Well, you've read the notes, the notes moved right along, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're MOOving right along.
-
And the word of the day is: SUBROGATE!
-
First post after BK!
-
And it is only eleven o'clock.
-
I see. BK wanted to go to bed early.
-
And we'll he should, if he so desires.
-
I heard that they have now lowered the snow totals for the East Coast.
-
8 to 12 inches of snow.
-
It still could be bad with the winds.
-
I guess that George must be doing laundry.
-
Or watching TV.
-
I hope he doesn't get the two mixed up!
-
I hope he doesn't get the two mixed up!
Nope, just finished "Muppets Most Wanted." I liked it very much. :)
-
8 to 12 inches of snow.
That is still plenty of snow.
-
And then there was that time when Bert Lahr did drag...

Happy Birthday, Wolfgang!

Cool :)

TOD:
Thankfully, I've been able to avoid extreme bad weather.
When I was about eight or nine in Seattle, there were a couple of snowstorms that forced the schools to close for 2 days. But, that didn't bother us kids. We spent the days sledding down the hill in front of our house.
Then, there was the major lightning storm that Steve Kanaly and I flew through on our way back from Chicago to Los Angeles. But, that's about it.
-
I don't know what's happening with our mostly 5-6 year old appliances in our house.
About a year ago, the microwave died. Just before Christmas, out big screen television, which was about 12 years old, passed away.
Two or three weeks ago, we had a major repair on the washing machine.
And yesterday, the condenser on our refrigerator went out.
>:(
-
Good morning, all.
Got a big ol' fancy breakfast to go to this morning.
And VIXMOM, there's something in Downtown Disney we might be dropping around for later. It's really too bad our schedules (pronounced the British way, if you don't mind) are so tight, because a mini-HHW Florida get-together would have been wonderful!
-
Outta here tomorrow. Fortunately, we're getting a reprieve on the storm.
-
Later, all you gaters.
-
good morning to all
-
We had some lovely rain last night. And we're due to get some more on Friday-- I just love it when the golf tournament is on in town.
-
I hope that Ben and Larry have electricity because they usually post by now and that they are warm and safe.

Looking forward to getting one.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
The mayor and governor have lifted the travel bans.
-
Good morning, all! The alarm rang an hour and a half ago, but I slept in. It was too quiet outside to not sleep in.
As to the storm, we got a Big 5.5 or so inches of snow. The news is apologizing this morning.
http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2015/01/27/national-weather-service-meteorologist-apologizes-for-storm-forecast/
I know some areas were badly hit, but the City was not. I am trying not to look scornfully on the crazies who ran riot through the markets in yesterday's panic trying not to look scornfully on the crazies who ran riot through the markets in yesterday's panic. Some day my assurance that nothing is going to go as badly as predicted will bite my ass.
-
DR slingshot, the first thing I saw on TV this morning was a CBS This Morning clip on the liberation of Auschwitz 70 years ago. I'm still teary about it. I hope your concert goes well.

Tuesday morning greetings! I have some follow-up to do after last night's AAUW board meeting and some Chicago prep, too. If the weather cooperates, I'll go out to visit Mom this afternoon.

Yes....DR SINGDAW......performance vibes for you this evening!

NIGHT WILL FALL was interesting and informative. As always, the film taken by the British and American troops [and some Russian] was most difficult to watch.
A few minutes of color film was included. The story of the abandoned documentary and the involvement of Alfred Hitchcock was very interesting.
IF you are a student of the era....you should watch the film. We are getting to the point where there will be no more eyewitnesses to this history, so it is good that people are telling their experiences.
There was also more in this documentary about what happened to the people who survived the camps in the next few months that followed, that I am sad to say I never even really thought about....
Certainly more than worth seeing....and thinking about.
-
Worst weather.....the blizzard of 1978....whew....several days of being closed in....it was what NYC was supposed to be like today....

I got my Social Security document today, but I still haven't received my Public Employees Retirement Fund disbursement document.....so the taxes are still undone.

DR DRUXY it sounds as if the Mercury Retrograde has hit your kitchen this week.

Today is the 130th birthday of Jerome Kern, who died far too young at the age of 60.
Take a moment and listen to one of his songs or scores today.
-
Good morning, all.
And happy birthday, Mr. Kern.
-
TOD: I remember one night back when I was in high school that it snowed 17 inches and I had to get out to deliver the newspaper. Well, in Louisville, that was enough snow to prevent the paper from getting to me until around 8 am. Paper was supposed to be delivered by 6 am. People called the house to complain and they didn't like being told that I couldnt deliver what I didn't have. I then had to trudge through the snow to deliver those papers.
School, of course, was canceled. So was the mail. But I had to deliver the afternoon paper, too.
-
Things are up in running in Manhattan, but the City's on a Sunday schedule.
-
The news coverage of the "blizzard" was an all time nadir if such a thing is possible. The apology is, perhaps, a first? The people who went crazy buying "emergency" supplies for what was supposed to last twenty-four hours tops, should be ashamed of themselves, but alas, they aren't.
-
I'm up - I think I got eight hours of sleep.
-
Oh, I see, the person apologizing isn't from CBS - he's the man who predicted all this. The news hasn't apologized for their usual end of the world predictions that cause all the panic in the first place. "Blizzard of 2015" my butt cheeks.
-
I recall buying the last, or 2nd to last carton of milk before a storm. What I purchased was usually just what I needed for the amount of time before I expected to get to the market again. You didn't want to stock up too much on foods that would go bad if power was lost. Of course, in that kind of cold the outdoors worked just fine as a frig, as long as you made sure to get the food back in the house before the temps warmed up. Once we had ants.
-

Wait, only one person predicted the big storm? I would expect multiple meteorologists did.

Today is the 130th birthday of Jerome Kern, who died far too young at the age of 60.
Take a moment and listen to one of his songs or scores today.
I just listened to three great Kern songs:
Cinderella Sue from BK's release of the "Centennial Summer" soundtrack
Long Ago and Far Away
Poor Pierrot
What hell rages in the heart none may know
For fickle Pierette has forgotten poor Pierrot.
-
And back to the Encores! work.
-
Think I'll listen to Mr. and Mrs. Rorer from Sitting Pretty.

Put on the first act of Sotting Pretty. Who can resist Bongo on the Congo or Shufflin' Sam?
-
Good Morning
-
It's overcast here in the bay area, no sign of rain but it's not as chilly as the last few weeks. I'm going out for a quick bike ride soon, then I need to finish a song I'm writing for a musical that I'm suppose to be composing from someone's "poems" about JFK's presidency. Don't get me started on my lyricist....
That's all I'll say about that...

I am listening to CENTENNIAL SUMMER......

I have "Roberta" here at work.
She shall be listened to. :)

A little depressed today. I found out that the man who was the minister at my church when I moved to San Antonio has been moved this week to a facility for the care of Alzheimer's patients. He was very nice to me as a newcomer, and his family included me and number of other members in family gatherings over the years. It's been sad to see him in decline over the past year and to learn that his wife, a nurse, can no longer care for him.
He had been the first minister that the congregation had called back in 1985. We're gearing up to celebrate the church's 40th anniversary this spring and had hoped he'd be a part of the event.
I now doubt that I will ever see him again.
-
DR John G, I'm sorry to hear about your friend and former minister.

This is sad. I'm sorry we won't likely make it to the celebration.
-
Back from a good and fun rehearsal - we finally had the full cast, which is so helpful. I ended up doing the huge act two opener, which came out very well. We're about fifteen pages or so, maybe less, from the end, but there's still three group numbers ahead.
-
Did ANYONE outside of NYC get snow?
-
I expect DR Kevin got about an inch and a half since that is what Craig got.
-
Thank you for sharing that wonderful memory DR JOHN G....thoughts keep people alive in our heart.
-
That is a nice way to put it DR Jrand.
-
I pulled a ton of stuff out of a cabinet this morning and then we left to do errands and I took a long walk while Keith worked out. I really need to put it all away instead of stepping over it ;D
-
I expect DR Kevin got about an inch and a half since that is what Craig got.
It was really less than that where I live, DR Jane! The schools were closed, nevertheless!
-
I guess the worst weather I've experienced was the Blizzard of '77 in Buffalo. It was an authentic blizzard, with very high winds resulting in huge drifts. My recollection is that we didn't see pavement for weeks. We were driving on compacted snow.
-
Happy Birthday, Jerome Kern!
-
Rehearsal was short and sweet as only three singers were with us today - one comes on Thursday, then everyone on Friday.
-
Had a cup of chili and a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich and proofed. Will proof at least three more chapters tonight.
-
What's this page three malarky.
-
Can't blame it on the blizzard.

DR ELmoore: Do you have a favorite song of Kern's?

Had I been at home I would have been one of those stocking up on a least a week's worth of supplies. Living in an area where all the electric wires are above ground hung from telephone poles where there are lots of oak trees and maple trees with heavy limbs. I have seen too many instances over the years where a branch falls and takes out a transistor or a car slides on an icy road and takes down a pole and as a result a neighborhood loses electricity for days. I remember in January 1996 when the stores couldn't open for days for lack of electricity and even if they could have the delivery trucks could not make it to them. Weather can only be predicted to a point it is not an exact science and I would rather be over prepared than underprepared. So it was not 3 feet that fell "only" a foot. Considering that less than 3 inches virtually paralyzed Georgia and South Carolina a year ago this week I think the warnings were within reason

Vixdad and I were back at nasa today where we lunched with astronaut Wendy Lawrence then saw an IMAX film filmed by astronauts on the international space station then attended a lecture followed by a Q&A with Wendy Lawrence then a trip around the Atlantis space shuttle exhibit. And we still haven't been to the astronaut hall of fame next door
-
The Vixter is still valiantly trying to clear our three car driveway by herself. She said she was only able to clear enough to get vixdads car out so she took that to work today
She ended up being sent home because of lack of business as the roads are so icy no one is going out to dinner

Our church president lives in the house directly behind my mom's they share a fence between their back yards. Her husband and grandson very kindly cleared my mom's walkways and driveway

I agree. It is better to be prepared than caught without enough food or any way to get some. I do try to keep cans of foods to survive on for short periods if needed. We lost power, water, and heat too often. I should keep more water here as no power, no water.

I always appreciated someone rescuing me when Keith wasn't home, still I have shoveled plenty. In Massachusetts we lived on the corner at the bottom of the hill. The snow plow would push the snow around the corner completely blocking our driveway with about 4 feet of solid snow.

Not talking about rural areas and at no point was this thing supposed to last more than twenty-four hours. In the end, they shut down a major city for six inches of snow. And that's not even the point - the point is the media creating unnecessary frenzies and then walking away when they don't happen.
-
Well, it's time to leave work and go home.
Until later. :)

Boston is one thing, Manhattan is another. And I believe NOTHING the news says. Why do you suppose the meteorologist apologized?

That sort of thing happened here in December with a "Big" rain storm. Nothing really happened - but schools were closed, people stayed home from work etc. The week after we had a wind storm that was bigger than what was predicted the week before... everything operated as normal.
-
Thank you, all, for the nice comments about my pastor. I will ask on Sunday if he can have visitors.
-
Had a lovely dinner with friends tonight. Texas favorites with a novel twist. Way too much food, including mesquite-smoked Wagyu brisket, blue corn pone, fried oyster tacos, pork belly confit with winter cabbage, Snickers brownie with the real Dublin Dr Pepper and butterscotch pudding. And those are only a few highlights.

Starting to watch "The Great Victor Herbert" with one of the silliest scripts imaginable. And Mary Martin.

It's a little funny to me that elmore said the same exact thing about who he called the "crazies" buying every supermarket out of everything in NY, but I get the joy of being lambasted for making the same comment. Go know.

I watched a really funky movie from 1965 - ultra grade Z all shot in La Jolla and San Diego - even the stuff that's supposed to be in LA.

In Florida you'd see the same whenever a hurricane was forecast, whether it developed or not. I always wondered what those people fighting over the last cans of sauerkraut did with the stuff.

Fading fast. Good night, all.

People panic. They probably still have food from the previous storm.
