Title: DRESS REHEARSAL
Post by: bk on May 18, 2014, 12:35:36 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a dress rehearsal for the real notes, and now it is time for you to post until the dress rehearsal cows come home.

I am currently reading Diane McBain's autobiography, FAMOUS ENOUGH.

It's a fascinating read; a cautionary tale.  I am learning things about my friend of 35+ years that I never knew.

Sunday morning greetings!  Fr. Richard excused me from going to Lima today, because I still have relatives in the area and there will be some coming and going here at our house.  Eventually, I will drive my cousin Dan to a hotel near the Cincinnati airport where he will stay tonight.  He has an early flight back to Japan tomorrow and didn't want anyone to have to drive him to the airport at 4am - very considerate of him!

Slept in rather late.  A happy accident.  Glad I didn't stay asleep much longer, though.  In two hours I'm outta here for that matinee.

Congrats to The Vixter!  It sounds like she has a good, fun job there, among good, fun people.  Very lucky.

I think we talked about this once but it didn't sink in.  It's Texas Road House, the national chain?  I didn't even know it was a chain until I saw them in a couple of places.  We don't have one right here, but I see they're in two places that are half an hour away, and it looks like there's one right where I'm going for that matinee today.  I won't be eating there today, but I want to get to one soon.

Good morning, all! I slept very late.  Between all the sudden activity of this month, the madness yesterday with Verizon and door keys, not to mention the burgeoning insanity of the Man from Philadelphia who's working my last nerve this week, I'm ready for a vacation. This week, I'm thinking about my belongings out of Toyland and telling the Man from Philadelphia to lose my number. First, I have to mix ROBERTA and invoice him for the work. Something's going on with him at present and he's driving everyone mad.

Verizon tells me they cannot credit me; they know I'm owed a credit since their inventory shows that they have one more cell phone of the type I bought - since I paid for two - but they have some cockamamie reason why they simply can't issue a credit; it will destroy my phone records, so I'm going to get a reimbursement check or something. Then I'll flap my arms and fly to the moon.  If there's no action on this by Friday, I will issue a dispute with my bank.

Title: Re: DRESS REHEARSAL
Post by: elmore3003 on May 18, 2014, 07:41:41 AM
I did accomplish everything I needed to do at Toyland yesterday, I canned all of the Merry Widow score, printed out the vocal books for this week's concert and bind them, worked on a thank you gift for Rob Berman - I would still be lying here praying for work if not for him; the Man from Philadelphia has not been really helpful butI won't beg him for anything - and I finally took care of the door key, thanks to the help of the doorman who was a saint yesterday.  So, I will hopefully meet the Dublin friends I missed yesterday around 1:00 before they fly home.
Title: Re: DRESS REHEARSAL
Post by: elmore3003 on May 18, 2014, 07:44:34 AM
I have some work here on an old score I wrote in 1985, and then I will hopefully chill out. I have some reading to do on Franz Lehar and "The Merry Widow," for my round of notes, and then I hope to watch PHILOMENA, which I've wanted to see for months.

I like what I see of the LI'L ABNER scenery and costumes. Wish I could see it.

DR singdaw, I'm glad you are feeling better!

DR vixmom, please tell the vixter I send my congratulations!

I had sad news from my brother Randy this morning; my dad's 50-year-old company, Piping of Ohio, is no more. Everything was auctioned off last week, and I'm grateful that a company begun to pay for my schooling, since my Dad worried that he couldn't put me through college,  supported my brothers for as long as it did. Randy wrote that the auction did very well, better than expected, and paid off all the existing debts.

I don't know what Lady M will do now, with nothing to bitch at JoAnn about.

Now, if we could only sell that Oho property!

I really want to win the lottery, get this recording project back on its feet and out of the hands of the Man from Philadelphia, help out my family and friends, and know I am fiscally sound until I keel over.

Hey, Larry, it's sad that your Father's business is no more but at least some of the debts are out of the way. Now if only your brothers can sell the property. Perhaps now that the business is gone they will see the light and dispose of the land.

Good thoughts to you dear friend.

Well library books and review books come before books and e-books I own, which is why I have such a problem getting to books I own. It's funny because I read so much but cannot keep up.

I believe we suffer from the same problem, except that I don't review books.

My issues of the New York Review of Books continue to stack up.

We haven't been to the original El Cholo's since shortly after the last big quake.  I am glad it was good.

Tonight is the TAR Finale.  Unfortunately, I don't like any of the teams in the Final Three.

I actually really like one, sort of like another, and dislike one strongly (as a team - they seem like nice people).
The ones I like are Brenchal. The ones I sort of like are the father and son (I find them very competent but just started disliking their attitude when they went all crazy over the U-turn). The ones I dislike as a team are the blondes.  While I would love to have an all female team win. I just find these two to be less than competent. They did well last week. but every other week they have had people help them, lead them and give them the answers. I would be unhappy if they won.

Library news.

Good news is they processed the books I was waiting for today (before the holiday tomorrow).

Bad news is they lost the reservation for the one book I desperately wanted to read.

Good news is at least they was only one other reservation on that book.

Hopefully this person will be a fast reader.  I hate when popularish trilogies have their final books come out and people like to spoil them. I just have to hope I don't read anything before I can get and read this book.

Good news also is that they did have another book that I have really really been wanting to read since it came out 2 months ago.

I think it is because a) you read a lot late at night or in the middle of the night and b) I often get a book hangover and wait a couple of days in between reading books.

Most of the young men were in traditional black tie. I remember that when I went to prom, the latest thing was a pastel ruffly front (not sure what you call it, or if it even has a name?) that attached to the front of the shirt. None of those in evidence yesterday.

Not sure what we'll do with Abner after LACC.  I have tried to contact one of the eight people who control the grand rights, to no avail.  I'll now try a few of the others.  I would like to lock up the rights for a first-class revival for a few months, at which point I would start meeting with people who could make that happen.

Yesterday, I went to my friend's mother-in--law's 90th birthday party.  Luckily, the weather was ideal.  Mostly sunny and in the high 60's , I think.  My friend has quite a nice house with a huge, sloping back yard.  It was a very nice party.  The guest of honor is having another party in July, near her actual birthday.  Her friends will be at that one.  I was included with the family yesterday.

As for a gift, I decided to get her a "then and now" book about Washington, DC. It shows photos from many years ago alongside photos of the same street, etc. from today.

Watching Back to Brooklyn, thinking that last year at this time I was preparing for my European trip to see Ms. S.

This year I'm preparing for my trip to Buffalo!

Of course I'm looking forward to seeing DR Kate and my other relatives.  My little great-nephew is about 18 months old and I'm sure he's changed a lot since I saw him at Christmas time.

A belated happy Sunday to all,

I know I've gone missing this week. it was a very difficult one and I didn't want to bring that in here. It was simply something to be weathered. The worst is over, so all is as well as can be.

BK, I've been reading your reports on Abner. Congrats on how well things are going. I'm not certain which night I'm coming, but I will be there. It all depends on the timing of certain auditions this week.

I hope everyone has had a great week. Onward and upward.   :D

With so many spoilers out there due to the internet you are lucky to feel this way.  I rarely read mysteries as a child and had to check the end of a Nancy Drew books to be sure everything would be ok, and of course they were.  Aside from that I rarely want to know.  The last book I read I did go to the end hoping to learn enough to skip the last 10 chapters of the book.  Unfortunately it didn't tell me enough and I had to finish reading the book-lol

DR Vixmom I'm not sure why you call it the " dreaded  bone density".  It is about the easiest test around.

It was actually "the dreaded mammogram  and not dreaded  bone density"

Congrats to The Vixter!  It sounds like she has a good, fun job there, among good, fun people.  Very lucky.

I think we talked about this once but it didn't sink in.  It's Texas Road House, the national chain?  I didn't even know it was a chain until I saw them in a couple of places.  We don't have one right here, but I see they're in two places that are half an hour away, and it looks like there's one right where I'm going for that matinee today.  I won't be eating there today, but I want to get to one soon.

Yes it is the chain -  I never heard of it until they started  building the one down the block.  I suspect we would be regulars even if the Vixter hadn't been hired to work there, the food is always good, service impeccable and the prices are quite reasonable. If you are a steak lover I highly recommend it

Vibes of all sorts to Elmore.

I am so sorry to hear this.  I suppose they will have to go and find jobs now - after having been  business owners for many years  that may be a jarring experience and the incentive needed to  sell the property

Most of the young men were in traditional black tie. I remember that when I went to prom, the latest thing was a pastel ruffly front (not sure what you call it, or if it even has a name?) that attached to the front of the shirt. None of those in evidence yesterday.

The Daisy Mae costume was a bit of a fail as you can see.  They waited too long to even begin it, from what I understand.  Maddy was very uncomfortable in it and I, of course, want my polka dots.  So, Maddy and her mom are making their own costume and we'll see if we all like it tomorrow - if not, then costumes will build one we do like.
