Well, you've read the notes, the notes kicked ASS, and now it is time for you to post until the irritating cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SUSSURANT!
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to former dear reader Rodzinski.
-
First post after BK!
-
Happy birthday to dear Rodzinski, if you're reading here today!
-
I'm here now DR Vixmom. I wish I was sleeping instead. I blame it on DR Jennifer who said I should read Divergent even if she didn't say I should do so in one day and night ;)
-
Still awake even though I haven't been reading.
-
Congrats on the great review, bk! I am wondering, though, how that reader bought a copy of the book on Barnes & Noble when you've just placed the book order? In any case, this bodes well.

HAPPY SPRING, EVERYONE! (in the Northern hemisphere, at any rate)

Good morning, all! Last night, i slept poorly, so when the alarm rang at 7:15, I lounged and lazed until it was nearly 8:00. I'm now bathed, dressed and ready for the day. I've got physical therapy at 11:15 and no other plans.
DR vixmom, how are you feeling today? I hope your heart is okay. Have you had it checked?
I've sent the E&T Rodzinski a FB greeting and an e-card. If he wants me to wish him a happy birthday here, he can come back.
-
DR George yes the movie Divergent is based on a very popular book trilogy written by Veronica Roth. The books are YA dystopia. Check your library. I am sure they are hugely popular. They explain a lot in the movie. So I think it will be easy for people to follow wo have not read the books.
-
DR Jane I am dying to know how you liked the firs book.
-
good morning to all

tod
don't have one
-
A very happy birthday wish for the errant-and-truant former DR Rodzinski.
-
Good morning, all.
Fell asleep on ye olde movie watching couch (while watching some ye olde movies) and didn't wake till 5:30 am, whereupon I had to figure out (1) where I was, then (2) why. It sure was a deep, groggy sleep. But I got me up and went up to bed and had a decent few more hours. I know there was a huge dream in both places, but so far I can only bring back the latter part of the second one. So, oh well.
Coffee!

Thursday morning greetings and Happy Spring! I'll be home for the day for more puttering while I follow the first round of March Madness - Go, Blue! I actually won't get to see the Michigan game tonight because I'll be at book group, but this afternoon I'll look in on Dayton/Ohio State, Harvard/Cincinnati, and Delaware/Michigan State. I'm also going to make one of Richard's favorite dinners - chicken and rice - which he will enjoy after his 2 appointments today (nothing life-threatening).
-
It must be Spring, because the snow on the ground continues to thin out and recede. Just like a good head of hair.
-
TOD:
Being a Western buff, I would like to visit some historical sites, like the Litte Big Horn, Deadwood, Coffeyville, KS, etc.

Good day and happy Thursday to one and all! The latest Broadway Radio Show is now available on this fabulous website for your listening pleasure. This time we pay tribute to Tony winning composer Mitch Leigh who just passed away on the 16th. Of course, we will hear selections from his most famous show, Man of La Mancha, but we will also sample songs from 2 of his biggest flops, Cry For Us All (1970) and Ain't Broadway Grand (1993). Enjoy!
-
So weird. There was supposed to be 10cms of snow last night. And there was just a few flurries.
Please snow melt.
-
Hmmm . . . just got a bit of work on Encores' IRMA LA DOUCE. I may actually make some money this year and that's really a good thing after last year's financial plunge.
-
Great news, DR Elmore!
-
Good morning, all.
Great news on the Irma work, Elmore. Love that score. You did the version of The Christmas Child for BK, right?
-
Happy birthday, E&T DR Rodzinski.
-
TOD:
A few trips I'd like to make: Buenos Aires, New Zealand, Peru.
I'm also hoping to have the chance to spend Christmas with my sister in Germany this year. I've never been there with her family at Christmas time. Now, if I could only learn some more German ...
-
Good morning, all.
Great news on the Irma work, Elmore. Love that score. You did the version of The Christmas Child for BK, right?
No. Lanny did that. The original French lyrics to "The Christmas Child" begins as a parody of Il est né, le divin Enfant,

Hello All:
BK, I read the review on RED GOLD. Congratulations! I am not surprised though, since I LOVE YOUR BOOKS!
I am looking forward to reading it soon!
-
Two!
-
It's another day in which the universe is conspiring to prevent me from getting work done. Ah well. I'm just glad I'm along for the ride.
-
If "involvees" is a good coinage for a word, how about "uninvolvees" as in: "All the uninvolvees walked by without a second glance."
-
As for "involvees" being a good word...well....
Mayhaps it is and mayhaps it ain't.
-
No mayhaps about it.
-
Nope. All the mayhaps are out in the pasture with the HHW cows.
-
Speaking of mayhaps...
How many naugas do you think it took to make this chair? 8)

Congrats on the great review, bk! I am wondering, though, how that reader bought a copy of the book on Barnes & Noble when you've just placed the book order? In any case, this bodes well.
It's the nature of print on demand. The minute the book was approved it went live at the Author House site and a day or so later elsewhere. It's been available at amazon and barnesandnoble for almost a week now - in fact, I bought a copy (I always do) of the hardcover from amazon - it arrived yesterday. Had I known barnes and noble was shipping faster, I would have ordered from there last Thursday or so and had it even earlier.
-
I'm up - barely. Must go pick up the limited edition thing at Staples in about ten minutes.
-
Well, the Kindle edition is now available, so I can start reading the book now.

Don't look for mayhaps in march.
-
Congrats to MR BK on his review.....very nice.
AND happy birthday to DR RODZINSKI
-
I've sent the E&T Rodzinski a FB greeting and an e-card. If he wants me to wish him a happy birthday here, he can come back.
;D
-
I may have spoken too soon. I fear there may be a problem with the formatting of the Kindle edition as it now stands. I can download the book, but when I try (repeatedly) to open the book, my whole Kindle freezes. :P
-
I have been playing with my new tablet.....but I didn't receive my wireless router yet....so not much I can do. Although I did get the time/date set.
It's a pretty nifty thing....certainly it is NOT an IPAD, but for $56, it will serve my purpose.
-
March mayhaps are almost as rare as May mayhaps.
-
Kindle Freeze. Is there an APP for that?
-
TOD:
Well.....I pretty much do what I want to do....and NEVER pass up an opportunity to do something new.....
I would say - I would like the opportunity to do another play in Indy....we shall see if that presents itself.
-
I don't know, DR Jrand63. But it sure tastes good in a sugar cone!
-
DR Jane I am dying to know how you liked the firs book.
From the very beginning I found it entertaining and engrossing. I enjoyed it very much. I wish I could time when I read my books. This would have been a perfect one for a long flight. I rate my books differently than you do as I don't find this great literature, but then most books aren't ;) Meaning I gave it 4 stars vs your 5.
I am kicking myself though.....when I put holds on the first 2 books my library didn't have the 3rd book and I didn't remember until today to put a hold on it. I'm sure the movie increased the number of holds. I am 395 out of 397 on the waiting list with 25 copies. It does say it might move faster at my library.
-
At the half, the University of Dayton leads Ohio State by 3 and I'm still trying to figure out how a game between 2 Ohio teams that's being played in Buffalo, NY, is a South Region match-up.

TOD - I told Richard not long ago that I want to live in a big city again before I die.

I like that the card looks like the first day of spring.
-
I may have spoken too soon. I fear there may be a problem with the formatting of the Kindle edition as it now stands. I can download the book, but when I try (repeatedly) to open the book, my whole Kindle freezes. :P
I was deciding if I should wait for the Nook edition or attempt to use my new Kindle app. I think I will wait.

Today is also my father's 87th birthday.

HA!

TOD - I told Richard not long ago that I want to live in a big city again before I die.
Just yesterday I mentioned a few cities I might enjoy living in, unfortunately LA is not one of them.
-
DR Jrand, HAPPY 87TH BIRTHDAY TO YOUR FATHER!!!
-
DR Jennifer have you read the 2 Divergent short stories?
-
Happy Birthday to Dad Rand87! :)
-
Perhaps report the problem to amazon? I'll go order it right now and see if I have the problem - of course, I don't have a Kindle but I have the APP on my iPad.
-
A book just became available to read from my library wish list so I will read that instead of Allegiant.
-
I have the app on my Android, but have yet to figure out how to use it. I'll try it later, too.
-
Update: I can read Red Gold on my PC with the Kindle App. Just not on my Kindle.
-
DR Jennifer have you read the 2 Divergent short stories?
I will have to check my goodreads account. I know I read whichever ones came out before Allegiant. But I think since they are about the story before Allegiant that they should have all come out before that book came out. Plus the last book was so controversial. I was sort done with the author. I wonder if the ecopy of Allegiant is still really cheap. I have seen it cheap quite often.
-

You mean Insurgent.
-

You should definitely email amazom. I hate reading on my computer. Although if I had a laptop I might not care.
-
Happy 87 to DR JRand's Dad!
-
Happiest of birthdays to E & T DR Rodzinski - we miss you!
-
I bought the eBook - there's definitely something wrong with it, so don't buy just yet - I've written the publisher. I knew something was wrong when it took five minutes to download. All the print is small and in the middle of the page - my other books aren't like that, they take up the whole page and look just like the book - this looks like it's been miniaturized to the middle of the page. I'll let you know what I hear back.
-
Don't look for mayhaps in march.
That's true. Two months early.
-
DR JRand63, tell your dad I wish him a happy day!
-
And I am home from therapy and procrastinating the next bit of work.
-
The eBook thing is truly baffling to me - it's just impossible to know if it's an amazon problem or what they were sent. I asked the publisher to check THEIR copy on the Author House site - and to buy the amazon so they could see the problem. It's readable if you zoom out and make it bigger but it ain't right.
-
Happy birthday to JRand's Dad.
-
DR Jennifer have you read the 2 Divergent short stories?
I just checked and I've read Free Four and The Transfer. But I won't read the other two.
-
Fred Phelps has died.
So, duly noted. Time to move on.
-
DR Jane, i read Divergent 2 1/2 years ago. I wonder what rating I would give it now. I don't give very many 5 stars. At the time it was a new thing dystopia. And the book just surprised me. I think I have only given one book 5 stars so far this year (i'd have to check to be sure). Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.
-
Today is also my father's 87th birthday.

Happy Birthday to Pappy Earles!

It may be time to take that visit to Peru I mentioned in my TOD today. Apparently, plenty of nude people have been spotted at Machu Pichu lately. What better reason to go?!
-
M-o-o-n...that spells Happy Birthday to FDR Rodzinski.
-
I wish we could entice a good illustrator to present, for our viewing pleasure, "The Kicking of the Ass of Irritating".

Dayton Flyers by 1 - bye, bye Buckeyes!

You're just telling me that to cheer me up.

I actually just looked and for "Divergent," we have 15 copies of the downloadable e-book and it has 95 holds (requests)! I placed holds on the other two titles, but they don't have as many copies or requests. I might get them before the first book. :-\
-
I wish we could entice a good illustrator to present, for our viewing pleasure, "The Kicking of the Ass of Irritating".
I'd buy that. :)

It must be Spring, because the snow on the ground continues to thin out and recede. Just like a good head of hair.

A Very Happy 87th Birthday to Jrand's Father!! :D

BK, Fr. Richard says Easter occurs on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the the vernal equinox. Blame the Council of Nicaea.

Blame the Council of Nicaea.
;D
You know, I always do!

When I'm not blaming it on the bossa nova, that is.

And then there's always The Forbidden Dance.

Happy Birthday to JRand63's Dad.
What a HANDSOME GUY!!!
-
Goodbye for now!!!
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Back from a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich and some rice pudding.
-
Well, I was able to get it on my iPad (the eBook) and I could read it if I enlarged the text. If Singblade reads it I will look forward to his thoughts - same with George.

And then there's always The Forbidden Dance.
And the E&T JoseSPiano.

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes for my father. He sends his thanks as well.

I'm still laughing at the lyrics of Jubilation T. Cornpone and The Country's In the Very Best of Hands......
-
In the small print on amazon it says that Red Gold has a longer download time due to the large file size. Hopefully amazon and others can sort this out so nobody else has a problem.
-
DR George that would be funny if someone would read the Divergent books in the order they became available at the library. I am guessing that the first book has more reservations now because of the movie coming out today.
-
DR George that would be funny if someone would read the Divergent books in the order they became available at the library. I am guessing that the first book has more reservations now because of the movie coming out today.
I can imagine that some people do that. I wouldn't want to. There would be too much missing information for any of it to make sense...but that's just me.
-

Are you suggesting I skip the 3rd book? It is $11.49 at B & N so I will not be buying it. Hmmm, should I stop now before continuing to the 2nd book and wait for the movies? Speaking of the film, it seems they aged the leads a bit.
-
A book just became available to read from my library wish list so I will read that instead of Allegiant.
You mean Insurgent.
Yes, had Allegiant on my brain. I like to alternate the types of books I read. It is rare that I go directly to the next book in a series unless it is just convenient to do so. An exception was The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. I had a very short wait for that one but would have begun reading it immediately if I had the option.
-
I have the Kindle app on my android tablet and it's downloading Red Gold! We'll see if it will work.

I asked the publisher to check THEIR copy on the Author House site - and to buy the amazon so they could see the problem. It's readable if you zoom out and make it bigger but it ain't right.
That isn't right. Can they stop the sales until the problem is sorted out?
-
I was able to read it on my tablet, but I couldn't change the font size. And it would only be on the left column if I held the tablet in the horizontal position, but the whole page would fill the screen if I held it vertically. Not horrible, but I really do prefer to read on my actual Kindle as opposed to reading on this color screen tablet...the shiny screen has much too much glare. :P
-
DR Jane, i read Divergent 2 1/2 years ago. I wonder what rating I would give it now. I don't give very many 5 stars. At the time it was a new thing dystopia. And the book just surprised me. I think I have only given one book 5 stars so far this year (i'd have to check to be sure). Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.
I am sure my ratings often reflect my mood at the time.
Dystopia isn't new to me, just the constant reference to the word and the popularity of YA dystopia. Fahrenheit 451 is one of my favorite books and if dystopia was used in describing it, back when, it would have been a fairly casual remark.
-
It may be time to take that visit to Peru I mentioned in my TOD today. Apparently, plenty of nude people have been spotted at Machu Pichu lately. What better reason to go?!

According to DR Jennifer on Goodreads read Divergent before the short stories, especial "The" Transfer:
This novella was excellent. Loved it. Even though this novella is listed as #0.1 DO NOT READ IT before reading Divergent. It is listed as a prequel because it takes place before Divergent. But there are some big surprises/spoilers from Divergent in this novella.

Happy Birthday to Jrand63's dad!

Blame the Council of Nicaea.

You know, I always do!
Chuckling away here.

I keep thinking about the beautifully written book I read two books ago, "Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter" by Tom Franklin. Has anyone read it?

The Associated Press has decided today that "over" can be used in place of "more than." To which I say, more than my dead body.

Our poor Mt. Ashland ski area. I just read the following:
"It was a matter of degrees: The temperatures were just high enough and Mount Ashland's elevation just low enough for the worst convergence of weather conditions that the southern Oregon ski resort has ever experienced."
In 50 years they have always had enough snow to open, until this year. There was rain but the temps were usually a couple of degrees too high for snow.

I am quickly closing in on a millstone.
-
The problem with my Bucket list is every time I go someplace, or do something, on it I find twice as many things to add to it.
-
I have never thought of it as being a bucket list. Instead it is only things I would like to do.
-
I guess the next thing on my new bucket list would be getting to 40,000 posts!
-
I must control my posts until George is here.
-
I have never thought of it as being a bucket list. Instead it is only things I would like to do.
Same here. The term "bucket list" has become so common I now use it.
-
My lack of sleep last night is catching up to me. At least I slept in until 7:40.
-
I am very tired this afternoon. I wish I didn't have to go to rehearsal tonight. Although, the two scenes we are blocking tonight are not really difficult. In fact the first one that we are doing from 6:30 to 8:00, I could phone in my part.
-
I call the scene, "Letters to Marmee" because it consists of the three letters that are sent to Marmee!
-
I guess Tahiti is still on my bucket list. I don't know why. I couldn't swim, I couldn't snorkel, and I couldn't scuba dive.
-

It's $6.99 on amazon right now.
No I would definitely read the 2nd book. I really loved Insurgent. Probably more than Divergent. And I would definitely read Allegiant. How could you read the first two books and not find out how the story ends? Some people loved it. Some people hated it. The whole book was different from the other two. Definitely read it.
I don't think that they aged the leads. In the book I'd say Tris was 17ish and Four was early twenties. I'm pretty sure that is what they were in the movie. They never said their ages in the movie. But I think you had to be a certain age to be tested.

I watched Gravity tonight. I think I liked the 2nd half more than the first half.
I didn't love it. It was okay. And I sort of enjoyed it while watching it. But not much really happened. And so few actors!
-
A book just became available to read from my library wish list so I will read that instead of Allegiant.
I usually read books in a series as they come out (so one year in between). But i have on occasion read all three in a row. At least then you remember the story. I have a notebook where i write a summary of the books i read that are series including a detailed description of the ending. There is also a site (called recaptains) they summarize most YA series book by book (minus the last book) to help people remember.

I guess Tahiti is still on my bucket list. I don't know why. I couldn't swim, I couldn't snorkel, and I couldn't scuba dive.
My favorite part of Tahiti was enjoying the view of Moorea & swimming. Bora Bora & Moorea, IMHO, where much prettier.

I think I'm more picky now to give books 5 stars. Although I think I may have actually given the new Lisa Gardner books 5 stars (or 4.5). Not that it is necessarily the best book ever. But for the type of book it is I think that she is an amazing writer.

DR George yes the movie Divergent is based on a very popular book trilogy written by Veronica Roth. The books are YA dystopia. Check your library. I am sure they are hugely popular. They explain a lot in the movie. So I think it will be easy for people to follow wo have not read the books.
I actually just looked and for "Divergent," we have 15 copies of the downloadable e-book and it has 95 holds (requests)! I placed holds on the other two titles, but they don't have as many copies or requests. I might get them before the first book. :-\
Wow, aren't I helpful. :)
Actually there is a trend for YA writers to write prequels after they write the first book. Those who had already read Divergent would read it first and then the prequels. But those new to the series would probably read the prequel first thinking that was the correct order. I feel like they should definitely post the spoiler info in the blurb saying the order to read it in.
Four is the narrator of these prequels.

I gave it a solid 4 stars. I might have given it an extra half except the wrap up on the book, for me, didn't = the rest of the book.

Yes then i guess they do seem a bit older. I thought that Four was more than 2 years older. And I thought that Tris must have been at least 17.

In real life Shailene (who plays Tris) is 22.
And Theo (who plays Four) is 29.

Sometimes I begin with a prequel if I'm new to a series and it helps to be given advice which book to read first. Just seeing that the voice of the prequel changed I would have waited to read it, had I known about it.

When you read over 100 books a year and many are series it was making me crazy not being able to remember the endings. Writing it down has made me sane.

When I was 22 I easily passed for 16. The photos of these actor's looked older. I can understand aging them a bit for the movie version. Reading the book it felt like they should have been older.

The book I'm reading now has a prequel which came out a few weeks before it. I was trying to find out if i should read it first. A bunch of reviews on goodreads explained that there were different narrators and that the narrator of the first book is introduced in the prequel. And that it was a must read before. So i did. And now i'm really glad i did or i would have missed out on a lot.

I wonder why all the dystopia's have the lead characters at 16-18. I think most of the stories could work just as well or better if they were early 20s. I actually read my first New Adult dystopia last week. I hope that trend continues.
-
I often read reviews and notes of the last book I read before reading the next. I am also trying to avoid series that tell a continuous story until they have all been published and can be read close to each other.

I don't think they aged them for the movie. They just didn't specifically say their ages (that i can recall). But it is clear that the testings are done when you are 16-18. And Four is supposed to be a few years older.

I know a lot of people who wait until the series is all published. But what if you don't even like the first book and you waited 3 years to read it? I never wait now if it's a book i want to read. Otherwise how will i know if i want to continue the series.

Trust me, he is 18 in the book. When they talked about the difference of two years in the story I was surprised having thought he was much older.

LOL, DR Jane, we've been together as a group since Rob was in kindergarten and I don't we've EVER read a book that everyone liked! I did like this one and now want to read HOTEL...

Congrats on all the millstones, everyone -- both new and recent ones. Some nice numbers here.

Got the manuscript of the barbecue book back today and have a week to edit it. Plus, all this school work. And work work. Agh!

QUOTE
"Easter is a moveable feast, which means that it does not occur on the same date every year. How is the date of Easter calculated? The Council of Nicaea (A.D. 325) set the date of Easter as the Sunday following the paschal full moon, which is the full moon that falls on or after the vernal (spring) equinox.
We know that Easter must always occur on a Sunday, because Sunday was the day of Christ's Resurrection. But why the paschal full moon? Because that was the date of Passover in the Jewish calendar, and the Last Supper (Holy Thursday) occurred on the Passover. Therefore, Easter was the Sunday after Passover.
The Church does not use the exact date of the paschal full moon but an approximation, because the paschal full moon can fall on different days in different time zones, which would mean that the date of Easter would be different depending on which time zone you live in. For calculation purposes, the full moon is always set at the 14th day of the lunar month (the lunar month begins with the new moon). Likewise, the Church sets the date of the vernal equinox at March 21, even though it can occur on March 20. Both approximations allow the Church to set a universal date for Easter.
Still, Easter isn't celebrated universally on that date. While Western Christians use the Gregorian calendar (the calendar that's used throughout the West today, in both the secular and religious worlds) to calculate the date of Easter, the Eastern Orthodox continue to use the older, astronomically inaccurate Julian calendar. Currently, March 21 on the Julian calendar falls on April 3 in the Gregorian calendar. Therefore, for the Orthodox, the Sunday following the 14th day of the paschal full moon has to fall after April 3, hence the discrepancy in the date of Easter.
Many Christians believe that the date of Easter is determined by the date of Passover, and so they are surprised when, in years such as 2008, Western Christians celebrate Easter before the Jewish celebration of Passover.
But look closely once again at the formula for calculating Easter, established at the Council of Nicaea: Easter is celebrated on the Sunday following the paschal full moon. Notice what isn't mentioned? That's right: Passover.
In fact, the reason the Council of Nicaea set up a formula for calculating the date of Easter was to separate the Christian celebration of Christ's Resurrection from the Jewish celebration of the Passover. Some Christians in the early fourth century were calculating the date of Easter according to the Jewish calendar, while others believed it needed to be calculated separately.
The Council of Nicaea agreed with the latter group. While Easter and Passover were related historically—as I noted above, the Last Supper occurred on the Passover—and theologically, the Council declared that the connection between the two holidays ended with the Death and Resurrection of Christ.
Why? Because Christ is the new Paschal Lamb, of Whom the lamb sacrificed at Passover was just a sign or symbol. That symbol found its completion in the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross. Thus, the continued celebration of the Jewish Passover has no theological significance for Christians, because Christ is our Passover Lamb.
Still, many Christians remain confused on this point, because currently, the Eastern Orthodox celebration of Easter always occurs after the Jewish celebration of Passover. Therefore, they have assumed that the Eastern Orthodox calculate the date of Easter differently, and that the Orthodox Church include in its calculation a consideration of the modern date of Passover.
In fact, however, the Orthodox use the very same formula established by the Council of Nicaea. As the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America explained in a 1994 article entitled "The Date of Pascha," the modern date of Passover has nothing to do with the Orthodox date of Easter. The difference, as the article explains, is entirely the result of the Orthodox Church's continued use of the astronomically inaccurate Julian calendar. "

Aren't you glad you asked?

The Associated Press has decided today that "over" can be used in place of "more than." To which I say, more than my dead body.
Love it !

Well, it's time for me to leave work. I've been here a little too long, but I (finally) got started on a project that I should've started...some time ago. ::) I'll be able to finish the first phase of it tomorrow. It basically involves me e-mailing all our vendors with whom we have standing orders and asking them what kinds of standing order plans they say we should be getting. I need to find out if what they say we're getting is what we think we're getting. We'll see how it all works out.
Until later!
-
That sounds like a royal headache, DR George. :P

Project Finishing vibes for George. (I know how it feels.)

Well, this turned into a very long day and evening - I had a great production meeting at LACC - and I really like our set designer a lot. Then I came home, beating the traffic, picked up one package, and had forgotten that I had a mixing session for And the World Goes Round, so I headed over there at four and we just finished twenty minutes ago. Of the thirty-four numbers I finessed twelve mixes, which is huge, but more importantly the rough mixes that I hated all sound so much better now and I'm beginning to have hope that the pick-up session won't be quite as dire as I feared. More about that in the notes.
-
Well, that's good news, bk!
-
Excellent news, BK. I'm really looking forward to that full recording of the show.
-
Because Easter is not a fixed date on the calendar, it is known as a moveable feast, but not in the Hemingway sense.
-
I dislike the term "bucket list" because it reminds me of the movie of the same name by Meathead, which I did not like. I also do not like the phrase as used on many books "1,001 [insert noun here]s to [insert verb here] before you die". I would rather prefer the term, "things I haven't gotten around to yet because everyday life got in the way".
-
One thing I regret is that I did not practice a musical instrument all that much as I had my mind on other things. I absolutely love hearing a live performance and I really enjoyed performing when I was in the school orchestra as a second violist. I also enjoyed being a member of the school chorus for the same reasons. I would like to return to some form of musical performance and maybe learn a new instrument.
-
I would like to give more presentations on topics I enjoy. I got a taste of that while I was a charter member of the Toastmasters club at the University of Arizona. I was able to "perform" the "I'm as mad as hell" monologue from "Network" and also recited the "Thanatopsis" by William Cullen Bryant.
-
I would like to do more recitations. Gerard Manley Hopkins has an interesting meter to his poetry that I like a lot. Of course, since he was a Jesuit priest, there are references/allusions to religion.
Pied Beauty
GLORY be to God for dappled things—
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings;
Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough;
And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim.
All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
Praise him.

I would like to travel more. Up until 2009, when I moved to Arizona, the farthest west I had traveled was someplace in Pennsylvania. The farthest north was Plattsburgh, New York and the farthest south was Cape May, New Jersey. I have now traveled as far west as Blythe, California, as far south as Nogales, AZ and as far north as Scottsdale, AZ. Still not all that well-traveled, alas.

I was thisclose to kicking the bucket last year, so I am very happy to be doing the simple things every day. After you've been bed-bound for 6 months, and having to relearn to walk, it's a miracle to do things that others take for granted.

I'm watching Jimmy Kimmel and they did a spoof of "Scandal," as if it were a Spanish language telenovela. It was hysterical!

They had the actors from the show actually do the spoof.
