Well, you've read the notes, the notes squeezed the Charmin, and now it is time for you to post until the squeezing the Charmin cows come home.

Good morning, all!  Physical therapy this morning. I expect at some point while I am out and about that I will encounter my super.

When I get home, I will email my landlord, so that there is an email trail about this situation.

I enjoyed the commercials.

Morning, everyone!

My condolences to DR singdaw on your loss. May the day soon come that you find more joy in her memory than you do pain in her absence.

TOD: Haven't seen a blessed video in months, thanks to the new arrival. On ye olde iPod: lectures on Jewish mysticism. On the nightstand: a couple of Terry Pratchett novels. From the little free library: R.M. Lumiansky's prose version of Canterbury Tales

TOD 2: Favorite TV spot was probably the "Noah's Neighbors" Reese's ad.

MBarnum: I retook the sleep test last weekend for the about the same reason you referred to yesterday. I learned a couple of tricks that have helped somewhat, but I'm still waiting to hear from the doctor about the rest.
Title: Re: PLEASE, DON'T SQUEEZE THE CHARMIN
Post by: singdaw on June 20, 2014, 09:02:42 AM
When I took the home sleep test (not terribly accurate, but the darned insurance company wouldn't pay for a lab test), it determined that my body was waking itself up 15+ times per hour, which is on the less severe side of the scale. With the CPAP machine, that number has been reduced to less than 2.

I did not use the machine last night, as the suction would interfere with the healing of the toothless socket. And boy, can I tell the difference today!      :P

DR JohnG, I meant to ask if you are currently using a mask or the nasal pillows. I was thinking in one of your recent posts you mentioned about possible switching to the nasal pillows.

Anyway, any tricks you have learned, please pass them on!!

I am home from physical therapy.  I got into a Facebook battle with a former employer John Yap this morning. I was quite embarrassed about it, but he managed as he usually does to turn it from promoting his recordings to a personal attack.

And on a happier note, the super is here to work on the ceiling. Things seem pleasant enough. Perhaps the landlord used discretion in addressing the issue and perhaps the super needed time to cool down?

Excellent.

I haven't had RC (Royal Crown Cola, for those young and silly enough to be unaware of what the letters stand for) in many years.  In fact, very likely not since my teen years.  We had it in the house now and then in Florida, so, early 1960s.  At some point I committed my life to Coca-Cola and never looked back.

However ... Just a few nights ago I was enjoying all the product-placement views of RC in some movie.  What was it?  THE MECHANIC?  Not sure.  Anyway, it made me really want to taste it for old time's sake.  And now, BK's commercial.  It must be a sign!  So, as God is my witness, I will pick some up today.

Lately when I've gone biking around the lake the geese and their family seem to always be in odd spots.  They get out of the lake and walk across the path.

Well yesterday was one of the funnier things I've seen them do.  When I biked around the path the first time they were on the grass on the other side of the path (away from the water). And when I biked around again they were walking in a big line (maybe 20 of them).  They were crossing the path to get to the lake. It looked so funny.

DR Jennifer - it is not awaking in the normal sense of being alert. It is more your brain stimulating your body to re-open your air passages. You are not aware, in hindsight, that you were "awake," but it DOES prevent your body from falling into the restorative (deep) REM sleep.

DR Jane, I believe it is much better to have the sleeping test done at the hospital or wherever it is done in your area. I worry that you are so anxious about it, that you will never have it done.

It hasn't been anxiety that has kept me from doing it, just that not one single doctor has suggested it.  The closest I got was the doctor who had Keith watch me while I sleep.  Keith has never noticed any thing off, not that everyone has obvious symptoms.  Much of my problem is that I'm wide awake, which is why I read so much, or nightmares wake me.

Keith has been having problems with his elbow which has forced him to sleep on his back instead of his side.  It was funny because while trying to fall asleep in that position he feared he would hear me groaning and keep him awake.  I must really groan a lot ;D

I found another commercial - a really popular one.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42JiH4NMvWI

I remember years ago, my mom used to buy RC Cola.  Then she bought some Diet Rite (the diet version of RC Cola) and it was the first diet cola that I liked.  At some point I tried diet Pepsi and liked that even more, and have been drinking DP ever since.  I haven't had diet Rite in a long time, so I don't know if I would still like it as much.  I don't mind diet Coke from a fountain, but I don't care for it when it's from a can.  And I don't like ANY regular (non-diet) cola, at all anymore.  They all just taste too syrupy-sweet, but I don't mind other non-diet sodas (root beer, lemon-lime, orange).  Go figure.

I didn't explain it very well. As Singdaw says it isn't necessarily waking up, but you stop breathing, in my case now, 1 or 2 times an hour (without the CPAP machine it would be around 10 to 15 times an hour).

Although when you start gasping for air that does often wake you up, but you are so used to it that you don't remember waking up. Anyway, you never get into a deep sleep like other people do. And I would always wake up with a headache from lack of oxygen to my brain.

The super just left and my bathroom ceiling is up. It needs plastering and painting and that will hopefully happen on Monday. He also checked out my stove and told me he'd have management send a repairman.

I think things are okay, although inwardly he may want me made into a rug, but I'll let him finish the work and then give him a thank you gift. Until this whole thing began we got along very nicely, and i do not dislike him or his family I just wanted the work done.

Royal Crown Cola.

Very nice commercial....I remember that one, too!

Royal Crown Cola was the closest thing to Coca Cola in Louisa, KY, when we visited by dad's mother, so we drank it.  It wasn't bad, kind of like HoJo Cola at Howard Johnson's as I recall.

R.C. Cola and Baby Ruth candy bars were common fare in gas stations in the south when I was a kid.  My mom said that was something her grandfather would get her and my Aunt Doris when they were little girls as a special treat.

A memory I have:  My dad pronounced "r" as "ara".  Many folks in Virginia did and he was from Virginia.  Some folks in SC did, as well.  I once heard him ask for an R-O-C Cola....or so I thought.  My mom told me later he had asked for an "Ara C Cola".  I've never forgotten this.

Sometimes I gasp for air but only right after I have fallen asleep, occasionally multiple times in a row.  Once I stay asleep it takes a vivid nightmare to make me gasp awake. ;D

I used to love Tab when it was made with saccharine, a flavor I guess I developed a taste for as a kid. I still like Diet IBC root beer because it's made with saccharine.

Soda/Pop is just so very bad for you.  If I treat myself I try not to finish even the little can.  The way I see it, it is a savings to buy the smaller cans and drink it less often.  Actually, until they came out with the smaller cans I never purchased it anymore and I was better off for it.

Cilla, when I lived in Virginia, keeping the basement dry was so much trickier than it seemed it should be. The former owners had installed a sump pump and that took care of most of it, but why there was any leakage at all is still a mystery to me, given that several workmen had done their best. Ground water? I don't know. But if your parents' company can successfully take care of it I'm impressed.

As long as they don't jump out in front of your bike they are fun to watch.

Today they did something I've never seen before. They were camped out on the bike path. They are always in the water, around the water or on grass across the bike path.  The worst part is that they poop a lot.

Anyhow I had to get off my bike and slowly inch forward. That made them all walk off the path.

I don't get why he would be mad at you. You waited patiently for months. Anybody else would have gone over his head a long time ago.

On a lighter note, here is one of my TOD favorites - the old ubiquitous Milford Plaza commercial:

former DR William F Orr and I stood across the street and watch them film the final sequence of that commercial  --- could it have possibly been the day we went to see Nine?

Last week of school here has had lots of fun activities. Yesterday was a carnival. Today the class went swimming for 2 hours, then had a picnic at the park. Then played.  I don't remember not doing anything the last week of school.

Well, I suppose I shall be on my way for a late-night meal of some sort.  I had a chicken salad sandwich for lunch so I can have something light tonight.
