Hope your dental adventures are progressing without problems.

My tooth extraction last week has altered the way I eat for a while. I now chew on the right side and I place things in my mouth with a fork or spoon or my fingers (when I break up large pieces of food) instead of just biting. No sandwiches or burgers or other kinds of food that I would usually just bite and chew. I have to cut things into smaller pieces so I don't use the extraction site to bite and chew. That would cause undue pressure on the site and possibly harm the "wound". I've been eating jello, yogurt, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes and other softer foods while I wean myself back to regular food. The tooth was in the front, not either of the front teeth but one next to the front and I have to be careful of how I eat and chew while the extraction site heals (2 to 3 months). Once it's healed over the dentist will continue with work on a bridge (no implant). Until then I will have two other teeth repaired.

Sorry to hear that, DR Ben.  What a pain!  (no pun intended).

I just had my last in a series of dental appointments last week. All of my extractions and crowns and fillings were at the very back of my mouth, so while inconvenient, not as jarring or disruptive as what you have experienced.

Most of the things I dislike on FACEBOOK are the things that MR BK has talked about in the notes.  It is sad that it has become and advertising behemoth so that we are bombarded with things to look at and like, etc.

I especially hate the posts that include a video or story and a headline that ends:  You won't believe what happens next....  or  ...Wait until you see this....  or  ....You MUST watch this....

I also have a FEW friends who continually post HUGE pictures of themselves and talk in minute detail about themselves....and nothing else....or "check in" every place they go.  Communication doesn't necessarily mean that I am interested in EVERY detail of your day.

A local - to Greencastle where the theatre is - young man was killed yesterday when the backhoe he was driving on the family farm overturned.  He was thrown from the cab, and the machinery landed on him.

Very sad - even sadder are the folks on Facebook who are making the accident all about their own feelings about the event.

Good morning, all!  Hopefully, the super will arrive later, check out the ceiling, and paint it.  Then, I will spend the remainder of the evening putting the bathroom back together. I'm hoping it's all finished today: I'd like to get to Toyland tomorrow to accomplish a few things.

So, yesterday afternoon, after a flurry of emails to everyone abut the July 22 date at the York, who was available and who wasn't, we got an email from the York saying there had been a schedule glitch and the date was no longer good: could we look at two alternate dates. So, my calendar's wide open; we'll see how it plays out.

I plan to continue tidying this dump today. I'm waiting for two final pieces from The man From Philadelphia to edit and add to the notes, and when that's in, I'll continue with that. Each day I run through the notes, trimming and revising, so I'll spend some time with that as well/

Ack! Ack!

Went to my dentist yesterday because one of my crowns came off.

She looked at it and said, "The build-up broke!  That's not supposed to happen!"

My dentist doesn't do endodontics.  This crown was placed on a build-up another dentist had done along with a root canal back in 2007 (she had referred me to this endodontist).  She got on the phone with his office and told them what happened.

I have an appointment this afternoon at that office for a continuation of "Why did this crown come off and why didn't the build-up hold?"

Sigh.

On the brighter side, my dentist was able to put something on the remaining build-up to protect my tongue which had been mercilessly exposed to a sharp edge since Saturday afternoon.

Am healing.

Why not a bottle of that stuff Elliott Templeton was raving about in front of Sophie in "The Razor's Edge":

"Żubrówka [ʐuˈbrufka] ( listen), also known in English as Bison Grass Vodka, is a dry, herb-flavored vodka that is distilled from rye and bottled at 40% alcohol by volume (80 proof). Its flavor is unique and is described as having woodruff, vanilla, coconut, and almond notes.

"The rye distillate is flavored with a tincture of bison grass (Hierochloe odorata), which also gives the spirit its yellowish color. This grass grows in the Białowieża Forest and elsewhere. A blade of bison grass is traditionally placed in each bottle of Żubrówka, though this is largely decorative."

What I hate on Facebook:  Someone posts an opinion and someone responds in an attacking manner with not just an opposite opinion but with character assassination as well.  And not for the person who posted the opinion but for everyone who thinks like he does.

Thank you, DR Ron Pulliam! I will investigate.

So, my super stopped by, said the plaster was still drying and that he'd finish things tomorrow. I can't tell, but what do i know about construction? It looks like i won't hit Toyland until Saturday now.

Speaking of plaster and paint and all such things drying, I'm in a similar process with a couple of columns (that makes them sound grandiose -- they're nothing of the sort) on my house.  They sorely needed repainting and the other day I starting sanding and (with the help of a knowledgeable friend of a friend) caulking, and now they're ready for a coat of primer.  I'll be doing that this afternoon, and if it dries in good time, I'll do a second coat.  Finally, the painting will happen.  When it happens.  Listen to me, I'm channeling DR Elmore's super!

Oy, the latest FB craze which has driven me absolutely bonkers is the non-stop array of "What Harry Potter Character are You?"-esque formula queries, the answers to which they determine in 6 or so random, multiple choice questions. I'll admit to doing a couple in the beginning when they first started to appear quietly, but now everyday there are 20 or more gorging the Newsfeed, asking anything and everything under the ridiculous sun:
What color Are you? What spirit animal are you? What kind of soul are you? What national park are you?... ad naseum.
You need a half-assed app to tell you who you are?  Yipes.  ::)

I'm just waiting for the next batch:
What kind of roadkill are you?
What disease are you?
And, of course - What kind of idiot are you to keep clicking these moronic posts?

On another topic:
BK, I saw that film, "Olympus Has Fallen". What a ridiculous mess that was. not believable for a minute. Just blowing up everything in sight. At least "White House Down" made a little more sense, even though it didn't make more money.  Oy again.

There was a tornado in my area about an hour and a half ago.....but it was north of my town by about a mile....so we are okay....no injuries reported....but some roofs have been blown away and patio furniture has found new homes on front porches down the street.  Of course the news has been pre-empting ALL regular programming since shortly after 2 p.m.

Only a mile??  Yikes!! :o

Very glad that you're okay, Jack!

You say Grenada, I say Granada... DR FJL could do wonders with this:

Man Sues British Airways... (http://time.com/2912187/man-sues-british-airways-for-sending-him-to-grenada-instead-of-granada/)

When the dentist received his E-ticket, didn't he notice a different spelling for Granada? Before i'd ever call for an airlines ticket, I'd go online and see what flights I was happiest with.

The ticket info also states how long the flight is.

DR elmore, Bryan gave Keith a bottle of Imperia Russian Vodka that, according to them both, is better than the popular Stolichnaya which Keith says you can't go wrong if you purchase it.  As for Keith's personal taste, he prefers Tito's Handmade Vodka which is made in Texas.

The Imperia bottle is very pretty.

Thanks for the booze suggestions. I have about a week to ponder the gift.

I walked to the bodega at 83rd and Amsterdam and about died from shock. About two months they cleared out the market, turned it into a deli with a lot of tables for lunch, and cleared out all their excellent stock of foodstuffs. That leaves just the bodega around the corner. I like them but their stock is always poor.  Whenever I go there for something definite, it's out of stock. Always.

Michael Brown died eleven days ago, I just learned on Facebook.  I had a chance to meet him about four years ago and the opportunity got by him. He may best be remembered for a song from NEW FACES OF 1952 that was later a hit for the Chad Mitchell trio. It went:
Oh, you can't chop your mama up in Massachusetts,
Even if you're tired of her cuisine.
No, you can't chop your papa up in Massachusetts;
You know it's certain sure to cause a scene.

He also wrote the caustic "John Birch Society," lyrics for THE HOUSE OF FLOWERS, and a lot of revue songs and a couple of children's books. I want to hear "Won't You Come home, Judge Crater."

Now, what few know is that Michael and his wife were friends of truman Capote, and they gave Harper Lee in 1956 an income for a year to write To Kill A Mockingbird, and for that alone he deserves sainthood.

After seeing a Facebook hint over the weekend, I received reliable confirmation this morning that my former co-worker Leon has passed away.  He was the nonprofit outreach librarian with whom I started working in 2000 and who handed me that job when he retired in 2003.  He was one-of-a-kind and will be sorely missed in the Dayton community.

Ginny, my condolences on the loss of your former co-worker.

I had a meatless Cobb salad for lunch, had a good and brief work session with John Boswell, and then spent three hours doing an edit road map for our next project or one of our next projects.  Two really fun scores on one CD by a composer I love - one has been out on LP (and an import CD) before, but the main score is a world premiere and it's great.

Tomorrow is the first swim meet of the summer (they are every Wednesday).  The main coach has been absent. And the replacement coaches (who don't seem that knowledgeable about how to sign swimmers up for the different strokes) decided that it was a good idea to put my niece and the best girl on the swim team in the same race.  It will be interesting to see if the main coach tells them that is a stupid idea (too late for tomorrow's meet).

In the summer the 8 and unders only swim 25m (in the winter they swim 50m). Hopefully they can find two people for their relay.

I guess that story that went viral on Facebook about the little girl asked to leave KFC because other customers were bothered by her face, which was scarred thanks to a pit bull attack is - guess what - completely bogus and a hoax.  Furthermore, what everyone failed to point out was that the pit bulls were owned by her grandfather.  KFC was threatened, spat upon and harangued by one and all - they apologized even though something smelled fishy about it, and also pledged 30K for the girls' surgeries.  They investigated (outside investigator), and it's a hoax - the family were never at the KFC as they said.  How much more of this crap will happen on Facebook?  I suppose now that in this country we're all guilty until proven innocent - that's sure the way this went down.  And it's certainly the way I've personally been treated for the last two months, so I get it.  But KFC is still giving the family the money - but I don't see all the little rush to judgment people posting that they're sorry they rushed to judgement and did all that lambasting.  No, they just disappear into the good night.  Blechhh.

From the beginning I read the dog belonged to the grandfather and that the grandmother had since divorced him.  I hoped it wouldn't prove to be a hoax.  I think all along KFC has shown class in their handling of this.

I haven't been wearing it at home but I wore it yesterday when I met a friend. We were together for a couple of hours and then had dinner at which point I had to take out the dental appliance (as they are called). It's a cosmetic tooth only and not built for chewing or biting or anything other than appearance.

It will come in handy in August when I go to a family reunion where I'm sure lots of pictures will be taken.

"here in Maryland our liquor sales are controlled by the county and Eastern European options are pretty limited. I believe we have two. I like a good palinca or tuica, both plum brandy, palinka generally stronger than tuica, but don't have any distillers for you."

Here's something else I wonder tonight:

I wonder why someone would contact a theater to say they're interested in auditioning for something, and when the theater works with them to find a time to come and have that audition, i.e., there's now an appointment for it ..... they don't show up and they don't call to say they can't make it or that they're sorry but they've changed their mind, or whatever the case may be.  They just don't show, and that's the last you hear from them.

I really have to wonder about this when it happens two weeks in a row, with two wholly unrelated people.  What, truly, are these people thinking when they do stuff like this?

What, truly, are these people thinking when they do stuff like this?

I can't fathom it, but from bk's reports, the behavior doesn't seem to be confined to the East Coast.      :P

How embarrassing!  Among all those classics, Tacoma Little Theatre's very recent BYE BYE BIRDIE!

Speaking of FB.....

Bruce, how do you know Wendy Temple?

I sadly learned, from FB, today that one of my all time favorite teachers passed away last year.  He was Jerry Urfrig at Palms Jr. High.  I went to school with his sister Wendy Urfrig Temple.  Did you know her from Hami?

Yes, I knew Wendy VERY well.  There are things in Kritzer Time that are based on her - you wouldn't know which they were, though.  We were in touch briefly on Facebook.

Had an amazing ninety minute massage - she does what she calls deep tissue, which can be painful, but the result is unbelievable.  I am so tension-free right now it's not even funny.

Today is my dad's 86th birthday. They didn't do much to celebrate now because of Mom's dental problems. But they plan on going out this weekend.

Happy Birthday to John's father.

BK, in your discussion of things going viral, I am surprised you didn't mention all of the hoopla about the film version of INTO THE WOODS.  Last week everyone was in a tizzy because Sondheim had supposedly confirmed all these changes........no fling between The Baker's Wife and the Prince, Rapunzel doesn't die, and the loss of what many were calling the show's greatest song, "Any Moment."

They were calling for boycotts of everything Disney, letter-writing campaigns, etc.  Finally Sondheim has issued a statement saying he was completely misquoted.
