Well, you've read the notes, the notes were back, and now it is time for you to post until the backed-up cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LITTERATEUR!
-
a good boy says "good morning lord" and a bad boy says "lord is it morning?"
-
Day off
Calling to make doctor appointments
I hope they play some BK music while I'm on hold
-
So where is everyone?
Not even Ben up the early?
-
Or am I asleep and I'm dreaming that I am doing this?
I have dreamt this before.
But if I wake up should I write this entry again?
-
no i am up, but tired. i'll try to go back to sleep.
-
according to VARIETY
Actor Rod Taylor of The Time Machine, The Birds and other films has passed away. People of generation and beyond are starting to lose our favorites and stars of some of the most iconic films of our youth.
Can't really say that about anyone in the last 20-30 years.
-
Excited for the new AH book.
-
DR John G. - is it too early to break out the Hello, Dali! jokes?
-
Glad for the good review for Herringbone!

WELCOME BACK, DR TCB!
-
Good morning, all.
SNOW!!!
Well, about an inch. I am hopeful that I can leaf-blow it away like I did earlier this week.
-
So, Friday. Doesn't feel like a Friday or much of anything else. I think I still have holiday lag.
-
a good boy says "good morning lord" and a bad boy says "lord is it morning?"
I must be a bad boy then.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
It's snowing in Manhattan. It is slippery and windy and it's supposed to stay that way all day.
-
a good boy says "good morning lord" and a bad boy says "lord is it morning?"
I must be a bad boy then.
I will go down as the worst scoundrel in the history books.
-
Good to hear about the new book!
-
TOD:
CD - She Loves Me (original Broadway and London casts, and the 1993 revival)
BLU - Colonel Blimp, which damn it to hell I fell asleep through part of last night.
-
Friday morning greetings! Where did the week go?
-
Good news about the upcoming show and the new book!
Exciting things happening!
-
Congrats to HERRINGBONE on being in the Top Ten!
-
TOD:
Nothing....doing some other things.
-
DR JOHN G's destination reminded me of this telegram:
Married your daughter in Miami. Going to Tampa with her tonight.
-
And this lively headline:
Newlyweds Leave Davenport for Hot Springs
-
Good morning, all! I had no internet this morning. Again!
I need to make a trip to the post office ASAP and the market. Following that, I've got Moross work here. My schedule tomorrow is currently a mess because of some tsuris yesterday afternoon when I got home. U'm waiting n a confirmation or cancellation of tomorrow's brouhaha. It's nothing unpleasant, just something that screws up the more fun plans I had already made.
DR George, that French productin of FOLLIES is from Toulon, I think, not the Theatre du Chatelet.
ROBERTA did not make the 10 BestLis this year, although both EILEEN and DEAREST ENEMY won in the past two years. I knew from his review and his panning all the dialogue that we were not high n his list this year, but I am irked that we lost to the miscast ONE TOUCH OF VENUS.
-
Good morning.
-
TOD:
AND SO IT GOES should arrive from Netflix tomorrow, so that's what we'll watch.
-
We are getting ready to do a couple of errands at Kenwood Towne Center in the Cincinnati 'burbs - bye for now!
-
My car started.....so Molly and I are heading to Aldi's in a few minutes.
Hostage situation serious in Paris......
-
Non brouhaha vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
I liked INTO THE WOODS.....would rather have SEEN some of the things we were TOLD about....missed the "Agony" reprise....the things that have all been said already....that's pretty much how I feel.
I could BARELY understand a word "Jack" said....between the mumble mouth and the accent....and I really prefer an adolescent "Jack".....it makes "Giants In the Sky" a better song....
BUT - I am sure I will buy it and like it each time I decide to watch it.
-
I miss the old comfortable Kenwood shopping center! :) But I'm sure the current incarnation is nice. Have a nice shopping trip, DR Ginny!
-

I don't understand that attitude toward the generous amount of dialogue in ROBERTA and other recordings.
I can understand it from the Goddard Lieberson perspective re single LP cast albums, but not in the context of today's desire for comprehensive works and the technical means of achieving them.
-
The post office was a breeze; the walk there was not bad, since the streets have been salted, and it was warmer outside than I expected. I was not happy at the market at 86th and Amsterdam: not a single clerk on the floor to help in finding items. Since walking with a shopping bag, basket of items, and a cane was painful, the aisles narrow and difficult to maneuver, I asked loudly if there was anyone on he floor for help, got no answer, and I finally put down my shopping basket in disgust and walked out.

I know the dialogue's not everyone's cup of tea, and i anticipated that. What I wasn't expecting was so much hostility over it.

I'm up, I'm up - bad dreams and seven hours of sleep.

~ ~ ~ THROAT VIBES ~ ~ ~ for DR George!
Thanks, Singdaw! My throat is still a little sore, but at least I slept fairly well. :)
-
Am at work - Friday - January 9, 2015.
Sigh.
Want to be at home, I guess.
I need a coffee...maybe an espresso shake!

From DR John:
Nice notes on your friend's mother, Jane. Glad they did everything they could for her.
Thank you. It is nice to see families that work together when a parent is declining, unlike what I went through with my sister.
While I feel sad this has been expected. I hope her granddaughter makes it through the funeral without going into labor.
-
DR John what do the signs say that your fellow journalists are holding?
-
Feel better vibes for DR George!
-
I seem to know a number of people who have recently had hip replacement and one who is about to. I don't know anyone who has had hip resurfacing.
-
Good news about the upcoming show and the new book!
Exciting things happening!
Ditto, Ditto and Ditto!!
-
I did not realize Rod Taylor provided the voice for Pongo in "101 Dalmatians ."
-
Good health vibes to George!!!
-
DR George, that French productin of FOLLIES is from Toulon, I think, not the Theatre du Chatelet.
Spoo! You're right. I also have a download of the Theatre du Chatelet production of "Sunday in the Park with George" and had watched it recently. That's probably why I was thinking of that place.
-
Feel better vibes for DR George!
Thanks, Jane!

Thank you for that, DR Jane.

Thanks for the ROD links DR JANE.
I hope everyone has seen Rod in Welcome to Woop Woop.....
-
Back from Aldi's.....spent about $138 on stuff that would have cost over $180 at my usual grocery venue....so that is nice.
-
DR Ron posted this on FB and it's pretty darned encouraging...Happy New Year! Stanford May Have Just Cured Alzheimer's (http://rodmartin.org/happy-new-year-stanford-may-just-cured-alzheimers/).
If it turns out to be true (in however long it takes to prove), that would be a great thing! Both my grandmothers had Alzheimer's.
-
Wouldn't it be amazing if somebody walked into the grocery store and was planning on buying everything in the grocery basket that DR ELMORE set down on the floor?
-
I did not realize Rod Taylor provided the voice for Pongo in "101 Dalmatians ."
He did, indeed!

Back from meeting number one with Neal Hefti's son Paul. Really fun. Onto meeting number two in thirty minutes.
-
I did manage to futz and finesse and write a bit over a page before leaving for meeting one.
-
I've been tidying up the apartment, which really needed going over, to get the news that I was dreading abut tomorrow. Instead of entertaning company, I must take a trip to Toyland.
-
Do I take it Toyland is no Joyland?
-
Do I take it Toyland is no Joyland?
Not these days!

Do I take it Toyland is no Joyland?

Oy.
-
Put on the CD of Annette singing her TOYLAND songs DR ELMORE....that should make things better.
-
The internet crashed. Again.
-
Thank you for that, DR Jane.
You are welcome.
-
Thanks for the ROD links DR JANE.
I hope everyone has seen Rod in Welcome to Woop Woop.....
I don't believe I have seen it.
-
Pretty funny movie DR JANE....but a bit of an acquired taste. DR JOSE recommended it to me many years ago.

We should add Taylor's name to record on our DVR. Thanks for the tip.

Well, here’s the latest in my “why is my life such a mess” memoir:
Around 1988-89, i became friendly with a 20 year-old acting student at the American Academy of Dramatic Art, and we hung out together for a couple of years. He was from New Jersey, and his dad seemed a bit of a wacko with a really heavy macho complex. When he was in the City and it got too late, he would crash here, and we’d watch movies on VHS or see a show. When i was out of town on a job, he would housesit for 4-6 weeks while i was away.
When he finished at the Academy, he didn’t seem much interested in auditioning, and my memory is that he tended bar. At one point he lived across from Macy’s on 34th Street in an apartment so small it made mine look luxurious. At some point, he followed his grandmother’s example and began writing poetry. He gave me a couple of books he’d self-published.
We lost touch, and one day I got a letter from Mongolia. He had married a Mongolian banker, they were living with her parents in Mongolia, and he was working in an English book store. A couple of years after that, I got a call from New Jersey. I met him one Sunday afternoon for a slice of pizza on the Upper West Side and caught up. They were back in the States with their baby daughter, he was a house dad, and Tula was working for some bank. Another couple of years passed, and he invited me to join them for brunch one sunday before they took their daughter to the matinee of Beauty and the Beast. I got their address and phone number and email address, and heard nothing more.
Several hers later, on my erratic Christmas card whims, I sent them a card and it was returned for having an invalid address. The phone numbers didn’t work, the email was dead, and my stalking instincts took over. Using US/People Search, I sent a couple of letter that always came back with “address unknown.” In early 2013, I tried again, and in late May 2013, I got a letter: he and Tula were divorced, he was living with his dad and grandmother in Essex Falls, NJ, and driving a Domino’s Pizza delivery truck. I called him and we met for dinner at a middle eastern restaurant in the east 30s, and then ended up at an Irish bar on Eighth Avenue and 47th Street or so. He gave me a journal of his drawings and poetry, and we said we’d see each other soon. He was coming into NYC and bumming around on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I suspect now it was to keep out of his dad’s way when he wasn’t driving the truck. That was about the first of June 2013.
Shortly after that, he called and told me that his dad was throwing him out; could he move in with me? I told him i was too crazy finishing up ROBERTA and that we would talk when I got back from Dublin. I also asked him to keep in touch. I became a cripple on August, recorded in Dublin, came hem and dealt with my health. I heard nothing from John. In spring 2014, I tried to call him and his cell phone was dead. I kept thinking, I’ve got to see where John’s gone off to. On September 27, 2014, I sent him a letter explaining my health, unemployment, and general unhappiness, and told him to call me. Around December 1, the letter was returned because of an invalid address.
So, today I thought I’d try to find another address and mail it again. I found an address for Tula, the ex-wife, but nothing for John, so on a whim I googled his name and New Jersey. What I found about the events of June 2013 shortly after he called me explained so much. I also learned that his grandmother died last year at the age of 100.
I won’t be seeing my friend John Mekeel again, since I suspect he’ll be incarcerated for a very long time. I’m still reeling over this one!

Wow, that was a shocking find for you.

Wow, that was a shocking find for you.
I posted the wrong link. He's booked for murdering his father. I may try to learn where he's incarcerated and visit him.
-
I wondered since the obit did not mention the father. It was kind he was still included. Such a sad story.
-
I read your corrected link.
-
What a crazy day. Had meeting two, wrote a half a page before meeting three, which ran long, then I had to run and do some banking and now I finally have time to write and then relax at some point, although I really want to write at least ten pages and that will take most of the evening hours.
-
Well, BK has his stumble thru on Sunday and then he is going to write; so I guess that means no Golden Globes viewing party here at HHW. Oh well, I will watch them alone.

Theater Artists Olympia is having a "board retreat" on Sunday, but it's supposed to end by 5:00...maybe we'll actually end early (one can hope). I'll be home as soon as I can. I really don't want to do this, but we probably need to do it, so we're going to do it.
-
DR John what do the signs say that your fellow journalists are holding?
Je suis Charlie.
-
I should have guessed.
-
Workman's comp okayed me seeing another doctor on Jan 30th for a second opinion regarding my knee. Whatever the outcome I hope that can operate soon afterward.
Waiting to hear about the second go around for the multitude of tests for my thyroid.
-
Just arrived in Barefoot Bay, Fla., after a day at the Dali museum. Really a fun day. The special exhibit is of Dali and Picasso. Works that influenced the other's, works that they shared in common, works that they went in their own directions on. Fascinating stuff.
No, Singdaw. You may be recently better, but now is not the time for Hello, Dali.
-
Elmore, that was one wild story about your friend and his rather strange life.
-
Four!
-
Well, I'll be checking in here for the Golden Globes report, believe you me.
-
Writing away.

That is great you get to have a second opinion. Who chose the doctor?
CONTINUED THYROID VIBES!!!!
-
Think I'll stop at six and just relax for thirty minutes, then do another five pages. Then break, then do another two or three and I'll be done for the evening.
-
Continued vibes for Mike.

Rod Taylor once played Travis McGee in a TV movie. I really thought his performance was wonderful, but there was something wrong about seeing an actual houseboat for the Busted Flush that made the movie seem more old-fashioned than it was. And Jane Russell played his next-boat neighbor. She was good but again, it seemed to skew to the wrong age group.
-
Excited for the new AH book.
I read that as a A+ book.
-
Wow, sorry to hear the story about your friend, DR elmore.
-
I'm sure I'll be watching the Golden Globes, at least for a while.
-
Whoa! Thank you for sharing an amazing story, DR Elmore.

I want to see that! Odd though it may be.
I read all the Travis McGee books some years ago, and have actually been thinking it's time to do so again. It's heady stuff, for one who grew up in Fort Lauderdale in those approximate years.
-
Richard and I had a delightful afternoon of errands, beginning with lunch at one of our favorite delis in Blue Ash. Then we went to Kenwood Towne Center, where I had an item being held at Williams-Sonoma (a 2.75" doughnut cutter that I'm going to use to make cookies for next week's book group). We also visited the Apple Store (just to browse), See's Candies, and the kiosk where I had batteries replaced in 4 watches.
After some puttering at home and pizza for dinner, I'm finalizing the agenda for tomorrow's AAUW Middletown general meeting.
-
DR Elmore, I'm sorry to hear that your friend's life took such a tragic turn.
-
Sunday is the Golden Globes!
-
I'm very sorry to read about your friend, Larry. :(

I recently reread Bright Orange for the Shroud. Enjoyed it for the writing, but the plotting was unexceptional. It was like a mystery without much mystery to it. Still, MacDonald's depiction of Florida and of certain types of humanity still made it worth the read.
-
Just finished catching up with Downton Abbey. Not the best written episode, but still a good one.
-
And now to bed. Good night, all.
-
Well, it's time for me to head home. I think I might stop at a local sub sandwich shop, Meconi's Italian Subs (http://www.meconissubs.com/). They're a little pricier than other sub shops, but they're pretty good.
Until later!

Eureka! I found my post from May 31, 2013:
Yesterday, I had a good day at Toyland, came home and put the laundry into the washers, and then my postman brought me a letter from an old friend who mysteriously vanished about eight years ago. I've been trying to locate him and his family ever since my Christmas card from 2005 so came back as Address Unknown. So, in the past two or three years, I've used various computer search sites like Intelius, etc. to trace him. I've sent out letters asking if this was my friend John and they've always been returned unopened marked Address Unknown.
Until yesterday. So, last night,my friend John came into the city and we met for dinner at a ridiculously expensive middle eastern restaurant on 39th Street around 6:30. He's been through divorce and a bad period of health. His daughter is now 14, living in Princeton with her mother, and he's staying with his dad. It was great to see him, and I'm happy to know that he's okay. I wish more of my missing friends could be located.
It's nice to know the memory's still pretty good about dates and things!
-
I am so sorry to hear about your friend, Elmore
-
health vibes for Mike

I realized that when I changed the Apple ID address and password, that I never changed it on the laptop so that the Cloud would synch with everything. I certainly remember the first part of the password but now, of course, whatever I enter as the second part isn't working and I do NOT want to change it on every device again. I wrote it down when I did it at the Apple Store and can't find that paper now. So annoying.
-
Where is everybody?
-
One more.
-
Page Five!
-
Me and my shadow! Oops, it is actually a Guest.
-
Isn't this a Friday night?
-
Everybody should be home on their computers.
-
Actually, I guess the East Coast is probably in bed.
-
Western Washington is in the throws of Seahawk Fever!
-
I wonder what happened to George? He left for the sub shop at 7:30.
-
Maybe he is watching TV, or doing laundry.
-
I did scare the Guest away.
-
Obviously they were familiar with my posting style!
-
Where IS everybody?
-
Just finished with today's writing - twelve pages or so. I'm sure they'll need the usual futzing and finessing.
-
I was going to clean house tomorrow morning, so I can enjoy football tomorrow afternoon and evening, But a friend called and wants to meet for an early lunch.
-
Where IS everybody?
What am I? Fish?
-
I need to go and read a little.
G'night!
-
I wonder what happened to George? He left for the sub shop at 7:30.
I've been home for a few hours. I didn't end up going to the sub shop.
-
I went to Burger King (BK!), instead. I have some coupons for Meconi's but I left them at home, and I didn't want to go home and then go back out again, so I went to Burger King because I did have coupons in my car. :)
-
And that's where I had dinner tonight.
-
I've burned a couple of DVDs since I got home. One is a documentary called "Finding Vivian Maier," about this guy who bought a huge box of photos and negatives and undeveloped negatives at an auction, and all the photos were taken by this woman, Vivian Maier. The guy, John Maloof, wanted to find out who this woman was. She took some incredible pictures of everyday life and some of the experts he interviewed said that she could've been a very famous and well respected photographer. But she just wanted to be a nanny so that she could take her pictures without any worry. She just died in 2009 and it's really fascinating.
-
I found some Zebra popcorn here - it's really good.
-
The other disc that I burned was some behind the scenes clips and interviews for the movie of "Into the Woods." I downloaded these and was able to put them on a DVD. :)
-
I recorded the final season premiere of "Glee" and will watch it tomorrow.
-
I have absolutely NO plans for tomorrow, except to stay home and do laundry.
-
Well...
-
...it's...
-
...just...
-
...to...
-
...close...
-
...so...
-
...now...
-
IT'S THE PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
It's not Page 982, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
;)
