Well, you've read the notes, the notes were comped, and now it is time for you to post until the comped cows come home.

Wednesday morning greetings!  Looks like I forgot to log out last night before I dozed off watching THE ROOSEVELTS - sorry.  Think we're still a little jet-lagged - waking up early and going to sleep early.  Maybe a nap this afternoon will help...

Good morning. I spent the last few days visiting with a certain merchandise manager for a touring show.

Or as I told people, "I am going to Las Vegas to meet a man I met on the internet."

I picked up our truant Jason in Las Vegas the morning after the show ended, and we visited the Grand Canyon on his travel day. I got him to town several hours before the start of the show here in town.

Good morning, all!  Today's plans today have fallen apart completely. I went to bed at 9:30, and i was still wide awake at 2:45 this morning. Around 1:00am, i started reading the Richard Rodgers letters to Dorothy about the rehearsals for Chee-Chee. which put a lie to the John McGlinn theory published in Kimball's Complete Lyrics of Lorenz Hart that "Dear Oh Dear" replaced the secondary couple's "If I Were Your Concubine."

At some time after 3, I finally fell asleep.  I must make a trip to the post office today, but i will not be going to Toyland. I guess that will happen tomorrow.

As for me, I am very sleepy and completely puzzled by last night's sleep problem.

Only slept three hours and can't seem to fall back asleep.  I'll try in an hour or so.  Part of the problem was a raging headache last night, which stemmed from comping the vocals - as I said, it's fun but painstaking and intense.

Jrand - I don't remember the first time I did Banjo in 1966, but I was young and probably just hung out and joked during the first two acts and two intermissions.  The second time I did it, in the late 70s or early 80s, I didn't even show up to the theater until after act one.  I spent act two getting in make-up and costume and was ready for act three.

I think I'd have more to say if  this heat would ease up.  My favorite status today on Facebook came form Janet Miller - "When Theatricals use the term, 'Hell Week,' we do not expect the weather to follow suit."

Oh it's just a temporary color. Not sure which one, I just noticed the box up there when I was looking for something last night. I used to color my hair a lot but haven't done that in a long time.  Thought it might be a fun change

It is hard to find a temp color in a store, at least it has been for me.  Something that just got the grey out would be interesting to try, if it exists.

We had like a two second power outage here.  Everything came right back up instantly except, of course, the computer, the router and the modem.  Got the computer started again, but Time Warner naturally was unable to handle a two second power outage and seemingly with never a back-up plan available, went down for an hour.  It just came back up.

Looks like My Fair Lady will get the 50th anniversary Blu-ray treatment on December 9th.

Bruce:  Regarding this reissue of "MFL" on Blu ray....I've read some posts at HTF that suggest Robert Harris supervised this one, but I've seen nothing that corroborates that.

Do you know?

Never mind.  I found the thread where he indicates he has been slaving over it and that we will be astonished.

We have been busy sorting through clothing to donate to the town of Weed, CA, just an hour away from us.  The town has suffered from a large fire which included the loss of 150 structures, mostly homes.  A lumber mill, and largest employer, is pretty damaged.  The library is gone, a Catholic church and part of the elementary school.

I'm very impressed with the quick response in Southern California to help them.  After sorting clothes, shoes and a few other things I have read they don't really need clothes anymore.  Now I have to rethink what to take.  We have two large suit cases in the garage they should want.  I need to clean them up and double check they work.

I usually have a stock pile of unopened toiletries, not today.

Odile is the wicked daughter of the sorceror Von Rothbart in Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake. She is played by the prima ballerina who also plays Odette, the Swan Queen.

And her cousin Ottillie was Diahann Carroll's name in the musical, "House of Flowers."

Today at work, we had our annual All Staff Training Day.  We had a key note speaker and we each had to pick three break-out sessions.  I went to the room for my first session but I didn't realize that they moved some of the sessions to different rooms and what I went to was not what I had signed up for.  Oh, well.  It's not as if they were taking specific attendance for each session. ;)
Title: Re: THE COMPS
Post by: George on September 17, 2014, 10:57:41 PM
It was really good, anyway.  The author, Jennie Shortridge (http://www.jennieshortridge.com/), spoke about her books (of course), and her mother's mental illness.  One of her books, "Riding With the Queen," is sort of based on her situation, but it wasn't exactly autobiographical...it was highly fictionalized, but it was almost inspired by her life.
Title: Re: THE COMPS
Post by: George on September 17, 2014, 11:00:04 PM
The second session was about what else to suggest that people read if they like a certain author or style or genre.  It was also very good, but since I don't work with the public, it wasn't very useful to me.
Title: Re: THE COMPS
Post by: George on September 17, 2014, 11:03:42 PM
I didn't go to the third session that I signed up for, but what I did go to was where employees gave a five-minute speech with a power-point presentation (they were limited to 20 slides) about what they're passionate about, and it didn't need to be work related.  They were all good.  One co-worker talked about the children's theater that she's been involved with and another talked about her having epilepsy.  They were all upbeat and short.  It was a good ASTD day.

We had raffle prizes.  My ticket didn't actually win, but the woman sitting next to me gave me her ticket right after they announced her numbers!  She didn't really want it, so I got it.  It was a brown fleece blanket with fake fur on the back side.  It also has a log cabin embroidered on one corner.  It's really nice.

When I left the ASTD, I went to my parents' house because it turns out that I gave my dad a movie on a burned DVD-R that didn't work.  So, I got it back and will either re-burn the copy that I kept for myself or just buy it for him.  It's not too expensive.

After I left my parents' house, I went to the Costco by their house to see if they had either kitty treats or Barbra's "Partners" album.  They had neither.  I went to the Lacey Target store and I bought the special edition CD from there.  The Lacey Target is right next to Kohl's so I decided (remembered, actually) to see if they had any pillows that I might like.

I actually got two because they were having a 50% off sale (buy-one-get-one-free)!  AND the coupon was another 30% off that.  So, instead of paying $140, the two pillows only cost me $51 and change!  I saved about $91!
Title: Re: THE COMPS
Post by: George on September 17, 2014, 11:33:54 PM
I bought two because if I like one (I only need one at a time), then I'll have another one when the first one gets too old.  If I don't really like it, I can still take back one because I won't have used it at all.  I have to let the one I do try air out before I use it, so I probably won't try to sleep on it until the weekend when I don't have to get up early if I can't get to sleep easily.

Back from comping session two - only did three songs, one of which took most of the time - it was funny to me - the song, when you hear it, seems like it would be really easy to sing, but it is deceptively hard - point being, I wrote it for me to sing in a musical of mine and it sits in my voice perfectly.  But a woman's voice is something wholly other so this one wasn't easy for Sandy - but we got it great and it was worth being painstaking with it.  The other two went fairly quickly.

BwayAnge, a very happy birthday to your little Cow Poke, Tyler!

Thanks!  Tyler (and his friends) are a shining star from the younger generation.  Very kind and caring -- mentors an even younger generation at via his church's skate park.  After their weekly fellowship, part of the parking lot turns into a mini-skate park.

Tyler's regular job is in the marketing department for the local budweiser distributor.  Plus, he plays bass guitar in a band called "Heralds of the Sword" -- it's more like a rock opera.  He and his band mates have created this world ala Lord of the Rings meets Robin Hood meets Trans Sibera Orchestra.  Check out their website:  www.heraldsofthesword.com

The keyboard player's Mom and I go to all their shows, wearing ear plugs, of course.  They have even played the Whiskey a Go Go in Hollywood three times.

BTW, Tyler is in Blue, on the end to the right.
