Title: THE DISAPPEARING SOUP
Post by: bk on November 26, 2014, 12:00:19 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes disappeared and were soupy, and now it is time for you to post until the soupy cows come home.

Last night, I was able to visit with my cousin and his wife for about a half hour before I had to leave to go to rehearsal, which was improved over the night before.  I was able to get out of rehearsal for tonight because I otherwise would only have one day to visit with my cousin and his wife.  And since I'm only running the sound board, and the sound cues aren't even completed, it's a good time for me to not be there.

The family is all getting together at my parents' house today for lunch, so I'll go there at my lunch time, and the I'll be able to visit after work tonight and all day tomorrow (after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, of course), and all day Friday.

Anthony is already out there and I will be on Long Island later this morning. My office closes early today (at 1pm) but I've come in early for 3 days and will leave at 9:30 so I can get an early, hopefully, less crowded train.

Thanksgiving Eve greetings!  My sister and her husband are on their way from Michigan, as of about 10 minutes ago.  Their daughter will be on her way from Illinois soon and their son & significant other will be on the road early tomorrow.  Rob and Mary Linda will leave for her parents' in Michigan later this afternoon.

I, meanwhile, am finishing my second cup of coffee and getting ready to make pumpkin pies.  After the delivery we're expecting between 11 and 1, Richard and I will venture out to pick up our turkey.

Good morning, all!

I send sincere thanks and love to all of you who sent me good vibes yesterday. I can only credit that $28 lottery win last night to those vibes and DR JRand64's advice about the pennies. I'm very grateful  for that.  This morning around 11:00 I will run down to City Center to pick up a check and head for the bank.

BK, I went to contribute $20, but it appears the site wants $100 from me, but there's no way I can afford that at the moment, so I send vibes that you make your goal. I also send dental vibes.

Good morning, all.

It is now snowing.  But it's a very wet one that isn't sticking to anything.  Yet.  Fortunately, I got done the things that needed getting done yesterday, and don't have to go out today, though probably this afternoon or this evening I will be out pushing the snow blower.  Lordy.

Knee update.

I am still having problems, but I have used up my leave with the company and if I don't return to work I will loose my health benefits by the end of the month and at the start of the new year I would have to go on COBRA.

I am going back starting Monday with reduced hours per day and taking a sit break every ten minutes.

My return also coincides with my 15th anniversary with the company. I am grateful working for a company that has allowed me the time off and held my job.

Also the manager of the store will have moved on by the time I get back just before the busiest time of the year.

The seasonal CDs and DVDs and BLUs were taken out today to enjoy the White Thanksgiving.

Now playing:  "This Christmas", which my friend Kristi was playing for her sister who's visiting in town.  She only heard about half the album before declaring she had to have it, so they just ordered another copy.

Next up on the Big Speakers:  some DR Elmore!

And I am home from City Center, and it is grisly outside.  Not cold, just too much sleet and damp. It was also very slippery on Sixth Avenue and 56th Street. I walked to three postboxes to mail a bill, and all were locked. I guess the US Postal Service is afraid some terrorist will slip a bomb into a postbox, but the only explosion was mine when I found I'd wandered too much in too lousy weather in vain. I startled several pedestrians with my outraged profanities.

It was nice to see Joshie and his brother Jeremy who was there. Their holiday plans were turned upside down because the buses to New Hampshire were canceled because of the weather. We had a nice visit and I am back to work.

DR GEORGE I gave some $$$ to your theatre group when they were trying to raise money for ROCKY HORROR SHOW.....is that still happening?

Eventually.  We have a separate sub-account in our regular checking account set aside specifically for any ROCKY funds that have been raised and/or donated.  Our campaign was originally for $8000, but we only raised a little over $600. :-\ When we set up the Indiegogo campaign, we did not have our new home, The Midnight Sun (and the monthly rent that it requires), but ROCKY is still in our minds.  It'll be a while before we'll be able to do it, but we have all the donators' information and will honor it all.

Thanks for contributing, Jrand!!  :-*

And one other HHW denizen contributed, too!

DR JOHN G:

You "practice" football -  you "rehearse" dancing.

There, I've said it, and I'm glad.

I have said something similar to my sister-in-law and my niece when they refer to "play practice" after school. I said to my niece, if you want to be taken seriously even in community theatre then it's "rehearsal" not "play practice". I also had the discussion about "original cast recordings" versus "soundtracks" and how "soundtrack" is NOT the default term for a theatre recording.

A good toaster oven is something I want to get one of these days.  I haven't had one since, literally, the mid-'70s in my little Beverly Hills apartment.  I don't remember how long it lasted, but I'm sure it was one of the smaller, cheaper nits available at the time.  At this point I'd really appreciate having a decent one, and I'm sure they're much more sophisticated than they were back then.

Well this is troublesome...one of my coworkers (another supervisor) came over asking if we had seen one of her staff members.  He (the staff member) didn't show up for work today and hasn't been seen since yesterday afternoon when he told some people that he was going up to Tacoma.  My coworker said that someone went to his house and no one answered.  I think she said that the police were called and no one could get ahold of him by phone.  He and I aren't friends, but I certainly wouldn't wish that anything happen to him. :-\

Not sure why the Indiegogo process is causing such grief - you don't have to sign in via Facebook, as George said.  If there's further trouble let me know what it is so I can let them know the details.

I keep having to read about all these SAG people getting tons of screeners, including Into the Woods, while I, a forty-four year member, have gotten zero.  I'll call them on Monday and see why that is.  Meantime, we've gotten exactly two via the DGA, which is the polar opposite of last year.  I just don't get it.

IndieGo wants access to ALL of my friends on Facebook and I won't do that, and it will not allow me to create an account....I guess I will try later.

Hmm...I signed up on Indiegogo without using my Facebook account.  I used a completely different e-mail address than the one I use for my FB account.

I didn't use Facebook either, and they confirmed they got my money.

And now, I'm off to my sister's house.  The whole family will be there.  My sister is making vegan chili and nachos.  They're actually pretty good.  However, I'm still quite full from lunch today, so hopefully she doesn't make the food too early.

Have a good rest of the evening, all!

The Geissman's wonderful dog, Tucker, has passed away.  Fourteen years old, which is a pretty good run in dog years.  He never had any health problems until last February, when they discovered cancer in his liver.  They removed it all and he was like a new puppy again.  But a month ago it was back in full force and they finally had to make the decision, which they did yesterday.  I wrote this on his mom's Facebook page:

Ode to Tuckie

I was there the day Tucker arrived home to his new and delighted parents, Lydia, Grant and Greer.  Tuckie as we called him, was a rowdy puppy, his energy knew no limits, but he was a sweet dog from the beginning.  Yes, there were trips to the hidey hole for bad behavior and he was a long time learning to calm down.  But the sweetness and love was always there and even us visitors knew it right away.  Tuckie was there as Grant and I worked on the design of eleven of my fourteen books – it wouldn’t have been right without Tuckie there in the room.  He was also there through several recording projects in daddy’s home studio.  We knew he was there because we could hear him chewing on his chew toys.   He was part of the fabric of the house.  I’m sure everyone who came in contact with him adored him right away.  He had fourteen years, which, in dog years is a pretty good run and most of that time was without health problems.  He’s in dog heaven know and I’m sure he misses his folks as much as his folks miss him.   And his friends will miss him too, because we were all lucky to have known Tuckie.

Pumpkin pies are cooling and an apple pie (frozen, from Schwan's) is baking.  The house smells so good and Richard is in agony because we can't cut into these beauties until tomorrow.

Oh my, I bought a fresh pumpkin pie from the bakery.  I wish I had baked one so my house smelled that good....oh  wait!   I bought a frozen one too, I can bake it this weekend

I never cease to chucle at Dr. Chew, the dentist.  My mother once went to a Dr. Noodle, but he was not a brain surgeon.  I did, however, once know a proctologist who was a real ass.

I had a client who went to Dr. Doolittle.

So you brought a senior with you so you could get the discount? Very clever. They could help carry groceries, too.

Just got asked to play in a SHE LOVES ME during Feb./March.  Thinking of saying yes.  No conflicts, I've never done the show, the MD is a good one, and it's a good commute.  So why not have a little musical fun and make a few bucks?  Yes indeed, why not?  Why not, indeed?  I ask you.

where? where?

Wilton, Connecticut.

For late lunch I had easy to deal with food with no troubles at all - a cup of chicken corn chowder and spaghetti with butter and cheese.

With all the corn chowder you eat, it isn't my mouth I would worry about feeling pain.

if it was not for that pesky LI Sound I could get there in 45 minutes I suspect it will take twice as long  but perhaps it will be time for another road trip!

We've been down for forty-five minutes.  Seems like this always happens on a holiday.  Should be fine now.
