Actually having a good day.  I bought a ticket to the Mythbusters live show in December here in SC

It looks like there are  a lot of tickets left.  That surprised me a bit, but then I'm pretty nerdy

I love "Mythbusters"...even though I don't watch the show regularly.  I'd love to see them live!

Tonight is band rehearsal.  Looking forward to it, even if I do sit between two music teachers who have never heard of a ton of standards and musicals.  I still don't get how you become a music teacher/director without being exposed to musical theater or standards

It still makes me laugh, I know it's stupid, but it really makes me laugh

Today at work, we had our annual All Staff Training Day.  We had a key note speaker and we each had to pick three break-out sessions.  I went to the room for my first session but I didn't realize that they moved some of the sessions to different rooms and what I went to was not what I had signed up for.  Oh, well.  It's not as if they were taking specific attendance for each session.

It was really good, anyway.  The author, Jennie Shortridge, spoke about her books (of course), and her mother's mental illness.  One of her books, "Riding With the Queen," is sort of based on her situation, but it wasn't exactly autobiographical...it was highly fictionalized, but it was almost inspired by her life.

The second session was about what else to suggest that people read if they like a certain author or style or genre.  It was also very good, but since I don't work with the public, it wasn't very useful to me.

I didn't go to the third session that I signed up for, but what I did go to was where employees gave a five-minute speech with a power-point presentation (they were limited to 20 slides) about what they're passionate about, and it didn't need to be work related.  They were all good.  One co-worker talked about the children's theater that she's been involved with and another talked about her having epilepsy.  They were all upbeat and short.  It was a good ASTD day.

We had raffle prizes.  My ticket didn't actually win, but the woman sitting next to me gave me her ticket right after they announced her numbers!  She didn't really want it, so I got it.  It was a brown fleece blanket with fake fur on the back side.  It also has a log cabin embroidered on one corner.  It's really nice.

When I left the ASTD, I went to my parents' house because it turns out that I gave my dad a movie on a burned DVD-R that didn't work.  So, I got it back and will either re-burn the copy that I kept for myself or just buy it for him.  It's not too expensive.

After I left my parents' house, I went to the Costco by their house to see if they had either kitty treats or Barbra's "Partners" album.  They had neither.  I went to the Lacey Target store and I bought the special edition CD from there.  The Lacey Target is right next to Kohl's so I decided (remembered, actually) to see if they had any pillows that I might like.

As I was walking from Target to Kohl's, I saw my mom and her friend Mona walking out of Kohl's.  What a coinkydink!  She asked what I was doing there and I told her I was going to look at pillows. 

[George]

It turned out that she had a reusable 30% off coupon, but she had to pay for whatever it was used for.  So, I quickly went upstairs to the pillow section and found something that I hope will like. 

[George]

I actually got two because they were having a 50% off sale (buy-one-get-one-free)!  AND the coupon was another 30% off that.  So, instead of paying $140, the two pillows only cost me $51 and change!  I saved about $91!

[George]

I bought two because if I like one (I only need one at a time), then I'll have another one when the first one gets too old.  If I don't really like it, I can still take back one because I won't have used it at all.  I have to let the one I do try air out before I use it, so I probably won't try to sleep on it until the weekend when I don't have to get up early if I can't get to sleep easily.

And now I'm home, and have been for several hours.

I watched last night's "America's Got Talent" and was going to watch tonight's FINAL episode, but tonight's broadcast was completely pixilated and completely crappy!  WTF?? 

[George]

If I'd thought about it, I could've recorded the non-high-def channel (channel 5 instead of 105), but I was watching last night's episode as tonight's was recording. 

[George]

Anyway, it'll be on OnDemand tomorrow, so I can watch it then.  I did accidentally find out who won, though, so that won't be a surprise.

[George]

I've been watching "Ender's Game."  I actually liked the movie.  Very interesting and well done, I thought.

[George]

I recorded tonight's premiere episode of "The Mysteries of Laura," starring the new Lucille Ball, Debra Messing.

[George]

I'll have to watch it later.

It's raining and has been since I got home!  I wonder how long it'll last.
