Title: THE WEIRD AND THE WEIRDER

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both weird and weirder, and now it is time for you to post until the weird and weirder cows come home.

Hammacher Schlemmer is offering a life-size Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton replica for only $100,000. Or you can purchase just the skull for $9,500.

I think I would order the skeleton WITHOUT the skull. Just for kicks. And think how much money I would save!

Good morning, all!  I am off to Toyland, and I will check in from there.

Good news about the reservation, BK! I have a vague memory something like that happened to me once but it's way too vague now.

DR TCB, yes, GRIMM was fun last night. I'v always liked the show.  I used to faithfully watch ONCE UPON A TIME, but I got sick of Disney throwing into the mix its (per)versions of fairy tales. When they added characters from FROZEN this year, instead of Andersen's THE SNOW QUEEN, I decided they should go fuck themselves.

Wow - no one on the television commercials ever has a situation as described by MR BK.  Maybe that would be more realistic.

The only problem I have ever had with any kind of reservation was caused by the PERSON who said he/she was making the reservation - and then didn't, or didn't do it correctly.

Both the stories are terrible DR Vixmom. :(

Was the girl (and her car) on the shoulder of the road?  Or she was on the shoulder but her car was still on the road?  I am trying to understand how someone could run into a car in either place.

We were in the middle of a stay at cheap hotel in Manhattan (if there is such a thing) when we came back to the room after being out for the day, and found the door was padlocked. Apparently, something had gone wonky with our credit card and the hotel wasn't getting paid. We gave them a different credit card and they removed the padlock.

Thank you, Jeanne, for the car shopping web site recommendation. I haven't tried it yet, but I will. I'm looking for another Nissan Versa, but it's really difficult to find the SL trim level (with powers windows and locks, keyless remote, and cruise control). Almost all the used Versas out there are just the base model. OMG, does someone really expect me to crank down a window with my arm or open the door with an actual key?! ;-) However, I did finally find a 2011 Versa SL for a great price and it's at a dealership right near me, which is such a coincidence. Others I found were 50 miles away. So, I'm going to try to go look at it this afternoon.

Good morning, all.

I desperately needed some extra sleep, but along with it came the most amazing bunch of crazy dreams ever, one after another, one sometimes combining with another, returns to earlier ones.  Insane.  I would swear that the entire two hours of sleep was consumed by the dreams.

Good luck to Amy on getting the car you really want, and not just one you have to settle for.

We don't have to be "car people" to know what we're comfortable with.  Sometimes the "little" things do matter.

TOD:

I don't remember the details now, but about ten years ago I was forced to spend an evening talking with several different people -- both at a hotel in downtown Baltimore (which was right then in the process of changing hands, like, from Wyndham to Sheraton or something like that), and on both chains' corporate 800 lines.  In the course of their changeover, a reservation that I'd just thought to "check on" the night before had, sure enough, gone astray.  I don't think an outside entity like Expedia was involved, but it was surprisingly difficult nevertheless to get the problem fixed and the positive confirmation I wanted.  But it finally came together, and in the end, both the visit to Baltimore and the stay at the hotel turned out to be really great.

I am trying to do something which I thought would be simple. But I can't figure it out and thought that maybe a DR might know how to do this.

My sister put some pictures from her computer into my costco account so i could print them.  Now i would like to put some of those pictures on my usb.  But i cannot figure out how to do this.  I am thinking i will have to bring my usb to her computer (which i can do). But I thought i could just put them on from here. :(

One weird thing that happened is that the publisher we're using has a program that changed all of the "its" to "it's." That's really irritating. And it requires more attention since we don't have the manuscript on a program, simply on proofs. So, it can't be searched to see if all have been caught.

Getting ready to go to the public memorial service of composer Stephen Paulus, who was famous especially for his choral music. He died a few weeks ago after suffering a stroke a bit over a year ago. Only in his mid-sixties - he still had a lot of good music in him that we sadly will never hear.

Can't she just email them to you?

We are mourning the loss of a 21 year old woman  the best friend on my friend's daughter.  She broke down on the highway was on the shoulder well away from traffic. The town truck had just arrived to take her to safety when a 51 year old man drove right into the back if her car at speed the speed limit there is 55 and he was probably exceeding that he never braked. Her car was  destroyed as was the life's of her family and friends.  The same age as my Vixter...

A terrible and totally avoidable tragedy

News like this is always heartbreaking.  My deepest condolences to everyone who is hurting.

Today it was Ricky and Boo's chance to meet the new vet for their check up and shots.   Ricky was a basket of nerves, he's the biggest cat I have and the biggest chicken.   The vet tech told me she sometimes cat sits for vet I saw today (she has 5 cats and one of them is on meds).   SOOO, there may be a possibility I can travel a little here and there.   I'm planning to start slowly, a night or two at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

So the Vixter has picked up another job

She was at the Deals store (she worked there last  year and quit when  the college semester started) and they had a hiring notice up.  There is a new manager there who doesn't know her, but  several of the employees  gave unsolicited recommendations to him as she was filling in the application so he hired her on the spot

It's going to be in the 50s tomorrow and then the polar air arrives.  So tomorrow I have to finish my outside jobs to prepare for winter.  I have most of the work done, just need to get some plastic up on a couple of windows where it isn't practical to do it from the inside. There are a few other things I should do, but will be fine if I don't.

well technically 4 since she is still employed by the IHOP  but she has been  "on call"  rather than  scheduled so she decided  that she will just go down and speak to the manager  and explain she needed more reliable hours and give back her uniform.

Oh, it was just on the flat roof of the garage and I can easily climb the ladder to get there.  One side of my garage goes into the side of the hill so it's only about 6 or 7 feet from the roof to the ground.  It isn't scary to be there.  I've actually thought of putting a deck up on top of the garage.  It would be a really nice view

I really don't think I did a very good on the roof today.  But it's supposed to rain or snow on Monday and I don't want it to leak in.  I'm sure when someone who knows what they are doing looks at it they will shake their head or laugh, but it should hopefully keep the water out until I can get someone to come fix it

TOD:  I haven't had too many problems with hotel reservations.  I have been given keys and found someone else in the room a couple times.  I went to check in in Toronto at the Sheraton when I went to a conference and they didn't have a reservation listed.  It took awhile to get it fixed.  I had an email confirmation, but they found a room for me, so I kind of forgot about it.

It seemed "Ok"  2 beds (the Vixter had  her own  Graco travel bed in those days)   walls needed paiinting or repapering   but it seemed clean enough  although a little closer to the highway than you might have wished

It also had two doors leading  to the parking lot, one on either wall...  we discovered in the middle of the night that every time a truck zoomed by the resulting wind and vibrations would cause both doors to shake and rattle as if someone were trying to break in

OH! I had a horrible motel room once.  I was going to school at the U of Iowa after transferring from KU.  I drove back to visit some friends and got caught in a snow storm in northern Missouri on the way home.  I kept thinking I'd drive out if it, but it just got worse, so by the time I pulled off, all the good motel rooms were booked.  I stopped at a real hole in the wall.  Looked kind of like the Bates Motel, only not quite as nice.  There was no telephone in the room (this was before cell phones) I could go to a common area and make a collect call.   In the room, the closet was a pipe coming off of a water heater.  There were holes in the wall that looked like they were covered with duct tape.....but it seemed clean and it was warm and dry and had a tv.   The next morning when I left the snow was knee deep in the parking lot and the lot was full of others like me, glad to have a safe warm place to sleep.

I've never stayed at South of the Border, but I do enjoy its kitsch.  I haven't even eaten a real meal there, just something fast.

I did, however, wind up with a lousy Super 8 motel room a few miles north of there at the Lumberton, NC exit.  I'll never know why I thought I should save a few bucks by choosing that instead of the Holiday Inn across the road -- which I'd already been at a few years prior, and it was perfectly nice.  Bottom line, I probably didn't save ANY bucks, and the room and bed were horrible.

I thought Vixmom's story sounded familiar.  I thought that they were the same story. :-\

I think I am coming down with a cold, so I am going to bed very early.

Before Monday Nov. 17, I can look forward to see BK, DRs Kevin, Ginny, vixmom, Ben, ChasSmith, and more I'm sure, and I want to be in good health and fine fettle for the partay!

So, good night, one and all.  Full health report in the morning.

Congrats to the Vixter!

I haven't been feeling too well today, but I did climb up on the garage roof to caulk a place where the slate shingles have separated and it looks like water can leak in.  I need to call a roofer to fix it, but so far all the roofers have lengthy waiting periods.  I'm hoping that my caulk job will help until I can do more

I am constantly amazed by you Cilla... the last time I climbed up on my roof was ....never

 ;D

I climbed a few roofs in my lifetime, but I was just a child then.  No way am I going up one now.

When I was a kid and we lived in Colorado on base (my dad was in the army), the divider between the housing units' back porches allowed us to climb up on the roof.  We didn't do it too often, but it was pretty fun.  It was all at a low angle and the housing units were only one story, so it wasn't incredibly dangerous.

Today, I went to work for a couple of hours, then went down to The Midnight Sun (Theater Artists Olympia's newish home) and I installed a new door knob on the bathroom door.  At some point during the last weekend of "The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) [revised]", one of the knobs fell off and eventually disappeared!  Who'd want one door knob?

Anyway, I actually had a door knob set that I bought for my condo but never used, and it fit on the door.  The bar that goes through the door is a tiny bit smaller than the original, so it wiggles a tiny bit, but it otherwise fits and works. :)

This is something that a friend posted/commented about on FB:  Instead Of Getting Buried, People Are Doing This With Their Ashes. And I Think It's Pretty Awesome. (http://www.wimp.com/insteadburied/)

Essentially, after you die, instead of getting buried, you can be cremated and have your ashes made into diamonds!  It is a pretty interesting concept...expensive, I'm sure, but interesting.
