creating quite a racket for too long a time. I could see signs of a rotating light and hear a lot of noise, but I refused to go to the window and look. I wonder if it hit a car or got stuck.
Then, I was wide awake at 5:30, thinking about today's ROBERTA rehearsal, and at 6:45, i figured to hell with it tand got out of bed. I'm pondering my itinerary and today's agenda before I head to Toyland. I need to stop and pick up a bit of lunch and some bottled water for the office fridge, Do I do that on the Upper West Side or wait till I'm on Sixth and 27th? Decisions, decisions . . .
And that's my day. I will check in from Toyland.
Word of the Day CHIRK
Defined, as used in the following example (any resemblance to persons living, dead, undead or otherwise is unintended except for purposes of parody and/or satire, whichever comes first):
Zsa Zsa and Charo are in a Beverly Hills buffet and are shocked, shocked at running into one another.
Zsa Zsa: "Oh dahling, you look vunderful." [Said with cold, mechanical indifference to Charo].
[Zsa Zsa disappears into the buffet crowd looking to reunite with the surviving cast from her appearance on "Mister Ed" in 1962].
Charo: Gracias, [waits for Zsa Zsa to get further away] . . . . chee es such a chirk!
{With many apologies to the dramaturgists out there; it was, perhaps, a long way to go for a chirky, cheap joke.}

Maybe this is a good omen for you. Today, I decided to watch some episodes of "You Bet Your Life". The very first one I chose was in the middle of one of the DVDs, originally broadcast in November of 1955. The second team chose the subject of musicals. Their very first question was to name that tune, and it was "Lovely to Look At" from "Roberta". They got it right.
Watching the Ice Dancers on NBCS. I do like seeing more than just the top 5
I'm going to see How to Succeed... with friends Dennis and Carol. It's at the Olney Theatre in Olney, Maryland. I've never been there. I guess it's about an hour away. Looking forward to seeing George Dvorsky in the show.
Sunday afternoon greetings! We made it all the way to Lima today and everyone was glad to have a service and coffee hour.

A Buffet For The Judges is the title of my new mystery novel.

DR Jeanne I have asked a couple of times but know seems to have heard from DR Doug.
I am getting used to receiving an onslaught of e-mails for everything from Depends Undergarments to assisted living centers; but this past week I have received over a dozen messages for New and / or Used RV's. Strange.
Thank you all for the Vibes!
DR Dan M, "Lovely To Look At" was indeed a lucky omen. We got off to a shaky start with people arriving and my having to go down to the lobby to let them in. I finally figured, stay down here and let the boys who've arrived visit and chat. By noon everyone was there. I hadn't seen Patrick, our leading man, since Dublin, and it was nice to see him and Rob, my two traveling companions who made my hellish physical condition in Dublin s much easier.
So, Rob had to stand to conduct, Michael Marcotte stood, and after 90 minutes of rehearsal, Tally and Patrick went off to their matinees, and the seven boys, who rally sound good, all had chairs. It was a really good rehearsal and I think we're heading in for great sessions next week.
And, after a long day, it's good to be home.
DR elmore I am very pleased that your day went well.

Thanks, Nursie. Me, too!
Wonderful news about your day, Larry
No he actually suggested having their neighbors bring them..they are older than my parents. I'm not going to worry about it anymore. We do have recordings of every concert. I've been buying them for mom and dad. Don't know if they ever listen to them, but it's the best I can do at this pointLooking forward to playing in our AACB concert. Did he say he will take them another time?
FINALLY!!!! It would have been more cost effective for me to just re-purchase the book since it cost so little but I refused to do so. I also refused to do a complete shut down and re-registration of my account. Last time I did that it screwed up everything.

Hurrah! I laughed though when I saw you wrote that you were "reading to kill somebody" I never heard of that method of murder before :)
Good evening all. I appreciate all the vibes and I"m sure if I didn't live in the middle of nowhere there would be DRs there to cheer me on. Paul did come to see us. He had my "band spouse" pass. He sat right in the middle near the front. He had a great time and so did I. I love playing and loved the music we did. One of the members of my flute choir was there. She used to be in the band but got tired of commuting, so she isn't anymore. Another former band member stopped to chat with me and several band members who had seen my post on fb were very supportive and welcoming.

Congratulations on a day that turned out well, DR Elmore!
Just had a wonderful conversation regarding the new book - the first person who's read it without proofing and someone who will be blurbing it and I could not have been happier with the reaction. Smiling large right now.
Nice new avatar DR TCB.

Would it even have let you re-buy the same book? On amazon it tells you when you have already purchased the e-book. And i don't think it will let you buy it again.

After the show, I went to Eagan's for their deluxe cheeseburger. It was quite delish. I had my Kindle with me, so I also read and finished "Death Masks," Book Five of THE DRESDEN FILES.
Watched a wonderful film noir tonight called "The Window." Little Bobby Driscoll of Walt Disney fame plays a kid who tells tall tales all the time. Then he witnesses a murder and no one believes him. Really taut and suspenseful. Great score that borrowed a Leonard Bernstein style. And some impressive cinematography. I think I may have seen it when I was a kid, but it would have had commercials then. I don't remember it being the nail-biter it seemed tonight.
DOWNTON ABBEY was long tonight. Shirley returns next week, I gather.
Nice new avatar DR TCB.
Thank you, Jrand!

Where is Eagan's located, George?
Listening to a new master. Pretty damn good.

I like it too!
