Good grief!  Now Barry Manilow has a new "duet" CD with a bunch of dead people.

DR Cilla we have a slate roof and people, including Keith, have been up there.

Mine is 80 years old.  Everything I've read says you should never walk on a slate roof.   They are thin asbestos slate shingles and they will break if you step on them.

We were very hesitant to go up there but things needed doing.  The roofer that cleaned the moss off said it was in good condition, but then our roof is not nearly as old as yours.
They are supposed to last 100 years, but I don't know if mine will really last that long.  I've been told it's in good shape.  I won't replace it with slate if it needs to be replaced.  There are lots of good looking asphalt shingles these days, so I could get something nice for a lot less money than replacing slate.   Hopefully I won't have to do that any time soon

Glad you had a good first day.  From the weather channel and local news I thought you may have had more than that. I must have gone just north of the city

DR Singdaw, I heard there were over 400 accidents in the Twin Cities area, maybe it was a good idea to take public transit

Even though there was not a lot of precipitation, what there was was very icy.

Saint Paul has the largest collection of preserved Victorian-era homes remaining in the country - more than 4 miles worth, in an area extending several blocks wide.  There are heavy restrictions on building work and restoration in the historic district, which can get quite expensive. But they've tried to give homeowners a break by authorizing cheaper alternatives which still look authentic. Apparently there is a faux-slate material that looks just like the real thing, but is a lot cheaper. Something to consider, anyway.

Thanks for the tip. Hoping I don't have to think about that yet.  I do need to call a roofer for advice.  Just not really wanting to deal with it.  I think my caulking will do for now

One of my staff left at about 4:10 and he called me at 4:40.  He got on I-5 right away but in that half hour, he hadn't even travelled the half mile to the very next exit!  I don't know what happened, but it evidently just happened and everything is backed up. :P

And I am home from the NYPL. I had a great time at LOVESONG, which was my first chance to hear the complete score. The original cast recording has about 2/3 of the score, and there were some funny, bawdy snippets of sng, as well as several songs, that I'd never heard. The 4-persons of the cast were good, and they'd be even better if they had a chance to play the show for a bit and get it really under their belts. The orchestra is about six pieces, as I recall, and i missed them. Bill Cox the MD and Bill Ellison on bass filled the space very nicely.

Ron Spivak did a wonderful series of projections and they added a nice layer to the mix. Now I want a complete recording of this score. I have got to win the lottery.

Too bad this couldn't have been recorded...assuming that it wasn't.

I just ironed.  By the time I got to the last shirt, one of mine, I was tired and my shoulder said it was time to stop.  The blouse looks like I didn't put much effort into it. ;D

We had a very nice dinner and catch-up with Kevin. He left about 5 minutes ago to go to the Metropolitan Room to see a show. He (and I) are looking forward to the weekend get-together.

No pictorial evidence exists. Sorry.

Any Ian McEwan fans out there? I loved "Atonement" and "Saturday." Right now I'm halfway through his latest, "The Children Act." Wonderful story of a judge who kicks her husband out the house and watches her personal life crumble while facings some heavy ethical and philosophical questions as a children's judge. The main case involves whether the child of Jehovah's Witnesses should be forced to undergo potentially life-saving blood transfusions, though they are against the family's religion. It's a slender novel, but it has really gripped me.

Wow. I thought everyone documented every moment of their lives with their cellphones. Glad it was a nice dinner, however.

Well, it's time for me to leave work.  I keep saying that I have to do laundry (and I do), but then I go home and don't do the laundry.  I MUST do at least one load tonight.  Wish me luck. ;)

Until later!
