Title: KRITZERLAND AT STERLING'S 49
Post by: bk on September 08, 2014, 12:03:02 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland at Sterling's 49, and now it is time for you to post until the Kritzerland cows come home.

We're already live at Kritzerland:

Kritzerland is proud to present a new Studio Cast Recording 2-CD set:

AND THE WORLD GOES ROUND
The Songs of Kander and Ebb

World Premiere Recording of the complete show!

They met in 1962.  They had their first Broadway show in 1965 and their first Broadway smash hit in 1966.  They currently have the longest running revival in history still on Broadway, packing in the crowds.  They were one of the most amazing musical theatre songwriting teams in history – they were simply known as Kander & Ebb.

Back in 1991, a bunch of talented artists came together to create a musical revue based on the songs of Kander & Ebb.  They were director Scott Ellis, choreographer Susan Stroman and writer David Thompson.  With musical director, David Loud, they created what the New York Times called “An unexpected delight: A handsome, tasteful, snazzily staged outpouring of song and dance that celebrates all the virtues of the Kander-Ebb catalogue, while scrupulously avoiding most of the cloying clichés of and-then-I-wrote anthologies.”

Audiences flocked to the show, which opened on March 18, 1991 at the newly renovated Westside Arts Theatre, where it played for 408 performances.  After closing, the show had a ten-month national tour.  It won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical Revue.  The show has been steadily produced all over the world ever since.  The original 1991 RCA cast album was a truncated version of the show on one CD.  It was missing quite a bit of material and it also had expanded orchestrations done especially for that recording.  For this brand new recording, we used the show’s original orchestrations and this new 2-CD set is a complete version of the entire show from start to finish.  As a bonus, we’ve also included the various playoffs for certain songs.

This new studio cast recording features a stellar and brilliant cast: Brent Barrett, Kyra Da Costa, Jason Graae, Christiane Noll and Kristin Towers-Rowles.  Musical direction is by Joshua Eli Kranz, and the album is produced by Bruce Kimmel.

And The World Goes Round – this 2-CD set is specially priced at $23.98, plus shipping.

CDs will ship by the third week of October, but we’ve been averaging three to five weeks early in terms of shipping ahead of the official ship date.  To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

WONDERFUL show today at Kritzerland, bravo to you all!  Hard to state favorites but I do love the "What If" songs --
you deserve to relax now, so DO!

Favorite cookie would have to be my grandmother's peanut blossoms which had Hershey kisses in the middle.  Fallback when no homemade cookies were available, were always Girl Scout chocolate mint cookies :-)

In Canada there were called whippets, The base was a cookie with a marshmallow on top which was covered by chocolate. There was only one way to eat. 1) break the chocolate up and eat it piece by piece 2) then the marshmallow 3) Then the cookie.

It took longer to eat than an "Oreo" which I also enjoyed.

Oreo also had what I called a "decadent" version chocolate covered.

To the best of my memory, my mother wasn't adventurous in the baking department so store-bought cookies are probably what I grew up with.  Oreos, Fig Newtons, Vanilla Wafers (were the Nabisco ones actually called "Nilla" back then? I don't remember that), Graham Crackers (I'd guess we considered those more a cookie than a cracker).  We must have had chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, and peanut butter, but I can't bring any picture to mind of what brand those might have been.

So, anyway, favorites?  I think on the day we were talking about Fig Newtons I said I always ate them but they were never a real thrill, so ..... I really don't know.  Oreos, certainly.  But DR lechienfou reminds me of the most special treat:  Girl Scout Cookies, with the chocolate mint ones being the number one favorite.

By the way, the premade dough you buy in the store -- that makes darn good cookies.

I never had a store-bought cookie until I was in first grade. It was Christmas time and everyone was supposed to bring in cookies to share. Well, I chose several beautiful cookies, sat down and bit into one. It was atrocious. And as this was a Lutheran grade school, we had to eat everything on our plates, just as we had to do at home. I was ready to cry. It was a long time before I ever had a store-bought cookie after that.

In adult years, I like deep-fried Oreos.

Agree.  Even if I haven't done that in years now.  Makes me want to run right out and get some, actually.

I do buy some of the modern-day fresh baked cookies found in stores now, but there's enough variation in how they're prepared that, having tried them from various chains, it's hard to remember which I liked and which were disappointing.  (They all LOOK good, and in cookies you just can't go by that.)

I do not like store bought cookies very much. Almost the only one I will eat is black forest whippets.  It is similar to the regular whippets but the bottom has a chocolate base and the filling is cherry.  is this not sold in the US?

I don't know of them, but I don't buy cookies often. Sorry, but the whippet part makes it sound like a dog treat. The cookie itself sounds really good, though. Love chocolate and cherries.

I've never had a deep-fried Oreo.  But, I'm going to the fair today, so who knows what deep-fried deliciousness I'll have. :D

I know nothing about Russian history. :-\ I am more interested in the movie-making aspect...mainly the fact that it's a single shot.  My dad is interested in both the single shot and the history aspect.  He loves history.  After he retired from the army, he got a BA in history. :)

Happy Monday, all!

I'll admit to be a bit exhausted myself after yesterday's Kritzerland marathon, but it was SOOO worth it. What a great show! Both audiences loved it, everyone was on their game and then some.

BK, I am so glad you talked me into doing "Joey, Joey, Joey". Richard Sherman gave me the ultimate compliment on that last night, saying it was the best version he'd ever heard, because the story it told was so clear in the delivery. I was so very honored.

And of course, I cannot thank you enough for asking me to sing "Finishing the Hat" again. It was a gift from the theater gods... and of course, the Kritzerland god.  :D

And Bravo to you, BK, in putting together such a wonderful collection of music and laughter and entertainment. I loved being a small part of it.

My grandfather always had a pair of brown Whippets when I was growing up.  They were very calm and sweet.  The calmness was probably due to the fact my grandfather walked them for miles and miles every day.

I was often amazed the places my mother & I would see him walking as we drove past.  We never stopped and he didn't see us but it was fun to spy him. :)  He died just before his 100th birthday.  I think he would have made to 100 if he hadn't had two events that slowed him down drastically.  First he was mugged (dogs couldn't keep up with him anymore) and second he was hit by a car.  The last time I saw him he was using a walker and I took him for a walk.  He glowed he was so happy.

We went to Rite-Aid and they had remodeled the store.  It looks great only the chemicals from the work need to air out a bit more.  Between the smoke and the store I wasn't sure I should be getting a vaccination, but I did anyway.  I feel fine.

I had to laugh - Broadway World put up our new release announcement.  At the top of the page it says vote for your favorite recordings from this year.  One of the categories is best favorite solo album of all time.  Visit and look at the list and tell me what's wrong with that picture.  I'll tell you - any list that does not include any of Liz Callaway's solo albums is a list made by idiots.  Not to mention Laurie Beechman or, well, you name it, basically.  Why they do these stupid popularity flavor of the month contests is beyond me.  But the omissions, and not only stuff I've produced for some of the best singing artists ever, is shocking.

I rarely eat store bought cookies and I can't find Mallomars here, which is ok because good marshmallows are made with gelatin & that is animal.

Oreo's are finally made without animal but have Palm Oil which I try to avoid as to harvest Palm Oil we are destroying the rain forest.

Thanks to one brave Girl Scout I can safely eat their cookies but I only buy one box of Mint Thins vs the multiple boxes I used to buy, and eat.

that is a Mallomar!  I just bought a package of them for the Vixter tonight  they are not sold here in the summer months so they have just come "back in season" and were on sale

I do not like store bought cookies very much. Almost the only one I will eat is black forest whippets.  It is similar to the regular whippets but the bottom has a chocolate base and the filling is cherry.  is this not sold in the US?

I have never heard of these  I would have tried one when I was in Canada

Good morning. Thanks to the National Weather Service and their emergency warning system waking me up, I knew it was raining during the night. I guess rain in Arizona is an emergency.

maybe they thought you would all like to go outside and eat pancakes

Mr. Bubble
In the tub'll
Make you squeaky clean!

Originally, the last two lines of the song were:

My name is Mr. Bubble,
But you can call me "Pop."

Parents groups were horrified, so the song was changed to:

My name is Mr. Bubble,
And you can watch me pop.

I got the old person's pneumonia vaccination today.  They asked if I wanted a flu shot but I turned it town.  I'm only risking one reaction at a time.

We went to Rite-Aid and they had remodeled the store.  It looks great only the chemicals from the work need to air out a bit more.  Between the smoke and the store I wasn't sure I should be getting a vaccination, but I did anyway.  I feel fine.

I got the quad flu shot.  Apparently you can get on against three strains of flu or four strains of flu.  To me that was a no brainer

I don't know if it is hidden behind the paywall or not, but here is the NY Times article on Joan Rivers's memorial service yesterday:

Did the Times really have to explain that Matthew Broderick is the husband of Sarah Jessica Parker?

I can't believe how crazy things have gotten.  Mondays are always like that, but this one was.....well....I got all the billing done, got a major project in the mail and had a number of things happen I wasn't expecting.  Nothing bad, just chaotic.  Hopefully tomorrow will calm down somewhat.

I'd say the first day's orders for the new CD were slightly disappointing - it did well, but not nearly as well as first days for even the reissues we've done, like Follies and A Time for Singing.

Oh, my goodness...and the Favorite All Time Cast Recording frontrunner is "Heathers: The Musical (World Premiere Cast Recording)"?

WTF?? ???

:o

Michael -- ya killing me!  After reading about Montreal and Whippets -- had to give the family a call this afternoon.  Now, if you mentioned "Pet d' Soeur" -- I may have really lost it.  My Tante Irene made them once a year.  My italian side would always want to dip them in Nutella.

Topic of the Day:

I always liked store-bought chocolate chip cookies, but I wasn't partial to any specific brand.  Although, cookie dough that you bake at home was better than already baked cookies.  Otherwise, I've always loved Oreos.
