Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a double nothing, and now it is time for you to post until the double nothing cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HOYDEN!
-
Do you know a lot of hoydens? Did William Holden like hoydens?
Kim Novak wasn't a hoyden, and Jimmy Stewart couldn't have been.
Favorite Film of theirs is, of course....Vertigo :) :D
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
good morning to all
-
I don't have a favorite Kim Novack film but she did have some great dialogue in The Mirror Crack'd.
I could eat a can of Kodak and puke a better movie.
To Liz Taylor's character: Chin up, darling... both of them.
-
As for Mr. Stewart
I would have to say: Harvey, The Philadelphia Story, Rope (But film really belongs to Farley Granger and John Dall) and Rear Window
-
Iwill most likely be E & T tonight I have a business dinner in Manhattan
-
TOD
Rear Window and The Man Who Knew Too Much are the first two that pop in mind and then of course It's A wonderful Life
But he was wonderful in everything are there any bad James Stewart movies?
-
well I have to get ready for my day see you tomorrow VIBES for all
-
Ginny
I failed to write how glad I am Richard is feeling better and that you will be in NY as scheduled!
-
Thank you, George, for posting my millstone last night!

Good morning, all! I had a lot of really strange dreams last night. In one, I went to a party on Fifth Avenue in this really swank apartment, and the only people I knew there were Joshie and Rob Berman. I mostly remember wandering from room to room where there were all these wealthy socialites in evening gowns and suits. I seemed to be losing my clothes. I left the party and returned looking for my cap. Couldn't find it. Then, I got a taxi and we headed up Central Park West, and then I was in a subway wearing only my underwear, as I recall, and it was a complete ordeal trying to get to my apartment. I think Bertolt Brecht was talking to me on the subway platform.
So, I have physical therapy this morning. I will return, finish up this young man's orchestra score, and get back to Paint Your Wagon work.
Great photos, DR vixmom! I'm happy you and the vixter had a good day. Did you get a chance to visit with our DR ChasSmith at all?
I really enjoyed all of the stories from yesterday. And I'm ready for a nap.
More coffee!
-
Good morning, all.
I'm on my way out for a very quick visit to Cincinnati! I shall wave hi in DR Ginny's direction, but we will all be heading back in this direction on Thursday. Isn't that nice?
That's all for now. Back here tonight. Vibes to all.
-
Good Morning-- it sure is Monday, isn't it?
-
DR FJL - congratulations on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament (aka your new milestone)!
-
It looks like I may be "attending" my first day of my new job via computer, due to the snowstorm. It's completely white outside, but the worst of it is supposed to come later.
-
I feel just so with it and happening and hip - I've received invitations to join Google's new "Inbox" service - guaranteed to revolutionalise E-mail - and "Ello," the new Facebook replacement.
-
On the other hand, perhaps I'll just sit here like so much fish and gaze at my nihilistic navel.

-
That snow is starting early! Last year it waited until after Thanksgiving. In 2013 we arrived in Minnesota the day after Thanksgiving and the day before a 6-inch blizzard hit the city and it went down (temps and snow) from there!
-
Regarding VERTIGO:
I think that Hitchcock did the "big reveal" 30 minutes or so before the end of the movie because he knew that audiences were going to suspect the ending anyway, so by giving them the solution early, he avoided criticism like, "Oh, I knew that thirty minutes before the end of the movie."
I saw VERTIGO when it first came out, and I thought he'd made a big mistake by doing that, but since then I agree that it was a brilliant move. It changed the who focus of the film's final half hour.
Nevertheless, of Hitchcock's films, I much prefer NORTH BY NORTHWEST, THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH (2) and REAR WINDOW. I would rank VERTIGO as #4 on my list of Hitchcock favorites.

Peter O'Toole received his final Best Actor Oscar nomination for VENUS.

Good morning from midtown Manhattan.
-
Brent's show was great. While he sang many songs from the Kander and Ebb Album, he also performed songs from "The Happy Time," "The Visit," "The Scottsboro Boys," and "Cabaret." A nice surprise was "My Coloring Book."

BK---it's going to be cold later in the week. The predicted high for Saturday is around 43!
-
Monday morning greetings! Fitful sleep was not what we needed last night, but that's what we got. It's a busy 3 days before our NYC departure and I would like to have started the week well-rested - oh, well.
-
Travel vibes to DR ChasSmith - someday maybe we'll be able to meet at Graeter's!

DR ELMORE the Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that your dream indicates you think that some of your hard work is unappreciated by people who should know better. You also consider yourself more at home with younger people than your peer group. You also worry every time you go someplace that you have left something behind and that it will not be recovered.

Really? The last part is right on; I've left my cane twice now in taxis, but I may have to take your word for some of that. On my way hme from therapy, i realized i had forgotten a dream i had last night about Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus and Erich Korngold. Brecht and Johann Strauss. Whoda thunk?
So, i'm home for a bit. Tonight I am going to a free concert of Michael Valenti's Lovesong at the New York Public Library at Lincoln Center.

DR Elmore - have fun tonight! I love going to performances at the Lincoln Center NYPL.

Kevin and Anthony and I will be having dinner this evening at our usual haunt. Don't know if pictures will be taken but I'm sure there will be much to talk about!
-
BK, is there any way you could do an interview on Friday on Sirius radio's Broadway Channel? Do you know, or have you met, Seth Rudetsky? He does an afternoon show, M - F on Sirius. I am sure he would love to interview you.
-
I just heard about the upcoming Lincoln Center production of THE KING AND I with Kelli O'Hara and Ken Watanabe. It is supposed to have the largest orchestra on Broadway and a cast of more than 50. I would love to see this production. I really don't care for "The Small House of Uncle Thomas," but I could stand it to see the rest of the show.
-
I need a nap.

This has been a strange day.

TCB, Seth Rudetsky has been in San Antonio a few times lately raising money and awareness for a theater that largely stages musicals. He was with Ana Gasteyer this past weekend and I had to miss it. But I'm hoping to catch him when he comes back in a month or two with Christine Ebersole. I know she's not Elmore's favorite person, but I loved her in "Gray Gardens" and "Saturday Night Live," and I think he's a hoot.

Ms Ebersole is quite talented and charming, when it's all about her. In my experience working with her she was quite unpleasant once she realized early in rehearsal that another star, who was very charming, was going to get the big applause. Ut went downhill from there.
-
I do know Seth and gave him one of his first jobs :) I'll check into it, but Friday is too late really.

Had a chili, cheese and onion omelet and an English muffin and some tap tap tapioca pudding - that's the meal for today. Picked up one package.

How could I forget ANATOMY OF A MURDER and Mrs. Manion's panties?

DR TCB - this trailer doesn't begin to tell the story of NO TIME FOR COMEDY.....Jimmy is a playwright and Rosalind Russell is a NYC actress in the play he wrote.....made in 1940, same year as The Philadelphia Story.....and I like him better in this.....he even has a wonderful name:
Gaylord Estabrook......

Louise Beavers is the maid Clementine, and she is hilarious....
"You won't tell my wife what you heard, will you?"
"No sir.....but it's gonna make great testimony." :D

Maybe you could do a phone interview with him from L.A.?

DR Cilla we have a slate roof and people, including Keith, have been up there.
Mine is 80 years old. Everything I've read says you should never walk on a slate roof. They are thin asbestos slate shingles and they will break if you step on them.

It was a good first day at work. Thanks, all, for the vibes and good wishes!

One of the other insurance navigators broke her foot and her wrist, so they're going to be accelerating my training.
I have to be state-certified before I can begin helping clients directly.
Today we went over the ins and outs of immigration status and how it impacts which programs you can apply for. My head is swimming! :P
-
I took public transit to work, which went very smoothly but added a lot of time to my commute.
And needlessly, as the 16 inches of snow which they were predicting turned out to be more like 3.
-
Which is appropriate, I guess, as we're on page 3.
-
But not for long, I hope.

I'm doing my best.

We were very hesitant to go up there but things needed doing. The roofer that cleaned the moss off said it was in good condition, but then our roof is not nearly as old as yours.

They are supposed to last 100 years, but I don't know if mine will really last that long. I've been told it's in good shape. I won't replace it with slate if it needs to be replaced. There are lots of good looking asphalt shingles these days, so I could get something nice for a lot less money than replacing slate. Hopefully I won't have to do that any time soon
-
Glad you had a good first day. From the weather channel and local news I thought you may have had more than that. I must have gone just north of the city

I had a very productive day today. I am happy about that

The cold air has arrived

DR Singdaw, I heard there were over 400 accidents in the Twin Cities area, maybe it was a good idea to take public transit

Even though there was not a lot of precipitation, what there was was very icy.

SpankMonkey, I hope I remembered to congratulate you on your new job!

Saint Paul has the largest collection of preserved Victorian-era homes remaining in the country - more than 4 miles worth, in an area extending several blocks wide. There are heavy restrictions on building work and restoration in the historic district, which can get quite expensive. But they've tried to give homeowners a break by authorizing cheaper alternatives which still look authentic. Apparently there is a faux-slate material that looks just like the real thing, but is a lot cheaper. Something to consider, anyway.
-
I don't keep score, DR TCB - but thanks! :)

Thanks for the tip. Hoping I don't have to think about that yet. I do need to call a roofer for advice. Just not really wanting to deal with it. I think my caulking will do for now

One of my staff left at about 4:10 and he called me at 4:40. He got on I-5 right away but in that half hour, he hadn't even travelled the half mile to the very next exit! I don't know what happened, but it evidently just happened and everything is backed up. :P

And I am home from the NYPL. I had a great time at LOVESONG, which was my first chance to hear the complete score. The original cast recording has about 2/3 of the score, and there were some funny, bawdy snippets of sng, as well as several songs, that I'd never heard. The 4-persons of the cast were good, and they'd be even better if they had a chance to play the show for a bit and get it really under their belts. The orchestra is about six pieces, as I recall, and i missed them. Bill Cox the MD and Bill Ellison on bass filled the space very nicely.
Ron Spivak did a wonderful series of projections and they added a nice layer to the mix. Now I want a complete recording of this score. I have got to win the lottery.

Any Ian McEwan fans out there? I loved "Atonement" and "Saturday." Right now I'm halfway through his latest, "The Children Act." Wonderful story of a judge who kicks her husband out the house and watches her personal life crumble while facings some heavy ethical and philosophical questions as a children's judge. The main case involves whether the child of Jehovah's Witnesses should be forced to undergo potentially life-saving blood transfusions, though they are against the family's religion. It's a slender novel, but it has really gripped me.

That sounds like me and cleaning out the refrigerator. I'm forever saying that I must do it--and I do get rid of the worst of it--but I never get around to doing the job properly. Laundry is so much easier!

Reminding our New York contingent we have TWO shows - completely different - one on Saturday and one on Sunday - we really would love to see you at both. elmore will be at both, and we're doing a Skip Kennon song at the Sunday show.
-
I have literally spent the last two hours sending reminders to people. I think for whatever reason, all these NY people I gave so much work to, some of them even career boosts, just dig in their heels and don't want to come. It seems willful to me, and I never ever forget these things.
-
Last Friday I was notified that someone had used my Amazon credit card. I'm still not completely convinced that it was fraud as opposed to typing in an incorrect number, but of course the credit card companies aren't about to share their verification procedures and it's not something where you want to take a chance. So we cancelled my card. I have other cards to use, but that particular card was embedded in a number of places and I'm wracking my brain to recall which they were. I was told the new card would be delivered today via UPS. I rather doubted that it'd get here, but it did. It was 7:30 pm, but it got here. These things used to take about ten days. I plan to put all the dental work on this card and pick up lots of rebate points.

Just finished watching a taping of a production of George M. Cohan's "Little Johnny Jones" at Goodspeed from way back in the day (imbd says it was 1980). The cast included Lenny Wolpe and Ernie Sabella. In one of the audience shots, it looks like our very own Elmore enjoying a laugh or two.
