Good morning, all! Last night I took a Tylenol with codeine and slept very pleasantly and for quite a long time. Ut was nice.

Today, I need to call my Mac man set up an appointment. I think that several weeks ago I opened an attachment that I should not have. Late yesterday afternoon, a person with an accent called and asked for Mr Moore. When I tld him that I was he, the man asked me all these questions: was I aware spyware had been put on my camera? did I know people had access to all the sites I sent on? And I asked him, "And you know this because . . .?

He hung up. Now I'm very paranoid, so I'm calling my Mac Mechanix.

Sounds like a creepy phone call, Larry.

I wonder - When they say there's spyware on your camera, does that mean someone's watching you or just seeing what sites you visit?

I have no plans for today, which is kinda nice. Tomorrow, I have a trup to Toyland, Sandy's act, and visits with DRs ChasSmith and vixmom, not to mention the vixter and her boy friend.

My oven is screwed up. Still. The pilot light refuses to work, and I need to track down the super.  It worked while the repairman was here, so I'm assuming the problems is me and not the oven's pilot light.

DR JRand63, enjoy your freedom!  I had a call about a possible job last week from a good friend, but until it's set, it's only a pipe dream. The person behind the project has great dreams, and I can only hope that, unlike the poster boy Man from Philadelphia, this fellow is not guilty of counting unhatched chickens.

Yesterday was one more in the last three weeks of ROBERTA tsuris. I still have no idea what it all means for an October release.

I doubt they are watching me personally since there was no mention of any camera, just looking for something online to steal. Or blackmail. I guess.

I'm a bit surprised about needing anything on a Mac other than their usual security updates.

Exactly, but a couple of months ago, and I'll blame half on my crippled and drugged out state and half on my own stupidity, I opened a site from the US Postal Service that was not theirs. I believe I allowed someone in I should not, just like a vampire.  About two weeks ago, all these popups that I could not block started appearing like  plague of locusts. No matter what I did to block a popup, they kept on coming. I knew something was wrong. Then, yesterday's phone call really freaked me out.

My Mac Mechanic suggested this:

I had a similar problem when I was still at work today.  I knew that I was leaving soon and figured that the problem would sort itself out eventually, so I didn't mention it.  Glad it's all better...for me, at least.  I hope Jane's computer is okay.

I don't have the fastest connection, however, if that had been the problem it would have been the same wherever I went on the internet.  My issues were only here.  I found clicking on reload helped.

Have any DR"S read these and do they have any recommendations for me?

Neither of those books appealed to me so I haven't read them.  People I know who read LOVING FRANK really liked it.

Did you join Goodreads?  If so invite me as a friend.  I have often read a book of interest after seeing how my friends rate it (invite me to be a friend if you like).  If nothing else it is a good way to browse books.

My oven is screwed up. Still. The pilot light refuses to work, and I need to track down the super.  It worked while the repairman was here, so I'm assuming the problems is me and not the oven's pilot light.

Larry and I both seem to be caught in the REPAIRED-BUT-STILL-NOT-FIXED vortex. I am reminded that repairpersons should test appliances before they leave and be sure that said appliances work for the tenants, not just the repairpersons. In the case of "my" plumber, I'm always anxious to see the back of him. When he says, "I KNOW it's fixed" I tend to cave because I'm not eager to fight with him. But I KNOW he's a jerk and not necessarily correct.

Although I've never been one to put bones down garbage disposals, I've known many people who do so regularly with no problems. I usually purchase medium-grade disposals for my homes. They last 10-15 years and I have little or no problems. I've been in this apartment for four years. This is the second time the disposal has been replaced. Both kitchen and bathroom faucets have been replaced and started looking old and worn in less than a year. I believe it's because they buy the cheapest items available. There may have been a time when you could do that, but today so much is coming from China and much of it is poor quality. False economy, IMO.

In my reading, i am currently stuck in England in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. I'm running through Anne Perry's Charlotte and Thomas Pitt mysteries, and I'm up to the tenth or so, Bethlehem Road. I like the recurring characters a lot, especially Charlotte's sister Emily and her great-aunt Vespasia.

For my bus reading, I've got Georgiana and I am currently in thrall with Longbourn, which is a spin on Pride and Prejudice from the viewpoint of the servants, Hill, Mrs. Hill, Polly, Sarah, and James, the Downstairs to Austen's Upstairs. It's much grubbier and grittier than Austen.

I'm sure the quality they use is the cheapest they can find.

On a happier note, I recently discovered the BBC series DEATH IN PARADISE. Quite fun. A lighthearted crime series with a very uptight British detective living on a very relaaxxxxed Caribbean island.

My brother likes this show.  I don't believe we get it.

Mary Linda arrived about 10:30 with a carload and Allie (cat).  Rob followed about 90 minutes later in the U-haul truck with 3 helpers (2 paid, 1 volunteer friend).  Everything was unloaded by 1:30 and we had lunch from The Jug.  The helpers left, Rob went to return the truck and pick up some odds & ends from the apartment, and Mary Linda went to buy a baby kitty gate for the top of the stairs.

I didn't know you are going to have a cat living with you.  I hope there will be lots of photos.

Back from lunch at the Kansas City Barbecue with Doug Haverty.  First time back since the remodeling of the interior - now we have a new name, The Barbecue Bar, steel tables and I found it very off-putting.  No more sauce on the tables in the plastic squeeze bottles, a very fatty sandwich, but Doug's ribs looked very good.

My eBook library has many Anne Perry books.  I put a hold on the first one in the Pitt series, "The Cater Street Hangman"

Why do you have a different book for the bus?  The only thing I can imagine is one book is heavier than the other-lol

T.O.D.

102 MINUTES (The Unforgettable Story of the Fight to Survive Inside the Twin Towers) by Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn.

I found it a very touching and moving book.  The way it was told, it reminded me very much of Walter Lord's A NIGHT TO REMEMBER.  For many, it may be too soon, but it is a valuable book to have.

We may have to install a door at the top of the stairs, which would also require installing a second window fan.  The whole-house fan is now in Rob and Mary Linda's living room and closing that door would prevent any air circulation downstairs.

A screen across it would be needed, if it is tall enough.  I saw a number of tall cat doors that would only have prevented one old fat cat from going over it.  All the others would have been fine-lol

Finished with the mix listening - 90% great, and just a few minor noises to get rid of and one vocal to bring out a teeny bit more in one song.  That's it.  My recommendation is going to be one more one-hour horn date the first week of August to do just a few more fixes - that's the 10% I could live with but know can be better.

Ask if she also does the rinse.

I've known people with allergies to cats that didn't even know I had any.  Bryan doesn't plan to have a cat because of his allergies though he wouldn't shut his bedroom door at home to keep them out.  It wasn't until he moved out of the house he truly understood why I told him to keep the door shut-you know, he wanted to sleep with them.

The screen may be enough since your living space is down the stairs.  There will be hair & dander on their clothes when they walk downstairs even if the cat is upstairs.  I would think a solid door won't make a big difference.  The cat can see out and air can circulate up there.

I have begun going through this humungous boxed set of Philippe Entremont recordings on Columbia - many, many discs - the sound is much improved from some of the single releases I have.  While I know many of the included piano concertos and pieces, there are an equal number I'm not familiar with so this is a real treat.  First disc as the Grieg concerto in A minor and Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.  These recordings are really wonderful.  I gather that Mr. Entremont, although hugely popular, was not taken that seriously by classical aficionados, which, of course, is the usual stuff and nonsense.  He's wonderful and the playing of the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy is amazing.  I gather that Ormandy also was not top tier to some - but since he was the first conductor I was aware of, I gravitated to all his recordings as a teenager.  And frankly I've not often heard better.  I really only knew the first famous movement of the Grieg, but the other two movements are gorgeous.

Listening to the Ravel in G major - since I just heard this last week from my old Sony CD I have to say the difference in sound quality is breathtaking - like the other was taken from a dupe of a dupe and this from the original master.  Stunning.
