Well, you've read the notes, the notes were cozy and written on a Saturday even though they're Sunday's notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cozy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: NABOB!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Ben is up even earlier than usual.
-
Awaiting BK's Into the Woods report already.

Me, too!

A Big Ol' Good Morning to Everybody!!
-
Lat night, my wife and I watched the restored version of Orson Welles' TOUCH OF EVIL. I'd never seen this version before, and Sandy had never seen TOUCH OF EVIL.
I love introducing her to great films she has never seen before, and I love Marlene Dietrich's line: "Your future is all used up."
-
Good morning, all.
Another day of running. I think it's running until I catch the airplane Thursday.
Love Touch of Evil.
-
Add me to the Into the Woods list.
-
Congrats, Matthew, on your accordion debut.
-
Good morning, all! At 1:00 this afternoon, i am meeting Paul Ford, pianist, raconteur, and longtime friend, for coffee. I haven't seen him in years, not since the 1990s, and I look forward to it. There will be much gossip and many laughs.
Before i go, I hope to get a major part of the Can-Can perused, Tomorrow, after therapy, I will head down to City Center and drop off the remainder of Paint Your Wagon to Joshie.
-
DR Jane, no I have not seen Mockingjay part 1. Although I really want to. I am curious to see the story continue on screen. And curious to see what the changes are from the book. I just don't love going to the theatre. So i will probably wait to see it on dvd.
-
good morning to all
-
i've been listening to some of the tracks from Into the Woods. I like what I hear so far and it's fun to hear the lyric/dialogue changes here and there.
-
Good morning, all.
Had my choppiest night of sleep in a long time, and now I must prepare for an all-afternoon rehearsal at the high school.
Coffee!
-
I have a friend at church who has early onset Alzheimers. She started exhibiting symptoms in her early 40s. I know she recognizes me, but I haven't heard her use anyone's name for a long time now. It is quite sad. She has a tween daughter.
-
This is supposed to be the day for DR TCB's explanation.
-
Yesterday someone paid me back money that I was owed.....which was good because then I had the money to lend to someone else who asked for it.
I'm now the only one without any money.
-
Good morning!
-
I'm watching Summer Stock, which I recorded a few days ago. Not one of Judy's best.
-
Condolences to DR George.
-
Sunday morning greetings! Fr. Richard excused me from Lima today so that I can trim our Christmas tree and wait for the reinforcements for Mom's move to arrive from Michigan and Illinois. Handel's MESSIAH is playing and I'm about to start putting ornaments on the tree.
-
You are too kind :)
-
DR Jennifer thanks for responding even if you weren't any helpful ;)
-
We are meeting Keith's 3rd cousin and family today. The met on a genealogy site.
-
I'm up, I'm up - barely. I'll leave for the meeting in about thirty minutes.
-
I wonder how long I've been doing the "that's the title of my next novel" joke here at haineshisway.com Well, many, many years and it's become quite popular here, which I always enjoy. Well, I just saw it used on Facebook and not by one of us but used by the friend of someone I know very well. I don't think there's a coincidence here, do you?

Or maybe not.

Back from the meeting, which was good and will result in an album for a performer I've worked with many times. I just said that at this point I'm not doing anything by halves - she wants a full orchestra and I told her what that would cost and that I would only record at Capitol. So, they're fine with all of that and so we'll start this coming week trying to figure out what the songs will be.
-
GOOD AND WILL - the title of my next ethics novel
-
Exciting news about the meeting being so productive, BK!
-
All of the ornaments are on the tree, except for the beads and the crown on top. For the beads, I need a second pair of hands and, for the crown, a little more height. Richard will provide both when he gets home.
-
And i am home from a wonderful lunch with my friend Paul Ford, who's girding up to go back on the concert road with Mandy Patinkin. We discussed "the book" and caught up on the wheres and whats of our lives for the past twenty years or so. I used to cross paths with him in my Drama Book Shop days when he was heading to a theatre to play in the pit and i was walking to Eighth Avenue and the bus. I left the Book Shop in 1996 and that's 18 years ago.
-
I just did the math, and 1996 is 18 years ago for me, too. Coincidence???

Yay!! BK is kicking ass and taking names. :)

Back from the high school.
(The title of my next novel Or at least of a chapter therein.)
And thus begins three days of HELL: leaving the house at 6:15 tomorrow morning -- in tux -- for a morning concert, then one in the evening, then one Tuesday evening, then another morning one on Wednesday and the final evening concert that night.

MR BK is going INTO THE WOODS.
-
Looking forward to when he comes out of them and issues a full report.
-
Yes.
DR ELMORE does the new Charles Walters book talk about his personal life?
-
Me want the Paul Ford book.
-
Saw a community theater production of "White Christmas" today. They have taken a mediocre (if beloved) movie and not improved on it. In fact, they made the Bing Crosby character something unpleasant for too much of the show.
But the production worked its charms. The Berlin songs were gorgeous. The band was sensational. And the moment that snow started falling in the theater was magic.
-
There was one moment, however, that showed how much the world needs Hugh Martin. The three leading ladies have a trio called "Falling Out of Love Can Be Fun" and it just needed Martin's vocal arrangement magic. In his hands, the song could have been another Sing for Your Supper. Without him, it was pleasant and the show moved on to the next scene. What a wasted opportunity.
-
Can we make it page three?
-
Off to a Christmas party.
-
The hosts recently built a ballroom onto their house. And they've hired a band.
-
Who lives like that?
-
I certainly don't.
-
But we're on page three!
-
Dance, fools, Dance!
-
This tv show about Disney musicals really points up the vapidity and the creative bankruptcy of their "Broadway" shows.
The only one I have really liked was AIDA.
-
We enjoyed meeting our new relatives and wish we could tell Keith's mother about our day.
-
Me want the Paul Ford book.
Me, too! :)
-
Finally back after a long day.
Tired.
-
Hello, everyone.

I hurried back to give a tiny report until the notes. By the end of the film I thought I'd been sitting there for two-and-a-half hours and it really seemed THAT long. In reality, sans credits, the film runs just shy of two hours. Part of it is inherent to the show itself. So, caveat first: I'm not that huge a fan of the show itself - I do love much of the score, but the show itself has not ever engaged me the way it has others. The movie is very well done, and happily does not have fast cutting and is nothing like Chicago in that regard. Certainly it's the director's best film visually, although in the last half I could have lived without the constant camera moves, which get more and more pointless as the film goes on. The score almost survives well with a couple of numbers cut along the way. The cast is very good. It makes no pretenses about being a musical, although you would not know that from the trailer. So, while that silly ploy may get people in the theater, I think many mainstream filmgoers will bolt from the constant singing - and for much of the score, it's not exactly "easy" music. They do lay on the background scoring with a trowel - it's huge. It was a pretty full house. The film got a smattering of laughs, but not one huge laugh where the audience laughed as one. At the end, a smattering of applause. Even though they lay on song buttons rather loudly, no song applause at all, which is good. And this WAS an industry audience.
Here's what I can tell you in advance: The musical theater nerds will be lined up to see it. They will cheer as the lights go down, just as they do in live theater, which I loathe. They will scream with laughter, they will applaud after numbers vociferously, even if they are the only ones in the audience doing so, they will week copious tears in the last twenty minutes. They will applaud every name in the credits. Mark my words. How this will fare with regular "folks" is something I can't predict. It really could go either way, but my instinct is that young non-theater people won't like the relentless singing. We shall see.
To sum up, I enjoyed it, didn't love it, enjoyed the cast and the presentation for the most part. As screen musicals go these days, it's fairly true to the show.
-
Now, I rushed home to do that and must now go to dinner, but because I did so, let's really not be on page three OR four by the time I return in ninety minutes. Fair?
-
I listened to Act I of HERRINGBONE this afternoon. What an extraordinary show! Bizarre, funny, extremely clever, and lovely--all at the same time. I plan to listen to Act I again before I move on to Act II.
Long before I'd ever heard the names Fred Landau or Skip Kennon I'd heard of HERRINGBONE and wanted to see it. I was sorry to miss the La Jolla production several years ago. I do still want to see it, but am grateful to have this opportunity to experience it. It's quite remarkable.

Nice to hear that it'll have a full orchestra. Whoever it is.

Are you sure it's legal to wear a tux at 6:15 am? I thought that was only acceptable if you hadn't taken it off from the night before.
-
Good news from MR BK about INTO THE WOODS......I think I may be seeing it....sooner rather than later.....
I'm not sure I need to buy the soundtrack though....we shall see....
-
I wonder how DR JOHNG's house with a ballroom party is going?
I wonder how DR GEORGE got through the day......
DR SINGDAW made it ... but he has many LONG days up to and including Christmas.
-
DR GINNY did the reinforcements arrive?
-
Who lives like that?
I went to college with a girl from the Hancock Park area of LA--old, old money and huge, gorgeous old mansions. Her house had a ballroom in it. I visited her house once. I don't recall seeing the ballroom, but the bathroom was the old-fashioned style with one fixture here and another waaayyy over there. I'm sure that many of those homes have since been torn apart and trendified.
-
Time for bed. Therapy in the morning, then City Center.
-
I have no news.
I wish everyone a good week ahead.
-
TTFN.
-
DR GINNY did the reinforcements arrive?
Yes, DR JRand, 2/3 arrived today and the remaining 1/3 (niece Laura) arrives tomorrow. I'm to meet my sister at Mom's apartment at 10 in the morning. Pray for Rosemary's baby.

...
I just printed that post out for Skip. He'll be so glad you're enjoying it, Jeanne!
-
Delighted also to read BK's very positive assessment of INTO THE WOODS. That was well worth his running home to post.
-
Vibes for DR GINNY.....
-
Vibes to Ginny for tomorrow!
-
It is almost time for this week's episode of THE COMEBACK.
It seems the new ANNIE movie is getting unkind reviews.
-
Vibes for us if we don't get to page 4 before BK gets back.
-
Will we never get to page 4?
-
Is this it?
-
Yes, page 4!
-
We're working on it.
-
DR FJL accomplished the task!
-
Thanks for the vibes, DRs JRand and FJL. I'm not looking forward to the next several days...
-
Back from a wonderfully wonderful dinner with Kay and Michael - had the excellent rigatoni bolognese at the Eclectic Cafe. I will say that the portions there get smaller and smaller with every visit. I doubt there was four ounces of pasta.
-
Now I'll go watch the final hour of Boyhood.
-
Been a busy weekend. First the Little Dog Auction and today a party with a lot of artist friends where we made cards and some made gingerbread houses. It was lots of fun. I skipped the spiked punch. I planned to work this afternoon, then I realized my first appointment tomorrow is at 11:00 AM, so I'm going to get up and get to the office and work all morning.
-
I'm not at all in the holiday spirit. I doubt I'll get it anytime soon
-
How did the Little Dog Auction do DR CILLA LIZ?
-
It has been a busy day
-
but the tree is up and decorated
-
How did the Little Dog Auction do DR CILLA LIZ?
Finn went for $15000.00 but they raised about $129,000.00 to buy gifts for kids. Finn was given to the grandson of the guy who bought him
-
Someone posted that it was "way cool" when the grandson received Finn. It sounds like he's going to a good home.
-
Party was good. Lots of fine food, spirits and dancing. The weather was extraordinary. It's still close to 70 degrees outside, so it was pleasant to eat outside and enjoy talking with people. Ran into a lot of folks I knew but that I didn't know were connected with Frank and Cathy.
-
The holiday baking has begun. Made two tarts tonight and have the butter warming up to start all over again first thing in the morning.
-
Sleep will not happen much until I get on the plane Thursday.
-
We need a tree photo DR VIXMOM.
Great news DR CILLA LIZ!
Small world DR JOHN G - glad you had a good time.
-
Thanks for the early review of Into the Woods, BK. I saw the second or third preview way back when and the second act was completely different. It was more heartwarming as we realized that the narrator was the baker's son. When I saw it the weekend after it opened, I was surprised at the great laughs and how much less affecting it was. I always wished they went back to the better story.
-
I'll be curious to see what others think. I judge all movies the same way - the ones I love most I want to see again right away. I cannot think of the last film where I felt that except for The Ghost Writer.
-
Listening to music from what will be a January release.
-
Finished Boyhood.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Well, I certainly hope TCB and George show up and get us out of this little posting funk we've been in.
-
Well, this is nauseating.
-
The holiday baking has begun. Made two tarts tonight and have the butter warming up to start all over again first thing in the morning.
It has been many years since I have made two tarts in one evening. Ah, youth!
-
What is wrong with everyone?
-
If you don't want to stay up late creating posts, then post more in the daylight hours.
-
We need to get off on more posting jags.
-
Remember the movie themed food dishes?
-
Page 5!
-
The living and dead dinner parties?
-
The wacky casting lists?
-
Have we lost our imaginations?
-
Or maybe our senses of humor?
-
We are such a wonderful family.
-
Perhaps we all just need a straight shot of Geritol?
-
Do they still sell Geritol?
-
If they do, I will need to check its list of ingredients.
-
That's what I'M talkin' about. There is something wrong here.
-
My hunch is that AA members would need to pass on a shot.
-
Where is George this evening?
-
I know he said where he was going, but I'm old and the memory is going.
-
Yeah, where is George EVERY evening. He used to be a late-night stalwart around these here parts. No more.
-
Where is George this evening?
-
Why in the Hell did I watch the Barbara Walters special tonight?
-
For the same reason I watched PETER PAN - UNLIVE again last night.
-
I think my main complaint was that Allison Williams was not a very likeable Peter Pan.
-
I think my main complaint was that Allison Williams was not a very likeable Peter Pan.
On the Barbara Walter's Special, I mean.
-
Oh dear, I am losing my mind!
-
And I am not wearing my Dorothy Collins wig!
-
Jump in anywhere, BK, I don't stop for pedestrians.
-
Sorry, I had to pause to take my medications.
-
Maybe we need a nationwide HHW get-together!
-
How about at Ginny' house? She has that nice remodeled upstairs.
-
Think of the money I am saving on therapy.
-
Don't they call this free-association?
-
Oh dear, oh dear!
-
I am getting tired.
-
I bet a lot of our regulars skip the last page of posts.
-

-
I'm done.
G'night!
-
Add me to the Into the Woods list.
Ditto!
-
Tonight's performance of "The HEAD! That Wouldn't Die!" was quite successful! We had an almost full house! And they all really liked it. :D
-
We now have five performances next weekend, including a midnight show on Friday! Then, we have two added performances on January 2nd and 3rd!
-
Condolences to DR George.
Thanks, Kevin.
