Title: TURN BACK THE CLOCKS
Post by: bk on November 02, 2014, 12:26:54 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes turned back the clocks, and it is now time for you to post until the turned back cows come home.

Well, "TAO of the Dead 2" is finished.  Overall, it was successful, but not as successful as last year's.  But we still made a profit, and had a good crowd and good performers, so that's what's important.

It was a very long day.  I got there at about 12:15 pm and didn't get home until about 1:30 am (before the daylight saving change-over).  And since I'm not in bed asleep yet, I don't get an extra hour of sleep.  I get an extra hour of staying awake before I go to sleep.

 ;)

So, I'm going to bed now because I have to work concessions this afternoon.  What was I thinking??  Fortunately, I don't need to be at the theater until 1:30 pm.  I'm bringing my Kindle, so I'll have something to do when I'm not watching the student orchestras.

Have a good day, all!

I also saw RAGTIME when it was at the Shubert.

Loved it.  Great score.  I wish they would make it into a movie.

In fact, it's one of my favorite musicals.

Yesterday, I was watching some episodes from CHEYENNE, Season 3

One of them was called "Devil's Canyon".  There was something familiar about this episode's plot, but I couldn't put my finger on it...until about halfway through.

Then, it suddenly dawned on me:  I was watching a Western version of THE MALTESE FALCON.

In earlier episodes of CHEYENNE, I easily recognized the plots of TREASURE OF SIERRA MADRE and TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT, but this one baffled me for awhile.

Warner Brothers certainly knew how to make full use of the literary properties they owned.

 :)

DR DRUXY I saw a 77 Sunset Strip version of TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT - I have read that during a particular writer's strike during the 1960's, the Warner Bros. reused a lot of their movie scripts for their television shows and credited a writer named Hermanos Warner.....check the credits of that episode, maybe that was one of them.

I didn't see RAGTIME, I saw PARADE.....I don't know what I was thinking.

I would like to see RAGTIME.....we shall see if that happens.  I liked the movie.

Performance vibes for MR BK & Co this evening.  I am certainly looking forward to the CD release announcement tomorrow morning.  I have been saving my money.

An hour and forty-five minutes???

And BK is absolutely positively certain for sure et cetera et cetera et cetera that that didn't include the late start?

I just checked the audio recording of our dress rehearsal, and it comes in at exactly 1:30.

That 1:30 is with no cuts, by the way.

Except maybe a minute's worth, because they take the two album cuts in "The Gettin' Ready Rag", which we can probably blame on the choreographer.  It wouldn't be the first time I've seen them go with what's on a CD for convenience.

Are you talking about Kelley Armstrong?   Is it a quick read like what other books (her Nadia Stafford series?).  The book is almost 500 pages.  It actually took me more than a week to read it (although i do not know what else i was doing at the time).  I have actually already read book two in the series, Visions. I enjoyed both very much.

Half the fun of watching these old WB shows is trying to identify some of the reused plots and old footage.  That footage from the older big budget westerns certainly gave these quickly filmed TV shows great production value.

I watched a CHEYENNE episode a few days ago that used the same plot as an old Gary Cooper movie, SPRINGFIELD RIFLE.  In  a couple of the long shots, you could tell it was Cooper, rather than Clint Walker.  In another episode, it was obvious that the actor was Joel McCrea instead of Walker.

I guess they could get away with that back then because television screens were much smaller.

We went out for brunch today.  We both had a cup of the pumpkin bisque.  The service was unusually slow today so there was a bit of time between eating the soup and our main dish.  I mentioned to Keith I wasn't feeling too hot, and then I was a bit nauseated & I thought it was the soup.  To my surprise he felt the same way.  We were fine by the time we left but it was odd we both had the same reaction.  The soup was good.

I watched a couple more episodes of CHEYENNE this afternoon.

One of them I immediately recognized as a steal from THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT, though it ended differently than the film.

What was interesting is that Alan Hale, Jr. played the same role in this episode that his father played in the original.

I think Callie may have done her business tonight, but not 100% sure it was her.   She was acting like she was hurting so I gave her one of the three pain pills the vet gave me.  They are really only for cats in surgery and they can only have one a day for three days and that's it.  She was hiding down the basement in a cat carrier.  I took her up to her soft bed and then decided to give her the pill.  I sat with her for awhile and she seems to be more relaxed

I'm considering going back to her original vet to get a second opinion.  There's one vet there I liked and one I absolutely didn't like. I got the impression from my current vet that her hands aren't big enough to palpitate Callie's stomach so she can tell how she's doing.  That doesn't work for me.  So...if the vet I liked will see her Monday or Tuesday I'm going to take her in

I'm sure they'll be surprised to see she's doing so well after 10 years.

That sounds like a good idea.  Have you ever taken her to an vet internist?

just watched 'Murder Comes to Pemberly"   on PBS  a murder mystery sequel to Pride and Prejudice

Overall I enjoyed it but I couldn't help but wonder what Jane Austen would have thought of it

I imagine she would have approved it rather more than http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pride_and_Prejudice_and_Zombies

Went dancing tonight. Felt strange after deconstructing everything for so long now to put all the steps together on a floor. It wasn't great, but it's better than it was before. And it's getting better. That's what it's all about.

My favorite song was the one that starts "This looks familiar, vaguely familiar. Almost unreal yet, it's too soon to feel yet, close to my soul and yet so far away, I'm going to go back there some day"

I gave Callie on of the pain pills the vet gave me couple weeks ago.  I was saving them for a time when she really needed it because she can only take three and that's it.  There aren't really pain pills for cats, but these are used for surgery and then just one a day for three days.  I'm really glad I did.  She looks more peaceful than I've seen here in days.  I hate to wake her up for her last does of medicine, but I know i need to.    She's doing better. I'm going to see what a good night sleep does for her

I've almost got all the data inputted into the new practice management software.  I'm up to the "V"s. I can easily finish it tomorrow.  I think it's really going to help keep track of things.  Once I have the clients and matters and calendar in, I'll put in my to do list. I'll have to keep up inputting my time etc, but I don't think that should be a problem.

Working concessions today was very easy.  It was a small crowd that came to see the Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia (SOGO).  I helped count tickets after the concert started and there were 270 ticket stubs.
